Hello all,

As always this forum is a great source of info'.

Has anyone here ordered a new Camaro yet?? My lease on a 2007 Hummer ends in Feb' and I would like to order the new SS Camaro. Hoping it is one of the safer GM buys these days..

Has anyone been able to order one for MSRP or less? Also will GMAC let me extend my lease a month or two until the Camaro arrives?
Thanks for the help,
Rich

When will the 2010 Camaro start being made and shipped to the people that have ordered one, GM told me on an email that they have no production date set . Maybe someone here at EDMUNDS can get some answers. ????......

I ordered my Camaro 4 weeks ago. My dealer rep called me last week with the news that a defect was discovered in one car. The seal in the windshield was bad, which halted production. I was told that, hopefully, I would see my car some time in May. I will look towards June, maybe I'll get an unexpected surprise and see it in May, but I won't count on it. What's worse, I'm not financing with the dealership, I'm ready to write the check, they're getting paid-in-full, but even THAT won't speed-up the process....

What are you paying for it without tax & title? Which one and which dealer are you buying from? Thanks!
  • yh8myssyh8myss Member Posts: 17
I'm paying just over 32, with all taxes/title money included. That's for the 1SS, V8, 6-speed manual, RS package, and red jewel paint. I ordered it thru Sunrise Pontiac GMC in Collierville, TN. Not really sure what the price was before the tax-man hit me. I've been busting their chops about getting some kind of discount or deal, but I'm not gaining any ground, yet. I'll be honest, since I saw the car in the '06 Auto show, I've been making it financially possible to pay a good penny for the car, although I won't give up on some kind of deal. I don't want to get shafted, but I do want the car. So does everyone else that orders one, so they know they can try and work folks over on the price. First purchase for the new ride... A very good security system. Any suggestions?

Hey Im right here in Memphis also! I am looking to get one too! Who did you deal with? You are paying cash and they didnt want to cut you a deal???!!!!
  • yh8myssyh8myss Member Posts: 17
The salesmans name is Sam( I wouldn't ask for him) He's extra shady, I didn't catch it quick enough. Right now I deal with Steve Farris(Sales Manager) or Monica Berkheimer. Monica is really the person I'm staying in touch with because she is the person that put the order in and is in contact with the factory in Canada. She will ultimately be the person that knows when the car is on it's way to the lot. They'll ask for $2000 to start the order. I said I'd give them $1000 and they went for it(I still may have given up too much). As far as paying them in full when the car gets here, they have no control as to when the cars will reach them, so I guess it sucks for them, too. I plan on haggling for some love(either on the price,a really good warranty, SOMETHING) once the car is closer to getting here. Basically, when you order the car, you go in and the salesman will ask you which car(LS,SS...), what options(RS package, etc.) color? All of choices are entered into the computer, it spits out your car and price, and they ask if you want to order it. Of course, that's when they inform you that they require $2000 to start the ordering process. Tell em you'll drop off $1000 and you should be good. I asked about cutting me a deal, then, but that was talking to Sam, and he has no power. I think I can come out of this deal in good shape, but the waiting sucks. The waiting period is roughly 8-10 weeks. I'm into week 6.

This explains why when I inquired at a local dealership about if I were to order a Camaro why it wouldn't be in until December. That would be fine if I didn't live in Massachusetts. You can not drive a muscle car in three feet of snow, ice and salt. I don't understand why production is taking so long???? Any ideas?

Not sure what is holding everything up. Hopefully they are making sure they put out a quality product. I have read blogs about how cheap the plastic is inside the car. I also read that someone thinks the glovebox is too low. I would be OK if these are my biggest problems with the car. I don't want the plastic to crack and fall apart, but I'm not gonna be that worried about it. One issue that I am interested in is the vision. I've driven sportscars that have limited vision, so for myself, I'm good. However, I have a wife that will eventually need to drive the car, and that's an issue.... I do have promising news. I'll be sitting in one tomorrow. I came home(from Jazzfest in New Orleans..) to a message on my machine from my Rep. They'll have a Camaro on the showroom floor on May 6th. So, I'll be there on my lunch hour. I knew one would be here before I got mine, just didn't know when. My Rep did say that the car is for sale, so it could be gone before I get there. I will be asking about production and time-tables, so I'll post what I find out.

