Yes, even the European C70's do have a tripcomputer. And yes, I surely want to use it. But,.. then you want to be sure that those things are reliable. By having tested it this way, I know now for sure that 2 out of 3 methods are NOT reliable.

Anyways, thought I would sound in on this topic and let you know that I get more dust on my back wheels than my front wheels. Sadly I went nearly a month not washing the car so it was very noticeable when I washed it this past Saturday. I don't think it's anything to cause concern.
My VW always got it bad on the front wheels so I added dust covers inside the wheels years ago. If they did make them for the Volvo 18" wheels I don't think they would look good.
Still love the car.
Good luck.
I have to say, yet again, how excellent I think this forum is! The exchange of news and leaping over continents is a real bonus! thank you!
I've been waiting to take a picture of the car in the snow but we can't seem to get any! I know many people are happy about no snow but not me! Anyways, here is a horible shot of the C70 next to the Cabrio in the garage. After a day of cleaning and bringing the lawn tractor, push mower, broadcast spreader and wheel barrel to storage I was excited because it was the first time in years I could get two cars in the garage. I felt bad for the Cabrio spending so much time outside since the C70 came home. I try to be somewhat easy on the car seeing it has nearly 190,000 miles on it.
As for the C70, it's still great. I have a little rattle in the roof when it's really cold (big deal). Now that its winter and I'm wearing a coat the door handle isn't bothering me. I remember someone stating that the metal trim on the steering wheel is hot; well it's cold in the winter. Gloves were the simple fix.
We are going to be in London the 2nd week of July this year - we are going to a concert on the 8th. What is the weather like that time of year there?
For me it is the other way around. This morning on my way to work it is still dark and the LED is in what I would call "normal" mode.
Then during day light the LED is in "bright" mode and is really bright.
Cricket4 .... sounds like your car will be home soon and you can test!!!! Good news!
Must be wonderful to have YOUR car home again ...... and we await further news of some happy motoring! Well done on all counts! Don't let anyone else drive it this time!
They are posted on my space under dust on wheels album. If you cannot retrieve them, I will try to post them in this forum.

Another factor may be that "smart" front/rear brake proportioning (rather than a fixed proportioning) allows a somewhat higher percentage of total braking to be done from the rear under most conditions (albeit still less than 50%), instead of designing in a heavy front-brake bias for the worst-case situation when you are jamming on the brakes and the rear wheels are partially unweighted.
One other thought that occurs to me is the the dynamic stability program uses mild application of braking at the inside rear wheel of a turn, as you get somewhat close to handling limits. This probably doesn't account for much extra wear on the rear pads, but perhaps the overall effect of all of the above factors is that C70's will tend to wear out the rears faster than the fronts.
Maybe we'll have to wait for some of the earlier C70 owners to rack up enough miles to need brake pad replacements.
The main thing is that they remain safe. I have never had any squeaking from mine, probably because of keeping the dust off the pads as stated by Volvomax in a former post on this forum. I don't have but 3400 miles so have to wait and see how pads are wearing at my first scheduled check-up at 7500, which will probably be in June if nothing unexpected happens to them first.I will keep you informed if and when that happens.
Thanks to all for suggestions and Happy motoring. I still think it is a great car to own and fun to drive.
On November 15, with 300 miles on the odometer, I got a flat tire. Convinced it was a factory defect, I had my baby towed back to the dealer. Turns out I had run over a nail and since I had ridden on the tire for a little while before noticing, the tire could not be repaired. One tire (Michelin Pilot HX MXM4) was $250, installed, at the dealer. Ouch! I can't wait until I have to replace all four! I will be looking for posts in the future about what everyone thinks are ideal tires for 17" wheels for the C70. The Michelin's for their price, don't seem to be well rated by owners on tirerack.com.
Other than that little rookie misstep, the car has surpassed my expectations. I have over 3000 miles on the car now and still enjoy every time a turn the key. The top has been down a lot this mild winter. Here are my impressions:
The power is plenty for me. I have to be careful, 80 MPH seems like the comfortable cruise speed for me.
The Navigation System is pretty reliable and easy to program but the voice prompts drove me nuts. I now have the system on mute.
My wife sometimes drives the car and since there is a foot height difference between her and me (I am the tall one), the memorized settings are pretty handy. I understood the three programable positions, but by clicking the unlock button on the key, the seats go back to where that last driver had the seats set. For my 6'2" height, I feel like I have plenty of head and leg room.
