This is a real serious problem!!! I recently bought a 2008 Acadia in November 2011. I am sorry to say that I too am experience not just a leak this is running water. I didn't realize what the horrible smell that we were smelling in April, the smell of horrible eggs, and mildew. The bad part is I have started having terrible asthma attacks. Well this is because there is mildew under the carpet in the front driver and passengers side. I am now suffering with a terrible sinus infection and have had constant asthma attacks from the fact that it keeps raining in my vehicle. We have cleaned the mold taken it to the shop and they told us that the problem was fixed, I am contantly itching and feeling sick when I get in the vehicle. due to my health and these people are telling me that they will try to see what they can do. I have called a lawyer and I am also going to call 7 on your side. I have my doctors letters and pictures of the mold and water. I mean business and GMC is going to have to do something about this problem. I have also printed every site which talks about the leak including this one dated back from Aug 2009.

    Good morning duvill,

I'm glad to hear that your dealership has been so accommodating through this process, but I'm sorry that you have had to go in multiple times to try and resolve the leaking concern to no avail. It looks as though a very good offer has already been made to you, but if you would like for us to check into this further we can be reached at socialmedia@gm.com

I had a 2007 GMC ACADIA with sunroof leaking troubles and after useless service at the dealer and useless help from GM customer service, I trade for a new 2011 and NOT SUNROOF. Customer service call me back almost 3 month after I called them to ask me what was the status in the car, the dealer did not want to take the car no more for repair, they even paid and ouside contractor and they couldnt fixed. If you have the money GET RID OF THE CAR. Dealer City Buick, Toronto, Canada

I have a 5 month old 2012 Acadia that has leaked on me 3 times. First time they told me that the moisture build up on the window, on the inside, is normal! Really? Great feature. Leaked a second time through sun roof and from the parking brake, again they found nothing. Today a rush of water, that i was able to hear, came pouring in through the moon roof in the back and down the side walls, building up in the lens covers of the ceiling lights, my sun roof, my drivers side sun visor. I have had it with this 5 month vehicle. GMC says they have no reports of this in the 2012 model. Lucky me, im the first

There is a high probability of mold infestation in your vehicle. I'd seriously consider dumping the vehicle either by selling it or via lemon law. After three leaks you shouldn't be driving that vehicle.

no way you are the first, I'm having the exact same issue exact same spots, and the dumb part is warranty doesn't cover water leaks. There has to be reoccuring problem because I know at least three other owners with this issue......no coinsidence. I love this suv but would like to have one leak free.

I have a Waterleak in my 07 and the not so nice GMC rep in the Phillipines hung up the phone on me. The water leak damaged my fuse box and the alternator went at the same thing. I feel like I wasted my money buying the Acadia.

Oh wow! That's terrible! We have a 2012 with a sunroof and it has never leaked. If you can pinpoint where you think the leak is coming from they will be more likely to fix it. You can look all along the vehicle for any gaps in the seals.
  • lovegmc1lovegmc1 Member Posts: 37
Thank you for all the information! We have a 2012 that hasn't leaked a drop, but I am starting to worry if it will start! If it does, I will have many hoops to jump through apparently(and unfortunately)

Are these all 2012's??? This seems highly unlikely because they were leak-free since 2009. We have a 2012 with a sunroof and use it a lot, and have never had a leak, through numerous car washes and storms. Also, with all cars,(this was an issue with the old ones leaking, but the tubes were too short) the drainage tubes can get clogged with debris. Do you live in an area with a lot of dust or other sort? If it is the drainage tubes, you can have them cleaned of bockages. Hope this helps!

If GM isn't willing to handle this on a per customer basis and keep pretending like there is no problem, then how about a class action lawsuit against GM? I'm sure this is something the attorneys would love to get their hands on. I just had the sound to my stereo fail along with the turn signal and back up assist sound. This all after the eight leak repair atempts that did nothing. The dealer is now not returning my calls. I bet they're just as sick of the issue as I am. I am going over there right now to give them one more chance to remedy the situation and if they don't then it's time to make some noise!
  • ladyraczeeladyraczee Member Posts: 2
I agree, GM told me that they are not going to repair my radio, back up assistant light and all because the vehicle is out of warranty.

However, it is not our fault that the vehicle has this issue. they should fix the radio's and anything that was messed up as a result of the water damage.

    Hi,

After reading all of the posts on this topic, I am very discouraged. I too am experiencing this same problem with water leaking profusely. I vacuumed out over a gallon of water from the floor after a recent rainstorm. I have had this sent to the dealer 4 times so far and have another appointment for next week. They are doing everything they can to resolve, at no cost to me, even though the vehicle is well out of the factory warranty. It has 97k miles and otherwise is in very good condition. I certainly don't blame my local dealership but I do think that GM needs to own up to the problem. Suggestions are welcome on how I can get GM to take ownership and not put it off on my insurance company to solve.

