Wrong on the flame wars. I'm pretty easy going.
I do understand the plusses. As suggested, I went to that other forum and have discovered that fuel is much more available in other parts of the country. Where I am, they are almost non-existant.
To keep this somewhat relavent to the topic discussion. Those of you that have been watching my site for price updates have probably noticed it has not been updated in a while. I had computer issues and I'm back up and running again so send in those updates. This time around I will include the price and last updated date.

my justification for the GX -- i have a 40mi commute in the Bay Area, crossing 2 bridges in the process. with the GX, i get to use the carpool lane (this saves me about 1 hour roudtrip per day -- value to me at my salary ~$50). those 2 bridges at $4/each = $8 that i DON'T have to pay in the GX. my other car (a S2000) gets maybe 25mpg, at $3.70/gallon (premium), my GX consistently gets 40mpg at about $1.95.
so, cost to drive my S2000/day = $19.84 + $50 time lost
cost to drive natty gas GX = $3.90
with about 4 CNG stations along my route, availability isn't a problem. oh, and by the way, the GX is the cleanest burning car on the planet!
there are all kinds of things i don't like ... what's the opposite of sporty? 250mi range, ect, ect ... but hands down, FOR ME, the GX is the ultimate commuter car! the S2000 fills in all the gaps the GX can't, so I feel pretty lucky to have the best of both worlds.

You answered my question. I no longer live in California but I'm a native So. Californian and I did live and work in the Bay Area for four years and I remember the traffic.
I'm sure someone will jump in and correct me but the last time I checked there were only a couple of places in the entire Seattle/Puget Sound area that sold natural gas.
And, we can't use the carpool lanes like you can. I can see that would be a major plus for you.
We get zero interest in GX's but I can see why you bought yours.
Thanks!
I drive about 620 miles a week, have a reliable 24/7 CNG station close to my home, so it was a no-brainer. For all the money I save on fuel, I can afford to rent a car if I want to drive out of state.
Until an affordable electric car is available that can make my 140 mile round trip commute, I will stick with my GX.

They know they are the only GX dealer in Wisconsin so I can't go anywhere else... besides they have $2000 of my money so what am I suppose to do?
good luck,

I guess once the '08 are on the lot they stay with the sticker price again for a while.
It seem a little high for a Civic, but it was not much more than the Hybrid I bought a couple of years ago, but with CNG at only 90.9 cents per gge,(and public fueling stations all around) it will run for less than half the cost of the Hybrid and Oklahoma has a separate $3,400 tax credit to go along with the Federal credit on this CNG vehicle.
I figured I could drive it 120,000 miles for less than 20 cents per mile even if I have no residual value at all. If it should happen to last for 200,000 .... well, it was more than I could say no to, I can't figure out why they weren't sold out through the end of next year!
I don't really know how much to ask for it, or where to sell. I can sell it any time in the next two months. Should I use Auto Trader, or eBay, or somewhere else? How hard are they to sell? I do not see many for sale, which is why I'm not sure what it should go for. Any help would be appreciated.
Put the Phill on e-Bay.
You can also post both on the CNGCHAT.COM forum in the marketplace section.
Good luck with the move.
Thanks,
Matt
That means that I do have the Phill for sale. They are $3200 new (plus tax), plus the total rip-off installation charge of at least $1200! I had one guy at my house for 90 minutes, and he was not working hard, and I paid $1200. Used, you can install yourself or pay someone a LOT less. If you switch to the blended rate from SoCal, gas is about $1.30 per gallon.
My unit has 2000 hours it. It is working perfectly. I am going to leave it installed until it is sold so people can see it working.
I'm thinking $2,000 for the unit - what do you think? They run for 6,000 before requiring a rebuild, and can be rebuilt 3 times, so there are still 22,000 out of 24,000 hours of life left.
I really liked the Phill. I got better range, I saved a lot of time, and I cut my fuel bills in half. I'd have to say that the time saving and convenience were more important to me than the money though.
I live in Cerritos, can I come over sometime to get the good rate for an overnite Phill when you get it set up. : )
I have been reading a lot of your helpful posts on this forum about filling up around the Long Beach area. I normally use the facility on Mulberry in SFS (near my work) but the price is $2.64. I have been also using the one in the Gas Co on Rosemead in Pico but today it was $2.45. Neither seem to give me a complete fill (only around 3200 psi at best)
Where around us do you get the best fill and value?
Thanks,
Matt
High pressure, high reliability and high price. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
Very rare for a C.E. station to be inoperative or have low pressure.
Sign up on CNGCHAT.COM and send a pm. I will let you know when I get it hooked up and running.

Any ideas... I am new to CNG and clueless on prices. I assume that prices have come down since last summer as gasoline is now cheaper again.
Anything I should know about the differences between an '07 and an '09??
The market has definitely softened due to gas prices tanking and energy speclators going bankrupt.
You can book it out a www.kbb.com, however Kelly Blue Book is merely a guide and hasn't been able to keep up with the depressed auto market every since last summer. Other factors (which you omitted) are where in the country you are, Where the buyer lives can also be a factor, actual miles on the car, have you added equipment that may raise the book value, etc. Some states offer incentives on used dedicated vehicles (Utah and possibly others) if it hasn't been claimed there prior. Other states don't.
Try locating similar vehicles on EBay and Craigs List to see what they're selling for, and prices that aren't drawing buyers. You might be better off driving it until gasprices return to norms that people want to escape. We're headed back to $3 before long... OPEC will see to it. Might be a more receptive market then.
Best of luck, Curtis
I have option of either 17200 for LX and 17700 for LXS.
got lots of useful information from here.
Edmunds interestingly enough does not even list the GX variant of the Civic.
The car only has about 17,000 miles on it and was supposedly traded back in on an '09. All of the "incentives" have already been used and it is completely stock.
As I am completely new to the CNG world I have been trying to educate myself. I was quite surprised at how quickly the car responds in city driving (seems much quicker than my Element that has a larger engine), but it does lag a bit when trying to merge onto the freeway. I wonder if Honda has adjusted the gearing of the first 3 gears to make the car very quick and agile for city driving... which is what I would assume most GX's are used for.
I purchased a Prius last year (luckily before the gas prices started going nuts) and it was certainly appreciated last summer. I have been looking at the pros and cons of the GX and what its operational costs would be compared to the Prius. Of course any numbers I can use are just speculation... if I had a crystal ball it would be an easier decision to make... but then if I had a crystal ball my 401K would not now be a 201K !!!!
At the current price of gas the Prius only costs about $5 per month more to operate than the GX would... which is certainly a reasonable amount given it additional utility and ease of fueling. If gas goes back to 3 or 4 dollars a gallon... (which I would have thought likely until this world-wide recession kicked in... now I am not as sure as to how quickly the prices will rise again) then the cost benefits rise rapidly as well. I am sure those of you with GX's were quite happy with your decision last summer
In answer to your question I live part-time in Las Vegas and part-time in Northern Utah. As Utah has much cheaper natural gas than Las Vegas it would seem logical to base the car in Utah... however the Las Vegas climate would seem to be a better match... I do wonder how it would fare during the snowy winter months. We have been spoiled with AWD Element and Pilot up in Utah and so have a bit of concern about the GX..., but many people here do drive FWD vehicles also... but the preponderance seem to favor 4wd or AWD.
Sorry to be rambling on so... I guess I am just musing out loud.
Any comments or experiences are appreciated!
.... the reason I am looking is my wife thinks it is about time I sell my 22-year old diesel station wagon.... :-)
Have any idea of reasonable prices? (2014 cars are coming out now, they still have 2012 cars)
