Small world, I'm looking at the same cars. The Eclipse is not selling well so demand should be low. When I was at the auto show I sat in both and found them to be of similar size inside even though the Eclipse is suppose to be a compact coupe. Altima has a better driving position and the performance specs are slightly better in almost every area.
I'm also looking at the Pontiac G6 coupe and the new Honda Accord coupe. The G6 has a lot of rebates on it. The Honda is beautiful inside but a bit pricey.

Usually I blame this on PENNDOT who seems to think that if there are 6 turns between point A and point B that they only need to put signs at three of the turns since you need to bear some of the responsibility of figuring out where you are going. The only problem with this is it would mean all drivers from Pennsylvania should act like Philly drivers and they just don't.
Maybe the Philly folks are just dodging imaginary potholes.
At that time the value between the Yen and the Dollar was much disproportionate, the cars were much cheaper than American auto's, the dealers in the area would add addendums to the retail price asking $3000 more than the factory MSRP.
The product was scarce, most of the cars were sold before they came in by truck, prices were not very negotiable, about the most discount a person would get was a $1000 off the addendum sticker.
I sold ten cars my first month and got the biggest paycheck I had ever made up to that point, I was hooked.
Toyota opened up their first plant in 1986 in Fremont Ca. and built the FX 16 and Corollas side by side with the Chevy Nova. As the cars started becoming easier to build Toyota started talking up customer retention with their dealer network, they wanted people to be as happy with their purchasing experience as they were with their cars.
Any dealer money that a salesman might make from the factory for the sale of a car was dependent upon the salesman scoring above average on the customer satisfaction survey.
Later customer satisfaction became important to dealers as well, the dealers with the highest scores would get extra cars and bragging rights among the dealership groups.
A salesman Customer Satisfaction score as measured by a survey that goes out to a majority of new car purchasers became a way for dealers to screw their salesforce out of a part of their commission. Dealers would penalize salesmen whose scores were not above average by withholding a sizable sum of their commissions at settlement every month.
It's the most frustrating thing in the world when a customer you loved and thought loved you returns a survey with a failing score because of something they checked off that you have absolutely no control of, something like appearance of parking, courtesy of the finance person that settled the deal, vehicle clean and without imperfection, ease of parking at the dealership.
If a customer is bargaining with me about the price of a car and I'm not willing to reduce my price further and lower my commission, that customer has only to say that if I agree to their offer when they get the survey they'll be sure to give me a perfect score to make me do anything that they want.
I find an increasing amount of people are aware of this and use it to good effect in negotiations.
I think that CSI is simply a tool for the manufacturers to help their dealer network pay less to commissioned salesmen, if their dealers can't make money from customers they'll help their dealers screw with the money that they would otherwise have to pay to salesmen.

I agree with what you say about the loss of small business in America. (Notice that I changed paragraphs because this is a different topic.) Chicago is very lucky to have a person of ethics and a caring nature such as yourself. When it comes to the treatment of customers, many car salesmen could take lessons from you.
I know that it sucks, but if you have to do the bald thing, it will be ok. I finally had to do it and most people really like it.
You know how guys are about saying things, but all of them here really are pulling for you. You need to be reminded of that once in a while.

I relayed the info about the Altima Coupe....new model, few discounts, blah, blah. I also told her that the Mitsu was priced the same on the MRP sticker. But since the discounts are more plentiful, there'd probably be a $1,000 swing in what the bottom line cost would be between the two (Altima being higher).
She's a soux chef at one of my favorite restaurants. As such, she doesn't make a lot, but is learning a ton, in hopes of opening up her own joint. She actually likes the look of the Eclipse better. I believe they have a better warranty, too.
She's no speed demon. She just likes sporty coupes. Her current ride is an '01 Celica GT. Nothing wrong with it. It only has 48K miles. I told her to keep it. She just finished paying it off a few months ago. She's bound and determined to have another car note, though.

The Accord I saw at the show was simply beautiful. The sales rep was also helpful. When I couldn't fit into it because the power seat was set too high and turned off he popped the hood and re-connected the battery so I could lower the seat. This despite the fact I was dressed kind of shabby. I could tell he thought I wasn't "Honda Material".
The Pontiac folks were MIA the whole 3 days of the show. Not impressed by that, rebates or not.

One of the cars that came from the car show last week has a blue driver's seat...nice. Unfortunatly we got this car.
It looks like someone with new blue jeans sat in the driver's beige leather seat and squirmed thier butt around?
So far, we can find nothing that will get the blue off!

Is that right? I've always fancied (but never bought) a car with a leather interior, it's probably just as well since I wear blue jeans a lot. I think it was the thought of having to care for leather regularly that put me off as much as anything.
As far as "caring" for leather, I do nothing for mine and it's fine. Maybe once every couple of years, I'll use Lexol. Takes me ten minutes, no big deal.

Not when I checked. It was no higher than for a Galant sedan. Of course you wild young guys may be in a different tier. Most sport coupes I researched were about the same as their sedan counterparts.
