wow, thats not bad. my buyout is 32k after 33 months, but not due until 09/10. if it was reduced to 20k i might consider buying it...thanks for the info

Has anyone else confirmed that the current August '08 incentive on 2008 R-Class is only for purchases and not leases? Is this only regional? Has anyone in the West Coast (e.g. California) confirmed that the incentive is only good for purchases?

Not sure what was the residual value but the 29.9k was already reduced by 12k. I guess it was a July deal. July was really the best time to get a used car. I mean, THIS July.

Anyway I got the document they sent me and looks like the offer was for end of the lease term as well, not the CURRENT value. I still have 2 months to go.

I have decided to get a new lease. Like the auto dimming mirrors, rearview cam, parking sensors, auto folding mirrors etc.

interesting that MB is now offering $10k (maybe $12k??) discounts on the residuals - as recently as May, someone posted that they only offered a $4500 discount on an '06 24mo lease coming due. My 27 mos lease is up this fall with a $42k buyout. I suspect that the $10k adjustment will increase quite a bit in a few months as the '09s roll out.

May wholesale auction #s for R500s ranged from $27-29k. I tihnk it is safe to assume that fall wholesale #s will drop another 5-8% as the '09s come out - so MB finance lower buyouts to right around $25-30k - I suspect they will keep buy out prices $1-3k above wholesale on a model that has very little retail re-sale appeal to dealers - otherwise they risk losing money at auction - god knows the dealers wont want but one or two 3 yr old R500s on their lots....
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
here are the most recent wholesale auction prices on the '06 R500. With a high price of about $26k - this obviously supports MBUSA negotiating buyouts down $10-12k and probably means they will have to drop them close to $15k unless they want to lose more money sending them to auction. If a dealer wants to resell a car coming off lease, how does MBUSA set the price that the dealer pays? Is it based on reported auction figures? ( trust me that I am not suggesting dealers want used Rs on their lot....).

Here you go for the 06 MB R500's

    Awesome info.

Can you possibly post the R350 info --even if its just Manheim.

Thanks a bunch. I would love to buy out my lease, but want to get it around $25,000 .

Thank you. My lease is up in November and they told me to call back after the first of the month to see if they could do better so maybe they will keep trending downward. Hmmm although as colder weather comes maybe more will be interested in AWD and the prices will hold.
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
with the '09s coming and little demand for this model, there is little doubt that prices will continue to fall.

I am planning to lease a 2008 R350 this month.

Could some one please tell me what was the Residual % and the Term (36 vs 48 months) they have got from MB dealers?

Also the money factor or the APR?
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
lklein1 (or anyone else) have you contacted MB again to see if the buyout discounts have dropped any more? '09s are on the lots and they sold less than 500 Rs in August (half the # they sold in august '07)....

thought folks might like to see the most recent auction prices - they actually went up a bit as compared to July/August with some low mileage, above avg R500s going through....hopefully the economic woes will drag those #s back down going into next month....

IF ANYONE HAS BOUGHT OUT OR IS BUYING OUT THEIR LEASE FROM MB, PLEASE POST YOUR "EXPERIENCE" ON THIS BOARD.

Thanks for posting these. I may call later in the week to see if they have come down any on there buyout and will post. I just don't know if i should just wait until after Nov 1st to see if it will go lower. I got my paperwork last week that it is time to have it inspected for turn in etc. Lease is up Nov 21st. I wonder when the bulk of the R classes they were giving away will be coming in. I would consider leasing a new one if the payment was anywhere near my current one, but its not.

thanks to our host....you saved me some typing..

the "big" thing that is missing of course from the auction details are the options on these vehicles. But given the relatively close price spread, you can tell that even very well optioned cars do not command much of a premium wholesale despite possibly costing $10-20k over "base" vehicles when new....

i will post updated auction #s later this month.

to those with Novembe lease ends, PLEASE keep checking and posting on this thread so we that we can all benefit and help one another.

