Exactly my experience. The dealer IS saying the bracket can't be safely replaced. The "Customer Service" (haha) reps at Isuzu disagree and are saying the repair CAN be done. This is where I'm stuck. How did you get Isuzu (not the dealer) to agree that it couldn't be fixed? And how long/many phone calls back'n'forth did it take?
They actually gave you the KBB Private Party value? That's at least a little bit of good news.

Tell the dealer to put them on once they try and it cant be done then the dealer calles Isuzu corp and then you get a call from Jim at Isuzu and they make you the offer of kelly blue book just play then game. I have not agreed yet I probly will today

They went on to fix the trailing arm on my car and in the process my gas tank brackets break off. Which Terry at isuzu tells me they can't be fixed or replaced! I have also filed complaints with the BBB, Attorney general, NHTSA and I also sent a letter to a lawyer about a class action suit.

The shotty repair job they are trying to do to these car's are stupid! You can't wield to rust!

My wife's 2001 Rodeo had a frame rot & trailing arm bracket mount failure in April 2009. I had repairs made after an Isuzu dealer told me the truck was out of warranty, but files a complaint with NHTSA the day of occurance. We recently received the recall info & have submitted a claim for reimbursement. Time will tell how it goes.

I had a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo which needed a fuel pump. My mechanic said I should not put money into repairs due to extensive corrosion to the frame. He said the car was too dangerous to drive. Instead I opted to make the repair and had the frame welded. The welding cost $530. One month later I hit a deer and totaled the car. Within a few weeks I received a letter from Isuzu saying my vehicle had a defect causing extensive corrosion to the frame and to take it to a dealer for a repair or, if I had already made the repair, apply for a rebate. I sent all pertinent information, including the diagnosis from two mechanics, the bill and receipt from the welding shop, and a letter from the insurance company that the car was totaled. (I did not have collision and received no compensation for the loss). Now Isuzu says I do not qualify for the rebate because I no longer own the car, even though I paid for a repair that was their fault. Where can I go from here? I've had 2 Rodeos and would NEVER buy one again!

I cannot believe your attitude. Yes, most of us have owned our Rodeo's for a long time. We paid good money for them and have taken care of them for many years. How dare you call us "whining babies" when you owned yours for only one year and and got $800.00 more than what you paid for it.
Where is the justice in that? In my opinion you should have gotten
    nothing!

OMG I just found this website because I am having so many problems with my 2001 which I purchased in Dec of 09. My fuel gauge is messing up and I also received the recall letter about the rusted frame damage. I am going to take me vehicle in to see if it can be repaired. How did you get them to pay you Kelly Blue Book cause I have also been told that my vehicle has frame damage and lots of rusting.
  • marinesmommarinesmom Member Posts: 15
They haven't paid me kelly blue book value or any other amount. They keep holding me off for some reason. They went to repair the trailing arm and broke the gas tank brackets off, which can't be replaced because they no longer make them. I have been fighting this for two years now. My trailing arm broke off my car christmas eve 2009. I had just dropped my daughter off at home (thank goodness) And was going to finish up some last min shopping. My car started swerving out of control and almost flipped forward, I got it stopped in time. To find out what the problem was. it's sat in my driveway until January 4th 2011 when they recalled it.

It's been sitting at the isuzu dealer repair shop since January 4th and they refuse to tell me anything. All I get are excuses. So I filed claims with BBB, Carsafety.org, the attorney general, and anyone else that would listen. I just recieved a letter from BBB and they are very interested in my case. So I'll be mailing all the pictures, conversation documents etc to them this week. Enough is enough! 2 years fighting and I still have not gone away nor will I until I get a fair offer.

