Just to ease the tension, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I also replaced my instrument cluster in my 03 EXT as did my best friend who has an 05. I think Chevy needs to do some explaining ............... one instrument cluster too many!

I also have a 2003 chevy Trailblazer LTZ. I have only had it for 8 months and it has been one thing after another. I had only had it 1 week and the rear end went. I had to fight them to fix it under my warranty, but they finally did. Now my speedomoter is acting up. It (like many others) is acting as though 70 or even 120 is the 0. Sometimes it doesn't work at all. I ahve contacted Chevy about this and they said they will not fix it because my original factory warrany is up. They have recalled the speedomoter cluster's on Tahoe, Avalanche, and a few others also, but will not recall the Trailblazer. I have wriiten to the Better Business Bureau as advised by my dealership. I would like to advise anyone who is having this problem or knows anyone having this problem to also write to their BBB. The more of us that write the better our chances of getting it recalled. Please everyone take a minute to do this. Thank you.

The alt light would glow on my 2003 TB. Took it to the dealer several times to have it checked out. Everything always checked out OK. After bringing it in for the 3rd time they replaced the cluster and everything is fine.

Just to let everyone here know... I have also posted the same problem with my 2003 TB EXT LT.... $453.26 to repair at my dealer... Of course GM was not willing to offer any assistance. There is a more recent post open regarding the speedometer that has more people and is the same issue.

I need instructions on how to repair my 05 trailblazer insturment cluster if anyone has any that would be great
  • ss_hobbyss_hobby Member Posts: 1
trailvoy .com has the fix for this, it requires some soldering. Common problem that Chevy knows about and has a lawsuit against them for most of their vehicles except for the trailblazer and envoy...go figure. Your problem is the stepper motors located on the back of the instrument cluster. Each gauge has a little motor connected to it and they recommend replacing all 6 motors when you do the fix because more than likely they are all going to go eventually. All of my gauges are failing except for the speedo. I had brought the truck to a chevy dealer and they didnt know what was wrong, they did not have an answer except to replace the instrument cluster for $400. You can buy the stepper motors from ebay for around $36 a set or find a mechanic locally that can rebuild it. There are guys on ebay that offer a rebuild service for around $70 but you have to mail them your cluster and then get it back after the fix.

My speedometer has gone out, the temp gauge was reading low, fuel on empty. I went to the local dealer about it no recall on 05 Trailblazer, but on everything else. They gave me a price of $ 611.00....NO WAY!!. I found on Ebay - http://stores.ebay.com/GM-Cluster-Repair
I removed my cluster and dash trim including light switch and 4x4 selector. shipped it out on Monday Fedex, got it back on Friday. cost was about $90.00 including shipping both ways. they clean it, replace all motors and calibrate all gauges( which is important). I was able to drive my vehicle without any problems, even the automatic headlights, without the switch connected.

To me, this worked very well!

    Hello Chevytas,
Have you had the vehicle diagnosed for the concern? Do any codes come up on the DIC? Thank you,