i expect to call MBUSA later this month to discuss the buyout price and see where they start. I fully plan to have recent auction #s at hand and am going to push for a buyout as close to the average wholesale price as I can. I am also curious what kind of financing they will offer....i can get 4.75% for 3yrs, or 5% for 4 yrs.
  • lklein1lklein1 Member Posts: 24
My husband called this morning to see if my buyout has gotten any better. It was the same deal $28,800. They would not negotiate. He told him we could pay cash or finance--if one or the other options would make the deal better -- it didn't.
We will call back after Nov 1st to check one last time, but it looks like I will be getting a different car b/c I am not going to pay more than what other local non MB dealers have them listed for around here. Also, got rough quote of $700 on 2009 lease, while I could afford that much of a payment I just don't think its wise -- I've been listening to Dave Ramsey too much lately.
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
i agree. they must not have the auction data...the decision needs to be made higher up internally to price them just over wholesale. An MB dealer certainly wouldnt take it from MBFinance for $28k to resell when the dealer could get one at auction for $22-25k. And MBF hsa to know at a higher level internally that it has NOT chance of fetching even close $28k at auction....Give it a little time....Im going to push hard when i call and get past the leasing rep if need be to someone higher up.
  • shoreboundshorebound Member Posts: 6
I've called a couple of times and they quoted a 6.99% interest rate. Anyone getting anything different? I think by the end of the month the dramatic drop-off in sales will motivate them.
  • whitdogwhitdog Member Posts: 5
Anyone attempted to continue their lease or renegotiate payments based on residuals?

What are some of the "typical" offers on the '08 and '09 R350's? My lease is due Nov 18th. Wouldn't mind holding on to the car, but also would obv roll into a new one if the deal is good. Current lease payment on 06 R350 P1 pkg is $595/mo incl tax (PA) 10k annual miles (slightly over there).

    Any recent experience?
  • merseemersee Member Posts: 12
As a comparison to using auction results to negotiate lease buyouts, I just bought an 08 R350 4M from a NJ auction. It was a MB executive lease return. It has only 3,800 miles, P2 package, no panoramic roof, showroom condition, and paid $31, 250. Good deal?
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
i would say yes. ill get updated auction #s on '06s this week and post them. that price would put clean low mileage '06 350s in the mid to high 20s...
  • merseemersee Member Posts: 12
I went there with the intention of purchasing a low mileage 06, and from what I remember, they were going from $19K-$23K with miles ranging from 30K to 16K respectively. It was a good day for buyers generally.
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
that sound right....i was thinking 500s as I typed...
  • mjf415mjf415 Member Posts: 13
A dealer today in CT told me the interest rates to lease an '08 R350s was 9% while the rates on an '09 are ~ 4.5%. I'm looking for an '08 and the associated $9,000 dealer incentives but if the interest rates through Mercedes Benz really are that high I may reevaluate. Can anyone confirm this info? By the way, my R500 is coming off lease next month and they quoted me a buyout of $28,100 with 22,000 miles. If I extend the lease for another year they want to RAISE my payment from a little over $600 to $697. Thanks for any help you can offer.
  • jprescott1jprescott1 Member Posts: 29
Mfj415, my R500 is comming off lease soon. Residual is $40k. Did you get your buyout quote from the dealer of MB finance? I would pay $30K for mine. 20k miles, NAV MSRP was 63k(we had cap cost of $48k). I don't know best rout. JUST baught my 06' A8L from dealer and Audi finance would not budge! This was before market crash though.
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
you have to directly to MBF. not the dealer. it is funny that lease extensions always seem to be a rip off... i never understood that.

for whatever reson i thought that my lease was up next month...it is actually not up ti mid Jan.

