My 2002 TrailBlazer had the same type of exposed weatherstrip and never seemed to be a problem. Hope my '07 LTZ proves out as well.

I'm guessing it has to do with the extra curb weight. The new design gained at least 500lbs. IF the GCVWR (Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating) didn't change and the curb weight increased then the tow rating goes down.

The decreased towing capacity is interesting. Heck, the current Explorer is rated to tow more.

Lots of things effect tow ratings. HP & torque probably have the lowest effect on what the ratings actually are. The suspension, chassis, brakes, and transmission etc. are far more important in determining what a vehicle can safely tow. Look at 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. The diesel option does not increase tow ratings over the biggest gas engine.

I have my new performance exhaust on order with Zoomersexhaust (supposed to be shipped 5/26) - I will be able to let you know how it sounds (along with a link to an mpeg hopefully) shortly after that. :shades:

Thanks for the info. My old Yukon did not have autoride. What kind of hitch do you use on a Denali? (2" drop, etc.) assuming it keeps level when you hook up the trailer. I used to have a hitch that was flipped over to raise the trailer level on my old truck because the backend would sink everytime I hooked up my trailer.
  • awf_axisawf_axis Member Posts: 136
Same here. I had a 2" drop, that I flipped UP because the boat trailer needed it high. I had a Schuck cushioned hitch.

On the new Escalade, I had to change to a 4" drop to maintain the same hitch-ball height. There's a 6" difference.

I installed the GMC performance exhaust cat back single side with the dual wall angle cut tip. My first time with exhast upgrade ---sounds great - gets better mileage unless I am showing off the rumble to the cars trying to race me....
  • sj110sj110 Member Posts: 13
Thanks. What size tires do you have? My new Denali (which I just drove home with :)) has 20" rims. Wonder if that would make a difference if you have larger rims for your Caddy. The problem is that my boat is stored away from my home and when I pick it up I will need a new hitch for the Denali.

I love my truck. It is well built and I'm not experiencing rattles and clunks that have been posted here. I've been towing with it and it pulls quite well, better than my 99 Suburban did. There are two things that I would change and dislike about the truck. One is the height of the trailer hitch. It requires me to use a 12" drop that is huge to store and moves around considerably more than a slight drop. Second is the light color of the roof/ceiling material that dirties very easily, especially around the grab handles. :)
  • awf_axisawf_axis Member Posts: 136
The Escalade has 22x9 wheels, using 285x45x22 tires. The diameter is 26", which is the same as your 275x55x20 wheels.

You will have the 5-6" difference (higher) in height from any previous generation of GM SUV. Be prepared.

Thanks Dave, I really appreciate your help. One last question....What is the distance from the ground to the bottom of your receiver on your Caddy? This would help me double check if mine will likely be the same. With the autoride, does this pretty much stay at the same level when you hook your boat up? SJ
  • awf_axisawf_axis Member Posts: 136
The Denali and Escalade are identical in the ride height and suspension. If I remember correctly, the new hitch is 21" from the ground, measured to the bottom-inside of the receiver.

When you put the boat on, the air compressor will kick in within 5 seconds, and restore the same rear height.

On a side note, I have since lowered my Escalade by 2", by replacing the rear coils springs. This actually makes the vehicle "level". GM SUV's tend to have a large amount of wheel well clearance, and so it has the stink-bug look. I didn't want to alter the front end, since this affects the CV boots, axle angles and such, but I wanted the rear down a bit.

I used a Hotchkis "leveling kit", designed for the '02-05 years. Seems GM didn't design different spring mounts. However the 1.5" drop kit created a 2" drop on the '07. Must be some extra weight in the rear of the new generation GMs.

The air system pumps up 1/4 inch to make the total drop actually 1.75". The kit contains 2 coil springs, 2 replacement air-ride level sensor rods. Did the whole thing at home in 1 hour, using a floor jack, a bottle jack, and basic tools.

NO vehicle is designed to recycle only cabin air, otherwise you will die from lack of oxygen. It may be that GM is a little liberal on the amount of outside air that is brought inside .

On my wife's little BMW X3, the air is drawn in under the windshield, because everytime we hit the washer's, we smell the fluid immediately.

It may be that the GM SUV's are pulling fresh air from an area that is susceptible to vehicle exhaust in front of you. Who knows.

I bought a 07 Yukon and have had the same problem. I end up smelling exaust from someone in front of me when its on recyle. It has also switched from recyle to not recycle by itself as well. Will be speaking to the GMC dealership about this.

Any cargo liners available for these new trucks?
  • jjmjgnxjjmjgnx Member Posts: 34
I ordered a couple splash guards for my rear tires, but should I get another set for the front tires or do the running boards on the side do a good job of keeping rocks from dinging the doors?
  • awf_axisawf_axis Member Posts: 136
Cargo Liner's by Husky. Get's pricy for the larger ones that fit behind the 2nd row seats. However, they are shaped to accomodate the plastic guides on the floor.