I wanted to start a new thread, since there are so many posts on the existing one about the problems with the Trailblazer instrument cluster. This is a long post, because I have tried to be thorough, so be patient.
I believe I may have found a reasonably economical solution to this problem, but first, I want to give some background information on my experience.
I also need to vent about my personal feelings, regarding the absolutely pitiful lack of customer service concerning this issue, so please bear with me.
My 2004 Trailblazer, with only 29 K miles, started having erratic gauge readings (Volts and Temperature) last winter (2010-2011), right after snow had been piled up on the hood for a couple of days (I live a little south of Detroit, so this happens frequently), and I was really puzzled by this problem.
The two gauges gradually returned to normal operation a few days after the snow was removed, and stayed okay until February 5, when the Tachometer, Temperature, and Speedometer all went to the 6 O’clock position and stayed there. After a few days, everything in the IC again returned to normal operation.
    [Start of Venting]
I did some research on-line and found that this was a widespread problem with GM IC’s. I was also very, very unhappy to learn that, for some reason known only to their corporate bean-counters, GM was more or less selectively thumbing its nose at Trailblazer owners. I do not know why they decided to take this position, but they have lost a 45 year loyal GM buyer by playing this game.
I stuck with them through the garbage paint years (70’s-80’s), with two trucks, and the side-saddle gas tank (I had one of those trucks) but I am through. Enough is enough.
From now on, I will buy Ford cars and trucks.
I had terrible luck with my Dodge Dakota, which I bought from my sister (she now buys only Asian vehicles), but I will walk before I buy foreign, just on principle. Anyway, I had terrible luck with a 1985 Toyota Tercel (a real lemon, that my sister gave me for free, because she could not get the infamous carburetor problem fixed). I ended up donating that wreck, which I could not keep brake pads on, to the local high school auto shop.
My 2002 Silverado truck gives good service, but I am not going to reward such rotten and unfair [seemingly arbitrary] customer service on my Trailblazer, which is otherwise a really nice vehicle, by purchasing another GM product. They know there is a valid problem here, and the IC recall should extend the rest of the way, to include the Trailblazer line. A lot of innocent people are now stuck with a potentially dangerous and expensive problem, and they are just blowing us all off. Not cool, at all. We tried to buy American, and support GM, and look where it has gotten us.
I guess GM’s typically short-sighted cost-benefit analysis was not run far enough out to show how much money they will lose in the long term because of lost repeat sales and bad word-of-mouth. It sure would have been cheaper (it always is, isn’t it?) to just do the right thing by their customers.
I am a proud American, and always try to buy American, but I have to say that this short-sighted outlook by the Harvard MBA types who have taken over our industries is going to continue to force more people to buy from foreign-run companies.
Our off-shore competitors, especially the Japanese, do take a more long-term approach to R&D and customer service, and it is paying off for them, at our expense.
I even tried to contact a [local, but well-known and very frequently advertised] law firm, to try to start a class-action lawsuit on behalf of all Trailblazer owners, but they never even responded to my e-mail. So much for their supposed and often repeated claim about caring about the little guy.
[Okay. Venting complete. Back to work.]
On March 7, I started the Trailblazer’s engine and the IC was completely dead. Even the PRNDL and Odometer were not lit. Now, what the h--- is going on? I turned the engine off and restarted it, but the IC was still tango-uniform. Only the seat belt warning light was flashing.
I let the truck sit for three hours, while I went to buy a new battery. I thought that the original one may have had low voltage issues, or internal high resistance problems, even though the Volts gauge had always read nominal. This original battery was almost seven years old, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to replace it, just for preventive maintenance.
After installing a new battery in the Trailblazer, and installing the old one in my 2002 Silverado [no problems with the 2002, using that suspect battery, to this date], the IC in the Trailblazer was fine. I drove it for 20 miles, with several off and on cycles, and all was well.
I concluded that the problem had been with the battery not being in top shape. Maybe the IC circuitry was sensitive to that (although I thought it should not have been designed to be that critical of supply voltages), and that leaving power disconnected for three hours had allowed the keep-alive circuitry in the PCM and/or IC to reset.
Then, a few months later, the IC started going bat manure again (gauges not resetting to zero and wildly swinging all over the place). I noticed this happened after several days of rain (Michigan has had an unusual amount of rain this year), and the operation of the IC would return to normal after the vehicle had apparently had a few days to dry out.
