I live in NJ - have 6,000 miles and am the proud owner of my 3rd transmission (no typos....6K and 3rd trans). The last time I brought it in, the dealership told me the Nissan engineer was there and took it on the test drive and they couldn't hear the noise - "everything they heard was normal'. Later that day, after the Nissan engineer left, I took the Service Director and the Tech for a ride, they both heard it, callled the Nissan Tech line and replaced the trans for the 3rd time. Everyone that has had this issue needs to call and log their complaint at Nissan Consumer /affairs
    Nissan
    Consumer Affairs
    P.O. Box 685003
    Franklin TN 37068-5003
    (800) NISSAN-1 (or 800-647-7261)
    8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.,
Eastern / Central Time / Pacific Time
    Monday through Friday "

Once all complaints are logged, let the class action suit or recall begin (I'm not an attorney, but would gladly support such a cause). We all deserve new vehicles and compensation for the time and frustrations we have experienced.....of course, Nissan knows about this issue and are ignoring it!!!

Moreroguerage, it's funny to see you post the address to Nissan because I didn't really think about the fact that I work in the building RIGHT NEXT DOOR to their corporate office here in Franklin, TN. If this new trans next week doesn't fix my problem, I might just walk over there in person.
  • morerogueragemoreroguerage Member Posts: 7
Walking next door is all fine and good, but the only way we are all going to get anywhere is to get this crap documented - on our end and on Nissans. If you file a complaint, they need to open a case and log it. Make sure you keep the case number. When/if Nissan is asked to produce the list of complaints related to this issue...there should be hundreds, if not thousands.

Oh People, I am so sorry that you have also bought a product that is NO GOOD! I would like to tell you that someone from Nissan will help you, BUT the only help you will get is from one person to another, you know the blame game. Our Family also purchased a 2008 Rogue loved everything about it EXCEPT the growl and the uncertainty if the transmission was going to come out of it. You could go down the road and it would just gear down for NO reason, it would jerk and grind. We kept carrying it back, and we had the transmission replaced twice. It became a safety issue for our family knowing there was no fix and Nissan had no concern, the dealer nor the company. We tried doing everything by the book filling a complaint with the company, all that was, just playing phone tag with someone that really did not even care and talked like a politician. Again trying do the right thing we called the BBB(North Carolina) and filled a complaint Nissan called within 2 hours after the complaint we requested the vehicle to be a buy back, all they wanted to do is give a 1000,000 mile warranty; well, this might be OK if they knew they had a fix, we declined the offer. Next the offer was to make a few payments on our account, that was not an option, the vehicle was paid for. Finally a call came in on Friday to tell us that Nissan was not going to buy back the JUNK (THEY didn't even want ther own JUNK).
I WAS EXCITED TO INFORM THE REP. FOR NISSAN,THAT THE LORD HAD ALLOWED MY FAMILY TO TRADE THE ROGUE FOR A FORD EDGE .
I also explained that he might want to find him a new job before he gets laid off because a company that can not help out there customers sure want be in business long.

I suggest to each of you with this problem start making copies of all the blogs you read with the problems you have and when you call BBB they will want to see these along with all the bills you might have for any repairs YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING'S DOCUMENTED!!

I think Nissan is getting there dealership to side with them in saying there really is no problem, our dealership said it's ONLY audible, I said it wasn't audible when I purchased it and shouldn't be audible now.

I Love My Edge it is more roomy and more reliable, this is the vehicle I wanted first but the Rogue had a lot to offer for the money, (I did not know I would be buying a clearnce vehicle with so much trouble and no company backing).
  • morerogueragemoreroguerage Member Posts: 7
How does the "buy back" work? Do they give you back the amount you paid for the "JUNK" or do they give you today's market value (as you know as soon as it's off the lot, the value declines significantly). I also got money for the trade in that I gave them and the "JUNK" is paid in full. Any thoughts or info you can provide will certainly help me to push them to do something right for me, the customer.