If not for all of us "whining babies" who have fought Honda and Isuzu for years, written letters, posted on the internet, shared info, posted forms for others to copy and fill out, and all that we have done so that non-whining babies like you could recoup your losses on these vehicles, where would you be today in regards to your vehicle? And then you, who probably has sat on your butt and done nothing except complain, post a comment like that? Who do you think is responsible for the fact that you got more than you paid for, for your vehicle? US. Who do you think pushed for the recall on these vehicles? US. So, punkguy1978, I am glad that was your last post. Take their money and run with your tail between your little legs. Let the rest of us continue to push forward for a full recall on the frame. You got your money, no need to post here ever again. Yes, I bought mine Honda new, in 1998, paid $28,000, thinking that I was buying a Honda, in good faith. Didn't find out until later it was an Isuzu. That was info the Honda dealership didn't bother to share with us. I have been fighting with Honda since 2009. I have spent hours on the phone with Honda, local dealers, have been on TV about this, written to the A.G., BBB, NHTSA, spoke to Derek Reinhardt, and I posted the letter from Derek Reinhardt which was instrumental in many people being able to be included in the recall. So don't call me a whiny baby. I worked hard for everyone who owns one of these vehicles, even if you don't appreciate my efforts, you still got a check because of what I and many others have done for YOU. If not for us, you would be without a car and without a check. Instead of posting a ridiculous message like you did, you should be showing a bit of gratitude for what we have done for you. So, cash your check and perhaps do your homework before you buy your next vehicle. After all, when you bought your Rodeo 1 year ago, we were YEARS into the fight.

The worse part of it all is that people find these posts after their vehicle fails. Then they start looking around on the internet and stumble across Edmunds and other sites. If only people who are still driving these dangerous vehicles could be made aware before their vehicle fails....because sooner or later, there are going to be fatalities. Which also tells me that many people haven't been included in the recall, for whatever reason, so they are driving these vehicles with rusted out frames, completely unaware of the danger they and their families and other drivers are facing. When my Passport failed 2 years ago, and I started looking on the internet, I found posts that were 3-4 years old about the frame rust. But I, like everyone else, had no reason to look for this problem until it affected me. Had I know years earlier, who knows what we could have done in time to prevent what eventually happened.
And that is the worse part of all.

Haven't had an opportunity to get my rodeo inspected yet but had to repair frame for inspection and then replace bracket a few months later. Then I got the recall. I sent copies of invoices and my cancelled checks for reimbursement. Got a letter today saying that they have no proof that the repairs that I did were part of the recall. Like I am going to replace a rusted out frame and a bracket that broke in half for no reason.Have an appointment next week for inspection, but I think that Isuzu is going to give me the run around. Has anyone else received money for repairs that they did before the recall?
  • knp412knp412 Member Posts: 17
I have not got my money yet been jumping thru hoops and now waiting for one more person to call me and meet at the dealer to give me the check but i have to sign a w9 which this does not quillfy for a w9 so when i file my taxes next year they will get a fine for filing wrongful w9s
  • bbrown55bbrown55 Member Posts: 16
Yes, we had the work done two years ago and we did send it all to Isuzu and they called and we had to go to through two inspections and then a certification that the inspection met the criteria and I was very doubtful and called and waited on hold many times....and we got our $1500. check for the work we paid for...:) very happy - sold the darn car and now we are FREE of Isuzu! So hang in there and keep on them and go to the inspection...we had documented everything - pictures before the repair, pictures after the repair...the Isuzu dealership in NH said we had covered more than all our basis - and we had done a better job on our "fix" than the job they would have done...so glad we went this way. Just document, and call - send it all certified mail - always have names.....over do on the details...

First off,I formerly sold these at 2 dealerships, and used to love these trucks, and so did the wife. Our 99 got recalled, was found to be stage 5. It sat at the dealer for between 3-4 weeks.Today I got the call. They asked for a copy of the buyers order ,since we bought it from a used lot back in November.I faxed it to them.20 minutes later they called and said they would pay us what we paid for it,which was $1500.I also put $800 in it upon purchasing it to weld 1 side ,4 tires, battery, etc. to get it ready for winter for my wife. They claimed they only refunded what it showed I paid,Other stuff meant nothing, accorfing to them...So I asked them ,what if I bought the twin to it at Furey Jeep in Malvern,Ohio, that was in the paper for $6999?...Say I got it for $5k...would I get all my $5k back?..He said he couldnt answer that.He also stated that the retail value of a successful recall installation is $1500,and that they have the choice to fix it,or when not applicable, then 2 pay $1500.KBB fair value is $2650.and good is$3225. The fact that I paid $1500 shouldnt matter,I think...isnt based on the current value?...The sure arent paying people what they paid for it if purchased at a retail new car franchise are they? Thanks.