This, along with the experience with the snow earlier in the winter, now made me believe that the problem was moisture related. I thought that there was some corrosion somewhere, which was trapping the higher than normal ambient moisture, and causing a shorting, or at least a lower than normal resistance condition, somewhere in the Trailblazer’s electrical system(s).
I remembered reading, in an on-line forum, that someone had mentioned corrosion in an electrical connector, somewhere in their vehicle, and that their mechanic had suggested this was the problem.
The operation of the IC gauges slowly returned to normal (they gradually reset themselves back to their initial “zero” position, a little more each time the vehicle was driven and cycled on and off).
I did not have the time to pull the IC out and check for corrosion on any connectors, so I lived with the problem, mentally calculating, on the fly, what the actual driving speed should be, by subtracting where “0 M.P.H.” happened to be on that drive’s “partial reset” cycle, and keeping the tank a little fuller than normal. The Fuel gauge seemed to be working, but I did not trust it.
Spending up to $700 to repair the IC was not an option, even if I could afford to do so (which I definitely can not!), just on principle alone. The local Chevy dealer gave me a verbal shrug, when I called and complained about the whole lack of a recall for the Trailblazer series, only. Also, I had read several posts where this expensive repair had still not fixed the problem, and that would not have made
  • 50s_kid50s_kid Member Posts: 3
    me happy.
I finally set aside some time to pull the IC out and try to properly diagnose the issue, which I did on September 12.
There are a couple of on-line videos showing how to gain access to the cluster (gee, that’s an appropriate name for this situation, isn’t it?). I found this one, which is actually about getting to the radio, helpful:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Usdd90B5zo
I would strongly caution that, as soon as the shift lever is moved to Low, you turn the key to “Off”, and REMOVE THE MAIN NEGATIVE CABLE FROM THE VEHICLE BATTERY.
You need to leave the battery connected initially, to be able to shift to Low. Also, the ignition key can not be removed after the negative battery cable is unhooked, so allow for that. I had to remove my key ring from the key, as you need as much clearance as possible to slide the main bezel past the steering column and its ignition switch bezel, with the key still in it.
Again, I don’t care what your friend, or your uncle, who both know everything about cars, say about not needing to completely remove power from a vehicle’s electrical systems, before doing electrical work on that vehicle. REMOVE THE NEGATIVE CABLE FROM THE BATTERY after the shift lever has been moved back out of the way (in the Low position).
After I had the IC out of the car (it is held in by four 7mm (9/32”) bolts, and is connected by a single large plug-in connector), I removed the plastic back cover and looked at the circuit board traces with a magnifying glass. There were many pockets of corrosion around numerous pads (the places where the component leads pass through connection holes in the board and get soldered in place).
Since I am a computer technician, I had access to an ESD grounding strap, so I could ground myself before touching the board’s traces. That may not be required, but I would highly recommend at least holding on to a grounded surface, while you are working on the exposed board and traces. Maintain this contact CONSTANTLY, as it does not work to momentarily “discharge” yourself, in spite of what you may read. As soon as you let go of that grounding point and move your arm, you will build up another static charge on yourself, and be right back to a charged up square one.
I’m not trying to be a pain about this; just trying to save you future problems. ESD damage does not always cause an immediate failure. It can weaken a circuit, on a microscopic level, leading to premature failure, later on.
I cleaned (remember that I was continuously grounded all during this time) all of the pads and their surrounding areas with a paper towel and 97% rubbing alcohol. It took a few rubs per corrosion area to remove the corrosion, which thankfully had not permanently damaged the pads or adjacent traces.
Before putting the IC back into the vehicle, I unplugged and re-plugged the large connectors between the IC cable and the vehicle’s chassis interface. This junction is in the engine compartment, and has rotating locking rings, which have to be carefully turned to release the connector from its mate, before separating the two parts. I wanted to be sure that any corrosion that might have built up on the pins or sockets of these connectors would be removed (scraped off) by unplugging and reseating the connectors. Be gentle with this operation, and remember, THE NEGATIVE CABLE MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE BATTERY BEFORE DOING THIS!
    Really. It does.
After reinstalling the IC, reassembling the dash, AND RECONNECTING THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE, the car started right up, and the IC worked perfectly.
As of afternoon today, October 6, the IC has worked normally, and there have been many cold and/or rainy days and nights since it was cleaned.
Hopefully, this will be the end of the problems with the IC. I sure don’t feel like removing it, again, especially in the middle of a Michigan winter, and having to replace all of those stepper motors.
I am still royally ticked off at GM for their total and dismissive lack of customer service on this whole mess, though, and I will never buy another GM product. Thanks for a whole lot of nothing, guys…