I have two daughters (8 and almost 2). The 8 year old is self sufficient getting in and out in the driver side rear seat and loves to be in the car as much as I do. The little one is still in a car seat. It is a little cumbersome getting her in and out, but my long arms help. Also, I was not able to get the LATCH system to work when installing the seat. It might be the car seat itself or the stiffness of the leather, I just could not get the second clip to engage (would not reach the LATCH hook). I have the seat in pretty well with the belt, but would love that extra safety. From time to time around here they have car seat safety check-up events. I will see if an expert can do any better.
The Dynaudio is fantastic. I have an XM SkyFi2 plugged into the Aux port. I was hoping to get the wires for the antenna and power cord professionally tucked away vs. the quick and dirty way I did it. I have it vent mounted with the power connected to the plug in. Why only one power connection? If I want to charge my cell phone, I have to disconnect the XM. My SUV has three connections! Anyway, it is not much an issue since my battery life is pretty good on the phone.
The Bluetooth is okay. The voice recognition can be tricky sometimes. With the top down, don't even bother using Bluetooth. I plan to get a windblocker in the spring, that might help.
I am getting about 21 miles to the gallon. A little less than I had thought I would get. I am using regular gas (87 octane). After reading the posts on the board, I did not see a compeling reason to go with 89 or 93. I feel the power is fine for my needs.
Dust on the wheels is noticeable. Much more on my back wheels.
Other than at the dealer, I have not seen another C70 (2006 or 2007) on the road - EVER. It makes this car purchase really feel special. I did pull up to a ragtop C70 yesterday, but the driver did not take note of me (yes - I wanted her to be jealous :P )
There are some features I still don't understand and need to crack open the manual again, but all in due time.
Cheers!
Anyway ... weather here can be anything ..... last year it was baking hot at that time ...... but we could also be due for rain .. never can tell! Bring summer stuff ... but also a jacket and umbrella ... and you should be fine! My view is that now we all have convertibles ... it will rain!!!!

Should I have a second 12v socket in the front or back seats in my 2007 model? Per the manual, I may or may not have a socket in the trunk, which would not help my problem.
Good luck for next week - enjoy!
So I suspected the roof – maybe some part of the mechanism coming into contact during the opening/closing operation. I have to admit, I could not see anything close enough to have caused the indentation – but one never knows.
Anyway, the good news is that the indentation has been taken out and the repair really is invisible. I had asked that my dealer liaise with a franchised dent specialist – they don’t use grinders and fillers these days, just patient pressure from behind – and between them (Dealer and Specialist) they have been very successful. I’m now a proud C70 owner once again.
I hope your guys get your panel sorted Cricket4 – I’m still of the opinion that it’s caused internally, not by a wayward stone and, reading the body language, my Dealer has an open mind!
The wrap around speaker is actually a little rounded and a little raised. The NAV system sits down in it maybe an eighth of an inch. Again - it's very nice looking and the speaker is part of a system that can literally blow you out of your seat if that's what you want.
The only negative I've found with the NAV system is the CD ROM box that holds the GPS discs takes up 50% of the space of the glove compartment - but - it's got to go somewhere and there are other front compartments to use for storage of small items.
My own inspection of the roof when open (stowed in the trunk but elevated to the raised position) revealed a hexagonal headed bolt directly opposite the indentation on the inside of the panel stored directly above it, however, the indentation was definitely NOT hexagonal in profile, so, again, it's not conclusive.
But what I am pleased about was the fact that, despite all the intricacies of the roof mechanism, these guys got in there and sorted it - yesss!
No, Nav cannot be dealer installed.
All joking aside, our own adventure with this car began with finding the car! Volvo was indeed holding it hostage in Sweden at the plant. Not really sure of the reason, but I was told something about an update for the cars with the manual trans. I still wonder if they just forgot to ship it. Nevertheless, it left UK today (wave cucci and erisaman) and is en route to Canada to subseqently end up in Brunswick,GA on 1/31. That, of course, is barring the possibility that it may disappear in some type of Bermuda Triangle in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. If all goes well, we can take delivery Feb 2 or 3.
