A [non-permissible content removed]? Really? I know that guy in person. I used to go to church w/ him. I thought the guy was kinda dumb, but not a [non-permissible content removed]. Hey, Simon, if you're reading this and if you want to know who I am, I'll give you a hint - if you knew I was going to be a rich man today, you would've probably sold me a brand new Lexus RX by now, but you had no idea. Well, I don't blame you. Everybody in the church underestimated me big time. Too bad it's their loss. Recently, I've bought a brand new Mercedes ML from Barrier after driving BMW X5 for a while. I'm currently looking for a church, too, but it won't be your father's stinking church for sure. Anyway, I certainly want to hear what happened between CC82 and the [non-permissible content removed]. LMAO!

I have been delaying to buy this car for quite some time and was in contact with a dealer. I am now ready to buy it. As I have been talking to this dealer he says he is gonna give me the best he could. Here is what offered

Lexus RX 350 AWD,NP, CP, PP, Wood & Leather, CargoMat&Net, 12-Speaker, Tow Prep, WheelLocks,
    MSRP (inc Destination Charge): 47250.00$
Dealer Price:42897.00$ (says he can go little below, wont reveal invoice price yet)
Is this a good price in NY/NJ are?

I have not talked to any other dealer, but on phone got price of 42900$ from another dealer. I saw some posting with price as low as 40500.00$ in CA area. One more dealer offered to be near this mark with an added incentive of 25000Miles recommended service.

Also, I was thinking of additional equipment
19 Inc Wheels, Sports Package & 120 V power plug.
What do you guys think of these options, are they useful, especially Sports Package. Since I wanted a little more road feel in curves.

    Thanks

Thank you marabunta for sharing your experience. It sounds like you got a great deal on the vehicle. Did the MSRP price of $47,250 include the destination charge and any other additional fees? I went to their site and when I spec it out with the NAVI package it does not add up to $47,250? Can you also list all the options it came with including any factory installed options. Cheers!

It did not include the $1000 I spent for dealer installed chrome wheels or their document fees, California taxes and California license fee. I hope this helps you. Note that Orange County has less sales tax than Los Angeles County. Here you go, but I deleted part of the vin and key code:

I think the 2010 RX 350 will be the same as the 2011, The 2011 GX will have a body change and is coming out in a few months?
  • jsportjsport Member Posts: 4
tobe, if you read marabunta's post you can clearly see that he did in fact purchase the 4x2 model thus accounting for the difference in base price for the vehicle.

Please post specs with price breakdown of any new purchases. This would definitely help people who are currently working on deals =)

I would like to update my post. I gave the dealership a $3,000 deposit on my car, but they were to install the chrome wheels before I picked it up and finalized the purchase this evening. I went to get the car and they had not yet installed the wheels because they were out of stock in the parts department. I decided I wanted to take the car with me this evening so I went to pay them the balance. At that point I noticed that the balance was higher than it should have been. Upon looking into the matter, they stated that my price should have been plus the destination charge. I pointed out to them that they said the car was originally $47,269 and that they had agreed to sell me the car for $40,900 and that since they included the destination charge in the price that they quoted for the original price of the vehicle that would indicate that the lower price should include the destination charge. A manager came in and agreed to allow me to purchase the car for the quote with it including the destination charge. The salesman commented that they may be changing the way that they respond to requests for internet price quotes. I wanted to point this out to avoid anyone having last minute changes to their deals. They really want to sell the cars and I believe that people may be able to get the destination charges included in the price as I did. Again good luck.

Did anyone purchase RX bought extra warranty? Can you share your experience as what kind of warranty and price? Is that price negotiable? Is it worth it? Thx.

Ok-here's what I got then for 4x4 AWD....Does anyone got anything lower then from anywhere else? Seems like people were making 41-42K for same spec (maybe park assist and 1-2 things extra in this quote).

Thanks for all the posts in this forum. I learned a lot from it. I bought 2010 RX 350 AWD last weekend. NP, CP , PP , remote engine start...... MSRP $47,625. I found Lexus of Watertown and IRA of Manchester NH have the best price. I bought the car from Manchester dealer - the sales person is very nice and they are quick on the negotiation. Lexus of Northborough is nice but the price is not competitive- it wastes time to negotiate for 1 hour and only get a couple of hundreds discount. I recommend IRA Manchester NH. They don't allow me to publish the price I get, but let me say it is a very good price. They can match any price in MA area. If Manchester is too far for you, try Watertown. Their price is agressive as well.

I think the timing is getting better and better towards year end. So be patient and shop around , you will get what you want .

    Happy holidays!

    Good luck!

Can you say if there was a large difference between Manchester and Watertown?

I purchased mine with 19 inch wheels. When I picked it up, it was parked next to one with 18 inch wheels and that vehicle looked much smaller. I would go with the 19 inch just for appearance sake.