By the way,the dealer,Ganley, was great.TV5 in Cleveland did a story on this last Friday, and showed all the Rodeos lined up,mine included waiting to be crushed. The dealer and the service mgr was fine...it is getting a fair shake from Isuzu that is a problem.
  • used2loveemused2loveem Member Posts: 12
Signed it,and emailed Derek about this situation..This is just morally and probably illegal that I suzu is lowballing people as to the value of the vehicles. It is not our fault their frames and suspension pieces are falling apart!

We had the Isuzu Rodeo 4 years. We maintained it with great care.
With the understanding ::: from Isuzu when the initial claim was filed::
that if the car was not fixable there would be some remedy.
Speaking with Isuzu yesterday, they will offer nothing for the car.
It is not safe. It can't be sold. Isuzu has essentially left the building, leaving car dealerships and customers holding the bag. I don't know about the rest of you, I don't have an extra $6000.00 to throw away. Isuzu says that any further repairs to the frame are my responsibility. The car is so dangerous that the people in the body shop would not drive it across the street from their shop. I have that on tape. By Ohio law, the car is supposed to be road worthy or the manufacturer is supposed to replace it or give you monetary compensation. Isuzu offered me nothing.
They don't care. Now I have a car that is unsellable, un-safe, uninsurable,
sitting in a car lot. The Mechanics want the car off their lot. To take this to court will cost me more than the car is worth. We need a Federal Class Action Suit. State laws on this vary too much. People are driving death machines. Any suggestions for contacts or any help at all would be
greatly appreciated. The Isuzu claims representative simply didn't care.
    Isuzu has left the building.

Its sad this has happened to these vehicles, but what is worse is the blase (sp?) attitude the reps have that we talk to at Isuzu about this.Ford handled their recall with grace and fairness, and so did Toyota on the Tacomas buyback couple years back,as I know because I hauled a couple hundred into Ganley Toyoat in Akron...I think the main reason here is because Isuzu is essentiall y gone, other than the commercial truck market. The NHSTA needs to step in,IMO,and mandate that the give people at least KBB fair or NADA trade value.I bought mine cheap cause it need some welding and tires, starter, battery, etc, but when I was done it was fine.....then 3 months later the rear snapped and took out the brake line.Lucky my wife was injured or anything!

We have a 98 Rodeo. The kelly blue book is 4500. and Jim at Isuzu is only offering $1022 - take it or leave and we have till Friday to decide. It is a beautiful SUV and runs great and had planned to drive it many more years. What can or should we do? $1000 will not replace this.

If that's correct: "By Ohio law, the car is supposed to be road worthy or the manufacturer is supposed to replace it or give you monetary compensation. " then you need to talk to your state AG's office pronto.

I just got "the call" from Impartial Service Group that somebody else will be calling me in 3-5 days to do the exchange of paperwork for my check. I am confused about the w-9 that needs to be filled out as well. Is this saying I MADE money on my rodeo that I will be taxed on, because I actually LOST money.
    Anybody have any insight?

You mentioned ABS lights being on... would that be on 1998 and 1999 Rodeos/Passports that had the ABS Coil Integrated Modules replaced in a recall in the USA in 2003-2004?
  • maritimeajsmaritimeajs Member Posts: 5
You mentioned that your ABS light is on... did you have the recall on your ABS "Coil Integrated Module" done back in 2003-2004?

I bought my vehicle with a blown engine. I had to spend months of my time and money getting it rebuilt only to find out after driving it for a week that my frame was about to fall apart. It was as my service advisor had discribed "the worst he had seen." Now because I did not pay top dollar for my vehicle I am going to be getting screwed. I worked for toyota when they recalled the tacomas. I am working for ford now while the windstars are being recalled at a rate of 150% of blue book retail value. Why are we getting the shaft from a company that before now I would have placed above ford.