Thank god i don't have a sunroof, or i would be having more problems. i bought a used 2010 from rental company and have had many problems since then. I first noticed that the Radio would not turn off when I opened the door, but correlated with the (condensation)water dripping being the gas petal. Then eventually the window locks were possessed by going up and down by themselves. This including the lights of ABS and engine lights going on and the truck wound accelerate. Dealer couldn't figure it out with all those CODES until I put the screw to them through calling up GMC directly. After a few days of looking at it, some wires were getting water on them and shorting. Funny they found out that the CB boot was messed up and guess what>>>> the bushing to the steering needed to be replaced. Since they fixed it, the truck doesn't have the major electrical problems, but when its humid and AC is running, the radio still wont turn off. Happened 2 times today. I get a banging sound or something in that Steering area and of course it wont reproduce when im at the dealer. I loose power steering if i brake and turn left medium hard into a parking space, that's something new and tells me that will be fixed at some point (im not paying for it)
Since reading this forum and knowing that there is a problem with the whole steering area, GMC/buick dealership and GM knows there is a major problem and there has not been enough deaths to have a recall yet. I can highly bet that all these recurring problems they are having with this truck (MPG, transmission, steering, sunroof leaking, drains) will be fixed in the newly redone model coming out in a few weeks.
I love the car and the Ride, and i told myself after my horrible Saturn experience i would never buy another GM Product. (My Honda Odyssey is 7 years old, 78k and replaced tires and brakes)

I have a 2007 Acadia. As soon as it came out I knew I wanted one, it was beautiful. We are a one income family so we obviously were not going to be able to afford a brand new one. I traded in my fully loaded GMC Envoy (which I loved) for my 2007 Acadia SLT. I gave up a few options but to have my "dream car" it was totally worth it to me. The excitement has been quickly fading though. I noticed right away the first time I cleaned my car that there was rust in places that concerned me. After every rain there was always a funky smell in the car but I hadn't noticed where the water would be coming from. I don't drive a lot especially since the kids had been in school for the first 6 months that we owned the vehichle so it was rare that I would actually be in the car when it was raining. Since school has been out we have been spending a lot more time in the car though and this is where we started to notice the problems. After loading everyone up and taking off to head to gymnastics the kids start screaming in the back that they were getting wet, I pulled over to see water streaming out of the DVD player and lights on the the roof soaking both kids! It poured rain the rest of the night and the next morning I went out to check the rest of the car out. The front floorboard were pooling with water under the mats and there was residual water leaking out of the entertainment system on the roof. It was a Sunday so the dealership service dept. was closed all I could do is open up all the doors and lay the mats out to dry. We got an appt. for that Wednesday to have the car checked at the local GM service dept. They were very accomodating, they set me up with a rental and my car was ready to be picked up later that same day. They said the sunroof drain tubes were cleaned out and they also had performed a recall on the low beams and I was good to go. Fast forward to Friday evening and it is pouring rain again, no signs of water from the roof this time but that usually doesnt show unless I am actually driving, but the front floor board are soaked again. During the rain I got in the car and could see water streaming down from under the dash on both sides. I called the service department again and have another appointment on Wednesday of this week but the service advisor said there wasnt really anything else he thought they could do but they would look at it again. He said they may refer me to a water specialist but he is over an hour away. I did a ton of research on this car before I bought it but apparently not quite enough. I love everything about my Acadia except of course this leak and the horrible horrible smell that comes with it. Now I am very concerned that there is mold and mildew in my vehichle since my 5 year old has severe asthma. I don't want my car to be a health hazard to her. I have been reading so many stories similar to mine and am starting to loose hope already, I have not yet seen one person say that the leak has been completely resolved.

I really wish I had seen this forum before buying my 2007 Acadia. It has been leaking since we bought it. The first time it happened we took it in to be fixed and it was still under warranty and the dealer didn't charge us. Then it kept leaking but we couldn't take the time out to go get it fixed until recently. The dealer wanted to charge us $250, but luckily we talked him out of it.

Now, we are having electrical issues. If I could afford to get rid of this car I would.

    Hi frzdawn,

I had the same problem about a year ago. I believe there is a recall that adds some splash covers in the wheel well area that block water from coming up onto the serpentine belt.

