One thing to watch for with late model used Maximas, if it matters to you, is ex-rental cars. A lot of them end up in fleets these days, I saw several at National at LAX.

Posted some new pics earlier but kept the price just under $10k at $9995...want to wait a bit here. That car selling service called again but told them I am going to do this myself for a few weeks and then decide...true they do give it more exposure and will refund the $200 if it don't sell in a specific time period but want to try this on my own first. $200 is still $200 and if it takes a bit longer on my own, so be it. I think I can really do this on my own.
That company in West Palm hired me...couldn't wait much longer so called them. He was out of the office but called me back in 10 minutes and said I'm in! Told him I am ready to start in the morning so this is a good thing...a better run organization on paper so we'll see how it pans out. Now I'll keep USA on hold for awhile to see what happens there...don't want to tell them to go "F" themselves quite yet...want the appropriate time to do it. And I will let the owner know at that time why I did quit and about the unfairness...doubt she'll care though! Not even gonna post it on fb for a bit...want to keep things under the hat for the time being since Hertz hasn't said yes or no yet and don't want to jinx that job, my "dream job"!
I am very blessed today and very happy...thank you G-d!!!

Never give them a negative reason as to why you left. Everything was great, really appreciate working for them -- blah-blah. You never know when a reference will be needed or other networking info is shared in a particular business. You have nothing to lose by being friendly and respectful. Just felt like moving on.

Totally agree with ya...and told myself the same thing the minute the post went up...best to leave on a high note than the other way around. One never knows what the future will bring and if I will ever see these folks again. Plan to just keep USA at bay right now until I see how the new gig works out to...could even be worse but doubt that strongly. the interviewer was a pretty straight shooter...said they want good dependable workers which I am that show up on time and ready to work. I am perfect for that description and I do want to work and I am flexible time was, the main thing he said because as I already know, no two days are alike and things always pop up at the last moment.

"...price too high...no one is calling..."

As others have said, give it time. If you feel the need to do something just update the listing once a week which will put it at the top of the list. If you have priced it fairly you shouldn't start bidding against yourself by lowering the price. Any buyer will only try to grind you down from whatever price you ask. Leave yourself some room. If the car is worth $9995 to you and no one else, keep it. You can always sell it in a year or two.

If you want to get down and dirty you can do what guys like that Mustang seller did and include a million keywords in your ad so it comes up in every search. That seems kind of like cheating to me but a lot do it in your area.

No, taking your words to heart here and just staying the course for the time being. This is a holiday week and folks have two things on their minds right now...turkey and shopping, so gonna sit tight and relax here. I know it will sell eventually to someone who will really want it so I can wait. And if it stays with us until next year...or the year after that, not the worst case scenario either. Have decided that by January 1st if it doesn't sell, take it off and swap out that head unit for the nicer one and treat myself to XM radio for the rest of the time I own it. Really, it's not such a bad idea really, not such a bad idea. Sure, I really like that back up camera in the Verano and I just know that the wife would love it also, but can wait. And I'd bet that would happen, I buy it, she tries it and then she decides she wants it daily and flips me the keys to her Mazda...I can see that playing out to! Mot the worst thing that could ever happen either. But let's keep to our January 1st plan and then go from there...who knows, it may sell before then anyways!

"...low miles is a strong selling point..."

So true. I'm a low mileage junkie. I'd buy that 47k miles in a heartbeat especially if I saw the mature gentleman seller with the cane. I'd figure it wasn't abused.

And Merry Christmas to you sir. Yes, am just putting things in their proper place now and waiting to hear about my new gig. Called when I was supposed to but got a voicemail and left a message. When we talked earlier basically told him I am free from here on out so all should be good. And my current boss never called about me working Hertz tomorrow since it's been 2 weeks now since I was there and I know some of the others worked today and will again tomorrow. So when he told me he'd be fair, he was lying also, and right to my face! I am so done with this group and company but just will bite my tongue and hang in the background here...want to watch USA implode after they lose Hertz on 12/28 as they won't be able to stay afloat with the other two rental companies. But really, I am supposed to work tomorrow if he was being fair!
Hoping this new company will do things better...already I know the chase driver doesn't choose the crew, the dispatcher does, so I need to make nice with her and not decline much. I will be my nice self and see where that leads and hopefully I will start working regularly now like I was for a short while there! I miss driving!