Be careful in buying the new Camaro----remember it is a first -year car, with all the inherent problems first -year cars have(ala first year 2004 GTO), GM is full of internal problems, union/management, what dealerships will be around-------------they will be closing many--how far you will have to drive to get to one and when you get there will there be "competent" mechanics to fix them.
Remember GM has disbanded their HI-PERFORMANCE TEAMS.............they are gone .........fired/retired or sent to other divisions.....
Us GTO guys knew their tech. representatives by first name and GTO FORUM GUYS knew who to ask for. No such people left.

Please be aware ot these factors.Good Luck.

That's a good point. I hope nothing like that goes down. I'm one hour away from heading to the dealer to check out what they have on the showroom floor. My target date is now May 27th, so I may be in it sooner than I thought. I'll live on the edge and take a chance, I might be really happy with it, become the 2010 SS GUY.....

Here's what I think about the new Camaro after the unveiling yesterday at my dealership. This is opinion without actually driving the car. The test drives are scheduled to start today. First reaction as the cover was removed? My wife says all I did was smile, and lite-up like a kid @ xmas. It was impressive for sure. Black paint and a mean stance. This wasn't even an SS! Brought in a base model LS, 6 cylinder, nothing special. It really is a good looking car. Now, the inside is bit of a toss-up. It has more room inside than I was expecting. I'm only 5'9" and I had plenty of headroom. Everything udjusted to meet my needs, and the visibility is about what I expected, not great but not something I can't get used to. The back seats are typical, "Camaro small". This won't be a primary vehicle, so no worries there. On to the plastic... They really did over-do-it a bit with the plastic. I don't know how "cheap" it is, but it seems that there is alot of it. When I sat in the drivers seat, however, I no-longer gave a /!@%*! about the plastic... All I wanted to do is drive the car. It felt good, and it's different. The gauge placement, shape, alot of differences that make this car new and retro @ the same time. Overall, nothing is perfect, and this car is no exception. Having said that, I can't wait for mine to get here. Without driving the car, I give it a B+ to an A-. Not too bad. I have some more news on the pricing of these bad-boys(seems the dealerships like 'em,too) but I gotta run 4 now.
  • yh8myssyh8myss Member Posts: 17
My impression of the Camaro is positve, overall, and I believe I'll really enjoy the car. HOWEVER, had I not ordered mine back in March, I wouldn't be buying one, period. The base model LS that is on display @ my dealership has a price of $32,900 on it. INSANE mark-ups. A $5000 "fair market" mark-up from the dealerships alone. My 1SS, V-8, RS package, special paint, tax, title, etc. was $32,400 when I ordered in March. I had it put in writing yesterday that the $5000 "fair market" addendum would not be added to my car. I explained how they could give me the $$$ I had put down back and that I wasn't paying one penny more than my invoice stated. Amazingly, since I was the 5th order placed, they agreed that no extra $$$ would be added upon delivery of my car. I got that in writing just to be sure, and I think they got the message. I may have to pay the remaining $30,000 without a deal, but compare what they are asking for these cars now with what I'm getting, I can live with that. It's a sharp car, but damn...
  • yh8myssyh8myss Member Posts: 17
I must apologize. The Camaro I saw yesterday was the LT model, MSRP $27,000. Add the $5000 and there you have it. Also, with some investigation, I have found that it is up to the particular dealership as to whether or not they add the "fair market" addendum. I found one dealership that is aware of the other dealerships adding the $$$, but they say they aren't adding anything. So, there is still hope of catching a break on the price, but the wait sucks. You could always buy what's on the floor, but those cars will have had far too many test drives for me. Good luck to all in your quest for the elusive Camaro....

I am 27 and currently driving 2000 honda prelude.. i am really having a hard time deciding if i should get a camero or not.. it seems that american cars are getting better but i am still worry about the reliability and those things.. honda prelude has been very reliable and no issue with the car (except for transmission at 60,000k which the warranty took care of). Now, my car is at 140k and still driving well.. but i am kinda bored of it.....
i am thinking of the camero LT1 with RS and conv. package, moonroof, spare tire ~ 30k from chevy website...
    anyone has any opinion?
  • yh8myssyh8myss Member Posts: 17
I felt the same way about American made vehicles as you. I wondered about the reliability and finally decided to try a new one out. I bought a 2003 Dodge Ram Quad cab back in September of 2002, and I have to say that it's been a really good truck. It helped my wife decide on her next vehicle purchase. She bought a 2007 Durango, fully loaded with the Hemi, and it's been a great ride so far. I always thought I'd keep my truck, but I also own a Jeep, and when I saw the Camaro in the '06 Auto show, I knew I was going to try and get one. Make sure you get very detailed with whatever dealership you deal with. The price on the Chevy website and the price that comes up on the dealership computer will probably be alittle different. And make sure you ask about any "fair market" addendums.

