After January 2009, Dick Cheney will be the perfect spokesman to sell Hummers, following Bob Dole's footsteps! Most Hummer types probably think a world of him, and look upon their Hummers to help them overcome in areas where the may be falling short, and Bob Dole's Viagra can come in handy!

Thanks for the descriptive word "Most". t_o_d is definitely a blue person in a red state. Some people only think of on/off, they all are, and etc. At times, don't like being included, erroneously, as in the go go, macho man, guns, hunting, fishing, hd's - (hogs). (By the way any truth that moab uranium mining is making the river glow at night). Been to asia courtesy of sam, rode a bwm boxer for a couple of years-but definitely been sad since the propaganda machine took over our constitition.

Obviously you are being ignored, which is the proper response. Even my comments elicited nothing. Enjoy your prius. Toyota seats are toyota seats. The air filter test for diesels has been linked several times. Stick with a clean factory filter.

Each can walk, ride a bike, or buy what each can afford or want to pay. And we are all entitled to free speech and thought. Yes, there are negative prius comments in hummer posts-provoked by the gestures and vandalism against hummers owners and their vehicles. Who started it and when - don't know - but think it should stop-there are bigger fish to fry. Hope you got your licks in - did that make you feel better.

    Thanks You Edmunds!
What should GM do with Hummer. GM wants to sell the name? No takers? H2 is a limited production play toy. H3 isn't as tough as some believe. H3 isn't as bad as most believe. Still would buy one without rock crawling gears. [even though finally got around to putting on the billstines (any comments on the rear top mounting nuts?)]. Autoblog? eds say the little pick up is now dead (and the twins come in last - shutter Shreveport). Large pickups for grocery get'n are sitting on the lots.

Walk away from the H2. Put together a pow-wow with GM, Mahindra or Tata or ?, and the Hummer franchisees and just change the name on the building and switch out the inventory. Although it seems that if a restaurant fails, almost every thing that uses that building seems to fail.

We will find a body on frame with a modest towing capacity - don't need a one ton.
The grocery getter truck bed is about as useful as a sedan. The gm wagon that wasn't, suv cuv whatever, a wagon will beat a sedan everyday if the gearing doesn't need to be changed to offset a toy motor-g v w and all that-look at what your capacity really is.

A national news magazine reporter would like to speak with owners of a Hummer and are having buyers remorse. If you are an owner, please respond to ctalati@edmunds.com with your daytime contact information no later than Thursday, July 24th.

    good luck to that reporter.

from what I read hear, Hummer owners stand by their decision like loyal supporters of George Bush.

sorry if the analogy offends anyone.

We discourage going political in model/make specific discussion. Political discussions tend to generate flames which we don't need.

Just caught up with autoblog and the reuters story. We are still here. Surprise us. Not rockcrawlers not blingsters. Just want built like bull, bear, or whatever.
  • tired_old_davetired_old_dave Member Posts: 710
Maybe Edmunds already has the topic running. Caught up at insideautomotive a few days back and got the impression that a bear may want Hummer and that Cerberus needs cash from a Jeep sale. If internal combustion is dead, maybe a pow-wow is in order but bigger than smersh. Maybe the old Big Three should have one. Sedan forums malibu talk about camry, accord, malibu, with some tosses for taurus or altima or another also ran.

Ford and Chevrolet have unique strengths and weaknesses while the only Cerberus products ever considered were a cummins diesel engine, and the jeep. Put the good points of all three together and build a few good products without plastic window regulators and plastic truck hubs.

Goofed off today and one stop was at the Hummer dealer. Seems gm is paying you to buy the last of the '08's. Had another thought recently but just came from insideautomotive with the bad news.

Thought the financing guys would've had some creative ideas. GM had a costly learning lesson when Olds was killed, no buyers for Hummer, now selling Hummer again.

Had a crazy thought that Hummer should be sold to us, owners and other interested parties-complete or partial. Management, not only at the general, seems to be incompetent these days (good old boy network, frat brothers, hand shake societies, who knows).

Then there is the union is no good, lazy workers, etc. No it is not us it is them.

Now they want billions to stay alive. Why? The middle class has been destroyed and those that haven't may soon be. Let them fail. Buy Chinese or Vietnamese or Brazilian vehicles next year. have the malibu and the h3. You have to burn up what you didn't lease.

saw a bumper sticker with a picture of a Hummer with the word "Dummer" written underneath.

    just thought i'd share

Two other hummer forums have posts which pretty much say it all. The announcement to sell hummer. The management goofs. Buy a give away '08 H3 or wait for the best ever H3, the '09. Don't they always walk away after they get a product right. Went back to look at wrangler a few more times(cerberus to sell off jeep?). Looked at an H3 '08 with those prices but really holding out for a loaded '09. Now wishy-washy gm sell the line, no takers, sell the line - wonder why we are sitting back.