For some reason, I have always had a soft spot for the GS Lexus sedans. Even though they are not the most sporty, I find the ride quality and RWD to just be correct blend. There's a Lexus dealer near me offering a 2008 GS 460 (the V8 is rare, most sold were the 350's) CPO, mileage in the high 40's for the high $28's. I can't do $~29, but I wonder if they get hungry during the Xmas season. I'd probably bite at $25, but who knows if that's doable. Here's a link ...

Man, that seems expensive. However, turns out they paid $24,500 for it at the Riverside auction on 10/3. So they've got more than $25k in it.

I've had the E-GT now for a few weeks and thought I'd provide a quick update on how we're getting along.

Put the third tank of gas into it this morning - I'm getting a shade under 27MPG so far, but with only 900 miles on the odometer, I expect that the engine isn't fully broken in yet. About 90% or more city driving.

As far as the amenities go, I'm really smitten. Love the heated seats - two stages, no less. Nice when delivering in freezing (or below) temps. 'Comfort' setting for steering is nice for getting around town, especially when making the all-to-frequent U-turns to get to an address. Loving the 3-month XM trial - have to decide to extend the subscription in February.

Quiet, roomy (enough for 50 pizzas!), practical - checks off all the boxes for me.

I do have one problem -- I took a look at the gas log for the last year I had the Saturn. As of 11/6/12 I had 80,xxx miles, and with the last tank on 11/2/13 it had 98,xxx miles. If I'm allowed 15K a year and I'm averaging 18K, there may be a big decision looming at lease end as to whether I keep it or not.

Extra miles on a lease car can be a problem. If you like the car as much as you seem to, just buy it -- unless the depreciated price is out of line.
  • jayriderjayrider Member Posts: 3,602
Had my LaCrosse for a year now [6500 miles] and really like it. Perfect geezer car and am learning to use the nav. Reminds me of my 71 Impala with the smooth big car ride. Made a great choice as long as there aren't any problems. The Prius looks to be the next one on the block [perfect car]-- my wife prefers to sit up higher so a compact suv--CRV - Terrain --etc possible.May try to sell the Prius myself -- has a 7 year zero deductible Toyota extended warranty and new tires which makes it way better than Toyota Certified. Maybe next summer. Anyone used cars.com or autotrader ? The Prius won't be Craigslist material. Could just run an ad in the Post-Dispatch.

Beautiful color, inside and out, and the miles are low. But, the infotainment and nav systems are going to be from 2008. And it has "Vogue" brand tires...?
  • MichaellMichaell Moderator Posts: 240,056
May go that route and buy it at the end of the lease.

Two things I'm not happy about - the tires aren't all that great in snow and the horn has quite the wimpy tone.

    Those are both fixable.

The Dunlops on the GLI have good dry traction and outstanding wet traction. Haven't driven them in the snow yet.

some of the OEM tires really are crappy in the wet. But, in a lease, not likely to want to spend the money to change them out!

unless you are pretty sure you will need to replace them before turning it in. If that is the case, buy some good quality ones now, stash the cheap OEMs in the garage, and just have them put back on before giving the car back.

I am overall liking what I am hearing about the GT. I like them anyway. Maybe next year (year after?) when I have a need for a cheap deal on a new small car, I might get one too!

Thanks, guys. I'll take that under advisement.

Corvette, where do we stand with the punch list and guesses? I ask since the time is near to start placing guesses for 2014. would be good to see the punch list for 2012 and 2013 as a baseline.

I figure breld is good for 3 or 4 a year.

I've gone back and read some of the reviews on the E-GT. One common comment is that the automatic transmission is a bit, well, confused about what gear it wants to be in.

I'm finding there is quite a bit of truth in that. The town I live in has a number of hills, and the tranny holds onto lower gears longer than I'd like. I can slide the shift lever over and manually upshift (4th to 5th) then bring the lever back to D and all is well.

Perhaps its still in "learning" mode. Perhaps it's because I'm using "Eco" mode. I'll continue to play around with it and see. Nothing serious, just a little aggravating.