Dealer markup or market adjustment is only as much as your willing to pay. I called local dealers to ask if they were doing a ADP, I ordered mine at msrp.

Has anyone been notified their SS is in transit yet?

I have always thought the new Camaro looks very nice except for the tail lights... now here is the fix by Fesler Moss...

now the car looks way better (just in my opinion only)

Does anyone know of GM pre-orders to start being filled first now that dealers have received theirs?
  • vettelover4vettelover4 Member Posts: 1
As a 51 year old Vette lover and owner, I should kept my last Vette an Mint 2002 thinking that the 2010 Camaro was going to be an Awesome looking car. As usual the Proto type Hype photos were very misleading. The car is too big, looks nothing like a sports car, the wheels are too big and makes the car look stupid.
I may as well buy a Dodge challenger because it has been out and the first year production quirks worked out. I wish GM well because I want American car companies to survive, but I think this car is going to be a dud. As usual GM tried to copy someone and not be orginal and factual to the truth of American car buyers desires and dreams.

Who would be stupid enough to pay a 5000$ mark-up. I would just wait a few months. I do not believe anyone needs one that bad. :confuse: :confuse:

I hope they are doing that for good quality. It could be to keep the price inflated....

    mparis1,

Sorry you had an issue with your GTO, but the Camaro is one car that shouldn't be warned against as a first-year car. If you know anything about the mechanics of this vehicle you know that most of the major components on this car are ones that are already being used in other cars (i.e. the engine is from the CTS) and have been for many years. There is also no issue with any fixes on GM vehicles as far as dealerships/service go. The government mandates that all warranties/services/etc are taken care of regardless of dealerships closing.
  • iwant12iwant12 Member Posts: 269
Hasn't there been 2 recalls already on this car? I hope they get the bugs worked out. I saw my first on the highway this week and it was in a word: Awesome. Yellow with a black hood. I had to do a double take. Myself, I'd probably wait and go for a 2011 MY V6 RS. Good looks, 29mpg, fast enough for me, good handling, what's not to like?
  • iwant12iwant12 Member Posts: 269
I wanted to add that in regards to the recalls, I am not harping on GM. I'm not a hater; most of the cars in my life have been Chevys (Z-28s) or Pontiacs (T/As). My first car in fact was a Firebird. Probably explains what I'm doing following this Camaro thread.

Have a great Memorial Day. Thank you troops!

    Regards,
    Dale

I went by the Chevy dealer on the weekend and do you believe that the Camaro was unlocked the whole weekend. Some fellows where sitting in it on Sunday. It was nice on the inside, but I closed the door and listened to the usual GM cluck door closing. Sounded like metal against metal. Typical GM car. NO thanks I will pass on the Camaro.
    mark :(:(
  • iwant12iwant12 Member Posts: 269
Thanks for the report, mcribb. Metal on metal sound doesn't inspire me. It's sure a good looking ride, though. Somewhat off putting, for me, is the porthole trunk opening. I know it's not the reason for buying this type of car, but I need a certain amount of utility. But the awesome looks, 29mpg, price, and horsepower sure is enticing.

My wife and I have been discusing the purchase of the Camaro ever since we saw it last fall at the Texas State Fair and had decided we would purchase one at some point. We went and checked one out at a dealer and while driving off we both looked at each other and said "that's not going to work". The visibility especially from the front windshield made me feel like I was looking through a narrow slot. The side windows I might could have handled. I actually did feel a little claustrophobic. I did not drive it and might give Chevy another shot a me, but I was disappointed at first look because I think they got everything else right.

  • greeneyespsugreeneyespsu Member Posts: 139
I can't say that I've listened to the door closing, at least on the inside. I've demonstrated the door closing on the outside to consumers many times. The Camaro is a solidly designed car and the weight of the doors, along with the design afford them to close without push-through assistance within certain range of the side of the car. To me, the doors sound solid and I'm not sure what other sound you would be looking for in a car door -- if the sound of a car door makes you not want to buy it, you probably were looking for a reason not to in the first place and aren't an enthusiast of that car. (Which is totally fine, I'm just saying. And this goes for any car, not just the Camaro.)

