Oh, I give quotes but not in writing. Since we have been the number one Honda dealer in nine states for 26 years, I guess this method must work.

Wrong on the flame wars. I'm pretty easy going.

I do understand the plusses. As suggested, I went to that other forum and have discovered that fuel is much more available in other parts of the country. Where I am, they are almost non-existant.

dcba - Give me a call or email, I can answer all your questions about the GX or any other Alt Fuel vehicle. The advice is free. Yes I own a CNG dealership but I don't even have a GX right now to even sell you. So don't worry I won't put a sales job on you. I would just hate it if you were put off the GX because of this experience, it is a good vehicle. I can't even get new ones but I can recommend where you can and how to get a deal on it. With gas heading to $4 per gallon CNG is definately the way to go.

To keep this somewhat relavent to the topic discussion. Those of you that have been watching my site for price updates have probably noticed it has not been updated in a while. I had computer issues and I'm back up and running again so send in those updates. This time around I will include the price and last updated date.

ok, i'm not sure why i'm even bothering to respond to this internet honda guy (and yes, you do seem like a trouble maker - YOU MAY NOT BE, but i'm the 2nd person to tell you this in 2 days, so perhaps you should assess how you are writing).

my justification for the GX -- i have a 40mi commute in the Bay Area, crossing 2 bridges in the process. with the GX, i get to use the carpool lane (this saves me about 1 hour roudtrip per day -- value to me at my salary ~$50). those 2 bridges at $4/each = $8 that i DON'T have to pay in the GX. my other car (a S2000) gets maybe 25mpg, at $3.70/gallon (premium), my GX consistently gets 40mpg at about $1.95.

    so, cost to drive my S2000/day = $19.84 + $50 time lost
cost to drive natty gas GX = $3.90

with about 4 CNG stations along my route, availability isn't a problem. oh, and by the way, the GX is the cleanest burning car on the planet!

there are all kinds of things i don't like ... what's the opposite of sporty? 250mi range, ect, ect ... but hands down, FOR ME, the GX is the ultimate commuter car! the S2000 fills in all the gaps the GX can't, so I feel pretty lucky to have the best of both worlds.

I'm not a troublemaker but some people automatically don't like me because of my username. I'm used to it so no problem.

You answered my question. I no longer live in California but I'm a native So. Californian and I did live and work in the Bay Area for four years and I remember the traffic.

I'm sure someone will jump in and correct me but the last time I checked there were only a couple of places in the entire Seattle/Puget Sound area that sold natural gas.

And, we can't use the carpool lanes like you can. I can see that would be a major plus for you.

We get zero interest in GX's but I can see why you bought yours.

    Thanks!

I wish I would have known about these cars a few years ago, I would have got mine sooner.
I drive about 620 miles a week, have a reliable 24/7 CNG station close to my home, so it was a no-brainer. For all the money I save on fuel, I can afford to rent a car if I want to drive out of state.
Until an affordable electric car is available that can make my 140 mile round trip commute, I will stick with my GX.

I just bought my 99 gx with 55k two weeks ago for $6999 with shipping from texas to the bay area. $7550 after taxes, not a problem with the independant dealer. Although I did have problems with E-loan, don't use them for auto loans.

Russ Darrow Honda is the worst dealership. Salesman told me the car was in Chicago at a holding yard and I would have it in 2 to 3 weeks, I gave them the $2000 deposit, now they can't seem to find 'my' car.... now they only have white available. Tom H does not return voice mail or email, lies and says he never receives them.

They know they are the only GX dealer in Wisconsin so I can't go anywhere else... besides they have $2000 of my money so what am I suppose to do?

When in doubt, go UP the chain of command. Write a letter to the manager, making sure to comment that you are going to forward your concerns to American Honda ... I've heard that dealerships do not like it when people complain to AH ... gives them a black eye. Be sure to be succinct, accurate, and professional.

    good luck,

4 weeks ago I got my new '07 Civic GX from the Honda dealer in Cerritos for $23,550 took about 15min to get down to this price.
I guess once the '08 are on the lot they stay with the sticker price again for a while.

I just purchased a Civic GX from Joe Marina Honda in Tulsa OK. It was close to sticker @ about $24,700. It was a simple experience no different than any other car purchase I have ever made. I drove in, made a trade deal and drove out. The car was in stock so there was no waiting. I would recommend them to anyone wanting any Honda - including the GX.

It seem a little high for a Civic, but it was not much more than the Hybrid I bought a couple of years ago, but with CNG at only 90.9 cents per gge,(and public fueling stations all around) it will run for less than half the cost of the Hybrid and Oklahoma has a separate $3,400 tax credit to go along with the Federal credit on this CNG vehicle.