26 punches for the year, counting andres3's S4 (which hasn't been delivered yet). Here are the closest guesses:

The tires aren't that great in snow because they have a relatively wide footprint [GT] Narrow tires are better --- they look crappy but have better traction on slippery surfaces.

No calls on the Civic yet so either the price is too high or the Thanksgiving/holiday mode has taken over and folks are just not shopping for a vehicle right now. Even the lower priced ones are still on the site. Oh well, this was a gamble to begin with so staying the course isn't a tragedy here but the more I drove that Verano, the more I liked it truth be told. I still need to bring it home to see if it'll fit on my side of the garage cause according to my tape measurements, I have about 187" and the car is 184" so...might not be able to fit it and the wife refuses to move sides right now. But hey, if I do buy it, she might have no choice in the matter. Either way, the ILX is out because it's too similar to my Civic even though it's got the nifty sunroof and back up camera...it just didn't do it for me like the Verano does...I get excited when I get into the Verano so I think my mind's made up here...that or a small ute which just might happen also. Saw a nice Mitsubishi Outlander Sport last night and except for the dash being just meh and the fact that Mitsu is losing steam in the U S, I generally like it, a lot and I think they can be had for south of $20k nicely equipped...they want to move some iron I suspect. Also like the Subaru Impressa and Forrester besides the favorite Tuscon. But like the Limited Tuscon better than the base but one pays for the priviledge and not sure I want to spend the extra $. And though I like the '08 TSX I found, it's a bit miled up for the year and it's not much of a change from the Civic either. So I sit and wait. And keep tossing the new head unit idea around in my head but if I do that, all new vehicle shopping is tabled for at least 2 years if not 3 as it has to make sense monetarily to go that route. So just best to stick to the January 1st plan and re-evaluate then.
1st day at new job went well and think I will like it much better though I do have to drive an extra 12 miles to get there. Did a couple runs for Avis going from Ft. Myers to Lauderdale in the pouring rain and got to drive a Volvo S60 and a Ford Explorer so was pretty happy. Tried to get an Enclave but was beaten out by someone else. Didn't see the Sonata but truthfully, the Volvo was pretty sweet. And my flash drive worked in both so I had my tunes. Brought a sandwich but had to eat Mickey D's on the fly but was extremely careful. This crew says this is the way they do it...either bring your own or eat on the fly. Will make the best of it here. Hopefully Hertz will come through and then I can do both if I want to. Won't quit USA quite yet, just won't be available when they call and if they stop, so be it as I think their days are numbered anyways. Do miss my buds there but finding out that if I don't text them to say "hey", no one will take the bull by the horns and just do it to me...a bit surprised by this to as I became quite close with a few of them...or so I thought.
    Anyways...lemonade out of lemons...right!!!

Depending on what happens with my Civic, I might be making a punch...finally. Just need someone to step up to the plate and buy it from me then...I'm into something else be it the Verano or a small ute. With my spinal issues, the more I think, the more I might just go with the Tuscon and call it a day. I know it'll fit in the garage and I do like the way they drive. I can just slide in and out of it which is outstanding for me and the mileage figures aren't to bad...it checks every box for me actually and with the dealer right across the street, makes servicing any issues easy peasy. Already having a Hyundai in the herd, I know how good they are and reliable so the issue is really which one I'd go for, the base or the Limited and I do prefer the Limited though the base would be fine to. Should check out the Sportage also as not sure I'd like the Soul on a day to day basis even though it does drive nicely and the new '14 has addressed a lot of the issues it had. But won't get another 1st year model again if I can...and the Tuscon is due for it's mid cycle refresh in '15 so do I just wait until then and do absolutely nothing here, take it off Craigslist and nix the new head unit idea? Not really sure about that but that could be plan C...makes sense also because I'd be getting the newest Tuscon out there and I could save the $ now and let it grow a bit. This would also please the wife as by next year, she'll probably have her new vehicle so she won't put up too much of a fuss with me. Yes, plan C could be the best thing yet...can't believe I am thinking of doing this now but it does make total sense actually...total sense. And I have always liked the Tuscon truth be told, it's small enough but I can just slide in and out as my spine ain't getting any better. By george, i think we are onto something here!!!

