While trying to fix my a/c proglem similar to one listed in #27 -- except mines an 87 Cherokee with inline 6. Had a leak in the vacuum hose, but since I just rebuilt the engine, I'd like to check that I hooked everything up right. Anyway, if someone has the vacuum diagram for an 87 inline 6, please post.

My 2000 Grand Cherokee Larado just blows warm air. I recently had the water pump, serpentine belt and thermostat replaced beacause the car was running hot. Since then when I turn on the ac the compressor turns on for 5-10 seconds then turns off for 5-10 seconds continuously. I hooked up a gauge and the needle is going up from the green to the blue before the compressor shuts off and recycles. Anyone have any ideas...

is electric fan comeing on when you turn on ac
  • printerfixerprinterfixer Member Posts: 3
If you mean the blower fan yes it blows ok, if you mean the radiator fan, I think it's a clutch driven fan it runs ok whether the ac is on or off..
  • tuggajbtuggajb Member Posts: 646
there is a electric fan between the fan on the engine and the radrior have to looj hard to see it find it with the engine off use flash light hard to see but is in there

If you haven't figured it out already I have some help for you. Your squeeling is a common problem among any vehicle and there is nothing I hate more than waking up to someone's loud car. First off, determine which part is squeeling. Open the hood one morning while it's making the noise and stick your ear down there; watch out for moving parts. If that doesn't work take a long screwdriver and place it on all the components that are belt driven and feel for vibrations in the handle. Your squeel is due to a dried up bearing and when bearings go bad they can make all kinds of strange noises that can go and come whenever they want. Chances are if it's temperature related and the noise goes away once the vehicle warms up it's probably your water pump. The coolant tends to heat those bearings up well which would make the noise lessen or even go away for awhile. Hope this helps. Don't forget to pick up a Hayne's manual for complete instructions on repair and rebuild. :shades:

If someone could please help me figure something out i would appreciate it. Just bought a used 1997 grand jeep cherokee laredo tsi 4.0 6 cylinder. what does tsi mean and it seems silly to ask, does it come with air conditioning since mine doesn't work right now?
  • tuggajbtuggajb Member Posts: 646

there is a door above your fan that swings back and forth to regulate wheather the airecirculates or is fresh. it has broken off and is lying on top of your fan outlet. reach up above the fan (while the car is off) stick your fingers in the plactic grate there towards the fan. You will probably feel the door lying there. If you lift the door up out of the way it will temp fix your problem. You will probably have to use a coat hanger or such to get it lifted out of the way. Otherwise, it's off with the dash. It could be worse... belive me... my passenger heat doesn't work... the fix is PAINFULL.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand cherokee it has dual climate contols for the driver side and for the passenger side The pasenger side never changes, you can turn the climate control knob up or down and it all ways remains the same.

My wife purchased a 2007 Grand Cherokee in July and complains of exactly the same thing. Air is cold only when on coldest setting, but back it off by a single click of the temperature dial and the air temp is significantly less cold. It's full-cold or not-at-all-cold - no in-between. I recently read that Chrysler put out a service bulletin for the Commander for as similar problem wherein they reflash the computer. In that case though it was probably auto climate control and our Jeep has manual temperature controls. Do you or anyone else know of any updated information. Please let me know how we can help get this resolved. Thanks

To bjdm3 - Thx for your input. Please open a case to Chrysler's Customer Care Center - numbers count. You can reference my case #, which is mentioned in some earlier posts.

Hi to all! I'm new here so be nice!
    I have a 94 & a 98 Cherokee.
Engine heat is all proper but seems that the heater does not put out HOT on high, just warm. Blend door is closing all the way, Any ideas? or do Cherokees have mediocre heaters?
  • tsfromtxtsfromtx Member Posts: 7
Cherokeepeople - I had a '96 Cherokee for 11 years, and it had a great heater. Do you have a standard thermostat? I believe that is 195 degrees.

Pretty sure the blower motor is shot. Has worked off and on for over a year, and no longer works at all. Is getting 12 volts at connector. Hooking up motor to battery does not work.

Can I replace the blower motor without having to drain the A/C system? Is it as simple as removing the 3 screws, and pulling the motor?

    Thanks.
  • tuggajbtuggajb Member Posts: 646
    you got it

Here's some info. I get no heat from any vents at any time. There's plenty of air coming thru and I can move it from floor, to dash, to defrost, but never get any heat on driver or passenger side. Recirc seems to work (the vent by the wipers pulls air when the recirc is off).

What's the problem? Air Blend Door Accutator? A heater control sensor?

Will the "heatertreater" on ebay work? Cutting a hole in the plastic once removing the glove compartment to access the air blend door? Do I have to remove the entire dash?

Help, it's getting cold and people are starting to whine.