I am interested in the lawsuit. I bought my 2001 Rodeo a little over a year ago for a little over $4k. Now they offer me $1600 for my daily driver that has nothing wrong with it, with the exception of the rusted rear frame connection being broke. Im stuck with an inoperable truck with not enough money to purchase a vehicle in the same running condition. If they would have at least offered $3k, I would have considered that to be fair. Now I would rather they just fix the truck and keep that change.
  • crowmackcrowmack Member Posts: 1
ABSOLUTELY, SOMETHING ALREADY HAS HAPPENED. THE FRAME ON YOUR VEHICLE IS CORRODING SO SEVERELY AND PREMATURELY THAT WHEN IT DOES FAIL...YOU MIGHT NOT BE HERE TO FILE THE COMPLAINT. THEY LOWER LINK BRACKET IS A JOKE AND IS A WAY OF ISZUZU TRYING TO DOWNPLAY THE REAL AND MORE COSTLY DEFECT: THE FRAME...PLEASE KEEP FIGHTING OR WE WILL ALL TAKE THE LOSS WHEN IT SHOULD BE THEM
  • me11yme11y Member Posts: 1
I have yet to get my Rodeo in for an appointment (next Thursday). I don't think they will be able to install the reinforcement bracket as the rear frame looks pretty bad and has holes in it. I also don't think this dealer I am bringing it to has dealt with this recall yet because they seemed like..we repair it if it's necessary.
I am concerned that if they are trying to repair it and need to take bolts and parts of, they might not be able to get it all back together and then what....
I am not going to pay for any extra parts. If they are offering me money for my Rodeo, I don't think it will be enough to get a car with that in the same running condition. If it wasn't for the frame I am pretty sure everything else would still run for a few more years.
  • ponesskponessk Member Posts: 1
I'm late to the party here - I cosigned on a 2001 Rodeo Sport S for my daughter last year. We still owe $4,500 on the car, but just yesterday experienced the rusting frame issue. We're told by Isuzu that this particular model (the 2-door) isn't covered by the recall even though it's the IDENTICAL issue described in the recall description! We filed a complaint with the NHTSA and with our state's Attorney General's office (and requested mediation). Right now, we are stuck with an unrepairable junk car that we can do absolutely nothing with until the debt is satisfied. I can't believe how angry I am about this. Does anyone else have the model that isn't covered, but has suffered the same problem? The two people we spoke with at Isuzu honestly could not have cared less about our plight.

Hey there, well, I got the recall notice in the mail for my frame rot as well.
To give a little education on me: I am a Senior master mechanic with 29 years experience under my belt, and am very familiar with what you are talking about.
about 6 months ago I experienced the left top rear shock mount rotting off the frame, and the shock blowing a hole on the rear floor above it. The frame I had discovered was rusting enough I could not fabricate and weld a new mount back on the frame. so I removed the shock for the time being so it would not cause any more damage to the vehicle. I do steel fabricating as a hobby, so I was thinking of a resolution to the problem. While thinking about it I get this recall notice in the mail. So I think GREAT!!! The factory has had these problems, and has come up with a solution and is going to fix this issue, right? Hell no, dead wrong!! I call them and they tell me the recall covers the rear lower control arm mounts only... Hummmm well I asked them what about the rest of the frame? The only rust on the frame is the rear upper shock mounts and the upper coil spring mounts, and the frame cross bars, the side rails seem to be pretty sound, just surface rust and no holes. They insulted me by saying I didn't even know what I was talking about at all to take it to a qualified isuzu dealer, and that they would not cover the issues I just described. They told me they have never even heard of such an issue. SO I did some snooping around and have looked at other rodeos weather they are 2 or 4 door didn't matter and about the same years as my 2 rodeos I have ( 98, and 99). some had the exact same rust issues, some didn't have any at all. turns out they were built 2 differant places up north and out west. My wifes 99 was built out west, and of course mine was built up north. The only ones that have the issue are the ones from up north never out west. An none of them had control arm mount issues. They told me under no circumstances will they cover my issue at all. Hummm well after all the Rodeos I looked at , about 150 of them, not one had control arm mount issues at all, all the ones from up north had the exact issues I have now. SO I gave up on the As* H**es, and fabricated new, heavier duty upper shock mounts drilled the frame and bolted them on, and now have to fabricate upper spring mounts for it as well. There is a little modification I had to make to make this work but it will work very well and out last the truck.
SO Yes to answer you, I too was treated with disrespect and am stuck with a P.O.S. from Isuzu, and has left a very sour taste in my mouth since this happened!
Rich, A.S.E. Master certified Auto mechanic, and of course more than qualified than most of those Isuzu geeks to do any repairs. :)

Where did you find that they were built in two different plants? All the info I found says that Isuzu only had one manufacturing facility in Lafayette, Indiana.