Forgive me if you posted this already. What would be the financial penalty you'd take by trading the Civic for the Verano, considering the tax savings you'd have on a trade vs. just buying the Verano after a private sale of the Civic?
  • Sandman6472Sandman6472 Member Posts: 6,952
More than I'd like right now...I'd love to get anywhere around $9k for it but at this point take $8k. Dealers want to steal it with the low being $5800 and Carmax at $7k, and this doesn't include the supposed $420 in tax savings they keep saying to me. They try to confuse me with the figures except the Acura guy who actually answered my question as to "how much cash with the Civic"...a simple question that no one seems to want to answer. I thought this whole process was going to be somewhat simple...I sell one vehicle and negotiate for another, pay the nice man the difference and I drive out the next day with a smile on my face. Well, it's been 3 weeks of test drives, stupid answers to simple questions and "what do I have to do to make you drive this home today" sleaziness! I wish Isell was still in the business so I could get a fair trade-in and deal...I just want a fair price on both sides of the equation here. Also, think I'd feel so much better about it all if the wife was aboard also...that added tension isn't helping my decision process here one bit. truthfully, if she was a o k with it all, that Lexus CT 200h would be in my garage right now...it is the only one that gave me that "I really like this" moment as it was fun and comfortable while being economical at the same time...it just hit all the boxes for me immediately. The 1 Series was the most fun to toss around and if $ wasn't a variable in the equation, I'd go for the white one hands down.
So, here we are, waiting on any offer and doing nothing. plan B of the new head unit is still viable while Plan C is just out there and could also work but, there's always a but, the Tuscon is a bit pricey for the Limited and makes more sense to get the Verano if I go new. Haven't tried the Subaru yet and still want to so I do nothing. Guess it's usual for most folks to look and look and then agonize a bit before the actual purchase...and that's where we are now. And the Civic keeps on plugging along and always gets me to where I need to be. maybe G-d is telling me something here...maybe I should listen!!!

I agree with you, the $5800 for your trade is just too low. Keep plugging along. Things will happen if meant to be.

BTW, wifey has a CT200h and loves it. It's actually quite fun to drive and around 50 mpg is frosting on the cake. I like the Verano but haven't driven one.

    Good luck.

Don't let the itch turn into a rash, Sandy! You're not trying to sell a $1,500 jalopy, so it's going to take some time. The nice thing about new cars is that the manufacturers keep making more of them, so whatever car you decide to buy will be there for you when you take the plunge.

Enjoy the Civic while you still have it; you'll remember it fondly, I suspect. :P

EDIT: Took a look at the new Verano. It's a nice-lookin' car! And, it even comes with a manual transmission! I'm not ready to consider paying at or near 30K for a car yet, but that'd be the only Verano I'd consider. :D

Is Craigs the only place you have posted it? I don't get alot of action there. I think the free local Ebay classifieds is far better. However, oddly enough in this day and age, my most successful advertising has been the car sitting by the curb with a sign in it. Probably 3/4 of my vehicles sold have been to people who told me they saw it when they drove by.

We owned a 2010 (current generation) Prius III prior and it was a third car. We loved it. After three years wife wanted something more refined, and since we had a good experience with prior Lexus', we got a 2013 CT. Similarly, she really likes it. She gets about 3-5 less mpg with the CT but it is quieter and more fun to drive.

Actually 7k sounds pretty good at Carmax and not the hassle of private sale or taxes. I'm wondering if you aren't ready to sell yet so that's why you priced it high. You seem to be all over the place.

They have probably programmed a bit more urge into the equation at the expense of a few mpg, since it is a luxury brand. Having a bit more weight due to sound-deadening measures will acct for some of those lost mpg too. Good to know though that it is quiet. Would you say it is Buick-quiet? (I'm sorta assuming the higher-end big Lexi are even quieter than Buick).

Every car I've sold has been with a window sign in front of the house. It seems to draw less flakes!

The last car I sold was listed on cars.com. It was a 2005 Crossfire SRT-6 with low miles and it took around 2 weeks before I had any interest in it at all. By the time I took a deposit on it 2 weeks later I was getting multiple inquiries,
and one person out of state offered more than I sold it for.

I would give it some time, and I would list it on cars.com or autotrader. Make sure you list the VIN number because serious buyers will want to check out its history. Lots of pictures are good and the more information about the car,
the better because it shows you have nothing to hide.