I am sorry you are having a hard time trying to figure what to do. I am also sorry to tell you it is not as easy as it sounds, the last call we received from Nissan was to tell us to keep working with the dealer and that is a real joke! Like I said they all are working together and against the consumer, they forgot to think about word of mouth and internet, that would be a BAD way to do business. I hope the best for you maybe you should do like our family, just bite the bullet while the value is still decent and trade for another vehicle (oh yeah another brand and then make sure they know you did not buy another Nissan). Good Luck You are in our Prayers!!

Does anyone have a 2009 with the same problems as the above posters? Looking at the '09 Rogue vs. '09 CRV. Tested both. Rouge blew the Honda away in cabin layout/luxury but I think the posters problems are scaring me back to Honda. THANK YOU.

You bet me to the punch as I was going to ask the same question.

To date I know of very few issues with 09s. Not that aren't any but just not aware of them. Of course when I ask my local dealer all I get is denial to any issues current or past.

Typically,,,, when I buy a new vehicle I wait until the third year of its initial release. Have found over the past 30 years that most of the bugs are worked out once the third year hits. While I'm very interested in one, this bit o' history would make wait until the 10s are released before I jumped into a new Rouge. Just FWIW.

Yes I do. I have a 2009 Rogue, with only 3500 miles I had the transmission placed, now it has 4400 miles and I am told it needs another replacement transmission, as it took them 2000 miles to identify the growling sound as being the transmission and given that I have signed up for a 36 month lease, I equate that to approximately 20 transmissions at $5000 a piece (parts and labor). You would think that Nissan would grab the bull by the horns and resolve these issues once and for all. At least for me it is a lease, therefore I just keep taking it back and complaining, if I had paid $30000 screen price straight out of my pocket I would be truly gutted.

I bought my SL AWD Rogue in Oct '07 and in the last few weeks I started hearing a rattling noise coming from "somewhere". I took the car to the dealer this past Saturday, since I was nearing the 36K mark. They told me a screw was loose from the Heating Shield. Not sure how that could happen. I'm starting to wonder about this car. I also hear this different noise when I turn on the AC, dealer told me it's "normal".....not so sure....

Everyone needs to read all the forums about these issues, since consumer complaints has logged 3 very dangerous incidents: 2 owners got into accidents and the air bags did not deploy at all, including the side curtains. One woman took her Rogue into the dealership twice about the airbags, since the first dealership 'test' didn't fix the light on problem, (same as ours). She then went to start the car one morning and the air bags deployed.

A few owners are posting complaints about windows exploding (new to me). One guy said the rear quarter window exploded and one said his sunroof shattered. The dealer fixed the sunroof saying it was defective.

Our 2008 FWD is lunging forward badly during downshifting (it's even scaring me now). This will be the third time back to dealer, so far we have had no luck in getting anything resolved.

Just lately we are also getting very loud lifter noises, but only sometimes. Sounds like the valves are going to come through the heads, is anyone else experiencing this?
  • roguelemonownrroguelemonownr Member Posts: 19
New to this forum. Just saw your posting. I bought my Rogue new 12/31/07...was looking for a Japanese made vehicle...guess choosing the Rogue was a big mistake. After only a few months the engine sounded like a diesel...took in to dealer several times, but service said that they could not reproduce. This past winter the noise changed & sounded like lifter noise when the vehicle was cold. Left overnight so they would have cold...service heard problem then. Nissan had dealership change the lifters. Still heard the noise & got increasingly louder when cold...gave it 2 weeks before I took it back in. Nissan told the dealer to put in new short block...Was initially told that Nissan Tech Line said they were aware of the problem & that a piston supplier sent a bad batch of pistons...supplier had corrected the problem. I called Customer Affairs & asked Nissan to purchase the vehicle back & told the specialist on call back what Tech line had said. Then the story changed that tech line had said I must have a bad piston. The review board said NO. I called back & called back...no response...called the 800 number & an internal message was sent for the CA specialist to call me & was told she would call me back this past Mon...Tue called the 800 number another internal message was sent & asked for a message to be sent to the specialist's supv. Got a call from the supervisor...I explained that the vehicle should qualify under the Lemon Law...asked if Nissan would consider negotiating. Got a call back from the original specialist today (Fri 05/01/09) & was told that the board had decided to not do anything to help me. The dealership's service mgr now says that the #2 piston was bad & scarred the cylinder wall. I would be all in for a class action!

