I found the fog lights are very weak, not recently but due to its design. At night when I turn fog lights on, I could see very slight brightness increase on the road surface. My 00 RX300 fog lights are way brighter. Is there anything I could do to improve without overdrawing too much current?

    Thanks

I replaced the bulbs in my 03 to Sylvania Silverstars. Bright White light close to the HID headlamps.

The truck spent 4 days at the Infinity dealer they finally found a cracked upper strut mount on the driver side replaced under warranty. Now all quiet over the bumps.
  • jiaminjiamin Member Posts: 556
That sounds like a great improvement. Do you still remember the new bulb's wattage? the stock is 55 Watts.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Hello all!
I bought 2002 Infiniti QX4 from private party. However, he didn't gave me owner's manual.

Do you know any website from which I can download the owner's manual.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I'm trying to take the right side headlight assembly off. (Not just the light bulb) Is there any one have a pdf manual, or can simply tell me instruction on how to take it off?

Mine is 2001 model by the way. Thank you.

Hi, everyone. As you've probably noticed, we have been trying to refine the discussions into more narrowly focussed topics. Our objective is twofold. We want to make it easier for people seeking specific information about their vehicles to find it easily and without having to wade through hundreds or thousands of postings.

To those ends, we will be shutting down the general make/model discussions and work exclusively with specific issues. This requires us to populate the make/model subsections with relevant, interesting and timely topics. Rather than having the hosts simply create boilerplate topics for each make/model, we feel that you, the owner, the make/model enthusiast and the prospective buyer can best judge what those topics should be.

You can help by adding a discussion (it's easy!) or suggesting one here.

To add a discussion, click on the last link in the "You are here" line at the top of this page. That will take you to the topic page for this make/model. Review the list of topics and click on the "Add discussion" link when you've decided what topic you'd like to add. Follow the directions and you're done! Feel free to add more than one. Just avoid duplicating existing topics and try not to make it TOO specific!

Your help and continued participation in the Forums is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Six CD stuck in the CD changer in my 2001 QX4. Got an err 2 and CD will not replay and will not reject.

It seems that this is a prevalent problem for QX4 as I saw several posts about this. Appreciate any information about the fix. I saw a website that will fix an ERR2 problem in QX4 for $295 plus S/H, but one has to remove it first and ship to them. Has anybody tried to pry the panels and remove the CD player? Is it a tough job? What kind of tools are needed. The car only has 38,000 miles and look quite new with no scratches. I do not want to scratch the dash panels by doing it myself if it is a difficult job. Any information will be appreciated.

Is there a way to convert the 02 QX4 back center 2-point seat belt to 3-point?

Last summer I had to replace the mass air flow sensor in my 98 QX-4, a pricey little item. Now my new sensor is behaving the same way as the old one did. Occansionally during idle (idles at about 750 rpm - is this low?) the sensor will act up and the car will not idle or run rough and stall. The check engine light will come on and the error is the mass air flow circuit. If I get out and wiggle the plug on the sensor it will behave normally again. I replaced the plug and that was not the problem. I find if I tap on the sensor it will either fix or cause the problem. I worry that two sensors should behave this way inside a year and wonder if there might be another problem that is causing them to fail. Anybody have any ideas?

I have the same problem with my 99.5 QX4.
Did you ever get it resolved or does anyone know what the problem is.

    Thx

Went to a local mechanic and he removed a protective aluminum shield running around exhaust pipes, under a car. In one place bracket has rusted and broke, this was making rattling noise. (total cost to me to remove it $20 ;-) :shades:

I just purchased this vehicle from a large Acura dealership.
After sitting in the garage for about a week, I noticed a "oil slick" under the right front area of the engine. My local mechanic thinks it is the oil cooler. Before replacing the cooler,he ordered two O rings and hopefully that corrects the problem. Has anyone else had this happen?
So far, I really like the SUV. It has many luxury features, drives great and the engine has lots of power.
    THANKS!

In my 2002 Infiniti QX4, there is a rattling noise coming from the area of the rear right passenger seat. It sounds almost like a mini woodpecker. The sound can be heard on and off, but usually when it is cold and when the car has just been started. Several dealers have tried to correct it, but none have been able to find the source and eliminate the sound. Any ideas on what it is and how to stop it?
  • qx4owner2qx4owner2 Member Posts: 5
you could try to go under the car and verifying that protective metal shield around exhaust system (running all away on the button of the car around exhaust pipes)is connected and non of it is rusted. I had few bolts rusted and it would make same noise as yours.

I own a 2001 QX4. Anyone know where I can get two head rest( TAN Leather - used in good condition) from besides the dealer. I`am the 2nd owner. Owner # 1 made off with then. Two new head rest @ the dealer sell for 513.00 after taxes.