Now,with all the horrible weather you guys in the UK have had and cricket has had in the Midwest...we are certain that winter will come to the Mid Atlantic with the arrival of our beloved C70. Afterall, the government is manipulating our weather so we can't drive our convertibles all over the place all year round using endless amounts of fossil fuels.
I can't wait to tell all of you stories about sitting in the car in the garage, imagining the summer wind blowing in our hair like erisaman! Or how well the car performs in the wind and the rain and the sleet and the snow. For hopefully, we are all seeing the beauty of this car, that it is truly 2 cars in one. Nevertheless, I am certain that Agents Mulder and Scully have a file burried somewhere deep in their basement titled "Volvo C70."
Most importantly, remember, as our French corespondent/agent will tell us: "Trust No One!" because Volvo will always have plausible deniability.
Congrats jtrego - you have waited many moons for this motor, hopefully strong winds and ice storms are a thing of the past for you and your C70 will be in 'cruise control' all the way to Brunswick. Enjoy.
Have you checked it out with dealer about paint not having to cure on C70? My owners manual says on page 148 on 06 C70.
"We do not recommend washing your car in an automatic wash during the first six months(because the paint will not have hardened sufficiently)" That is quote word for word.
I did mine by hand for the seven months and then applied a coat of wax as the paint should have been cured by that time.
There is also a WARNING from Volvo in manual on page 149 that they do not recommend paint protection coatings that may claim to prevent fading, oxidation etc. They say that those coatings have NOT been tested by Volvo for compatibility with their clear coat and could cause it to soften, crack or cloud which may not be covered under your vehicle's paint warranty.
Hope this helps someone, however maybe the 2007 is different type of paint and clear coat. Happy Motoring if the weather ever clears up.
I have gone by their instructions as I have never owned a Volvo before and therefore will do as they say while under warranty.
Washing and cleaning the car
Washing the car
The following points should be kept in mind when washing and cleaning the car:
The car should be washed at regular intervals since dirt, dust, insects and tar spots adhere to the paint and may cause damage. To help prevent corrosion, it is particularly important to wash the car frequently in the wintertime.
Avoid washing your car in direct sunlight. Doing so may cause detergents and wax to dry out and become abrasive. To avoid scratching, use lukewarm water to soften the dirt before you wash with a soft sponge, and plenty of sudsy water.
Bird droppings: Remove from paintwork as soon as possible. Otherwise the finish may be permanently damaged.
A detergent can be used to facilitate the softening of dirt and oil.
A water-soluble grease solvent may be used in cases of sticky dirt. However, use a wash place equipped with a drainage separator.
Dry the car with a clean chamois and remember to clean the drain holes in the doors and rocker panels.
Tar spots can be removed with kerosene or tar remover after the car has been washed.
A stiff-bristle brush and lukewarm soapy water can be used to clean the wiper blades. Frequent cleaning improves visibility considerably.
Wash off the dirt from the underside (wheel housings, fenders, etc).
In areas of high industrial fallout, more frequent washing is recommended.
After cleaning the engine, the spark plug wells should be inspected for water and blown dry if necessary.
Look right above the CAUTION and you'll see:
Polishing and Waxing
Normally, polishing is not required during the first year after delivery, however, waxing may be beneficial.
Before applying polish or wax the vehicle must be washed and dried. Tar spots can be removed with kerosene or tar remover. Difficult spots may require a fine rubbing compound.
After polishing use liquid or paste wax.
Several commercially available products contain both polish and wax.
Waxing alone does not substitute for polishing a dull surface.
A wide range of polymer-based waxes can be purchased today. These waxes are easy to use and produce a long-lasting, high-gloss finish that protects the bodywork against oxidation, road dirt and fading.
Do not polish or wax your vehicle in direct sunlight (the surface of the vehicle should not be warmer than 113° F (45° C).
What they say to avoid is the stuff some dealers try to push on the buying public. I've heard of claims to last 5 years or more. With Zaino you'll have no problems. It's the only thing on my 99.
This may be a stupid question (it's never stopped me before) but where are the drain holes in the doors and rocker panels located? Anyone?
Also for drying, either micro fiber towels or 100% USA cotton towels, IMO, are better than chamois.
There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.
Good response - nice one!
On my '05 Abyss Blue TL, after the New England winters, I usually start with a couple of coats of Z5 and then start the Z2 (w/Z6 in between, of course!). Great stuff, smells good too! Someone at worked last week complemented me on my shiny new TL!