Just got the Rogue back from Universal City Nissan yesterday (third time in for the transmission) they said nothing wrong with the car at all. I had printed up all the postings from this forum as well as 3 others. He basically could care less. My wife has to drive down a grade every day on the 405 and it's scaring the hell out of her.

They gave us a 2009 Altima for the rental car. Transmission (they have a CVT as well), shifted perfectly with no problems, very smooth. I mentioned this fact to the service advisor and he didn't bat an eyelash.

We still have the air bag light going on when some people sit in the front passenger seat, turns out Nissan has that set for over 120 pounds only. So my wife's co-worker, who has cancer, has no air bag protection in a Rogue. Be advised the same goes for all of you, a 119 pounds or less front passenger has zero air bag protection in a Rogue. Am I crazy or is the federal standard 40 pounds or less has to be in a car seat?!

We have had it and are contacting a Lemon Law attorney next week, will keep you all posted.

    New to this forum .
I have a 2008 Nissan Rogue SL AWD. Bought it in July of 2008.
I think it might be me or just bad luck, but many bad things have happened to me + this car since I Purchased it .
I bought this car in haste, as my old 1996 Honda CR-V had had its run, So I fell in love with this car.
I've been in 3 Car accidents with this car ( VERY Minor, Dent/Bumper stuff -- Not my fault )
And lately, the strangest thing happened.
I was driving home on a hot and sunny afternoon from work, on the Number 1 Highway I take to and from work, and I was the only one on the road for at least a kilometer both ways, When, All of a sudden, My Sunroof Exploded !
It scared me so much ! It sounded like a bomb went off right above my car.
I stopped to the side of the highway to investigate, and I was bewildered.
Drove back into town, went to my Nissan Dealership, and I was SOL there. They claim it was a rock, But How? No cars around me, and I didn't go under an overpass, and there was no rock, and the sunroof appeared to have exploded OUTWARD. They told me it was an insurance claim.
So now, I have to Fork up 250 bucks + Possible Premium rate increase to get a new sunroof installed. FRUSTRATING !
My son told me it was possible, but rare that my car is almost airtight, and that the heat caused the air in my car to expand, and thus caused my Sunroof to burst.
Kinda thinking twice and hitting my head about my hasty purchase.... sadly.

So, If anyone has any similar scenarios or anything to say about this 'incident', please let me know.

Exploding sunroofs are rare but they do happen. You can read about other's experiences in Exploding Sunroofs! and Mitsubishi Outlander Exploding Sunroof.

Afraid I learned an expensive & valuable lesson. I have had engine problems with my 2008 Rogue. Only took in specifically for this twice during the first year...Have found out that many states' lemon law requires 4 trips within the first year. I went thru Nissan's Consumer Affairs dept...What a joke!!! I even called them back & almost begged them to even negotiate with me...They again said that they chose not to do anything for me. Have talked to a lemon lawyer and am told I will have to file under the federal lemon law. They say they will ask for a replacement vehicle or half the sticker...I don't want to keep the vehicle. Hope you have better luck.

I have 5400 miles on my Rogue and the transmission is being replaced. I have been reading about numerous problems with the transmissions.
  • roguelemonownrroguelemonownr Member Posts: 19
Believe I now know why Nissan will not buy back. If they buy back, the title will be branded...so I have been told. Just secured the lawyer (Krohn & Moss - no recovery/no fee) last week. They say the BBB must be contacted before they can take to arbitration & that they handle that part of the process...then arbitration...if no resolution, then they will file the lawsuit.