Before you start cutting things up and modifying your system make sure your source of heat is working. With your engine warmed up make sure you are getting hot coolant flow through your heater core. You can tell if you are by setting your heat controls to the warmest setting and them feeling the two heater hoses going into and out of the firewall. Be careful as one or both of these hoses may be very hot. Both hoses should be hot if you have good flow, but if not look for a stuck flow valve or a kink in one of the hoses. I also am assuming that the heat did work before. If this is a new vehicle for you check to be sure both heater hoses are connected, sometimes people that get a leak on a heater hose just loop it to fix the leak if they do not need the heat.

I reported before that I disconnect my batter and reconnected it and the I was able to get heat on both sides of my jgc limited with zone air control. Later I only received heat on drivers side and cold on passenger side. This a.m. I again disconnected the neg term then the poss term. Waited about ten minutes then connected the neg and then the possitive and again I got warm air from both sides. I talked to a jeep mech who no longer works for jeep and he said it was prob. a prob. with the gears that operate 3 doors. Why does disconnecting and reconnecting the battery seem to solve the problem short term. Other who have reported the same problem and have not had it repair would you please try the same thing to see if that changes anything for you and report back to me robt.morris@sbcglobal.net. Thanks, Bob

This may fix it only temporaly and I would be interested in your results. Try discounting the neg neb terminal on your battery, then the positive. Leave it that way for about 10-15 minutes. Then hook up the neg and then the positive. See if that changes anything. It may reset the system. It may only work until you shut thew car off again and then you right back to where you started. Let me know what happens.

Man these Jeep GC 2003 really suck. One year ago had to have a major fix, not compressor but something major, then this door thing, now the condensing coil is leaking and needs replaced. This is my last Jeep or Chrysler product. I won't even talk about the problems with a Plymouth Grand Voyager. I got rid of that before the warranty ran out. I just did not learn from that experience. It is Toyota Highland here I come.

The Jeep GC Ltd. I just posted about only had 2457 hours on it when you convert the miles to hours of use. An average person working a 40 week with 2 weeks off only works 2080 hours. Can you imagine a pc of machinery in a Chrysler plant only lasting 1 year.......say a converyor, a bearing, a drive sytem, some hydraulic system. They would get rid of that supplier so fast it would make your head swim. Plus if it did fail they would want the manufacture of that sytem to pay them lost production time and on an on and on. I guess the big boys have clout and us little guys only have forums to complain to. You can bet they don't read this stuff.

Apparently its a common fault on Jeeps - a/c unit packs up after @ 3 to 5 years - condensor or similar - complete removal & renewal cost @ £1200 in UK. Waste of time just getting gas top ups - when the problem is a failed / failing unit.

Had mine replaced at 5 years old - talking to an a/c specialist - told me to run the a/c every week without fail - summer / winter for at least 20 minutes. Seems the gas lubricates the system & if its not run frequently - the seals fail - lose gas etc. - units overheat and fail full stop. Regassing lasts for a few weeks then gone again etc.

Nowhere have I seen anything on this requirement to run for min 20 minutes per week - but I've done just that for the last 3 years and not even had to regas

I have the same problem with mine 2000 Cherokee Limited. Have you found an answer to your issue? If so, let me know and I'll do the same.
  • rw2352ajrw2352aj Member Posts: 16
I am having the door thing fixed where they have to remove the dash, having brakes all the way around except no new rotors on the back, the condensing coil replaced and so I am going to hold of on the drivers side heated seat. I will ask my mech. if he has any idea other than the element in the seat. Seems to me elements which are not used that much would not normally fail. I was thing about a short or broken wire going to the element or somehting is unplugged. Prob. just wishful thinking. I will let you know what he says. Stay tuned.

Just replaced my heater/ac blend doors using the heater treater kit available on ebay. It works very well and took one hour to install. My passenger side plastic door was broken (failure code 56 ) . The replacement is stainless steel and installs without pulling the dash apart. Just follow the directions carefully....and you get heat again for $130.
  • fixit5fixit5 Member Posts: 2
go to ebay and buy the Heater Treater repair kit...it works well ,costs $130 , and you do not have to pull the dash.
  • rw2352ajrw2352aj Member Posts: 16
How did you find these replacement doors on Ebay? What did you ask for? I will pick my 2003 up tomorrow after having an independent garage repair mine but it sound like it will happen again before I get rid of this junker. RWM

here's my dilemma, when i disconnected the negative battery cable and reconnected it, i got heat! Well, at least until i turned the car off, then the heat went out again. With this in mind, it doesn't seem like it could be the doors, because how could disconnecting the battery and reconnecting "fix" a broken door part?