One post recently, if no hummer then back to jeep, if no jeep back to toyota.

Like the full time 4wd for better_half - no lever to pull. Would liked to have had a higher geared commuter h3 with 3.55 gears and lockers (wanglers, I believe have 3.21, 3.73, and of course the 4.10). Then have the real rock crawler version. Like sfa but didn't like mag article about unlimited's highway wander (alignment problem only?).

A little better highway performance with the ability to get out of trouble. Plus a tired old back doesn't have to crawl down into the sedan/wagon (as a new H3 owner in canada posted).

Not to use a scare tactic, but the roads are getting worse-where did we spend our treasury, billions to oil companies but not a dime more in road taxes to keep our highways from turning into toll roads (who's getting that money), and of course the drunks on the highway. Again, a couple just died in the metroplex when they were hit by a serial drunk driver in a tahoe? (he survived).

Can't believe I got the answer to the road taxes and more. The road tax idea was from listening to Ed Wallace's radio show (with great Backsides of History segments) some time back. And my answer is in this Sunday's Ed Wallace's column in the Fort Worth Star Telegram which is linked to at insideautomotive.com

I think GM is smart in selling Hummer. From a financial standpoint Hummer is losing money... GM would not only gain money by selling but also it will seal up one of its wounds. GM already has too many truck based SUV's, which is a dying market. I believe that they should still keep an SUV line around but I think a Tahoe/Suburban is a better choice. I understand and respect that there are those of you who do use these vehicles for their actual purposes but I'm afraid to say you're a minority. I see more Hummers in rap videos and mall parking lots then anything. I live out in the country and I still see people using Hummers as an alternative to a minivan instead of a hauler or boulder basher. Believe me I'm not bashing Hummer as a tree hugger or environmentalist (I own an SUV), I just don't think it is the right choice for GM to keep it alive.

The three don't want to merge into one. No money for the automakers. Some still don't understand the manipulation they are reacting to. war of the roses, the red army the white army, reds going ballistic against the blues. And a son of a military man who brags about not voting has tried to get people to read (history if nothing else) and use the instrument in the cranium and not just mimic fear mongerers. The artcle linked ends nicely. Maybe the Chinese will be building our cars in the plants they bought this holiday season.

Funeral homes should line up to buy all unsold Hummers and convert them into herses - they will be very appropriate to carry away the dead after the collapse of the Big Three ....I am sure Mr. Wagoner and Mr. Lutz would relish the thought of their last journey in a Hummer!

You could, if you really cared, sell your prius move to a city and walk or use mass transit or even better telecommute since nothing is built here - people only push papers and there is a lot less of that every day.
  • tired_old_davetired_old_dave Member Posts: 710
As much as I believe society has gone down the wrong path with suburbia and sprawl, and while it is not nice to threaten congress or anybody, maybe the big little three should shut their doors at 8 am tomorrow, send employees home, send supplier trucks back, take an extended holiday season. No payroll, no paper pushing, just wish the employees and America a very Happy long holiday season until New Year's or later if the feel good feeling still lingers.

Well, Tired Old Dave, when I read that the Detroit Dickheads flew to the Capital in their private jets, with Tiffany begging bowls, I din't know weather to laugh or cry - even a fresh PR college grad could have told them to fly South West - these guys are really arrogent, stupid and don't get anything outside the world of middle aged White men on the golf course!
I walk to the Metro station, live two blocks from Whole Foods and drive my Prius only for grocery shopping and road trips.

I think it would have been better for them to form a convoy to Washington with all of their latest models including hybrids and electric vehicles. Think of the P.R. they would have gotten. :)

.....these guys are really arrogant, stupid and don't get anything outside the world of middle aged White men on the golf course!

Arrogant indeed. They're claiming that their present troubles are solely to do with the current credit situation and have nothing to with the fact, as has been suggested, that they continue to design and build vehicles that the public has little interest in driving.

These people are as isolated from reality as the tobacco executives that each stood up and solemnly swore that smoking tobacco wasn't a known health hazard!

As was suggested, think what a huge amount of positive publicity could have been generated if they'd each driven to Washington in the most economical vehicle that their respective companies produced. Offering to take a cut in salary and bonuses would have helped too.