We live in Ohio and have a BBB hearing app't June 23rd. Have already had 2 replacement transmissions (by 5200m) and on driving it back home from the 2nd replacement, was making the familiar noises. Told dealership and awaited their 'regional specialist's' response. (Whatever happened to good, old fashioned mechanics!) Days later, phoned them again, to be advised that the specialist had been told by Nissan USA that he wasn't to even look at our car until after the hearing! By this point, it's now high reving and lurching forwards. It's under warranty, so they cannot refuse to look at it! We drove it to the dealership and left it there last Saturday. Down to one car again. We understand that a 3rd transmission will mean 'lemon', so we just have to wait & see. We are due to go on a road trip up to Maine very soon. Looks like we'll be in our VW Passat, as they will only offer an Altima (had one for 2 yrs - gives my wife backache & stiff neck) or another Rogue (yeah - right!) as a loan car.
The starter motor makes a high pitched noise whilst it's turning over aswell. Getting to the point where we make bets on what'll happen every time it's used! Sad, but true.
Will keep you all posted on the outcome of our BBB hearing. We have stated from the 1st replacement transmission that we've lost faith in the Rogue and wanted out of the lease. There was a Quest on the lot that was reduced to the same price as our Rogue. We wanted to do a straight swop, but we were told, weeks later that unless we paid $1,500, we couldn't. Common sense should have told Nissan USA that they would have saved themselves a headache & money by doing this. At $5,000 per transmission, we are now on #3 and no end in sight! We do not want another Rogue for obvious reasons. The laws need tightening up here. Why are these people allowed to keep selling faulty/dangerous goods? Will it take a fatality to make it happen? Maybe all those involved at Nissan USA would like to volunteer to put their loved ones into these vehicles? Would be interested to see how many bigwigs there actually drive these things? Meanwhile, our Rogue sits outside the dealer while we fork out $$$$ every month!

The rogue was on the short list for my company vehicle and with what I have read here and other places I will steer clear of the Nissan's until they get their act together again.

    dcfc,

Please do let me know how your BBB meeting comes out. My lawyer more-or-less told me not to expect anything from it...was just a formality. I believe they said this process should take around 40 days. Lots of luck to you.

I am also a "not-so-lucky" owner of one of Nissan's Rogue Lemons which was shipped and sold in Texas. Just filed my case with BBB as the Consumer Affairs department, who claims to be "working for the consumer" is a big joke. I have been tossed back and forth between the Service Manager at the dealership and the Consumer Affairs Department for over two weeks, trying to get a DTS Technician to come and inspect the car, at the suggestion of the Service Manager at the dealership after they replaced the transmission, right front strut and a piece of the steering column, only to still have the rumbling vibrations at slow speeds along with a clunking/spring release noise when you start to excelerate in drive. The frustration got the best of me, even after driving with the Service Manager last week and duplicating all of the noises I have encountered since the transmission was replaced (I made it to just over 10,000 miles!!! Yeehaw!) I took the next step in notifying the BBB and I'm interested to see how the hearing goes as I guess I am heading down this same path. Does anyone know what can be done to make Nissan responsible? Has anyone considered calling their local TV station to see if they will do a story on it and put Nissan in the news for this line of faulty vehicles?
  • dcfcdcfc Member Posts: 5
WE HAVE WON OUR CASE! We were given the 'repurchase' decision that we hoped for. Hearing went well and our judge was very thorough in all details - which helped us a lot as we went with facts and Nissan could not fight the truth. Awaiting Nissan's contact to see when to take car back etc. This could have all been avoided, had they simply followed through with their promise of customer care.
We found the BBB & judge to be excellent. Would recommend anyone else in our position to give them a try.
Bottom line is, keep all documents, make a note of days/dates, names, etc. You'll need it, if you ever have to challenge these so-called consumer-friendly businesses.

dcfc - My lawyer told me that if repurchase, then only a few states (WI, etc.) required the buy-back at the mileage on the first maintenance log...otw, they repurchase at the current mileage on the vehicle. Hoping that this is not the case for you...with 35k on my vehicle I was told they would only have to give me 2/3 of the vehicle sticker price. Let us know how you come out.
  • dcfcdcfc Member Posts: 5
We have now signed & returned the papers from Nissan for our :lemon: Rogue. So far, they are complying with the Ohio Lemon Law. They have to pay back everything to us - all payments etc, tax, the lot. The law is that you shouldn't be a cent out of pocket. I am aware that the laws vary from state to state though. (Sympathy to anyone else).
They have 30 days to follow through.
So, now we are awaiting their contact for a person who'll visit us, check over the car's condition etc and issue the cheque/we sign the title over etc. So far, so good.