Here's the flappers available from GM, on all 4 wheels.

I think it balances out the whole look, when flappers are installed. Kind of the "Land Cruiser" look.">

Dave, nice rig! Looks like the flappers will fit my LTZ, do you happen to have the p/n. I was going to order from Chevy, yours look better, or is it just the lighting?
  • awf_axisawf_axis Member Posts: 136
I got the flaps on eBay, from a GM dealership. Here's the link

This is a black set, and the part numbers are shown.

    Other colors available.

I purchased a cargo liner/mat for my 2007 Yukon through my GMC dealership. It fits snugly and is cupped on all 4 sides to prevent anything from getting into the rest of the cabin. It just sits over the third row seats. It can
easily removed if you need to put the third row seats back into the truck. It cost me $65. It has worked out very well so far.
  • stormin800stormin800 Member Posts: 39
I purchased the front and rear flaps for my Yukon. The fronts fit nicely around the running boards. I went for the less expensive molded flaps that were not painted. They
are the same matte color as the running board mat.
They also look great and no more mud, sand etc on the running boards.

It looks like your picture is not displaying properly. Anyway, I'm curious about the Cargo Mat.

You said it's a rubberized piece. How does it handle the plastic guides that are attached to the floor where the 3rd row seats sit?

    Dave
  • sj110sj110 Member Posts: 13
The husky mat has cut outs for the third row seat which allow you to use them without removing the cargo mat. I had a GMC mat for my 2001 Yukon which did not do this (assume the 07 mat is likely the same). I had to remove the seats to use the mat....

Anyone have any good pics/recs for a chrome grille insert for the new Tahoes? I would like horizontal bars but I would prefer not to see the vertical supports behind them. I have looked a little online but would need some info from the pros out there. Also will be installing myself so nothing too difficult to install please. Thanks

This outfit (link title) has the best pics I've seen so far. (Here's the link in case the automatic one doesn't work: http://www.carriageworksinc.com/Chevy_GMC.jsp) Just looked at one of the bolt overs today and it looks nice. About $160. The company is about 15 miles from me so I might check to see if they sell direct for less. Precision Grills is another good one to check.

When a car doesn't work, the threads on Edmunds are full of complaints. Happy to see this one is talking about many things not related to problems. love my Tahoe (06 Z71). IMHO GM knows how to make a big truck better than anyone. Hope they nailed this one.
  • texastahoetexastahoe Member Posts: 5
I have the 07 husky cargo mat. It fits perfectly and the cutouts are spot on. I leave my seats in with the mat below it.

    Thanks Shark for the tip.

Second question... How are the bowtie emblems removed? I have a set of chrome ones but they dont seem to fit the OEM space. I checked behind the grille and couldnt tell if the factory bowtie was taped on or attached by some sort of weird bolts. Does the gold bowtie and the black piece behind it both come off to make room for the new one. Anyone with any clue/pics to point me in the right direction?

Just wanted to let everyone know that there has been some sort of recall notice sent out dealing with the A/C system on the '07 Tahoes  .

I've had my LTZ in the shop 4 times now for an unrelated issue (flirting with the Lemon Law here in Florida :lemon: )...And just yesterday while it was there, they said they also "Reprogramed HVAC Module Per Campaign" (this is what shows on my copy of the work order they gave to me). This is a recall that has just been put out...So you guys (gals) may be hearing more about it.

Just thought I'd let everyone know..........
  • hawkeye54hawkeye54 Member Posts: 14
When my 2007 LT3 was in the shop the dealer "fixed" my Tahoe. He said the recall is just a software fix. Before the fix if the temperature was below 32 degrees the air conditioner would shut off automatically. After the software upgrade the system will respond to all inputs.

rockin_ltz - I'm interested in knowing what your vehicle was in the shop for. It wasn't tied to the tranmission in any way was it?
  • rockin_ltzrockin_ltz Member Posts: 61
Hawkeye...No it wasn't my transmission but my ABS/Stabilitrac/Traction Control system. Have had issues with my ABS and Stabilitrac warning lights coming on for no reason and the message "service stabilitrac" and "service traction control" appearing in the message center. They (GM) finally decided to try and fix it right since I had initiated the Lemon Law process here in Florida. They ended up replacing a computer module of some sorts and will hopefully cure the problem. We'll see.....
  • junglegeorgejunglegeorge Member Posts: 129
Great news (for me anyway) the LTZ I ordered on 4/11 has been JUST BEEN assigned a build date of 6/12 and I should see it by mid July. :)

I've been driving my 2007 Yukon XL for four days now. I haven't hit 200 miles yet, and have no complaints. I have one curiosity about the Nav system though. I notice that the Nav DVD always seems to be spinning, even when the truck has been off for a long time. I've heard it when getting into the truck the last three mornings after it's been sitting in the garage all night. Has anybody else noticed this?
  • dettltzdettltz Member Posts: 14
The front bowtie's not too tough to remove. If you reach down behind the grill, (which is a lot easier if you loosen or remove the six bolts across the top) you'll feel three posts coming through. The outer two posts are the only ones that matter. They have small press nuts on them. Remove those. Next step is just prying the gold bowtie off. It separates from the car just behind the black trim. In other words, the gold and black are one piece, so you want to be prying between the black and the chrome. GM put some double-stick tape back there, but it comes away without much struggle.