    I have a 42k buyout (27mo lease) based on a 63k msrp.

i hope to have updated auction #s to post tomorrow so you all can call and know exactly what they are selling for.... shooting for a buyout a grand or two over auction prices seems reasonable...
  • jprescott1jprescott1 Member Posts: 29
irishrogue1 you are right where I am. Mid Jan off 27 months. So if I call MBF will they negotiate over the phone or do they stick to buyout? Advice on how to play this game would be appreciated.
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
i m new to this as well....there is "evidence" on this board that MBF has been knocking $10-12k off buyouts on the R to get pricing closer to wholesale numbers. As best I can tell the negotiated #s still seem to be $3-8k over wholesale #s. I think the goal is to shoot for a negotiated buyout that is maybe $1-2k over the highest above avg auction price for such model....i do not understand why MBF would settle for $22k for a car at auction rather than negotiate down from $42k and try to make a few thousand once they realize that they arent going to make $20k when you walk away....
  • mjf415mjf415 Member Posts: 13
I don't recall my residual at the time I leased the car, but the original sticker was about $63,500 for my R500 and the negotiated price was around $51,000--they were offering something like $12,000 dealer incentives at that point (November '06). I had a 24 month lease that is coming due in a few weeks. MBF told quoted me a 'special' buyout offer of $28,100 with 24,000 miles on the car. I'm not interested in buying because I expect that depreciation will continue to be pretty severe. We've been happy with the car but maintenance is expensive and will only become more of an issue as the miles add up. I'll call MBF, ask for the '08 money factors, and then post them here.
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
if $28,500 is their first offer, that is not a bad place to start....low mileage above avg condition could fetch $26-27k at auction based on prices from Aug/Sept. I m still trying to get late Sept/Oct prices to post....
  • lklein1lklein1 Member Posts: 24
My experience is they won't negotiate from what they tell you and won't let you talk to anyone else to negotiate. If anyone else gets past the price they give, please post how. I think I'm going to have to turn my car in and buy anothe 06 from somewhere else which is a bummer. My husband did find and negotiate an 06 R500 from a Ford dealership for $25,750. It was nice -- 17,000 miles on it, but it didn't have navigation or parking sensors -- 2 things I really like on my car.

My 06 R350 lease is ending this month, and I will really miss the luxury and comfort of this truly amazing crossover vehicle. Our family had quite a few road trips, including numerous drives from Northern Cal to San Diego, ski trips to Lake Tahoe, and enjoyable jaunts along the Pacific coastline.

The R350 is really a hidden jewel in MB's lineup, and those of us who have lived with this car have learned to appreciate its stellar features. Its a luxury vehicle in the true MB sense(not like the ML/GL SUV class), with a solid body for smooth quiet drives. Ours was loaded to the gills with almost every option, which is what we will really miss after the lease. I still get a kick every time I sit behind the wheel, knowing it is still a unique car that gets a lot of notice on the road.

MBF is offering a buyout of around $29K, which includes all tax and fees. I started to negotiate with them, but the agent said they've already taken it down from the original residual, with no more room to go. It is a shame to let it go, since I only have around 19K miles on the odometer. My target is to get them down to under $22K, possibly even $20K, which would make it attractive when I calculate the total lease payment was only around $12K(really low mf and discounts in 2006 for a 27 months lease, and I used 1 pay lease to minimize my out of pocket cost).

One concern I have about keeping this car is all the "gadgets" which will increase cost of ownership. I had no idea how expensive MB dealerships are until I paid $700+ for a "B" service, which is nothing more than an oil change with brake fluid recycle and tire rotation, along with the usual inspection and fluid top off.

Any comments or suggestions on how to deal with MBF would be appreciated.
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
there clearly continues to be a disconnect with the person or persons at MBF who are authorized to quote reduced buyout prices and actual wholesale auction prices. I do not understand why MBF does not want to sell you that car for a couple thousand over what they should know they will get at auction.... their business model for lease turn ins would make sense if the cars went right to dealers and could be sold at higher retail prices but that doesnt happen here and even if it did, dealers dont want used Rs....

It might be helpful to get the best price from MBF to offer cash - if MBF has to finance, they are looking at credit risk and tying up capital that they would rather use for new car sales....