    Thanks

I just bought a 2002 QX4 with 107000 miles on it a few days ago. I am a little apprehensive as to the service and repair costs on this vehicle. Can anybody recommend a knowledgeable and experienced but affordable Nissan/Infiniti mechanic in the Chicago area preferably in the north suburbs that will come close to Edmund's recommended costs? Also what do you guys think about buying an extended warranty for this car from Infiniti or elsewhere considering its high mileage?
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
While you're waiting for a reply here you may want to look at Extended Warranties.

I have a 2001 qx4 and one of my backup lights needs to be replaced. How do u get access to the bulbs? I have looked in the manual but it is not too clear on how to do it.

It took me so long to finally replace "one" of the fog light bulbs with Silverstar H3ST (55W, street legal), as the Pep Boys I bought from had only one left. Silverstar is definately brighter but it does not look close to the HID headlamp. As long as I can see more road, I don't care if it's more yellow or white...

Just turned in my 2003 QX4. I had a 2003 Pathfinder radio in it which I removed, and put back the original unit. This unit looks just like the 02-03 QX4 6CD unit except it had an extra port in the rear for the Sat Radio harness. It also says CAT & DISP on the display window. I am selling it on ebay no. 160096879360. With it you can have factory built in Satellite radio in your 02-03 QX4. I also have the newer Visteon sirius unit I used in it for sale. You can also use the Nissan OEM XM tuner as well.

I wonder if there is some film which blocks UV but still nearly transparent? I am in CA where I don't think front window tint is allowed (most states don't allow).

One time I was driving a rental car going south to San Diego in summer. After a few hours, my left arm got some sunburn...

When my Qx4 comes to a red light and idling, I tried shifting it to "N" then back to "D", I feel a slight "push".
When I shift the second time to "N" and ack to "D", I feel much less of that. It is the same whether at 2WD or Auto.

Did same test on RX300 and it has much less "push" even the first time shift.

I absolutely guarantee I know what's causing the noise! Happend to me about 6 months ago and drove me nuts for 3 days..but...

It is emanting from the area where the right-rear seat BACK pivots and contacts metal underneath the carpet. Go back there, remove the headrest and put aside (when I say right-rear I am referring to right as viewed from back of vehicle).

OK....pull up on the tab that pulls forward the bottom (butt) cushion, and pull until the cushion is vertical.

Now the culprit as I said is the seat back/contact zone. Pull the lever, and move the seatback forward a couple of inches, then push it back to the lock. This, or similar/perhaps faster repetition should reproduce your sound. The sound is more like a clicking sound... I placed a piece of cardboard under the area where it's occurring.

This is tough to describe, so if you need additional info feel free to email me at radioclashman at aol.com

    Good luck!!!!!

Is it OK to clean the vinyl surface with leather cleaner and conditioner? I guess it's OK but maybe not the best way.

"My pathfinder was driving fine then started making a clunking noise then it stalled. I brought it to the dealer to be told that 2 screws in the intake manifold back themselves out and got sucked into the engine and completly destroyed it. Nissan is saying it is my problem because i am outside the warranty. But this is a huge manufacturing defect that Nissan knows about and won't recognize. They want $9,000 to put in a new motor or $5,000 for a used one that has more miles then the one I had. The car is only worth a bit more then the repair costs..."

The above is from NICO.com, and they say this failure happened on quite a few VQ35 engines.

I haven't heard it from anywhere else but NICO.

Could the 2000 Infinti QX4 possibly be the most reliable Nissan vehicle ever made in history? I followed all the Consumer Reports vehicle reliability rating for the past 20 years, and 2000 Infiniti QX4 turns out to be Nissan's most reliable vehicle ever made in history. Is it worth buying one used, given by its status? After that, Nissan has gone way downhill in reliability, and there's a high chance, I think, that Nissan will no longer match with Toyota and Honda for reliability again. Unfortunately, the more powerful QX4 after 2001 is not excellent in reliability.
  • jiaminjiamin Member Posts: 556
I haven't checked reliability at CR but briefly checked at msn.com. Not sure how "reliable" their reliability indicator is, but it seems 98, 99, 00 are the same, 01 is worse (with serious engine problem?), 02 is the same as 98-00, 03 (the last year) is the best.
  • jiaminjiamin Member Posts: 556
Yes, from CR, 99 and 00 are the best (full red circle), 97, 98, 01, 02 and 03 are next to 99-00 in their "overall" indicators (half red dot).

I hope nothing will happen to my 02 down the road. So far, it has none.

Today, my 5 year old battery suddenly died. At Costco I bought one Kirkland battery. It is supposed to be the same size, group 25, but it is smaller than the original. Therefore, the plastic thing that goes onto the battery is loose.

There are two pieces of metal looking squares on the plastic, next to each other but on two different sides, both close to engine. Anyone knows what those pieces are for? To block heat from engine?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Maybe you are supposed to pull them off and use them to make the battery fit in the battery tray with the hold down device. I've seen a few car batteries with universal adapter fittings so you can bolt them into place in various cars.