I am in northern Indiana and I am shopping for a 2010 RX 350, with Nav, Premium, comfort, park assist, remote start. I am seeing the various prices paid in this forum varying between 41-43 k (before tax etc). When I offered a price of 43k, the dealer showed me the document with invoice price of 43410 (sticker about 48k), and said that they could not go below invoice. My question is whether people in the forum are getting cars below invoice? or is the invoice price in my dealer higher than other places? does the invoice price change in different cities?
The invoice price in edmunds and kbb for a similar configuration is about 1000-1500 less than the factory invoice document the dealer showed me.Why is that?? I am frustrated!!
  • marabuntamarabunta Member Posts: 24
I believe that the invoice can change to to difference in transportation costs. Dealers can and do sell the RX350s below the invoice, particularly at the end of the model year. New ones should be out in February. Don't know if there will be much in the way of changes, probably not.
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
I do not believe Edmund's cost shows local dealer advertising. There is also a dealer hold back which the dealer invoice you were shown probably did not show. This could be about 2%, but I am not certain. Based on many previous posts, numerous discounts amount to over $5000. Have you obtained internet quotes or visited other dealers which is probably your best bet. If you tell the dealer you visited, you are serious and ready to buy now, make an offer you are comfortable with and they may sell it to you at that price, especially toward the end of the month. Mention numerous people are receiving over a $5000 discount I think, the amount of future cars a dealer is allocated is based on how many cars they have sold in a previous month or year. Let us know what happens.

Thanks to the economic stimulus bill, also known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, you may be able to deduct any state or local sales or excise tax on your federal taxes. This deduction is intended to encourage more Americans to buy cars and pump money into the struggling economy.

Here are some of the details of the tax deduction you should know:

    • The deduction is only available on new car purchases as long as you are the first owner of the car, it is eligible.

    • The deduction is available for both foreign and domestic vehicles.

    • You can only take a deduction for the taxes paid on up to $49,500 of the purchase price. If the car costs more than $49,500 it still qualifies, but only that amount is considered for the deduction.

    • Only new car purchases between February 16, 2009 and January 1, 2010 are eligible.

    • The deduction can only be made on your 2009 taxes. Even if you are filing an amended 2008 tax return or have an extension, you cannot claim this deduction on your 2008 returns.

    • New cars, SUVs, minivans, light trucks, recreational vehicles and motorcycles all qualify for this deduction. Both standard engine cars and hybrid cars alike are eligible.

    • This is an “above the line” deduction, meaning it can be used whether or not you itemize other deductions on your tax return.

    • There are income restrictions with this deduction. It is only available to taxpayers with a modified adjusted gross income of less than $135,000 for individual filers and $260,000 for joint filers. The deduction is phased out between $125,000 and $135,000 for individual filers and between $250,000 and $260,000 for joint filers.

That said, keep in mind that this is a tax deduction and not a tax credit. What that means is that this tax break does not offset your federal taxes, it lowers your taxable income. Consequently, the amount you receive depends on what tax bracket you are in.

Here’s an example of how this tax deduction works:

Suppose you buy a new car for $28,280, the average 2008 purchase price, according to the National Automobile Dealers Association. You don’t have a trade-in, so you are taxed for the full amount. The sales tax for your state is 8.25%. That means you would have to pay about $2,333 in sales taxes.

With this tax deduction, your taxable income would then be reduced by that amount. If you were in the 28% tax bracket, you would get about $653 back when you file your taxes. If additional local taxes were charged, these would also be deductible. Those in higher tax brackets benefit more from this deduction.

    tq2063,
I think you just need a little more info about how the dealerships work. I was confused just like you. I found a great website that explains everything you need to know. Go to the website http://www.carbuyingtips.com/carintro.html. Scroll down all the way to the bottom and read all 7 chapters. Once you read these you will be very clear on the differences between invoice versus dealer cost and how the dealers can manipulate invoices. Just FYI, I got mine for $41500 which had a MSRP of 47253. Let me know if you need any more help.

thanks lobsterma for this info. I did the internet pricing, or tried, and watertown called, they were very nice and informative about packages etc. so I may go in just before xmas. Of course, take everything with the skepticism required. Went to northborough and they didn't even want to tell me what the net price would be only the msrp 43-44K, I told them Edmunds said 36K. That's what I want to pay with the prem package, remote start. They suggested pre owned. Any chance you think that will be possible?

    thanks again.
  • rar2rar2 Member Posts: 13
thanks for the info marabunta, I'm trying to get the RX 350 with Premium Package plus remote start for 36K but it seems that may not happen, but close. CA and MA pricing seems very similar.

tg2063, Where in Northern Indiana are you? These dealers in midwest are playing hardball because of the weather..The prices will be more discounted come late January, when the 2011 model will be around the corner. It sucks. I don't know what the "December to Remember" benefit really is that Lexus is promoting. The only people who will remember December in a good way are the dealers, not the consumers...The car industry still operates as if we are in 70's, in terms of negotiation and pricing.
  • dcmacheaddcmachead Member Posts: 13
I saw the new GX at a gas station in McLean, VA with new tags on it. It looked like a nice car and it's a nice update externally compared to the 2010 model. I didn't look at the interior of the car, but the outside looked a lot less "top heavy".