Steve, the moderator, suggested that electrical contact cleaner, which is available at auto parts stores, would be a better alternative to the rubbing alcohol I used, in case someone tries to use a more diluted type. I agree. Just check if there are any cautions about using near plastics, and mask off those parts. The can of CRC Lectra-Motive that I have in my garage has those cautions, so I would have masked off the plastic parts of the IC.

Well, just got back from my dealer after having my fuel sending unit replaced with the 50/50 offer from GM. My gas gauge has not been working in my 05 Trailblazer for the past three years. Imagine my dissapointment when they told me that they replaced the sending unit because it was bad but my gas gauge still doesn't work because of an Instrument Panel Cluster failure. This is just a tip of the iceberg for repairs on this vehicle. I'm thinking the next car probably won't be a GM!

For quirky things like this, it's usually the actual ignition switch itself, not the one the key goes into. It's under the steering column and is black, not hard or expensive to replace. Very common problem.

Well it looks like I am not the only one that goes 90mpg while sitting perfectly still....thankfully I can use my husbands GPS to determine my speed because should I get a speeding ticket on base I loose base driving privileges and I hardly think they're going to be good with looking at the stuck speedometer!
So what's a gal to do? Looks like Chevy won't do anything about this and it's not my first dash issue. I had issues with the gas gauge in 2007 shortly after we bought it. And the whole elec system was nutty, but it worked almost every time I went in with it. Go figure. Anyway the fixed the gas gauge deal for a minimal fee if I remember correctly. I forget what the culprit behind the elec system, lights coming on when they pleased..maybe it was that sensor on the dash.

Also have the reving bad idle deal, strong smell of antifreeze with no leak? And speakers that come on at random. (not a major concern on the speakers) But if I can't trust my speedometer then how do I know if my engine temp gauge is good or not?! It smells hot year round, but there isn't any leakage?!

SO now what..speedometer...is the Trailblazer Chevy/GM's disposable baby? Not worth the hassle of repairing for their owners at I am sure what is a far lesser cost than the $500.00 plus fees their garages are charging on here from what I have seen. AND the 500.00 is totally accurate as I just called our the dealership here in Jacksonville NC. 350.00 for the part and 150.00 for the labor and he too said GM is not doing a recall!

I am QUITE disappointed in what I have read and in Chevy as I grew up a Chevy girl. My Hubby's 1996 Silverado with over 230,000 mi is looking to be more reliable than the vehicle I use to tote our kids around when he's deployed! (no he is not deployed right now, Praise God!)

Hello Christina my name is Sherrall and I have have several problems with my 2005 Chevy Trailblazer:

    1. the gas gauge went out in 2010
    2. the car will stall at a stop light or drive through
    3. the oil gauge went out April 2012
    4. the truck is now idling low June 11, 2012
    5. the speedometer went out June 22, 2012

I've taken my car to the dealership on two different occasions and they have told me that as it relates to the car stalling, they have no idea what is causing it. As far as the gauges are concerned I would have to have the instrument cluster replaced and it would cost me approximately $800. I took it to another shop last week and they told me I need a new ENGINE! This is my only means of transportation and I can not afford to replace the engine and have the instrument cluster fixed and whatever else is wrong with it. I have read many posts regarding this same problem and I'm curious to why GM has not had a recall for this problem? It is extremely hard for people to support "American made" if we don't take care of our "OWN!" I would appreciate any help you can provide me with this matter.

    Thank you in advance.

    My VIN# 1GNDS13S452119817
Mileage-141K (It was less than that when I took it)

My 2004 Trailblazer ext has lost tach, oil pressure, temp, speedometer. Gas guage still seems to be ok but we certainly do not trust it. Also quoted $800.00 for gauge repair from Chevy dealer in SW Florida. I too have issues with the stalling and the idle. It hurts the budget a little bit but we have been using premium fuel and that seems to help with the idle and stalling. Mine is at 105K. It sure would be nice if GM stepped up. Thank God for the GPS to help manage with the speed.

I had the same issue with my 2004 Trialblazer EXT. The driver motors on the instrument clusters are junk and fail intermittently. Please do not spend hundreds of dollars to get it repaired. IF you are fairly handy and can do basic soldering you can fix yourself with a $35 kit found on amazon. IF you are not comfortable with soldering the new driver motors on then you can send your instrument cluster our for repair or some places will just swap yours for another repaired and keep yours as a core to shorten turn around times. There are videos on you-tube also that will walk you through the process.