Or maybe they are hiding side terminals?
  • jiaminjiamin Member Posts: 556
    Hi Steve,

This smaller battery is bolted down in the tray very well and secure. The plastic thing is thin, like a thick paper, with the same height as the new battery. It is loose horizontally, but its top is held down under the crossbar so it will not move.

I am not sure why the original batery died so fast. I didn't feel any slow cranking the day before. Only in the morning the battery was noticeably weak but started engine OK. After about 6 miles drive to Costco putting gas in, battery was completely dead.

Actually I didn't expect any reply soon. This thread is not very active.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Beats me. Maybe if you post a photo of it on your CarSpace page, someone can clue us in (yeah, you have me curious - it's been a few years since I shopped for a battery).
  • jiaminjiamin Member Posts: 556
    Hi Steve,

I tried to learn how to post pictures by searching around, but soon gave up struggle. Would you please tell me how?

    Thanks
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
The easiest way is to upload your photos to your CarSpace page in an Album there.

One you've done that, you can click on one of your photos. There'll be two boxes there - one's a URL for linking to your photo and the other box has the URL for pasting the photo into a post. So copy the stuff in one of the boxes and paste that code into a post.

If you know the URL of your photo (maybe it's hosted elsewhere), you can use the IMG button under the posting box - so you'd click the button, paste the code and then click the button again to close the code.

Still too confusing? There's a simpler explanation in the Help file.
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
If you click on the "help" link at the bottom of this page you will find instructions for posting pictures. Briefly, you need to (a) find a host for your pictures (such as your own ISP) then (b) type <img src="the exact address of your picture">.

It's even easier when you set up your own CarSpace (see link at the top of this page). Once you have done that, just go to your CarSpace and copy the link for insertion into a message here if you want to display the picture in our Forums.

[EDIT: Steve types real fast! :)]

My interior door pulls on my QX4 are in rough shape and I would like to replace them. Is there a parts supplier that may have these items, Basically the wood tone is wearing away.
  • myqx4myqx4 Member Posts: 2
Well glad to meet all, first thing, I just bought a 1999 infinty qx4 with 95000 miles and so far I do like it alot. Many pro's but a few cons. I think that the interior is great, I like the leather, sunroof, power everything, climate control 6 disc cd changer, bose surround sound great handling, 2 wheel, 4 wheel, all wheel, and 4 low drive. Just an allround great vehicle, and for the price you will not find any other vehicle with all the comes standard bells and whistles, Nothing cheap about infinty,

However I am glad to be giving this vehicle a good life, because the previos owner, well lets just say the oil was black, transmission had never been flushed or filter changed, it had original belts. But it is a new age, and a better life despite the decrepid handliing of such a nice vehicle. They did not destroy it completly though the transmission had no leaks nor were there any metal shavings just a tad bit of sludge on the magnet I have since changed all the belts, added a new trany filter and gasket, put in full synthetic mobile one oil, changed out the 3 year old air filter and now she pers like a kitten, not to mention I had all the widows tinted.. Only thing left to do is a tune-up.

Now on to the CONS, First and formost is the I wont say absolute lack of engine power however a few more horses under the hood wouldnt hurt, There is a bit of noise from the engine as I drive, but once you get up to the cruising speed of 65 she coasts along, and it does seem the faster I go the smoother the ride gets. As far as gas milege goes reg unleaded gives me 17.3 mile per gallon and plus gives me 17.8 miles per gallan 80% freeway and 20% city, Personaly not enough to really care about I'll stick to regular unleaded.

All that said I do love my truck. I own my own buisness and use it for the company , I have a full size 5 drawer tool chest in the back and I dont even have to lay down the seats. NOW NOW I know what you are thinking HE IS USING IT AS A WORK TRUCK, "Inconceivable"!!! But I treat it well, and I am not finished on the upgrades.. and in case you are wondering I paid 7500 hundred for the vehicle. and one more point of intrest there is a 900 dollar add on NADA for the low miliege however I checked as soon as the miles goes to 101,000 miles I lose the add and it drops the value by almost a thousand, now I new this going in but I felt I was getting a great deal any way that even when it happens It will still be worth more than I paid for it.

If you have any questions for me feel free to post them and I will try to get back. I know I had alot of questions when I was buying mine... O and by the way most all of the parts can be found at you local auto parts dealer or if need be just cruise over to nissan where you will pay 30% less since the pathfinder and the qx4 are one and the same.... Sorry the post was so long I just wanted to be helpfull....Looking forward good times....

A good long story. I bought a 1998 in early 2006. I had never driven a 4WD before. Noticed that when I start the engine for the first time every morning, the 4WD light on the dashboard would stay on until the engine is shut-off and restarted again. Investigated and learned that the 4WD light is supposed to light-up when the engine starts, blink for a moment and then go away in normal driving mode. The 4WD light should stay on only if the 4WD is engaged. Lost my mind and went to the dealer. After paying a $100 inspection chrage was advised that the solenoid is broken and would cost over $1,000. Took to a transmission guy who advised me to go back to dealer. What actually is the issue? Will appreciate some advice.