    Any thoughts?

    thanks,

    Mike

    Hello all,
I am new to this list and I have a '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with automatic climate control. The blower motor is working intermittently. When it does work all modes on the directional control work just fine and do what they are supposed to do, so I'm thinking control module or something similar. I put direct power to the motor and it spins happily with no abnormal noise. So the question is this: is there a blower motor control module and where would it be located? Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey i just repaced mine 2002 GC blen doors with same kit, took me 36 minutes to fix what has been broken for 2 years , I had never seen a kit with such ease of follow instructions Great kit
  • wlanierwlanier Member Posts: 4
where did you get your kit and how hard was it to install??? Thanks Walt
  • hal12hal12 Member Posts: 1
Code 52,54,56 Will the heater/ac blend doors fix problem ( heater treater kit) available on ebay. Work for these codes ,Everyone is saying it takes one hour to install.

Does anyone have the directions to install to preview before ordering from e-bay .

    (Looks appx cost $130 )
  • lgmigoyalgmigoya Member Posts: 3
the kit on e-bay is very easy to install, you need phillips head screw driver, pliers, a deremel rotary tool and the rest comes on the box, It took me less tha half hour to instal (effective time), it is a bit unconfortable psoition to work, but if you take a couple off 10 minutes of every now and then is fairly simple an the kit work fine. the instructions are extreamly well detailed. go for it..

I purchased my 01 Jeep Grand Cherokee in Indiana, in April 2007 and now I live in Arizona. I drove the are out this summer and everything worked fine, except the heat,... well I figured I live in Phoenix, AZ, so no big deal. Well after I got here the AC went out and I went absolutely crazy, it can get around 115 out here. I suffered all summer with no AC. :lemon: Well I got an estimate from the dealership now since I am ready to make the repairs and they are quoting me 1450 because coolant is leaking, I need a heater core, AC wiring blower resistor module, and they told me it is dangerous to drive. I am so NERVOUS about driving. My windshield is getting all steamed up and the blower doesnt work,. Until I get in the shop at the end of the month will I just need to keep adding engine coolant? to make sure that the engine does not lock up, and keep the vents off, or just say save my money and get another car? Please help I appreciate all responses :(

I went to erase the price becuase it was wrong and hit the wrong button. The price was $1,099.??. I was more than happy. I am also from Indiana and have purchased my last Jeep. This spring I am going to buy a Toyota Highland. I drove one the other day and what a delight. My best luck has been with Toyotas (Camry's and Avalon's. Owned 5 and I don't know why I switched. My 2000 Avolon I purchased new in late 1999 has 46,000 miles and have only done oil changes etc plus a new set of Mich. tires about 4 weeks ago. Used the brand new full size spare and purchased 3 more. I love that car. Has power to jet forward, quite, smooth and as much room as a Mercury Grand Marquee. More room than a Caddy CTS. Sorry to have to buy foreign but the Jeep is Germany so what is the diff. The Japanese just have it together. Indy Bob

Thanks Indy Bob for your advice, Thanks for pointing me in the diretion of toyota. I will be so glad to get rid of my Jeep Problems . The repairs are just too expensive to put in that old of a car with more and more problems surfacing. Bye Bye Jeep, No more :lemon: for me

Let me sound off some more because it feels so good.

All, I mean all, dealers are nothing but "screw you shops". I had a Jeep dealer tell me I needed $350 worth of brakes all around including rotors in front. Over 10,000 miles later I asked my independent mechanic to check my brakes. I had new tires put on just before this and looked at the front pads and the tire man and my observation agree I was getting close on brakes. When I had my independent mech look at them he said yes I should have new brakes.

Why did my Jeep dealer tell me over 10,000 miles before this point in time I needed new brakes. If you bought new brakes every 40,000 miles I went 25% over the time they told me I needed new brakes before I had them put on.

Why doesn't the dealer tell you about the repair kit for the Heat/AC that is avail. where you don't have to remove the dash, steering wheel, center console,
antifreeze, etc. They are money mongels and they simply screw you. If I had the money to buy a dealership I would prove to the world, (if I wanted to screw the customer) that I could sell cars at my absolute cost, I mean REAL cost, and make a good living on the repair and maint. side of the business. Indianapolis, Bob

I have a 2001 JGC, and the ac and heater does not work at all. it just all the sudden one afternoon, decided to stop working. I had a friend look at it, and he said the blower motor needed to be replaced...so i purchased one, and he installed it, but that did not fix the problem. He said something about it could be the blower motor resister, but i wanted to ask advice on here before i go and spend more money on a potentially useless part. The ac and heater both completley dont work...you hear and feel absolutley nothing when you turn it on. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
  • tuggajbtuggajb Member Posts: 646
    prob the resistor or fuse
i would check the fuse first then the resistor is by pass feet held in by two scrues
  • esaechaoesaechao Member Posts: 1
when i turn on my heater, the passenger side two vents only pushes out cold air? Will you please explain to me what you think the problem may be. Fuse maybe? The thing is i just had the the heater core changed out maybe the mechanic might have done something wrong to cause that little problem.