I have a 08 Rogue sl, I bough it with 28K on it. I like it a lot and it has a lot of extras. The only thing I do not like is that I have a shimmy at low speed. I took it to nisson and they said it was the nature of the beast. The tires on it have only 2k miles on them. Today I took it to another place and had the tires balanced and rotated. but no help, as I still have a small shimmy through the streering wheel. Only between 15-20 miles per hour. I asked the worker today if I could have a tire out of round or a bent rim, he said no. Does anyone else have this problem. Harry

I just bought an 09 Rogue, it has about 300 miles on it now. Up until about 300 miles, I did not hear this noise. Whenever I depress the brake pedal, I hear a click sound like a switch going on or off. This is different from the click that you hear when you first depress the brake to move the transmission out of park and into drive.

I took it into the dealer and they said this is absolutely normal. Could it really be that Nissan manufactured a car that clicks every time you step on the brakes?? Does anyone else hear this? It's not very loud and I could have possibly not heard it because I had the radio on most of the time, but I swear I would have noticed on the test drive.. Thanks in advance.

Took the :lemon: Rogue back to Nissan today. Nissan rep denied we had app't. The guy (who works independantly), had come to check over the car, also was told he didn't have an app't.(even though the rep had sent him an email confirmation!) So-off to a great start! After insisting I would sit there all day if I had to, the very rude Nissan rep agreed to see us. Anyway, the independant guy was very pleasant and checked over the :lemon: car and we got all our money back. Deposited it in our bank on the way home.
That was only possible because we were forced to take Nissan North/USA to the BBB (who did a superb job). Nissan were given every oppurtunity by us to remedy this matter beforehand. They chose not to and we were passed from one department to another, each promising to do different things to help us. No one did. They said Nissan USA was to blame and vice versa.
We understand cars go wrong sometimes. That's life. We just wanted a reliable car to drive, with customer service to fall back on. We never got that. We will NEVER set foot in a Nissan showroom again.

Yeah that is right. I live in Florida where it rains about every day and I was looking ing the mirror when I saw water dripping from the back window. I pulled over to investigate discovered that it was actually leaking. I then said "well maybe it was raining real hard and the water just dripped in somehow and this was just a one time thing", but no I am here to let everyone know that this is not a one time deal and it happends just about everytime it rains. I am making an appointment at Nissan to have this looked at. I will see what they say. Had to put towels in the back under the hatchback. :(

Just wondeing if anyone knows whether the transmission problems on the Rogue have been fixed. I thought I read in this forum that all the trannies built after a certain date (Dec. '08?) were supposedl OK.

I am in the market for a new car in about 6 weeks. Almost all the CRVs by me have been sold, and most of the RAV4's too. Nissan dealers still have a good supply of Rogues though.

Has anyone bought an '09 AWD recently and had problems with it?
  • roguelemonownrroguelemonownr Member Posts: 19
Just saw your post. I am on my second trans...it has about 5K on it & has not been right since put in. I took to another Nissan dealership. They believe an internal belt is cracked/slit. Looking like my probs are going to be coming to an end - one way or another. Nissan has refused to "man-up" & I had to get a lawyer. The lawyer says I have a strong case...should be going to court Nov or Dec...unless Nissan chooses to settle prior. I have been fighting problems since Apr/May 2008. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the info. Supposedly the transmissions built after Oct. '09 are "fixed".

4600 km and 4 months later my 09 Rogue needs a new transmission. Classic gurgling and popping sounds coming from the engine at low rpm. Dealership has to order the part from Japan. What sucks is I asked when purchasing if the 09's are having transmission problems and was assured that only a few 08's had problems and the 09's are fine. What a crock!

Wow, do you really think that those people at bestbuy will tell you that "don't buy this HDMI cable in the store b/c you can buy it online for 90% off"? or

Will those recruiters at colleges tell you that "don't come to my school b/c we don't have as good program as other schools"?