I figured I could drive it 120,000 miles for less than 20 cents per mile even if I have no residual value at all. If it should happen to last for 200,000 .... well, it was more than I could say no to, I can't figure out why they weren't sold out through the end of next year!

I have a 2004 GX and a Phill unit. I am in the LA area. I love the car, but I'm moving home to Atlantic Canada with no natural gas. The car has 90,000 miles on it, almost all commuting (100 miles per day round trip).

I don't really know how much to ask for it, or where to sell. I can sell it any time in the next two months. Should I use Auto Trader, or eBay, or somewhere else? How hard are they to sell? I do not see many for sale, which is why I'm not sure what it should go for. Any help would be appreciated.

Put the car on Craigslist , in the Salt Lake City edition. CNG is state subsidized in utah and is 73 cents /gge at public stations. price the car about the same as a gasoline civic lx. they are in demand in utah and colorado because of the low fuel cost. Make the buyer pick up and pay in local funds. Or maybe murphy at CNGMOTORS.COM will consign it. He sells a lot of used gx. Give him a call.

    Put the Phill on e-Bay.

You can also post both on the CNGCHAT.COM forum in the marketplace section.

    Good luck with the move.

Would you be willing to sell the Phil unit separately? I have an 05.

    Thanks,

    Matt

I sold the Civic this morning to a guy from Utah WITHOUT the Phill.

That means that I do have the Phill for sale. They are $3200 new (plus tax), plus the total rip-off installation charge of at least $1200! I had one guy at my house for 90 minutes, and he was not working hard, and I paid $1200. Used, you can install yourself or pay someone a LOT less. If you switch to the blended rate from SoCal, gas is about $1.30 per gallon.

My unit has 2000 hours it. It is working perfectly. I am going to leave it installed until it is sold so people can see it working.

I'm thinking $2,000 for the unit - what do you think? They run for 6,000 before requiring a rebuild, and can be rebuilt 3 times, so there are still 22,000 out of 24,000 hours of life left.

I really liked the Phill. I got better range, I saved a lot of time, and I cut my fuel bills in half. I'd have to say that the time saving and convenience were more important to me than the money though.

I would be be a buyer at that price. If you put it on craigslist Los Angeles, I WILL CALL with cash in hand. J.L.
  • 2cdneh2cdneh Member Posts: 3
I guess you haven't tried searching LA Craigslist for "Phill" yet.
  • mattqmattq Member Posts: 3
I responded via the craiglist email about the phill. Are you still willing to sell your phill to me?
  • lakewood90712lakewood90712 Member Posts: 108
Sorry Matt. I got to it first. J. L.
  • mattqmattq Member Posts: 3
Glad you were able to get a great deal on the Phill unit J.L..

I live in Cerritos, can I come over sometime to get the good rate for an overnite Phill when you get it set up. : )

I have been reading a lot of your helpful posts on this forum about filling up around the Long Beach area. I normally use the facility on Mulberry in SFS (near my work) but the price is $2.64. I have been also using the one in the Gas Co on Rosemead in Pico but today it was $2.45. Neither seem to give me a complete fill (only around 3200 psi at best)

Where around us do you get the best fill and value?

    Thanks,

    Matt

Matt: I usually get fuel at C.E. in Carson or downtown L.A.

High pressure, high reliability and high price. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Very rare for a C.E. station to be inoperative or have low pressure.

Sign up on CNGCHAT.COM and send a pm. I will let you know when I get it hooked up and running.

I paid $24,500 for my 2008 Civic GX at Scott Robinson Honda of Torrance. I called all 14-15 Honda dealers in So Cal that carried the Civic GX and all exept Scott Robinson insisted they wanted the full MSRP of $25,225 and would not budge. Naturally, given a choice, a chose to pay less. I am very happy with the '08 Civic GX...and it looks like between the federal tax credit of $4000 and the CA driving alternatives rebate of $3000 (they're out of money now), the price is about what a regular Civic would have cost. :)

I recently bought a used gx in Utah and it will not pass emissions. We decided to probably buy a new one when we go out to the SF bay area in August. Looking at the Honda site it ways they are in stock at certain dealers. Those of you who have bought the 2008, are they in stock (where), and how much have you paid?
  • ikirikir Member Posts: 11
I purchased my 2007 GX in Aug 2007. I tried about 5 dealers in the Bay Area and received the best customer service from Manly Honda in Santa Rosa. The dealer is about an hour away from me but they gave me the best deal. I also go to them for all of my maintenance checks. it's worth the drive.
  • momknowsbestmomknowsbest Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the reply. After getting no response from 4 dealers out there, a "sorry but we are sold out and we don't know when we are getting any in" from another, and a quote $4,000 over MSRP from another, we decided to get the old one worked on and it passed emissions. Meanwhile, Utah now has a dealer that has begun to sell the GXs here and we are on the waiting list for another GX in Feb to April of '09. I'll make a note of Santa Rosa though just in case something happens while we are out there and we need the car worked on. Thanks again!

if you're making a list, put mel rapton sacramento and lodi honda on there as well. both were able to give me $1k under sticker. sacramento has a GX specialist (can't put HER name down here), and the person to talk to at lodi is the internet sales manager.