I am having similar problems with my 2004 Trailblazer EXT (76,000 miles). It is stalling at stop lights, but not every time I drive it. I was told that it was because there wasn't a good seal on y gas cap, so I bought a new one. I also had problems with the Service Engine Soon light coming on and was told it was the thermostat, so the thermostat was replaced and the radiator flushed. The light hasn't come on since that was replaced. Sometimes the Service 4-Wheel Drive light comes on occasionally. I am mostly worried about the stalling. It happened tonight at the first stop light I came to after driving about 2-3 minutes. It also happened 4 days ago at a stop light. It's driving me crazy! I keep reading different things about what's wrong and what to do. It's very frustrating

I'm experiencing EXACTLY the same problems with my 2005 Trailblazer. Have you found a resolution yet?

At first my gas gauge broke so I had that repaired...they then told me that the stalling would be fixed if they replaced the fuel pump...$750.00 later, I'm stalling now on a daily basis. In the meantime, I have a loose gascap that seems to trigger the check engine light.

I'm perplexed and my husband is too. I don't want to bring it back to the dealer and get charged more money without a resolution and have them charge me for something else that doesn't need to be fixed.

Please let me know if anyone else has found a resolution to their similar problem.
  • 04trailblazer04trailblazer Member Posts: 2
Replacing my gas cap and getting a new thermostat fixed my "check engine" problem. The stalling seems to only occur when I am on an incline or decline and if I haven't driven it very far. I talked to 2 different mechanics at 2 different places (one Chevy and one independent) and they both said that in order to figure out what it is, the SUV would need to be "coding" something currently and mine is not. We tried to hook it up at O'Reilly's auto parts, but the codes can't be old ones; they have to be current or you have to take it to a mechanics for $95. I was told to keep driving it until it happens more often. It starts right up after it stalls, but it's still a huge pain in the %$#!!! I have stopped the shuddering at my intial stop (stop sign) in the morning by letting the SUV warm up a little bit. I usually start it up and take off, but I have been starting it, letting the RPMs drop under 1 and then take off. It's helping.

I had the same problem with the trailblazer stalling out at a light or stop sign. Not a big deal at first until it starts to get worse and happens more often. I went to the dealer and they replaced one of the six coils that the spark plug wire connects to since these trucks do not have a distributor cap and rotor like the old school autos. Each coil costs over $250 to replace and I only had one replaced and the stalling stopped. I would reccomend that you get a fuel induction and throttle body cleaning service with BG products too (about $125.) It has been about two years since and the stalling is starting to happen again. I think you have to wait for a coil to get bad enough where the stalling happens alot for the mechanic to know which coil is the problem. Eventually I will probably have to replace the other 5 one by one as this seems to be a manufacture defect from GM. I am not sure if you can replace these coils yourself but of you can get the parts cheap than replace all 6 while you are at it. I had to replace the main pulley wheel in the front of the engine about 3 times on this truck too. You will hear a grinding noise from the engine when that starts to go and when you look under the hood it is obvious... Also, if the AC fan ever breaks make sure you have not only the fan replaced but also the wire harness relay that connects to it all located under the glove box. I had to replace the fan twice because it was the wire harness that connects directly to the fan that was the cause of damaging the fan. I had to replace the gas tank due to the faulty gas guage not working. I had to replace the instrument cluster due to the spedometer not working. I had the tranny replaced at about 34,000 miles... I just had the ball joints replaced and both upper control arms... The only good thing is I had the brakes replaced at the dealer at about 45,000 miles and they are still good over 45,000 miles later but the tradeoff is that since the first day I replaced the brakes I have been hearing an annoying squeaking noise when I apply the brakes coming from the front. I just the genuine GM brakes are made out of solid metal or something and they hold up for a long time...I do not trust Chevy anymore. My truck has 93,000 miles and thank god I had an extended warranty. My next purchase is going to be a mercedes glk 350.