By the way I sold my Crossfire SRT-6 for around $5,000 more than Edmunds said it was worth in a private party sale.

Sometimes they do seem to move "too fast" at TMV. Like my in-law's truck did.

    Regarding the CT200h:
"Would you say it is Buick-quiet? (I'm sorta assuming the higher-end big Lexi are even quieter than Buick)."

No, the hybrid engine (with the gerbils working hard) is noticeable, as well as the on-and-off of the i.c.e., is not Buick quiet.

    "...Crossfire SRT-6 with low miles..."

Sounds like a dream car. The Crossfires were something of a flop for Chrysler but the SRT have something of a cult following. If you could afford to throw one in the barn for 20 years it would be a collectable car.

I had the opportunity to drive a non SC one when they first came out and was intrigued but the cramped nature, and so-so performance made it tough to justify $35k.

Too cheap by at least half.

On the other hand, it took the guy three weeks of wood cutting to scrape up the dough to pay them all the money. I was a bit antsy but they knew the guy's reputation (as does everyone else in the county but newbies like us).

They were going to ask $500 btw.

That's life in the UP. :D

The Crossfire was way overpriced by Chrysler. The SRT-6 was mechanically the same as the 2004 Mercedes SLK-32 AMG Supercharged. The convertible had a MSRP of close to $50k. The coupes were around $47 I think. After sitting on the lots for a year they could be had for around $35K. Then after sitting on lots for 2 years Chrysler auctioned them off and a SRT coupe could be had for about $27K new, which wasn't a bad deal for basically a brand new supercharged AMG sports car. I bought mine in 2007 for $24K with 3000 miles.
I sold it summer of 2013 for $16.5K. It was a great weekend car. In stock form it was capable of 13 second 1/4 mile times and turned heads everywhere. With a pulley and a tune some have gotten into the 11 second
    range.

Drawbacks of course was the cramped cockpit and a suspension only engineered for smooth roads.

Only 2000 SRT coupes and 1000 roadsters were built and low mileage examples might well become collectible.

went to the automall today to get the RDX serviced. Daughter came, because she is Jonesing for me to get a new car (which of course in her mind becomes "her" car). Checked out stuff at Acura, then walked next door to the BMW dealer.

gotta say, 1:00 on the day before Thanksgiving, on a nasty cold rainy day, is a good time to go look. Most of the time, we were the only non-employees in the place.

anyway, we find a nice 2011 328ix to drive. Black over saddle, 22K on it. So salesgirl drove back to the racetrack (TJC knows the place). had to stop because we were hearing a "thump thump" noise. Sounded like a flat, but I think it may have been a flatspot after sitting? Anyway, I got to drive it. Nice handling, but seemed outdated almost without many of the new goodies cars have these days.

Sat in an F90 (2013) inside. Like the interior better. No clue if I would like driving it or not, but that is way out of the price range.

so wandered back to Acura. Sat in the ILX again, and daughter loved it. Felt more comfortable to her, liked the back up cam, bluetooth, etc. Overall, just seems to be a better "fit". will have to go back sometime to drive one again. Interesting though, she wanted the ILX much more than a more used BMW. ILX really is a nice car though, even if it is a bit down on grunt. I do like the size and feel of the Acura though.

    so, we shall see!

Is this the base ILX with the 150HP engine? For some reason I think it should have more. I know the 2.4 is also an option.

    "...Chrysler auctioned them off..."

I remember seeing a bunch of them in a rental lot at Tampa airport. I think the impression that the Germans were trying to foist their obsolete technology on American buyers gave the car a black eye.

I loved the styling of the Crossfire better than the SLK it was based on.

The non-SC base model MSRPed for about $35. If I could have snagged an SRT for that price I might have mortgaged something to buy it.

it has the 2.0l engine. Not sure what the HP is on it, but it moves around OK.

the 2.4l engine is still just available with the stick I believe. Basically a Civic Si in a tux.

at some point, I imagine the TSX goes away, and the ILX will get the bigger engine with an AT and less sporty garb.

That racetrack is a good place to put a car through its paces. I drove the dealer's first Genesis on that track and the salesman said to have a little fun. It's a nice selling tool for them too, as it's perfectly smooth and most everything rides great on it.