I think everyone calling MBF needs to push to speak to someone higher up the food chain than the basic leasing representative. I emailed them for payoff options yesterday from my MBF online account. Ill let you know what I hear when they respond....
  • cary28cary28 Member Posts: 53
The leasing agent told me they've already taken $19K off the original lease reisdual value to arrive at the $26,800 buyout price. The car was fully loaded, and I think the original MSRP was over $65K.

Its going to be tough walking away from so many toys built into this car!
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
they are trying to pull one over on you.....yes they already have significantly discounted the residual quite a bit but they KNEW that they were creating situations where the residuals would be much higher than actual market values when they discounted the capitalized cost of the lease by $10-16k 2 yrs ago. dont forget that residual values are based on msrp not the discounted capitalized cost. the reality is that this model didnt sell new and is selling even worse used...we are talking depreciation from msrp of around 60% in 2 years.

we need to keep hitting them over the head with auction values...they have to make rational choices at some point....
  • mjf415mjf415 Member Posts: 13
I called MBF today but they would not give me the October money factors. On Saturday I'm going to a few dealerships to check prices and lease offers. I'll post what happens then.
  • jprescott1jprescott1 Member Posts: 29
What's to prevent me from telling them I have 35,000 miles on the car when in fact it's only 20,000? Is there a pre- sale inspection or a mileage check? I guess what I'm asking is how to negotiate the deal by phone with MBF.
  • irishrogue1irishrogue1 Member Posts: 127
it looks like $25-26k for an above avg, low mileage, well optioned R500...so MBF SHOULD be quite happy to get $26-28k on a buyout regardless of what how much they have to discount your buyout.

Usually, when you buy a car, the seller has to fill out an odometer statement. My guess is there might be a fly in the ointment somewhere along the line, if you do indeed purchase the car from them.

But.. If I'm negotiating, and am asked for the mileage, I'd just say that it looks like I'll come in just under my allowance, without answering specifically. Maybe, they'd just assume a certain amount. Once you've agreed to a deal, then maybe no one will take notice.

But, I certainly wouldn't lie about it. They may be able to extrapolate an approximate amount from your service records. I'd just be coy... and see what happens, first.

Hi - would you have R350 #'s available as well? I have an 06 R350 that will be due next month and I have been watching this site for awhile. I will post what I can negotiate. Thanks

Called in today. Rate is negotiable. Sounds like it's fixed out at 90 days. I got a very reasonable buyout rate. No inspection necessary. I cut a check and it's over. $27,648 out the door includes ALL fees and tax. $25,500 is base rate at maturity. 60% depreciation over 27 mos. Ouch!!

THAT IS GREAT NEWS. $25,500 is pretty much right were the price should be based on auction values right now. when is your 27 mo lease up?

When you say rate, are you talking about the interest rate or the $ buyout? How many miles did you have on the car? What interest rate did you get?

    Thanks.

Can you tell me what you said or who you had to talk to get the buyout down? I will be calling one last time beginning of November. I will be a cash buyer so not concerned on interest rate. My lease is up Nov 21 and the people keep calling to schedule the inspection.

I emailed MB financial from my online account for lease end options and just got quoted a buyout of 27,459 incl taxes/fees. finance rate of 7.89% for 60mos. credit union rate is 5.75% for 60mos on used car.

Okay I'm convinced MB Finacial hates me since my quote has been $28,900 NOT INCLUDING Taxes and Fees and I only have a measly little R350.

I have an 06 R350 MSRP was $58,000. My lease is up the end of November and I have 30,000 miles. They offered $14,900 off the residual which makes it $23,500 and walking away for $25,200. I was hoping to purchase around $20,000, but I have only been paying $450/month for my lease with $0 down and 15K miles per year on a $58K car. I'm wondering if my residual is higher than most and that is why the price is what it is. I can't complain but I might not buy. I know that within the next year I will need new tires, brakes, and another service totally around $2,000. These vehicles continue to decline far too fast. I only wish my lease was up around January. I think the "cash incentive" will continue to rise...hopefully before my lease is up. Does anyone have the most recent auction numbers for the R350's? That would be greatly appreciated! Good luck everyone