Anyway, about the trunk. The opening is a bit smaller than the opening of most cars, but the trunk space inside is rather roomy. Additionally, the backseat folds flat to allow for great cargo room. While the opening may look small at first (relatively), it really isn't as much of a hinderance as you would expect. For our street teams we have large A-signs we take out to display near the vehicle and it is pretty much the exact size of the bottom of the trunk. We fit it in through the trunk opening and carry it with the backseat upright, no problem.

Also, to address visibility in the last post.. it's a sports car, not an SUV. The visibility is not any less than what you would find in a comparible vehicle. My mom drives a Cobalt and I found the visibility to be less than that of my Cavalier (RIP), but it was because of the sportier design and it was something that I quickly became accustomed to. Side and rearview mirrors are in our vehicles so that we don't have to dangerously turn our heads while driving anyway. I really urge you to test drive the car and I think you'll find that it truly is a great car and pretty much everything you would want and expect in a sports car. :)

If you're in the SoCal area, let me know if you want to come out and see the car in person (sorry, no test drives!) and learn about it from a product specialist (no sales/dealers) a weekend we're out and I'd be happy to show you around the car.. I think you'll like what you find. :)

I finally got my first up-close look at the new Camaro, and I have to say that I'm more than a little bit disappointed. Granted, it has all the advertised horses, so it's not lacking in performance; but performance alone isn't enough to get me to take on a rather substantial new car payment. I was hoping they'd make some improvements from concept car to finished product; but unfortunately, that hope was dashed for me today.

In addition to a very uninspired interior and lack of visibility from inside the car, the outside appearance just isn't that appealing to me. I was really hoping that they'd do what Ford did with the Mustang, i.e. take the best parts of the late 1960's models, do a little bit of tweaking to update it for the new millenium, and create a classic looking vehicle. Instead, Chevy chose to completely squash the headlight area in the front end, not to mention the really weird looking tail -- although I understand they have after-market fixes for that end of the car. I seem to be the only one complaining, though, so maybe it's just me. I'm guessing the intention was to make it look "mean" from the front; but to me, it just looks like an elephant took a moment to sit on the very front of the hood.

I'm sorry, but even though I've been a GM guy for most of my driving life, it looks like I'm going to have to look elsewhere for my next mid-range sports car.

    Hi everyone,

I am in the market for a new camaro but unfortunately as everyone knows this car is in short supply in dealerships due to its high demand. I have only seen them from the outside but have yet to sit or drive one. I don't feel comfortable pre-ordering a car that I have never driven or sat in. It's like buying a house before stepping foot in one and inspecting it thoroughly. I'm on a quest to test drive one before I place a pre-order with a dealership. My big question is: Does anyone know if there can be any haggling on the price for a pre-ordered vehicle? The sales guy was drilling me with the fact that pre-orders can only be placed at MSRP only. Any truth to this?
  • yh8myssyh8myss Member Posts: 17
OK boys and girls, here it is... And this is only an opinion of a VERY satisfied Camaro owner....I got my Camaro a few days ago and it is AMAZING! Red Jewel Tint, 19's in front- 20's in the back- HOT car! This car is VERY nice to drive, alot of muscle, and I've had complete strangers ask if they can take photos of my car. The car is solid, handles incredibly, and I'm averaging 20.3mpg in the city with the 6speed manual. I have absolutely no problem with visibility. Backing up or seeing my blind spots is no problem for me. Adjust the mirrors and just drive! My wife was always concerned about the ride. My Mustang GT(that I had 'back-in-the-day') was too rough for her and she was anticipating a rough ride from the Camaro. Her first words from her first ride were, "WOW, It's a really smooth ride, and quiet, too." She loves the car.(SCORE!) To me, it invites you to drive. The seats are designed to keep you upright in the tight corners, but the car doesn't role! You have to really work hard to get the car 'upset', and the grip is amazing! I was concerned about how the car would drive in heavy, stop-n-go-traffic, Unreal! 426hp, 6-speed manual, and it's SO easy to drive-especially in the city. I've never been a person that was committed to particular brand of vehicle. I've owned multiple brands of cars and trucks, I guess I figure that every brand will have the good, the bad, and the WTF! As long as the longevity of the car plays out(which depends greatly on how you maintain your vehicles), I will be exremely happy with this car. We have a Jeep and a new Durango, so my plan was to have my'play car' on the side. Scratch that.
Not every detail is perfect, by far. The light switch is somewhat hidden by the steering wheel. My, my.. Once I quickly dicovered it, set it to auto, problem solved. I didn't get the B.A. stereo system. My stereo plays one disc at a time! oh, you can only play one at a time on ANY stereo system...I kinda like the XM satelite anyway. I'll have to start a "Replace the Pirellis" fund, but that's just part of owning a hot-rod.
For anyone out there contemplating the purchase of the car, Drive it.. I haven't driven an automatic or the 6 cylinder, but I've driven mine alot in a small amount of time. It's fun, it's smooth, and it's got the power.
I know not everyone likes the car. Some say don't buy the first year one comes out. Well, I figured that GM has been working on this for long enough to puy out a decent car. It's a hybrid of existing technology(successful technology i.e.Vette, Caddy, etc.). The prices will probably go up, not down. I now have a publicly acknowledged, government backed 5-year-100,000 mile warranty. Anyone can find faults with just about anything, but if you read this, maybe you'll give it a drive and see for yourself. :)