What would be the ~value of a 2007 GX with low miles?

Any ideas... I am new to CNG and clueless on prices. I assume that prices have come down since last summer as gasoline is now cheaper again.

Anything I should know about the differences between an '07 and an '09??
  • hondagxsaleshondagxsales Member Posts: 33
The difference between the 07 and the 09 is cosmetic. Slight change to the grill and lower facia, as well as a chrome strip over the lic plate area. As far as value...
The market has definitely softened due to gas prices tanking and energy speclators going bankrupt.

You can book it out a www.kbb.com, however Kelly Blue Book is merely a guide and hasn't been able to keep up with the depressed auto market every since last summer. Other factors (which you omitted) are where in the country you are, Where the buyer lives can also be a factor, actual miles on the car, have you added equipment that may raise the book value, etc. Some states offer incentives on used dedicated vehicles (Utah and possibly others) if it hasn't been claimed there prior. Other states don't.

Try locating similar vehicles on EBay and Craigs List to see what they're selling for, and prices that aren't drawing buyers. You might be better off driving it until gasprices return to norms that people want to escape. We're headed back to $3 before long... OPEC will see to it. Might be a more receptive market then.
    Best of luck, Curtis

just bought it at 17700 OTD price (includes 3% tax, 74 tag fee)

I have option of either 17200 for LX and 17700 for LXS.

got lots of useful information from here.
  • hihostevohihostevo Member Posts: 59
Thank you Curtis for your reply..... I had looked up the value in KBB, but Kelly has not been real "accurate" the last few years... they seem to constantly over-estimate the value of at least those cars I have tried to buy or sell.

Edmunds interestingly enough does not even list the GX variant of the Civic.

The car only has about 17,000 miles on it and was supposedly traded back in on an '09. All of the "incentives" have already been used and it is completely stock.

As I am completely new to the CNG world I have been trying to educate myself. I was quite surprised at how quickly the car responds in city driving (seems much quicker than my Element that has a larger engine), but it does lag a bit when trying to merge onto the freeway. I wonder if Honda has adjusted the gearing of the first 3 gears to make the car very quick and agile for city driving... which is what I would assume most GX's are used for.

I purchased a Prius last year (luckily before the gas prices started going nuts) and it was certainly appreciated last summer. I have been looking at the pros and cons of the GX and what its operational costs would be compared to the Prius. Of course any numbers I can use are just speculation... if I had a crystal ball it would be an easier decision to make... but then if I had a crystal ball my 401K would not now be a 201K !!!!

At the current price of gas the Prius only costs about $5 per month more to operate than the GX would... which is certainly a reasonable amount given it additional utility and ease of fueling. If gas goes back to 3 or 4 dollars a gallon... (which I would have thought likely until this world-wide recession kicked in... now I am not as sure as to how quickly the prices will rise again) then the cost benefits rise rapidly as well. I am sure those of you with GX's were quite happy with your decision last summer :)

In answer to your question I live part-time in Las Vegas and part-time in Northern Utah. As Utah has much cheaper natural gas than Las Vegas it would seem logical to base the car in Utah... however the Las Vegas climate would seem to be a better match... I do wonder how it would fare during the snowy winter months. We have been spoiled with AWD Element and Pilot up in Utah and so have a bit of concern about the GX..., but many people here do drive FWD vehicles also... but the preponderance seem to favor 4wd or AWD.

Sorry to be rambling on so... I guess I am just musing out loud.

Any comments or experiences are appreciated!

.... the reason I am looking is my wife thinks it is about time I sell my 22-year old diesel station wagon.... :-)

2010's are going for $300 below invoice and 0.9% financing. The 2011's just came out but dont get the same financing/price deal (no change in 2011)

Looking for one in the SF Bay Area. Any ideas of dealers who have inventory? Honda's website is less than helpful.
  • hondagxsaleshondagxsales Member Posts: 33
I know Robertson's Honda in Palmdale has a couple. A ways out of your way, but well worth the trip if you want to deal with someone that really knows everything about the car, incentives, infrastructure and can answer any question you might have. I j=know their alt fuels guy is out till the weekend, so if you don't have any luck up there... it's not a bad drive and can easily be done in a GX on the 101, 5, or 99 fwys.

In SoCal car dealer ad., there has some NEW civic GX for sell at $21,500.
Have any idea of reasonable prices? (2014 cars are coming out now, they still have 2012 cars)