I stopped at the mechanic's today to ask why the RPM dial keeps getting stuck between 7 and 0, he told me he had the same problem with his Tahoe, and the only who can fix it was the dealer, and it would const me close to 800, so I called the dealer and indeed they told me it would cost that much, i did some research online and i found out that there a lot of people with the same issue, but since is not an "safety" issue Chevrolet will not recall it, but i think that is CRAP! seems to me that CHevrolet uses disposable parts so we expend a lot of money fixing them, instead of doing good reliable cars, no wonder they almost went out of business, this is my 1st and last chevrolet i ever owned, i will go back to ford, those are made with better parts, and last longer, my husband has a work pickup 98 ford, and for the last 9 years the only thing that pick up needs is just tune up and oil change no mayor repairs, or defective parts. SHAME ON YOU CHEVROLET, i hope you go bankrupt again for GOOD!!!!

I hope someone can help me. Okay on a Sunday morning I was drive my chevy trailblazer to church and all the lights on the dash came on and the gauges quite working like if my car stalled but it didn't so I called my husband and he told me to switch it off and turn if back on so I did and everything worked fine until I was leaving church and it did it again but then the service 4wd light was on so we took it to get it worked on they said it was the instrument cluster so we had it sent off and we got it back the other day and it still didn't fix the problem. The battery light is on the brake light is on and the abs light is one and air bage light is on and the gas, temp.., battery, oil pressure gauges does not work we took the alternator off and it isn't bad. we have no idea what it could be and times are really tough on us right now and can't afford to take it to the shop to get it worked on. And i was just wondering if someone has had the same problem or can someone help us I would really appreciate it and please say a prayer that we can get this fixed for my family thank u and God Bless All..

I am not positive but that sounds like the start of one of the coils from the coil pack that connects to each spark plug wire going bad...It may only be one coil that would need to be replaced...I would have a mechanic run it on a machine and see if they can detect that....This sounds like the problem if it only happens like at a drive thru or a stop light. It will start to happen more frequent as you go...I never had my car stall out while driving but it would either stall out or feel like it is going to stall out when stopped at a light. I think the price was over $250 to replace one coil.

I too have a 2004 and they told me that my cluster is out! Almost 800+ dollars to fix. Chevy ought to be ashamed! So many problems with this very same thing!

My husband and I just bought a 04 trail blazer yesterday, everything was great then after we got it home and drove it around the block a few times the gas hand stopped working which I thought wasn't a big deal cause my husbands in his truck hadn't worked for years and he has a 01 silverodo and just recently he got that fixed. So today I was driving it and the speedometer just stopped working so my husband took it to auto zone to have them hook it up to their computer and on the way he called me and said the speedometer was working but now the check engine light was on. So they hooked it up and told him it looked like the O2 sensor and I noticed when the trail blazer is idoling that it is kinda a sluggish idol. I'm just really upset about the whole deal because everyone in my family owns a Chevy and we just bought it yesterday and I don't know what to do. My husband is taking it to the dealership first thing in the morning but I'm still worried because I'm afraid to spend money and it not fix the problem, I'm relying on this vehicle to get my daughter which is 2 and myself around, does anyone have any suggestions? Please!!!! And Thanks!!!!

My wife's 2004 Trailblazer has had the gauges malfunction recently. Some days they don't work at all and other days they work intermittently and make sounds. The last 8 digits of the VIN are: 42380799. The vehicle is in mint condition and has 77,000 miles. Our local dealer is Harbor Chevrolet in Michigan City, Indiana.

We are loyal GM customers and have bought a dozen new GM vehicles through the years and currently own the Trailblazer, a Tahoe LTZ and 2 Buicks. We were wondering since there seem to be so many issues with these dash clusters if there was or is a recall?

    Thanks!

