Once all complaints are logged, let the class action suit or recall begin (I'm not an attorney, but would gladly support such a cause). We all deserve new vehicles and compensation for the time and frustrations we have experienced.....of course, Nissan knows about this issue and are ignoring it!!!
I WAS EXCITED TO INFORM THE REP. FOR NISSAN,THAT THE LORD HAD ALLOWED MY FAMILY TO TRADE THE ROGUE FOR A FORD EDGE .
I also explained that he might want to find him a new job before he gets laid off because a company that can not help out there customers sure want be in business long.
I suggest to each of you with this problem start making copies of all the blogs you read with the problems you have and when you call BBB they will want to see these along with all the bills you might have for any repairs YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING'S DOCUMENTED!!
I think Nissan is getting there dealership to side with them in saying there really is no problem, our dealership said it's ONLY audible, I said it wasn't audible when I purchased it and shouldn't be audible now.
I Love My Edge it is more roomy and more reliable, this is the vehicle I wanted first but the Rogue had a lot to offer for the money, (I did not know I would be buying a clearnce vehicle with so much trouble and no company backing).
To date I know of very few issues with 09s. Not that aren't any but just not aware of them. Of course when I ask my local dealer all I get is denial to any issues current or past.
Typically,,,, when I buy a new vehicle I wait until the third year of its initial release. Have found over the past 30 years that most of the bugs are worked out once the third year hits. While I'm very interested in one, this bit o' history would make wait until the 10s are released before I jumped into a new Rouge. Just FWIW.
A few owners are posting complaints about windows exploding (new to me). One guy said the rear quarter window exploded and one said his sunroof shattered. The dealer fixed the sunroof saying it was defective.
Our 2008 FWD is lunging forward badly during downshifting (it's even scaring me now). This will be the third time back to dealer, so far we have had no luck in getting anything resolved.
Just lately we are also getting very loud lifter noises, but only sometimes. Sounds like the valves are going to come through the heads, is anyone else experiencing this?

They gave us a 2009 Altima for the rental car. Transmission (they have a CVT as well), shifted perfectly with no problems, very smooth. I mentioned this fact to the service advisor and he didn't bat an eyelash.
We still have the air bag light going on when some people sit in the front passenger seat, turns out Nissan has that set for over 120 pounds only. So my wife's co-worker, who has cancer, has no air bag protection in a Rogue. Be advised the same goes for all of you, a 119 pounds or less front passenger has zero air bag protection in a Rogue. Am I crazy or is the federal standard 40 pounds or less has to be in a car seat?!
We have had it and are contacting a Lemon Law attorney next week, will keep you all posted.
I have a 2008 Nissan Rogue SL AWD. Bought it in July of 2008.
I think it might be me or just bad luck, but many bad things have happened to me + this car since I Purchased it .
I bought this car in haste, as my old 1996 Honda CR-V had had its run, So I fell in love with this car.
I've been in 3 Car accidents with this car ( VERY Minor, Dent/Bumper stuff -- Not my fault )
And lately, the strangest thing happened.
I was driving home on a hot and sunny afternoon from work, on the Number 1 Highway I take to and from work, and I was the only one on the road for at least a kilometer both ways, When, All of a sudden, My Sunroof Exploded !
It scared me so much ! It sounded like a bomb went off right above my car.
I stopped to the side of the highway to investigate, and I was bewildered.
Drove back into town, went to my Nissan Dealership, and I was SOL there. They claim it was a rock, But How? No cars around me, and I didn't go under an overpass, and there was no rock, and the sunroof appeared to have exploded OUTWARD. They told me it was an insurance claim.
So now, I have to Fork up 250 bucks + Possible Premium rate increase to get a new sunroof installed. FRUSTRATING !
My son told me it was possible, but rare that my car is almost airtight, and that the heat caused the air in my car to expand, and thus caused my Sunroof to burst.
Kinda thinking twice and hitting my head about my hasty purchase.... sadly.
So, If anyone has any similar scenarios or anything to say about this 'incident', please let me know.

The starter motor makes a high pitched noise whilst it's turning over aswell. Getting to the point where we make bets on what'll happen every time it's used! Sad, but true.
Will keep you all posted on the outcome of our BBB hearing. We have stated from the 1st replacement transmission that we've lost faith in the Rogue and wanted out of the lease. There was a Quest on the lot that was reduced to the same price as our Rogue. We wanted to do a straight swop, but we were told, weeks later that unless we paid $1,500, we couldn't. Common sense should have told Nissan USA that they would have saved themselves a headache & money by doing this. At $5,000 per transmission, we are now on #3 and no end in sight! We do not want another Rogue for obvious reasons. The laws need tightening up here. Why are these people allowed to keep selling faulty/dangerous goods? Will it take a fatality to make it happen? Maybe all those involved at Nissan USA would like to volunteer to put their loved ones into these vehicles? Would be interested to see how many bigwigs there actually drive these things? Meanwhile, our Rogue sits outside the dealer while we fork out $$$$ every month!
Please do let me know how your BBB meeting comes out. My lawyer more-or-less told me not to expect anything from it...was just a formality. I believe they said this process should take around 40 days. Lots of luck to you.
We found the BBB & judge to be excellent. Would recommend anyone else in our position to give them a try.
Bottom line is, keep all documents, make a note of days/dates, names, etc. You'll need it, if you ever have to challenge these so-called consumer-friendly businesses.