However, having an innovative business plan to show how the money could be used to good effect would have been more impressive still. Just turning up and expecting a sack of cash to take home is arrogance indeed!

if they'd each driven to Washington in the most economical vehicle that their respective companies produced.

With their luck, their convey would have broken down on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. :P
Lots of bailout talk is happening in the Do You Favor A Government Loan To The Detroit 3? discussion (well, it's happening all over, but especially so in there).

Should the title be changed to "What should China do with Hummer" or just close this as read only. Does anybody care? I just hope they don't threaten our Italian American Rubicons by building a hummer with first class parts (from where). Why should a tough 4x4 need to carry so many spare parts or a kings ransom in aftermarket parts

While for now our dfw dealerships appear to be alive, it was unexpected to see Subaru in large letters on the hummer dealer's roof in Edmond, OK.

Just checked Ed's site for the link to the story of two new offers for Hummer. So much for my low ball bid. The right people with the right ideas can make it what it should've been. After last summer and now this winter if the coming summer is a repeat should we expect another winter like this one. The market is there. I will keep my low ball bid set aside and hope the right smart people don't get involved and destroy my chance.

We love our H3 and our Rubicon but what if ...

The funny thing is, you quote the porsche as being worthy of praise for all that it does environmentally. However, take the cayenne. 17mpg highway. There are many h2 owners that get 16 stock and better once reflashed with an intake and highflow exhaust. However, here is the big distinction, it can actually tow something more substantial than a jetski. Also, the H2 will destroy most any other vehicle out there off road in stock condition to include the landcruiser and 100k range rover. Also, towing capacity is better than both of those and you wont tear apart the frame trying to tow massive amounts uphill. But back to your porsches (which I LOVE btw), so a car that gets 22mpg under good conditions in highway miles serves a purpose? So max speed limit anywhere in the US outside of Montana is 70mph, so in MPG terms your vehicle can move 4 people 70mph at 22mpg (not exactly true it is probably less with the excess weight). There are plenty of vehicles out ther that can match and beat that performance and carry luggage in excess amounts for thousands less and use more environmentally friendly materials in the doing. Hell I can name some with a boxer engine at that (think subaru). How is that any less a car of excess. Meanwhile you can put 7 people in an H2 and get 16mpg. So doing the math, one gallon of fuel gets you 112 people miles in an h2 and 88 people miles in a porsche. I realize that an h2 is not carrying that many people often but you see my point. And when you speak of fit an finish and reliability lets start talking maintanence cost. Replace a tierod on an H2 and then do the same on a porsche, let me know which costs more. Or we can go brake pads, I'm sure that carbon ceramic pads aren't cheap. The list goes on. Regular maintenance on a 80k dollar porsche will far exceed an H2. I'm just saying I wouldn't exactly tout the porsche as the answer to the universe. I will probably buy a 997 in the future though. Also, I would highly advise you to rethink you position on which is more annoying and dangerous, check the numbers on major (fatal) accidents involving porsches vs hummers, including occupants in other vehicles, I think you will be surprised. And as far as having blind spots, they are no worse than many vehicles on the road in the SUV market. And there are plenty of people out there that shouldn't be driving vehicles like that. I don't find the H2 daunting to drive at all. However, I also drive a 33 foot long 45 thousand lb fire engine with only side view mirrors. So when you talk about blind spots I think you are dealing more with people that don't know how to drive a large vehicle. And some people don't get to call in when there is snow on the ground so I can see why they would see value in a vehicle that is all time 4wd and has the capability of driving over snow burms. Or people that want to ride in a cool vehicle (yeah I said it) like a porsche is even though it isn't the most practical thing in the world. But again, I can show you things an H2 can do that any other vehicle on the market can't and still be within the confines of the law without having to go to a track. Can you say the same with a porsche. I doubt it (those yellow caution signs actually have legal significance in turns btw), and I can show you vehicles that can do the same as porsches or better on tracks for heaps less (light modding included of course).

    Hi,

I just read your post about Hummers ... I'm thinking about buying a Hummer here in Stuart, would use from time to time to pull a horse trailer with 1 horse, maybe 2 at times. Anyway, if you don't mind replying to my mail, I am asking several people for their opinions. I'd really appreciate your thoughts ... Thk you so much

The trailer weighs almost 4, 000 lbs, each horse weighs around 1, 300 lbs and the Hummer (2007 H2) weighs 8, 600 (gross vehicle weight).

What are your thoughts, think the Hummer could safely handle the weight ?

    Thks again, trish