I bought an Orange 2009 Rogue SL AWD in July of 08. One year went by with no problems. I have 25,400 miles on it. I thought that I passed the window of possible transmission issues. However, in August, I started to hear a knocking and pinging under the hood. It reminded me of my Dad's 86 Olds Cutlass Supreme when I would put cheap gas into it then drag race with my friends.
I took my Rogue to the dealer (an actual friendly one). We drove together and it didn't make the noise. They said stop by anytime. I asked if they heard the Urban Legend of Rogues losing transmissions at 4 thousand or 10 thousand miles. They said they never heard of it. Scary.
Anyway, the car seems to run fine. I have power and my mpg is still the same. I actually love this car aside from this issue. I plan to keep it after 200,000 miles as I always run my cars into the ground. It has only a few flaws (that I can live with). I am a teacher, I have MS, I have a wife who is having our second baby in 5 weeks. I don't have the energy for a fight here. I just want the car to be ok. I hate having this pit in my stomach. Will I be worrying about this car the entire time I have it?
What's my plan? I plan to take the car to Nissan this week for them to observe. I have a feeling it will make the noise this time.
Suggestions on how to approach them?
    Key things to say?

Fom what I've read on this forum, you should document each visit, even f they can't duplicate the problem.

Maybe it was just bad gas. I don't think that's the transmission sound.

Good luck, with everything! God bless! :)

Just read your message for the first time. I bought my 08 Rogue new 12/31/07. Nissan has replaced the lifters, put a new short block in, and installed a new transmission. I still have engine problems and transmission problems. I am suing Nissan after doing everything except beg them to negotiate with me. I can tell you that it is important to make sure you get a maintenance sheet each time you visit the dealership with a problem for them to inspect...even if they cannot duplicate the problem. It is important to stay after them - especially during the first year of your new purchase, which it appears that you are beyond. If you continue to experience problems that they "cannot duplicate" and you feel you are getting nowhere, call Nissan1 - Nissan Consumer Affairs - and complain. I did all of this and asked them to purchase the vehicle back...and then to negotiate with me. Nissan flatly refused to do anything. However, the process will provide additional paper-trail that will be needed if you pursue later. Good luck.

Just wanted to let you know that my engine was making a pinging noise as well... I bought my Rogue in March '08. Two months later (approx 3000 miles) I heard the pinging noise constantly throughout all rpms... Nissan replaced the catalytic converter... If you have the same pinging noise as I did please note that it is most likely not the tranny.

The tranny has a very peculiar noise of its own. The tranny noises are being tied to approx 5 - 25mph in deceleration with and without breaking. It is a loud, almost gurgling noise from the front of the car (particularly noticable in parking lots). This noise started occuring in my car at 5000 miles. I am having the transmission replaced for the first time this week at 15000 miles. I have been waiting in hopes that Nissan has solved the problem, but the service rep. told me that Nissan is "still doing research on the transmissions, and that likely installing a new one will not solve the problem."

I also thought I would inform you that I just had what a local service person (non Nissan, i live 2 hrs from the dealership) tell me that the Shift Cable Boot fell off my car. The most recent trip in to the Nissan dealership, I showed them the paperwork and asked that they document it in my car's service file.

The best I can say is keep trying with your local Nissan dealership to diagnose the noise, ask them to look at the Catalytic Converter as that is where my pinging noise came from. Also, definately document every trip to you take to the dealership. I personally dont plan on fililng with the BBB as my car is over a year old and so the lemon laws would not apply to my car. I do plan on purchasing a new vehicle though before my warranty runs out becuase I dont want to be stuck with costly repairs. The car isn't even 2 years old and the Cat and Tranny have been replaced... What will happen at year 3, 4 & 5?

    Best of luck you.

same as you guys, i'm hearing gurgling & popping sound while im on a low speed around 5 to 15 mph... especially during turning in parking lots... It is my new car and i don't have any idea what to do about it... because most of the guys are saying that nissan will replace the transmission but after months the gurgling & popping sound will come back... so what's the used of replacing it? it's just waste of time. eventhough it is the scenario, do i need to bring it to a nissan dealership for repair? will i be liable for the expenses? or the gurgling & popping sound is normal and we should just live w/ it.