    Hey,

Totally enjoyed reading your post on the Camaro. Very nice indeed. I'm just wondering what your experience was with the purchase of the car? Any info?
  • yh8myssyh8myss Member Posts: 17
When I went in back in March, I had my design already completed thru the Chevy web-site, so I knew what I wanted and I had an approximate $$$ figure that I would try to stay within. I sat down with the salesperson and had to do the same design on their computer, the total amount of the car was off by about $100-$200, so I was OK with that. There were no dealer incentives, mark-downs, nothing.... Anyway, I was given approximately 10-12 weeks before the car would be built and delivered. About 6 weeks into my wait, my dealership had the unveiling of their first Camaro. I went, and they had started adding a $5000 mark-up on their orders. After a 'discussion', it was determined that previous orders would be excempt from the mark-up. You can find dealers that aren't adding any mark-up, so check around. You may even find a car that has been ordered, and the person that orders it can't finance, or for some reason decides not to wait so long(definately expect a 3month wait). Check around, be patient, and you might find a good deal. Right now, the dealerships are selling the day some cars hit the lot, so shop around if you can.

    Camarokrayz,

Where do you live? Do you happen to be in the SoCal area? If so, I work for a street team that promotes the Camaro -- basically we take the car out and let people check it out (sit in it, not drive it, sorry!) and tell them all about the vehicle with no sales pressure -- we're product specialists who work for a marketing company, not a dealership. We'll be out with the car again in 2 weekends and I'd be happy to let you know where we're going to be once I get our location list and you can come check out the car for yourself. :)

As for haggling on price, I don't think you're going to be able to do that. There were thousands upon thousands of pre-orders on this car and some people waited 18 months to take delivery (some are STILL waiting!) and I would imagine you'd be hard-pressed to find a dealer to go under MSRP on a car that's selling that well and when people are trying to get their hands on them any way they can. I'd be willing to bet people would pay a few thousand more if they could take delivery now and bypass the wait. We don't really work with pricing other than to say what the car starts at and some points in between, that's really the job of the dealer, but I have seen on the Camaro5 forums that some dealers (at their discretion, and this IS negotiable) are adding a $5k "fair market value" to the car. Truthfully, I was at a dealership a couple weekends ago and was really surprised by how much less a fully loaded 2SS was compared to what I expected it to be.

    Best of luck to you!
  • camarokrayzcamarokrayz Member Posts: 4
Thanks for the information. I live in Anaheim and a dealership that I inquired at in Upland had the Camaro I was looking for. They had it priced at $40k pluse the "5K fair market value" on it. So also adding taxes and other misc. fees we're talking about a car that's worth $50k? I think its just dumb for anyone to pay that price. Considering that GM went bankrupt, they're still jacking up the price on these cars, hmmm? Yeah I know, I know the demand of this car sets the value at where its at but c'mon give me a break that's just ridiculous. I'm still looking around, but I'm not giving up yet. I would LIKE to drive one instead of sitting in one but seems very bleak at this point. Thanks again for the info.

In response to: FYI - The 2010 Camaro was modeled after the 1969 model.