This is probably it, but you could call and ask:

    Isuzu Motors America, LLC

Some states require arbitration, so you may want to ask about that too:

    BBB Auto Line

My 2001 Rodeo was in excellent condition, I bought it new and took good care of it, loved it so much really never wanted to part with it. I had no idea about this rust problem until.....my son was using it with his 3 year old son in the back when it just broke in two. If he had been going over 25 mph he may have been injured or killed. I had just received the letter 2 days prior and was making arrangements to take it into the dealer (75 miles away). It had to be towed, it cannot be fixed at all and I got a call from Izuzu telling me they will send me a check for $2860 and I sign off on all claims, give them the title and registration and they will crush it. They told me everybody is getting the same amount and I just wonder what my options are? I can not possibly buy a car of any sort for that and being a retired woman on fixed income I have no idea what I am going to do. Has anybody been contacted yet and would you think we could negotiate the amount?
  • nhrodeonhrodeo Member Posts: 6
I too bought my 2001 rodeo new and was given 2700.00 when it also broke in half....many people were given much less. They said they offered me more since I had owned it so long. Sorry to say this, but there really aren't a lot of options available....I also lived my rodeo and would still be driving it if I were able to. Good luck...
  • maritimeajsmaritimeajs Member Posts: 5
It seems that everyone who is offered a buyback is offered something different. You may be able to get more specific numbers on the facebook page about this recall.
  • brokenpartsbrokenparts Member Posts: 1
they said that my 2001 Rodeo was not able to be repaired and pics were sent to the main headquarters, so I called them today and they said that they were in the process of doing whatever it is they do, I have not received an offer as of yet but I don't have to tell you or anyone else with this issue how pissed off I will be if the offer is 1500 to 2000 , I still owe 4000 on it and i'm telling ya right now there is no way I am going to eat up the cost of what I owe + another 2000 for a down payment on another car + the hassle and gas + the extra mileage put on my wife's car , the list goes on and on all because they FKED up. I am all about joining this little class action and i believe we should post this all over Facebook and any other means of getting people on our side.$6000 is Just fair , that gives people enough to pay off their car , if not all at least a good portion and be able to put something down for another car. obviously for this to happen Isuzu needs to step up especially if they ever want me to consider ever buying another Isuzu . Oh and the dealership that has my car is an hour away so...yeah.
  • nhrodeonhrodeo Member Posts: 6
As much as it sucks, Isuzu doesn't care since they're not in the car-selling market anymore. I got 2700.00 for my 2001 and that was good compared to other offers I saw on here. Wish you the best with yours...
  • ronlettsronletts Member Posts: 1
Could you give a short rundown of how it works. I just "lost" my Isuzu to the dealership a couple of days ago. And was told that they would be contacting me for a buyback with no specifics. How long does this process take and what does it involve? How long does it take to get the check. I can't seem to find this info anywhere if you could please enlighten me and others I'd appreciate it. I need to know how long I'm going to be waiting. And yes I did try to call Isuzu corp myself. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi! I am new to this mess. Just found out last week that there was a recall on my passport. found out when I went to put on a muffler and was told it was condemned. Honda took it from me and made it impossible to drive. I would be interested in talking to your friend because they are telling me that they will not give me what I paid for it, but the kelley blue book private party "good" amount. This is about $2500 less than it is worth. Would just like to have what it would cost me to replace it with a comparable car. I loved the car and am not going to be able to afford to buy an suv that can compare at what they are giving me. They told me that this was the only deal they are offering across the board, but you said they were giving your friend what he paid for it. I did go to a lawyer to see what my rights are and am interested in a suit. We should get amounts to cover what the replacement of the vehicles would be so that we can replace like for like.

Hi! did you find your info? I just started the process also. I had to give up my car last Thursday. Friday I received a call from Honda. They said that they are only offering the Kelley blue book or the black book whchever is highest, for the private party amount. This is quite a bit lower than the retail amount, and is about 2500 less than it is worth in my case. I did receive a rental car which I am thankful for and I love it. It makes giving up my car harder because I know that with what they are giving me I will only be able to afford a junky car, when I had a luxury suv. I am really upset and went to a lawyer today.
  • andigoandigo Member Posts: 7
what amount did they tell you? They told me the kelley blue book private amount was all they were going to give.
    thanks

My understanding is that stage 4 is beyond repair. they should offer you a settlement pretty quickly, but they are only giving kelley blue book for private sale only, or so they told me. I am trying to find out if anyone else got more for theirs. Totally not fair.