They have 30 days to follow through.
So, now we are awaiting their contact for a person who'll visit us, check over the car's condition etc and issue the cheque/we sign the title over etc. So far, so good.
I took it into the dealer and they said this is absolutely normal. Could it really be that Nissan manufactured a car that clicks every time you step on the brakes?? Does anyone else hear this? It's not very loud and I could have possibly not heard it because I had the radio on most of the time, but I swear I would have noticed on the test drive.. Thanks in advance.
That was only possible because we were forced to take Nissan North/USA to the BBB (who did a superb job). Nissan were given every oppurtunity by us to remedy this matter beforehand. They chose not to and we were passed from one department to another, each promising to do different things to help us. No one did. They said Nissan USA was to blame and vice versa.
We understand cars go wrong sometimes. That's life. We just wanted a reliable car to drive, with customer service to fall back on. We never got that. We will NEVER set foot in a Nissan showroom again.
I am in the market for a new car in about 6 weeks. Almost all the CRVs by me have been sold, and most of the RAV4's too. Nissan dealers still have a good supply of Rogues though.
Has anyone bought an '09 AWD recently and had problems with it?
Wow, do you really think that those people at bestbuy will tell you that "don't buy this HDMI cable in the store b/c you can buy it online for 90% off"? or
Will those recruiters at colleges tell you that "don't come to my school b/c we don't have as good program as other schools"?
I took my Rogue to the dealer (an actual friendly one). We drove together and it didn't make the noise. They said stop by anytime. I asked if they heard the Urban Legend of Rogues losing transmissions at 4 thousand or 10 thousand miles. They said they never heard of it. Scary.
Anyway, the car seems to run fine. I have power and my mpg is still the same. I actually love this car aside from this issue. I plan to keep it after 200,000 miles as I always run my cars into the ground. It has only a few flaws (that I can live with). I am a teacher, I have MS, I have a wife who is having our second baby in 5 weeks. I don't have the energy for a fight here. I just want the car to be ok. I hate having this pit in my stomach. Will I be worrying about this car the entire time I have it?
What's my plan? I plan to take the car to Nissan this week for them to observe. I have a feeling it will make the noise this time.
Suggestions on how to approach them?
Key things to say?
J
Maybe it was just bad gas. I don't think that's the transmission sound.
Good luck, with everything! God bless!
The tranny has a very peculiar noise of its own. The tranny noises are being tied to approx 5 - 25mph in deceleration with and without breaking. It is a loud, almost gurgling noise from the front of the car (particularly noticable in parking lots). This noise started occuring in my car at 5000 miles. I am having the transmission replaced for the first time this week at 15000 miles. I have been waiting in hopes that Nissan has solved the problem, but the service rep. told me that Nissan is "still doing research on the transmissions, and that likely installing a new one will not solve the problem."
I also thought I would inform you that I just had what a local service person (non Nissan, i live 2 hrs from the dealership) tell me that the Shift Cable Boot fell off my car. The most recent trip in to the Nissan dealership, I showed them the paperwork and asked that they document it in my car's service file.
The best I can say is keep trying with your local Nissan dealership to diagnose the noise, ask them to look at the Catalytic Converter as that is where my pinging noise came from. Also, definately document every trip to you take to the dealership. I personally dont plan on fililng with the BBB as my car is over a year old and so the lemon laws would not apply to my car. I do plan on purchasing a new vehicle though before my warranty runs out becuase I dont want to be stuck with costly repairs. The car isn't even 2 years old and the Cat and Tranny have been replaced... What will happen at year 3, 4 & 5?
Best of luck you.
You do make a good point about the necessity of getting it fixed. At the moment Nissan is saying that is NOT a safety concern. The reason I chose to get mine fixed is that should they decide in 2 years that it is a safety concern (and my car will be out of warranty at that point) I then don't want to be stuck with shelling out the money for a new tranny. Just something to take into consideration.
CVT Program DetailsDear Nissan Owner:
On behalf of everyone at Nissan, we would like to thank you for choosing to drive a Nissan. One of the many technologically-advanced features of your vehicle is the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), an innovative transmission that offers smooth, seamless shifting, while tailoring the vehicle's output to your driving style.
While Nissan is proud to offer this technology on many of our models, a small percentage of owners of early models equipped with CVTs have expressed concerns about the cost of repair of their transmissions after the warranty expires. We take these comments about the cost of vehicle ownership seriously. We strive to provide an exceptional ownership experience and are implementing a thorough Customer Satisfaction Program to address this topic.
First, to provide you with additional assurance regarding your overall cost of ownership we have doubled the warranty period for the Continuously Variable Transmission in your Nissan. The existing powertrain warranty coverage of 5 years/60,000 miles will be extended at no cost to you, for CVT repairs, replacements or related towing, to 10 years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first.
This extension is effective immediately and requires no action on your part. The remainder of your powertrain warranty coverage for components other than the transmission remains unchanged, at 5 years/60,000 miles, and your basic warranty coverage also remains unchanged. All other warranty terms, limitations and conditions otherwise apply. This extended transmission warranty is also fully transferable to future owners of your vehicle.
Second, Nissan will reimburse customers who have previously paid to repair or replace their CVT, if the repairs would have been covered within the new extended warranty period. Even if you no longer own your Nissan we will reimburse you for past CVT repairs that would have been covered under this extension of the warranty.
Further, in the unlikely event that your vehicle's transmission should need repair beyond the extended warranty period we are working to decrease the cost of repair and have already reduced the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of a replacement CVT. In addition, we continuously strive to enhance our products, and have made ongoing improvements to our CVTs over the years.
Nissan is taking these actions to demonstrate our confidence in the CVT technology and to show our commitment to stand behind our products.
10/120 is nothing to sneeze at eh? And if they were losing lots of warranty dollars on the CVT, it'd be hard for Nissan to justify the warranty extension. So good for them.