Yes, I was aware of Chevy's intentions in creating the new Camaro; it's just too bad the execution wasn't quite there. I just found the perfect picture to illustrate what I mean; the link is below. Note the majestic lines of the '69 model, particularly the front grill; then compare that to the squashed looking grill area of the nose on the new model. All they needed to do was widen the height of the grill by a few inches, while getting rid of some of the unnecessary plastic below the grill, and they'd have really had something. Of course, as I stated previously, this is only my opinion (and that of at least one other person on this forum). Anyway, here's the link; judge for yourself..."

IMHO, the New Camaro is a perfect car to model as a futuristic style. Of course, I would not drive most future cars, as they are impractical. The New Camaro suffers some of the same ills of the New Challenger. FAT, is one word which comes to mind, it is simply too much everything. It is too heavy, too wide, too tall, too large wheels, too fat A pillar, with too tall door sills, making for a small window area, and a claustrophobic interior. Overall, the look is very nice. If I was only looking at it on the floor of a showroom at a World Car Show, no doubt, it is impressive.

A wonderful V6engine, with 6 speed automatic or stick, the drivetrain is the right stuff. Make it look like the original, stop playing to the kids with monster wheels, loose some weight, a couple of feet in length, and a half foot in width, and give her some glass area, and I think it is a real winner. Alas, Government Motors doesn't care about what I think, and they may be right. If they can get people to pay over sticker for a car manufacturer by a company in bankruptcy, with a 100 year history of troubled first and second year new model cars, I say go for it. In Santa Maria i saw a side sticker of $7,500 for some lucky sucker to pay -- whoo-hoo, or yippee!

The Ford Mustang is the truest to a Pony Car, with a little less fat and pretty clean lines, which make it look lower. The Camaro and Challenger look like they have an extra 6" of skirt now to them. Looks like the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a real winner. Pretty good over the left shoulder views to pass, some actual glass area, and thus you do not feel like sitting in a bathtub. The lines are crisp, and almost new -- well a bit Infinity G37, but with a little more racy look. If I went Pony car, it would be Stang for 2010, and the Hyundai is also interesting. :shades:

Been away from the site for a few days. Out enjoying the ride... I was interested in reading all of the posts, and I felt that this post needed a response.... I know everyone has their own opinions, and I respect that, but the fact is that the 2010 SS Camaro has a height of 54.2 in. The 2010 Mustang GT has a height of 55.6 in. The Mustang is actually taller than the Camaro. The length of the Camaro is 190.4 in. The Mustang GT-188.1 in. A 2.3 in. difference. The width of the Camaro is 75.5 in. The Mustang-73.9 in. Another 2 in. difference.
I have two good friends that live on my street, one owns a Challenger RT, one owns a Mustang GT. I've driven the Challenger, and I've ridden in the 'Stang. NEITHER of those cars can touch my Camaro. Mine looks better, runs better, sounds better, and you couldn't give me both of those cars for my Camaro. The guy that owns the Mustang actually stopped by my place to ask if he could take pictures of my car.
Ever driven a Porsche? How about a Vette? 350Z? Ever wondered why there is little room inside? They're sports cars, they go fast. They aren't SUV's. I've never had an issue with visibility, nor has the weight of the car been an issue. Especially when I smoke an RT or a GT.
I think aerodynamics could have played a part in the size of the windows. I mean, I could sit up alittle higher, have more glass to see through, so I can watch people drive-off and leave me in the dust. Might as well by a Volkswagon so you have more glass and less skirt. Oh yeah, the skirt kinda gives your car some downforce, helps with handling and blazin' around tight curves. To sum it up: DO NOT BUY A CAMARO if you want an SUV, station wagon, or you need extra glass to see through. The SS is a hot-rod with great gas mileage and it likes to go fast. PERIOD.