First let me say that GM has had numerous problems with IC s I have my own Auto shop have had alot of these repaired , The stealership sends the ics out for repair , as a repair shop the cost to me is $225.00 for complete repair , so call your local dealer's parts depo and tell them u need to drop it off for repair and whats the cost , if they ask what shop tell them your a small local shop use ur last name etc and pay cash with tax thats it .

as far as needing an engine that sounds like a con job get another opinion, this is common for Gm ics

As far as the car stalling goes, does it idle at a consistent rpm or does it fluxuate all over the place? If the idle is all over the place or inconsistent(watch your tach if you have one or have one that works) then I would suggest replacing the Camshaft Actuator Solenoid. This part can be purchased a NAPA for around $70.00 and is fairly easy to install if your mechanically inclined. I have replaced this part twice on my Trail Blazer and it solved the problem with stalling every time. It will not help with the dash cluster. That is a different problem all together and GM knows it. The GM dealership should have been able to easily figure the stalling problem out with out too much trouble because it is a very common problem with these vehicles also (separate forum) and almost always relates to the replacing this solenoid.

I have a 2005 Trailblazer and recently my oil gauge stopped working completely and now my speedometer has also stopped working. For about 2 weeks my speedometer would bounce around but never read the actual speed I was going. It generally stayed at 70 mph even when I was stopped. I have had nothing but problems with this car and will never buy another. When I called and got a quote from Chevy it was around $800 to fix the tachometer. It is upsetting to see so many other people having the same problem and Chevy refuses to fix the problem.

I am having the same issue with my 2003 Trailblazer. I also had gone to church on Sunday evening and all my dash lights go on. After church, my lights dimmed and I was afraid to drive home so I called my son-in-law to come and pick me up. Took to shadetree mechanic and he doesn't know what's wrong. This all happened on day with lots of heavy rain and my back passenger side window is broken so it was down a few inches. Does anyone know if moisture got inside somehow?
Please let me know what your solution was! Thanks so much!

My 2005 Trailblazer speedometer shows I am going 55 mph while sitting still. I see many discussions with the same issue. Does anyone know if GM will replace the parts as indicated by others who have posted?

I was wondering what the possibility of forming a group to file a class action lawsuit would be. GM has acknowledged the instrument cluster issue on several other models but don't want to address the Trailblazer as one of the problem models
They are knowingly subverting the problem and making us owners pay through the nose to fix THEIR problem of selling defective equipment on these vehicles. I too am having the same problem and they want me to pay $100.00 just so they can diagnose the problem. Then $600.00 more for the part when they darn well know they built these vehicles with defective parts. So if they won't voluntarily issue a recall then I think as owners we should force the issue.I am sure that there are plenty of lawyers who would take the case as GM would end up footing the bill

So I have contacted Eric Gibbs of Giraldi Gibbs LLC about this issue and I was told that there is enough proof out there to get the ball rolling on this. We just need to get enough plaintiffs together to file. I just find GM's outright repression of this issue to be deceptive and repulsive. So if GM doesn't want to step up and do right by all the good people of this country who are trying to support American manufacturing then we need to exercise our American right to have our day in court.

I was wondering the same thing as to why GM wont recall the issue since there clearly is an issue the instrument panel per all the posts. When I called GM it was nearly a $1000 fix to get new parts and labor. The service tech beleived GM doesnt recall the problem since it is not a "safety" issue. If you begin the class action suit I will help you post on all these other threads to see if we could get enough people who have expierenced the same issue who would be willing to participate.

Thought I would post a.) to not feel alone on this issue, b.) to state my symptoms to see if anyone else has had them. Speedometer went dead on 04 Trailblazer Instrument cluster all other gauges working fine. Spent $600 dollars on a new IC to fix the speedometer at the dealership. Two days later the oil pressure gauge is reporting abnormal high values, value rises as I apply gas. Now the oil pressure gauge "starts" at 60 when engine is turned on and doesn't fall back to 0 when the engine is off. I feel like it could be a defective IC/steeper motor on the oil pressure guage or maybe my unit wasn't fully replaced just "fixed." I am scared to take it back to the dealer to be had for more repair costs that weren't there before the IC was replaced. Any ideas/suggestions?

    Frustrated.....

First the oil gauge quit working, then the gas gauge. The cruise control quit working and then the CD player. Now my speedometer reads 31mph sitting still. The cost of the repairs are ridiculous...I'm in for a class action suit against GM for their dismissal of these issues. MLP