Also, my chrome replacement was considerably smaller than the OEM gold-and-black. But it fit really nicely into a small groove you'll discover when you get the gold one off.

The bowtie on the tailgate is just taped on. No nuts to contend with. But there are two small posts that snug into two small holes.

Now here's my question for you. Did you find a chrome bowtie for the rear, 'cause I'm still looking...?
  • dettltzdettltz Member Posts: 14
    Smedlotoys--

My Nav DVD does the same thing. I'll hear it working away at all hours. I talked to the dealer. They gave me a GM Service Bulletin. Here's what it says:

"It is normal operation after the RKE (remote) is used to unlock the vehicle or the driver's door is opened. This noise will also be heard during normal vehicle use. The noise is also normal operation for up to three minutes after the vehicle is turned off and the driver's door has been opened and closed."

Don't know if this really explains it. I'll have to try checking on it some morning by opening up the passenger's side door. Who knows...?

anyone know where i can find a chrome gmc yukon emblem for an 07 yukon?

    I've looked everywhere....

    any help would be awesome!

The story I've heard re: bowties is that GM hasn't licensed anyone for the new ones yet and has told those mfg that were making them to stop. Those mfg thought that their old license was good for the new models. But as we know, GM has now decided to get into the aftermarket accessory arena. Of course their stuff will probably be higher than the others was. :( Don't know if GM will license anyone or not.

Has anyone figured out yet how to bypass/hack the Navigation DVD player so that you can watch movie's while the tahoe is in drive?
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
Be aware that it is illegal almost everywhere for drivers to watch movies while the car is moving.

    Dave,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I was out of town for a few days. As sj110 said, it is a solid mat with
cupped edges that slides over the guides for the third row. It is true that the third row seats need to be removed
to use the mat, but I seldom use the third row and far more
often I am hauling something in the back. The solid mat doesn't allow debri, liquid etc. to escape. Since this my
first Yukon (after 14 years with Toyotas), I couldn't tell you if it is similar to the cargo mats from the past. I just think it works great and keeps the rest of the cabin clean.

They make one with the cutout as well if you do want to leave the seats in. I have it and it works great.

Just had a major gas leak on my 07 Tahoe at stop signal yesterday. I just got it last weekend and only has 270 miles. Can I demand a new truck from the dealer who sold it me? They want to go ahead and fix it, but not comfortable with it any more. I had my wife and kids at the time, we were lucky that it did not explode or someone flicked their cigarette out the window.

What do you guys recommend, suggest, etc. I really would rather get a new one.

    Thanks in advance.
  • smedlotoyssmedlotoys Member Posts: 5
    Thanks, Det LTZ.

That makes sense. I suppose it takes a while for the Nav system to boot and access the data on that DVD. It gets a head start by spinning up the DVD at the first hint the truck is about to be started.

    ;)

As I wait patiently for my LTZ, I am shopping for all the toys, I ordered my 2004 LT with factory fender flares, currently they are not available as a option on the 07, I think they add both a descent look, and help protect against door dings. Anybody know if GM will offer flares in the future, or know of a good aftermarket flare. I am still looking for a chrome Bow Tie, I missed a chance on e-bay, they had one for about $100, currently E-Bay has a cheaper plastic one. Also I am always open to other ways to personalize my LTZ.
  • 73shark73shark Member Posts: 325
You might wait until the Z71 option comes out as it may have flares. I did see some aftermarket flares on-line but don't remember vendor.

Trying to decide between 2 LT3 tahoes: with the major difference being one has a 4.10 gear ratio while the other has the 3.73 Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill but I don't want to screw it up so I'm solliciting advice.

The 4WD Tahoe is going to move us from Atlanta to Midland, TX with U-haul trailer in tow. In Midland, it will be a daily driver with the occasional trip to the hunting lease but mostly city driving(no tow). Then it will move us to Dallas in December with U-haul in tow as well then we're going to sell it(purely a 3rd car that won't be necessary anymore).

So, what rear-end ratio would work best for me?

    Thanks in advance.
  • 73shark73shark Member Posts: 325
Personally I would go with the 3.73 based upon the info you provided. Better gas mileage and the 4.10 only gives you 1,000 lb higher trailer capacity. The 4.10 will give you better acceleration though at the expense of higher engine rpms at cruise speeds and lower mpg. Hope this helps.

Has anyone heard anything on GMC 20" Chrome availabilty? I don't understand why GMC would have all these aftermarket goodies in brochures and website and then not make them available.