Well, park a new Camaro next to an older one, and you will see what I mean. It is like you take the older model, then add on another six inches to the bottom section. I suppose it better accommodates the larger wheels these days. Inside, you feel more confined than in a Miata. The extra thick A pillar, and the enormous door sill height leave you sitting inside the bath tub, with little glass area, much like the 350Z or 370Z. The Porsche and Vette front and side views seem a lot better to me, as does the roominess - feel at the least is better. As Pony cars go, I agree it is not too much larger than the New Stang, but the New Stang is already feeling the super-sized movement over the years. Car should be getting lighter, and not heavier. Light is more toss-able for handling, and you be kinder on the brakes, tires, while going even faster. Buy skirt, I mean to say, it has some added lower bulk - nothing to do with down force. As for blazin' around tight turns, I guess so - take your word on that one. Usually on a race track the Miata does that, then the Camaros scream up and pass on straightaways - good muscle. They do have the good engine(s) and drive-train,& good gas mileage, which is better than the current Ford. Still, I think I will look for more of a sports car. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is pretty good - balanced looks, performance and roominess / inside feel, with enough glass area and over the left shoulder view for passing. And for Pony, still like the bit smaller, and less fat look, Stang. A Corvette would be nice too. Of course for steering feel, and true sports car engaged drive, the Miata still shines. Then there is the BMWZ4 & Porsche Boxter, if you don't mind supporting Germany come repair time = ouch! Anyway - agreed, Camaro goes fast, looks good, has great gas mileage. Have fun with your new Camaros, guys and gals, and be safe on the public roadways across this great land of ours. Race on the track. :shades:

I remember when my brother had his '83 Z28, what a sweet ride that was. Fast forward 26 years and i finally get a SS. Wow is the first word that comes to mind everytime i see her. RJT is such an awesome color, at least that's what people tell everywhere i go. Fact is i can't go anywhere without getting the compliments, and folks taking pictures. A real conversation piece i am coming to find out. A car that brings people together, and make them feel good just looking at it. Hey, i call it as i see it and the Camaro is doing just that. See ya on the roads peeps... for tomorrows ride i think i'll cruise down Woodward Ave.

Good taste! We have the same ride. Did you get the 6-speed? Feels like everyone is checking the ride out every time you go out. Oh, wait, they ARE checking it out. I had a guy come up to me and tell me the car looked like a four-seater-Vette. I kinda liked that description. Anyway, saw your ride and wanted to give you props

Was wondering if anyone was able to buy a LS or LT without pre-ordering and at MSRP (or better)? Or is pre-ordering (or paying way above MSRP) the only way to get them right now?

    I am in SoCal. Thanks.

I'm selling my 08 335i in a few days. Its refined drive and generous low end torque will be missed dearly.

My plan was to purchase a cheaper car till this economy gets better. The idea was to get a reliable car with good resale, so that I could sell it in a year or two and get the next version 3 series. :) Now, after finding out about this new Camaro..looks like I'll be spending a little bit more than and I've forgotten all about reliability and resale.. :shades: I'll still be lookin to spend less than a 3series, and yet getting a really cool car! I'd bet this Camaro will have very good resale value too. I'm a bit weary about reliablity though.

Over the past week, I test driven the latest versions of MazdaSpeed3, Mazda3, and Honda Civic Si. In a nutshell, MS3 still has torque steer. I felt it had too much hp for its FWD and chasis abilities. Mazda3 is probably the most sensible.. and the Si offers a more entertaining engine that tries very hard in vain to overshadow its anemic torque curve. I can easilly see how an Si can get tiring fast. Oh God, I almost pulled the trigger on the Si this afternoon. Paperwork was ready and everything! Thank goodness I didn't!!!

It's funny, until tonight, I've been totally unaware of this new Camaro! I guess, I was pretty content with my 335. Now that I'm selling the 335.. I just stumbled upon reviews of this new Camaro at Edmunds and now after a few hours of further net research..I'm absolutely amazed and excited at how much more this car offers! I mean, the V6 spanks the Si and even MS3 in torque and hp. The V8 is just amazing. The exhaust sounds incredible! This Camaro has a very tasteful style since it backs up an aggressive look with real performance. Ok, it's more macho muscle than BMW's business suit look but I'm very pleased with the overall visual experience the Camaro offers. The SS version is a bargain.. far less than a typical $45k 335i..and $60k M3. I'll be test driving the SS version tomorrow and I can hardly wait! I don't expect the Camaro to be as refined nor as nimble as a BMW..I just expect it to be more fun than an Si, which I'm sure it will be, and have decent handling capability. Sure I know an Si is a full $10k cheaper than the SS, but even the LT offers more torque than the Si.

I'm very pleased, finally, at the real prospects of buying an American car. I can't wait till tomorrow. I hope they're not hicking up prices and that inventory is good since I'll need to buy in the next few days.
