I've waited until I added some accessories to post any pics. '05 Tacoma Prerunner extended cab SR5 pkg. #3, indigo ink pearl. 1300 miles and no problems at all so far, I LOVE my truck!

So far I've added the bug shield, taillight covers, ventvisors, nerf bars, and had the front windows tinted to match the rears. Still thinking about the bull bar.

Looks good. I'd like to see a better picture of those tail light covers. Where'd you get 'em?
  • zork51zork51 Member Posts: 5
Nice. I've got a 03 with a Lund deflector on the front. I may get an 05, if I can find the right option pack. I couldn't buy a beautiful black 05 TRD because the Sport Seats hurt my back. What a friggin bummer. I need the plain Jane bucket seats that believe it or not, are much more comfortable than those fancy Sport Seats. See Consumer Reports, with all options my 03 SR5 has. Anyway, what brand of bug shield did you get? There are a few mfg'rs that make them for 05's. I saw a factory one on a truck but it looked like there was a big gap between the hood and bottom of brackett.

Here's a link to a closeup pic of the taillight covers. (Ignore the water spots, my camera is TOO good) ;) The brand is AVS and I ordered them online...I'm embarrassed to say that I don't remember where.

It's a Wade bug shield. I've read posts about some of them not fitting or leaving a gap in the hood, but I had no problem with mine. I just took my time to center it and line it up right and it fits like a glove, no problems.

    Hello All -

I'm new to this forum. I'm seriously considering buying a '98 - '00 Tacoma. I was at a dealer tonight and saw one that was an SST model, but it had a step side bed. I've never seen or heard of this on a Tacoma. First of all, does anyone know if this is a factory option? Or is it custom? I've seen other pictures of SST and they all have the straight side bed. Second, does anyone know what option I should look for when searching on the internet? I really like the look of it, so I'd like to find another one (I want a manual trans., this one is an auto). One more question, is this option available in an extended cab or a standard cab only?

Nice truck.. I have the same Prerunner package in Impulse Red coming in next week. What brand of nerf bars are those and where did you get them if you don't mind? That is going to be one of my first additions.

    Thanks

Thanks, I had a tough time choosing between the Indigo Ink and the Impulse Red, I like them both. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. :D Be sure to post some pics when you get it.

The nerf bars are UWS brand. Here's a link to their site, you can find a local dealer from there.

Thanks for the link. There is a dealer not to far, so I will check them out.

I like the Impulse Red, especially since I was able to find a pretty rare SR5 package with the alloy wheels. I think Indigo Ink is very nice, and not too common around here. I have yet to see a new Indigo Ink on the road.

With the front windows tinted to match, and the ventvisors and bug shield all blending in, the Indigo looks really good.

One more question. The Wade bug shield says no drill, but did it mount with tape or screws?

    Thanks again.
  • tacoman05tacoman05 Member Posts: 37
The bug shield mounts with 5 screws, the holes are pre drilled. It's just a matter of centering the shield and tightening them up.

What is percentage of the tint on your front windows that you got to match the back and access cab doors? I want to do mine too but the legal limit here is 30% and I don't want to waste my time unless it's going to match. Thanks.
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
The back windows on my double cab are 20%, according to the guy who tinted my front windows. I got the front windows done with 20%, which is illegal, but I'll take a chance. It looks good though. The cops around here don't mess with window tint too much.
  • tacoman05tacoman05 Member Posts: 37
For the tinting, I went to a local shop that does the tinting for the Toyota dealer. I told him that I wanted to match the front windows to the back if it was legal to do so. He said it was, I didn't ask what the % was. The local cops don't seem to pay a lot of attention to window tint, so just as pb2thmax said I'm willing to take my chances. Guess it depends on where you are. The law is different in different states, and some places enforce it more than others.

Here's a pic of my truck after I debadged the sides. It looks much cleaner without the Tacoma emblem on the doors and the TRD sticker on the bed. But I did add a TRD emblem on the tailgate.

And here's a pic of the Toyota Sport seat covers, in case somebody was wanting to know what they look like. I really like 'em! They are real durable, and easy to wipe off.

Just finished installing my Westin Bull bar, only took about an hour and it looks pretty cool! :D Here's a link to a pic:

Also, a while back someone had asked for a pic of the taillight covers that I installed. I posted a closeup view at the time, but here's a rear view of the whole truck that puts them more in perspective:

I have a Draw Tite class IV hitch on order to install next, I'll post pics when it's done.
Hmmm....what can I do next? :confuse:

Anybody install brush guards on their Tacos yet? There seems to be plenty of kits out there, but I haven't seen any pictures of an 05 with them intstalled. I bought my 05 Taco a couple of weeks ago with a dealership employee discount. I want to pimp this truck out. It has some true potential.

Checkout the Daystar website for the prerunner bars that they offer. They have 2 different ones.

"Anybody install brush guards on their Tacos yet? "

    Mall guards or brush guards?

I have fully functional brush guards on my Wrangler, but haven't seen the use for them yet on my Taco.

Here's my pride and joy, 2005 Taco Access cab w/ TRD pkg#2. Getting all Toyota accessories for it, trying to keep her realatively stock. K&N aircharger on the way, maybe a TRD exhaust system later. We'll see.

I have a 05 Tacoma TRD Off Road Access Cab with the automatic 245hp six cylinder. Two of my co-workers have hemi's. One is an 04 the other an 05. We went out after work one day for some friendly comparisons. My little Tacoma EASILY beat the mighty Hemi's in both dead stop quarter mile (about 3 truck lengths) and 20mph roll ons. The little Tacoma pulled away steadily and kept pulling away. The further we went the more the lengths in between. I have also raced an 05 Tundra, no comparison, the Tacoma kills it. Just thought you guys might want to know, go find a hemi and ruin his day and ego!

From the dealer. Kind of expensive. $155 a pair.

You can also get them here.

This is the picture forum. Try asking in the 2005+ Tacoma forum.

BTW, some say that the oil from the K&N damages sensors in the intake.