We are in the same boat. Looking to replace our 2004 RX 330 with the 2010 model and am frustrated that NO dealer in the southeast region even has a vehicle with the Mark Levinson package on the lot. I would like to experience it for myself before buying it. I've complained to Lexus directly only to get a runaround about "buyer preferences, blah blah blah". If it's not on the lot to "kick the tires" then how are people supposed to know whether they really want the option. I called the Newport News dealer and he said the same thing. Although he did admit that the dealership owner purchased a 2010 RX 350 with ML sound package for his wife. I don't get it! Very frustrating. Might even have to go back and give the Acura and Infiniti a second look. :confuse: Anyone out there actually experienced the ML system? Feedback? Is it worth the price? We are quite frankly disappointed with the sound system in our 2004 RX. Very baseline and cheesy if you ask me...not Lexus-worthy. Thought?
  • soulmamasoulmama Member Posts: 25
I am a bit frustrated with the dealers in the Seattle area. None of them will give me a quote on an RX 350, and don't appear to be interested in giving much of a discount. I guess they don't have much competition up here.

I'm tempted to lease a car from a dealer somewhere in California. These are my assumptions/questions:

If I lease the car from Lexus, it doesn't matter where I live and that I will pay taxes in the state that it is registered in.

I can drive to CA and use my car as a trade-in.

I can take it to the Lexus dealer of my choice for service, so it really doesn't matter where the car is purchased.

Does anyone see a reason for establishing a relationship with a local dealer? Don't they all have to service all Lexus cars, regardless of where they were purchased? I have bought quite a few cars but never felt the need to have a close relationship with the dealer. Quite frankly, if I have to keep going back to the dealer I don't want to buy the car in the first place.

Thanks for all of your help with this.

Agree with all your points. The quality of service is comparable during warranty period, whether or not you buy the car from the dealer. Sales and service department are not that co-ordinated in the dealership anyways. After the warranty is over, they all want to rip you off on service / maintenance / repair. Instead of dealer, it will help if you have a relationship with the service department or the actual mechanic (harder to do, because they don't let you get in touch with mechanic easily).

The lexus december to remember event doesn't offer much for people who want to buy, paying in cash. The best deals are in CA and NJ area. What do you guys think they will do after Jan 4 to keep selling? In your experience, are prices better in January / February, when the new model will be around the corner?

I do not believe there are any incentives for cash sales, and I doubt new models will be introduced in February. I am purchasing a vehicle this week, so if you learn about any deals for purchase for the December sales event, please let us know.

My local Lexus dealer's service manager stated that sales and service are two separate departments and they will do whatever is necessary to keep me happy even though the car was purchased elsewhere because they wouldn't meet my price requirements. Contrary to what sales told me, I still get the gourmet breakfast, free loaner and quick and dirty car wash. However if you don't have warranty issues, which are few; and can forgo those niceties, you can get the same parts and level of competency at a Toyota dealer for about half the price. My 2¢.

I drove a fully loaded RX with the ML system.

It was nice, but I'm not sure worth the extra $$$ over the system that comes standard with Navi.

Especially if your freeways are as bad as ours are up here in WA.

If you've paid that or less, please let me know where. Hoping to find in Texas but would pick up elsewhere. Thanks!

I have spoken to several dealerships in Ohio, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. And they have told me that this price ($41K with NAV) does not exist. Because I am holding out for that same price with NAV.

I have received quotes without NAV for 2010 RX350 for $40K.

    @ charlie99

In NJ, I know a dealer that will sell with the Nav and remote starter for $42K, the no Nav package is $39K I am not sure where you are, but the $40K for no nav still a bit high. I have not seen below $41.5K for the nav one 2010 AWD that is!

    Happy holidays.

I am looking to close a deal on a RWD Lexus 350 with Premium and the dealer in Raleigh is offering the following

"""front wheel drive that are equipped
with the premium package, wood package, cargo mat, cargo net and wheel
locks. It carries an MSRP of $41006 and I can offer it to you for $38933
+ NC tax, NC tag and titling fees, so your grand total with everything
    would be $40649.99.

Any recommendations on how much lower i can drag him.. I have seen quotes of 37000+TTL on similar configurations.. Can you pls tell me which dealers

You should be able to purchase that car from Park Place Lexus in Mission Viejo, CA for $36,000 with a waiver of California tax & license.

I had a quote in Watertown, MA on 12/24/09 for FWD, premium pkg, wood\leather steering wheel, heated/ventilated seats, accy pkg, remote, cargo mat, accy pkg and wheel locks I believe for 36,886 excluding tax, title & registraiton. I am looking for AWD for little more than that, not sure I can get it, but...this is what they said the FWD would be. There are a number of things that the New England cars are automatically equipped with that may not be in your area (ie remote start).

Hope this helps. similar to what marabunta said.