Thank you for responding. I just picked my Acadia up from the service dept. again today after having the rear sunroof seal replaced. The tech seemed satisfied that the issue is now resolved so I am hoping for the best and that I can begin enjoying my car again :)

Ok, I have to say...I loved my Acadia...up until about a month ago. In the past month it has been in the shop over 15 days! Got up one morning & it was dead...took forever to get jumped then service engine light came on. It would run after taking key out of ignition then chug till it would die & then not start again. So, I took it into the dealer. They had it for 4 days...after doing parasitic draw test & no findings I got car back at a total of about $300. That was new GM battery & test & labor to install battery. Why in the world is the battery located in floorboard of back passenger seat?! Anyway, got the car back & 2 days later my power steering fluid kept leaking out. I could fill it to max & within an hour or so it was empty! So back in the shop it went that took another 3 days & about $350. Got the car back & a week later the sunroof started leaking. Well, needless to say, a few days later the car would not start again and when we finally got it jumped I took it back to dealer. After 1 week of them having the car (they did give me a free loaner after day 2) they figured out the leak had gotten water all in my fuse block. So...at a cost of $2800.00 I can get my car repaired. That would fix the fuse block, repair leak & replace mildew carpet...After all the money I spent 3 weeks ago on the car I do not have money to get car fixed now. I have a car payment coming due and honestly don't know what to do. I just bought this car May 2011 and it was a GM certified car! Of course the warranty ran out just before all the issues...The manager there said he'd work with me on trading it in , but the customer service there is lacking, since I got the call on July 30th telling me the total repair cost for the car and today is Aug 2 and I still have no response on manager about the van I'm interested in trading this in on. I honestly believe he realized he does not want to trade in my car as then he'd be stuck with the lemon. I spent from 11am July 30 to 6:30pm July 30 in dealership working up trade in deal & like I said today is Aug 2 and he has still not returned my calls with answer if he can d deal or not. I am even willing to pay asking price for van I want to buy...I just want out of this Acadia!!! I tried to call GM cust serv # but got nowhere with them either. They said it is not a recall so basically I am out of luck

Unfortunately the happiness was short lived. I picked my Acadia up from the dealership Thursday and today, Monday, it rained. I was out running errands so as soon as the water started running in I drove straight to the service dept. so they could witness the leak first hand. They seemed perplexed but have asked me to bring it in to drop it off in the morning again. I am very dissapointed that it seems I have paid $300 for a repair that did not fix the problem and apparently I did not need. My husband is currently deployed and we are hundreds of miles away from any family that can help me get to and from the service department every week (3 weeks in a row now) and I can't afford to rent a car every week. The people at the service dept. have been very nice but I don't think they have a clue where the leak really is and I do not have the money for their trial and error approach to fixing it. I am emailing you at the address provided and am desperate for anything you may be able to help with.
  • gmcustsvcsarahgmcustsvcsarah Member Posts: 1,964
I'm truly sorry that the fix didn't end up working, ahuff03. With your husband away I'm sure that this is a very stressful time for you. My coworker Christina, who answers inbound emails, will be responding soon if she hasn't already and will help you get a case set up in our department.

I did. I just got off the phone with the case manager of GMC Customer Service. He told me that I need to park my car in a garage at all times and that there is nothing wrong with the manufacturing of this car.

    THAT IS UTTER BULL.

I asked for his boss and he told me there was none. Now, you're telling me that within one week of parking outside that is enough for the car to malfunction and continue to leak?

Unacceptable. I would love to join a class action lawsuit. This car is a lemon.
  • jennifer1307jennifer1307 Member Posts: 7
I'm sorry this is happening to you too, but I emailed customer service AND called customer service and they were both unable to help me. I've also taken my car in multiple times and it continues to leak. I had two leaks within a week and the customer service people at GM tell me it is because I park my car outside and debris is getting in some pipe somewhere. I can't afford a new car and I can't afford to keep calling out of work to get this fixed and I certainly can't afford to keep paying the dealer to pretend to fix it.
I've run out of ideas and I'm terrified of driving my car. Why won't anyone help?
  • ahuff03ahuff03 Member Posts: 11
I just got my car back from the dealership for the 5th time in 3 weeks. It hasnt rained again yet so I don't know if the newest fix has worked. If it does i'll be sure to let you know. I read an earlier post where someone said they now call everyone they see driving an acadia a victim..lol Now that is what I think everytime I see one too. So far they have cleaned the sunroof drain tubes, replaced the rear moon roof seal, adjusted the moonroof and seal twice, and now they performed a service bulletin about 4 screw holes in the moon roof assembly that required them the fill the holes with urethane sealant. I have also found another TSB about an unsealed seam in the front passenger side area near the floor that allows water to flow back into the car from the drain hose but that one hasnt been done yet. I am praying that this last one fixed it. The water has already fried my fuse block and that was replaced at the last visit but I know it will only happen again as long as there is a leak and I'm afraid that the next time it won't just be flickering lights and I may be dealing with a more serious electrical issue. GM customer service has stayed in contact with me just to see the progress on my car since I never seem to have it anymore. I do have to say the dealership has been taking care of me and they are as frustrated about not being able to find the leak as I am. I have only had my car for 10 months and love it other than the leak, I hate to think about getting rid of it but I am starting to weigh my options. Good luck to you Jennifer! Let me know if you get anything figured out and I will do the same :)
  • ahuff03ahuff03 Member Posts: 11
Ok, so it rained all day today. The kids and I were inside of petsmart when it started so when it was time to leave we were a little worried. I got into the car and there was no water running under the dash like there usually is. So reluctantly I started the car and pulled out of the parking lot (usually this is when the water comes rushing out of somewhere in the headliner onto someone's head) no drips or leaks! we made it home dry and after about 2 more hours of raining I went out to check on the car. There was still no water on the floor like usual or dripping from unknown crevaces on the roof, although there was about a half dollar sized wet spot on the headliner right at the top of the "A" pillar above the driver seat. I started the car, backed up, braked, pulled forward and braked again to see if it would run out of somewhere, I could hear some water rolling around but that one wet spot is all I have found so far. I will be calling the dealership again in the morning to get my car back to them, hopefully it is just something small and easily fixed. The TSB# of the last repair they did is 07-08-57-002E they filled 4 holes in the fixed moonroof with urethane. If you take that number to your service department they should be able to look it up and know what to do. I am still a little skeptical that it is actually fixed since I have been dealing with it for so long but I am also hopeful! Now to get this last leak figured out. My next chore will be to figure out how to properly clean or replace the carpets and such since I know they are probably full of mildew/mold :(

