Tigers are fun to drive---*very* tight driver compartment, so I could never own one without serious modifications.

Mostly, you drive it with the gas pedal in the twisties--you need a bit of skill or you'll be in the weeds.

What's they gray car next to the red Jag?

That's a favorite of mine, a Ferrari 2+2, either a 250GTE or a 330GTE. I think I can just about make out the headlight surround for a four headlight 330GTE like this one>

    image

There was a two headlight version later in the production run, most people consider it better looking but IMO the 4 headlight car looks more the part of a luxury four-place Gran Turismo.

If I ever got to heaven (doubtful) I'd walk into a room of cars like that!

I believe that this is a '63 Buick Wildcat. The barn find looks like a Datsun 210.

correct on the Buick. Close but no cigar on the Datsun.

I knew the Buick, and I'd have also guessed 'B210' on the other.

Not a fan of that era Buick--overly decorated IMHO, but good cars I think. I remember a friend when I was little whose parents had a '63 Electra 225...I loved that the radio said "Sonomatic" and the speedometer had a buzzer when the Dad exceeded 80. I remember hearing the buzzer once or twice!

For folks who like Buicks of that general era, probably my overall favorite flick, "Hush..Hush, Sweet Charlotte" with Bette Davis, Joseph Cotten, Olivia deHavilland, and Bruce Dern features a '64 Special and two different '64 Electra 225 six-window sedans, as well as a '64 Dodge Dart that is shown briefly as the Doctor's car! ;)

I say Datsun 210, just 210 with no B in front.

RWD but no power, skip the Starbucks and save up to get a 510 instead.

BMW just needs to stop. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Taking away the wagons and giving us these nasty looking things turns my stomach.

The only thing I'm currently looking forward to is the 2-series, although changes are it will be overweight.

And the 5 GT is not even selling well.

The X6 did so that probably emboldened them.

And the odd thing (to me, at least) is that the 5GT looks slightly better than the 6. Personally, I think the x6 should be considered one of the ugliest vehicles of all time. Right there with a Pacer. I think the Aztek was inoffensive in comparison.

    Now that I think about it, I say Datsun 1200 or....was there a 1600?

I think the 1600 was the roadster. Car in the pic looks like a 2 door, which I recall once seeing as a 1200.

BMW now has an old Mopar name "Gran Coupe" and an old Stude name "Gran Turismo". Funny.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Gran Turismo is a term taken from the great Italian cars. I think it really meant a car you could race with competitively and then drive home in comfort.

It really makes little sense with 60s American cars but "GT" is a sexy marketing term, so hey, why not?

My 1968 Buick Special Deluxe had a Sonomatic radio with the letters BUICK spelled-out on the five station selector buttons.
  • uplanderguyuplanderguy Member Posts: 16,094
Right. GTO stood for "Gran Turismo Omalagato".

I actually think the 3-Series GT looks good.. Lines flow a lot better than the dowdy looking 5-Series GT...

Nothing wrong with a 4-door hatchback..

I quite agree (having owned three five door Saabs) but most of our fellow Americans do not like them. As for the 3-er GT, I'll reserve judgement til I see one, It could be quite nice in the right color.

    C6, F430, F430 Spyder.

Do they use Spyder or Spider?

    599 on the left.

    I wish I worked there!
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
It's spider. I never knew why they use that term. :confuse:

Any guesses on the cars in the back?

Actually no one knows for certain where the term "spider" comes from, other than that it originates from horse carriage terminology---but no one knows why they called horse carriages that either.

My theory is that a "spider" horse carriage was configured to have the driver riding on a shelf at the back of the carriage, and that this is how actual creepy crawly spiders carry their young. :P

That's a good looking Comet IMHO. I think the Fairlanes of the '66-67 era are good-looking cars too.

Yup, precisely. The original Fiat 500 was the prewar Topolino ("Little Mouse") a front-engine RWD car, the Nuova 500 followed in 1957 using the then in vogue rear-engine RWD set up. The current Fiat 500 apes the styling of the '57 but uses a typical FWD chassis and, unlike the other two, displaces a lot more than 500cc.

I wonder how a Topolino styled Fiat 500 would sell?
