Audi A4 washer system problem

I just bought a used 2002 A4 Avant 3.0 and experienced a problem in the first 3 days. The windshield and rear window wipers work, but the headlight washers do not. also, no washer fluid is sprayed from either the windshield or rear window jets. Finally, I don't hear the washer motor when I pull back on the spray control. Has anyone experienced and rectified a similar problem. I'm hoping I don't have to replace the washer motor.

I do not have a fix - but exactly the same problem. A 2002 A4 1.8T from new. I just took to a non-dealer garage, and they cannot find fault. They replaced fuse (apparently not the one that operates the washer jets) and the motor worked for one second and then nothing. Audi's diagnostic is $100 starters. If you have any news I would love to heat it :)

I just had this problem fixed in my '98 A4 2.8, which I have owned since new. My independent mechanic (Audi specialist) sees this all the time--the problem is a cracked pump for the headlamp washer, likely due to frozen washer fluid. I could see the problem when the car was on the lift. The part is cheap--about $40--but it took them most of an hour to replace--it is a bear to get to. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Please confirm that when this occured, there was no activity when the washer lever was activated. I previously removed the wheel arch lining, and did not see a cracked pump. Could you be specific which pump was damaged on your vehicle. There would appear to be two on on the main water tank - I don't know if there are additional ones closer to the heated pop-up washer jets?

... related to the little lids on the bumpers freezing shut. When you attempt to activate the washers the system can fry itself trying to open the little pop up lids. I'm guessing that it's the pump motor that bites the dust.

Once fixed, try and make sure that the there's no ice build up on the lids and see if that prevents a reoccurrence.

I just had the same problem and it is your washer jet motor. There are two. One for the windshield and one for the headlights. Order online or an autozone as those are the most inexpensive i found. You will need a tech manual to install.
