On the creaks, have you taken it into the dealer? They might be able to fix it. Could just be some screws that need tightening, or maybe a shot of silicone spray between rubbing plastic parts. These kind of squeaks can be tough to eliminate though.
It's clear what the NHTSA did. They published the test results of the sedan for the Touring also. I think this is very misleading on the part of the NHTSA. The Touring is a different design than the sedan. The Touring is heavier and taller. I don't see how the NHTSA could think that the test results, which include rollover, for the sedan would be exactly the same for the Touring. To state that they are is gross negligence, IMO.
Maybe the IIHS will actually test the Touring so we can see its true performance in crash tests.
I was a little concerned about mileage but I am getting 30 mpg or more consistently in suburban driving here in Westchester county, NY.
It's the best car I've ever owned. And I only paid $18,800 for the full SE version. Go through Zag.com for the best deal. Oh and those heated cloth seats are great. No cold-to-the-touch sensation when you first get in like leather.
It's also got almost all the safety equipment thats out there. All it needs is daytime running lights. Perhaps there's a kit available for that.
When you test drive it make sure the tires are properly inflated. They come off the truck with too much pressure and that affects the ride.

I drove both the auto and the 5 speed and loved the manual, but the wife is pretty much insisting on the automatic.I loved the pick-up on the 5 speed. Now I am waiting for a white one with a beige interior.I could do without the roof rack, but that is just the way it goes.
I get very poor reception for both AM and FM. My 1997 Ford Escort had way better reception with the old pull up antenna! This one is a short roof mounted antenna.
Hyundai service says there's no fix. I have phoned a couple Car Audio stores that basically said the same. They say I might change the antenna but no guarentee it'd help and it'd be expensive. They also say Hyundai radio systems are known to be of poor quality.
Any suggestions? Are there any adjustments? Some form of booster? Different antenna? Change radio? I'm not wanting to go satellite, etc. I just want better reception!
thanks for any help
My 2010 Elantra touring base 5sp is quicker. The ride, sound system, road noise all the same as my 2000 model. The trackshon control, ABS and tire pressure monitoring are new. Hope these new systems hold up because I really don't need them even in Minnesota. I noticed the new wagon is 500lbs lighther than my older one. Maybe the automatic transmission weighs more. Paid $14990 with $1000 rebates. Should get another $1000 back on my Fed taxes too.
I want to use it as a family car --- I would need to fit two booster seats and a car seat.
Good Luck with your new Ford Fusion. I'll have to wonder how reliable it is at 150,000 miles.
I opted for an $80.00 device called a BlueAnt that clips to my sunvisor and gives me hands-free dialing and talking freedom. Plus, it's a portable device that one can move from vehicle-to-vehicle. I conduct a lot of business via cell while driving and the BlueAnt works perfectly.
I am going to follow another poster's advice upthread and get the windows tinted. Does anyone have any other window-tinting advice to offer: type of tint, manufacturers, tinting services to look for? And I also want to get those rainshield-window things as I like to drive (even in winter) with my windows open a bit.
Thanks,
Todd
Withoud studs,IMO there is little difference between snow and the tires which come on your new car.If snow is such a big problem, why not an all wheel drive vehicle?
I just bought a 2010 Elantra SE and I have the same problem. After much research this is what I know...
- The little antenna on the roof or shark fin as it is nicknamed is for the satellite
radio.
- The actual AM/FM antenna is embedded in the rear window.
- If the rear window is tinted and that tint has metal fiber in it (which is pretty common) that will cause week reception on both AM and FM.
- I spoke with SunTek Window Films and they have confirmed this to be the case.
- To eliminate the problem you need a carbon based window film/tint.
I'll report back in a few days after my tint has been changed out to the carbon based product. Hopefully I'll have good news.

Are you sure about this? I've got an actual antenna coming out of my shark fin (3-4" long).

You can get 11% off by signing up for their mailing list, but shipping was $11 to NY (and they are in MA, so I can't imagine it will be cheaper than that for anyone). I was going to wait to order it before posting because they are claiming the regular price is $25, which I think is a mistake, but now I don't need to buy one. There is someone on ebay selling them for ~$50 plus shipping from Canada, and another ebay seller of Hyundai parts said he could not match the price on that site (which once again makes me think they have it priced wrong).
See below.

I did not go there to verfiy it was for the touring - I think the touring one and the sedan one MAY be different - don't know yet. Good luck!
Sorry - best price is the $23.75 then at the site you mentioned, which I did visit before for actualy Hyundai parts.
Anyone get a good price on the Cargo Tray? I'm seeing $50.40 as best price currently.
Is the 2009 the same dimentions as the 2010?
Also, has anyone purchased an EOM for bluetooth and self-installed? Is this fairly simple for owner to do? Our 2010 ET did not come with one installed.
> price currently.
I found a cargo tray for $67 on ebay (with free shipping) but it claims to be for a 2009. I'd be surprised if it is not compatible with the 2010 model (you should be able to tell from the hyundaiaccessories site). You can get 8% back from your ebay purchases by using Bing Cashback, using Buy it Now and paying with Paypal. Not sure how much shipping is on your $50.40 price.

The one feature they really forgot to include was a mute button for the radio on the steering wheel. It's a real pain having to turn down the radio when a call comes in (or when I try to make a call) since the Bluetooth is voice activated (and it gets really ugly when my GPS decides to speak). My Mazda6 had this. I also miss the climate control on that car so I don't have cold air blowing on me until the engine warms up, but I understand that's generally reserved for more expensive cars. I'm enjoying the XM a lot more than I thought, I may even renew it if I can get a good deal. Leather seats might have been nice but given that I'm not impressed with the quality of the leather on the steering wheel, it's just as well that they didn't use it on the seats. I've been able to fit a bunch of stuff in the trunk, it's probably smaller than my Mazda6 hatchback but it will be fine for most things.
What really surprises me is that I have yet to see another of these on the road. I see plenty of Matrix's and Fits so it's not like people don't like the form factor. I feel like when I got my Elantra GT back in 2001, and it had just come out and were hard to get. But this car has been out for a while so I'm really surprised I'm not seeing them. I guess it's Hyundai's best kept secret.
I guess I should post this in the reviews section :-).
I have one issue I wanted to get a feedback on and that is heated seats. Mine work great with 2 lights on - the max. setting, but with one light on the lower setting I can hardly feel any heat. I made sure that I do not have a coat on, but still no warmth at all. I'm thinking of mentioning it it to the dealer during my 1,000 mile check up.
My dealer was great to deal with. Very straight forward and helpful, without the usual BS that car sales people are deservedly known for.
I highly recommend the car: GLS for softer ride and SE for a firmer ride lovers.
You cannot beat the warranty and road side assistance, especially now with all these recalls.
$100 per pressure sensor is too much money. I would rather drive w/o them during the winter on new rims with dedicated snows.
If I had to choose between my 2008 Elantra SE (which is now in the body shop because my dear twenty year old daughter hit a pole at college during a snow storm and did $3,500 worth of damage to the car) and the Touring, I would pick the Elantra SE. I guess I'm more of a cushy, quiet ride driver. My rental car now is a 2010 Toyota Corolla and I can't say I feel totally safe driving it. Before purchasing my Hyundais, we were always a Toyota only family.