Yes absolutely take your car to a Nissan dealership if you are planning on having a new tranny put in. If your car is still under warranty, then no you should not be liable for the expenses. So far with the new tranny & cat. converter, I have not paid a cent.

You do make a good point about the necessity of getting it fixed. At the moment Nissan is saying that is NOT a safety concern. The reason I chose to get mine fixed is that should they decide in 2 years that it is a safety concern (and my car will be out of warranty at that point) I then don't want to be stuck with shelling out the money for a new tranny. Just something to take into consideration.

I have to say that we are trading our Rogue tomorrow, I'm so upset about it. We bought it brand ne off the lot in November 2007. A month after having it we started hearing the noise coming from the transmission. We mentioned it for every oil change and of course they could never hear it. Finally 2 months ago, at 15200 miles, they heard it and called the tech line right away. They said to put a new tranny in it, so thats what they did. Well irs been about a month and guess what, a new noise is back, coming from the same area, but slightly different, its more of a rattling, almost like something is going to fall out!!! I'm so frustrated with it, granted I haven't taken it in again, and they were vey nice but I just can't get over the fact that this is happening to a Nissan with 15000 miles on it. It makes me worry about whats going to happen when the warranty is up? And yes, some would say "well it's free if it's still under warranty.", I say whay should I continue to make payments on a car that probably isn't going to make it past the warranty. Again, so disappointed, nice to know we aren't all alone, but shame on Nissan for not doing more, think of all the others that don't complain or research it on the internet. I'm trading it tomorrow for a Rav 4, hopefully we will have better luck, crushed though, I really like my Rogue. :(

    CVT Program DetailsDear Nissan Owner:

On behalf of everyone at Nissan, we would like to thank you for choosing to drive a Nissan. One of the many technologically-advanced features of your vehicle is the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), an innovative transmission that offers smooth, seamless shifting, while tailoring the vehicle's output to your driving style.

While Nissan is proud to offer this technology on many of our models, a small percentage of owners of early models equipped with CVTs have expressed concerns about the cost of repair of their transmissions after the warranty expires. We take these comments about the cost of vehicle ownership seriously. We strive to provide an exceptional ownership experience and are implementing a thorough Customer Satisfaction Program to address this topic.

First, to provide you with additional assurance regarding your overall cost of ownership we have doubled the warranty period for the Continuously Variable Transmission in your Nissan. The existing powertrain warranty coverage of 5 years/60,000 miles will be extended at no cost to you, for CVT repairs, replacements or related towing, to 10 years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first.

This extension is effective immediately and requires no action on your part. The remainder of your powertrain warranty coverage for components other than the transmission remains unchanged, at 5 years/60,000 miles, and your basic warranty coverage also remains unchanged. All other warranty terms, limitations and conditions otherwise apply. This extended transmission warranty is also fully transferable to future owners of your vehicle.

Second, Nissan will reimburse customers who have previously paid to repair or replace their CVT, if the repairs would have been covered within the new extended warranty period. Even if you no longer own your Nissan we will reimburse you for past CVT repairs that would have been covered under this extension of the warranty.

Further, in the unlikely event that your vehicle's transmission should need repair beyond the extended warranty period we are working to decrease the cost of repair and have already reduced the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of a replacement CVT. In addition, we continuously strive to enhance our products, and have made ongoing improvements to our CVTs over the years.

Nissan is taking these actions to demonstrate our confidence in the CVT technology and to show our commitment to stand behind our products.

The problem is that there're still those who think that 120K miles is not enough. They expect their engines to last 200-300K miles. ;)

Well, yeah, my Nissan will be ten this December and it's over 135,000 miles. Where's my lifetime warranty? :P

10/120 is nothing to sneeze at eh? And if they were losing lots of warranty dollars on the CVT, it'd be hard for Nissan to justify the warranty extension. So good for them.

Glad you got a good engine. Mine went lame at less than 5 months & Nissan finally decided to do something...only changed short block. They had to change the tranny, too. Finally got rid of the piece of junk last week. Still had engine & transmission problems. Still have my lawsuit in place.