My purchase history has been gm's for the last 20 years. I have loved every GM product I have owned until now. That is until I had a baby and turned in my convertible for a 2007 GMC Acadia SLT2. Dont get me wrong I LOVE my truck IF it would stay out of the shop. Within the last 3 months I have had my truck for a total of 15 days. Everytime I bring it in they fix something and when i come home there is a new problem with it. my most recent was it rained and when i came to a stop a big puddle of water fell on my left foot out of the dashboard and noticed that the drivers floor under the matt was soaking wet... Which may explain all my other problems too, becuase i noticed the bolt next to the foot rest is coroated and the tracks under my drivers seat are rusted so maybe this is the first time i have noticed the leak, my truck does have a wet sock smell to it.
I have had the rear heating/ac system replaced. I have had the front a/c replaced 2x's. I have had to have the storage box replaced in my front dash, my radio/nav/dvd replaced, my amplifier replaced, my steering hub replaced, buttons under the radio for changing modes replaced, my rear driver side tailite replaced as well as the computer board for it and more I just cant remember right now. I have had all the work done at my gmc dealer, who has damaged car and am waiting for the body shop to repair (scratched off the paint in my doorwell, ripped my weatherstripping, dented my leather seat, left impressionsand scratches on my leather steering wheel, broke the plastic [piece that covers the seatbelt at the base of the side of the seat and had total disregard for my personal belongings by throwing my prescription glasses and ralph lauren sunglasses on the back seat left underneath my car matt that they never put back in place and not to mention the grease left on my windshield and dashboard.)
All I know is if this is the NEW GM then you can count me out, which really stinks because now there is NO good american product left, I have never purchased a foreign car in my life... NOW What. And I hate how GMC is not doing something about what they obviously know about, seeing all these posts turn my stomach, I have spent way to much money on a vehicle that is a CERTIFIED PREOWNED, yeah guess that means nothing too.
PLEASE TELL ME GMC is doing something about this!!!????

Unfortunately I am again dissapointed. The last fix did make the leak a little better but it did not fix it. I called the dealership Monday to let them know there was a little water still coming in on the headliner so they asked me to bring it in right then because it was still raining. As I was driving to the shop I heard water rolling around above my head and it started dripping out of the 3rd row lights again. This time they got me a rental and called today to tell me that my car is being sent an hour away to a "water specialist" because they still cant figure out where the water is coming in.

Good Luck! I see you were asked to contact the media customer service by email. I contacted them and they were of no help, btw. Still worth putting a claim in, but they basically told me they were of no authority and that the district manager (or some similar title) was the only one that could actually help (and of course, he was of no help).

I was just wondering if you were able to get your Acadia in for that TSB yet? I finally got mine back from the water specialist on Thursday afternoon. For some reason the paperwork got messed up between them and the dealership so I dont know everything they did exactly but the dealership said the main problem this time was that the drainage hoses from the sunroof were kinked up and they had to seal glass (the dealership said they think it was a part of the windsheild)I plan to go pick up the actual paperwork tomorrow morning. Anyhow, between friday night and saturday morning we had over 8 inches of rain and off and on rain again today and so far so good! I'm still hesitant to let my guard down after dealing with this for such a long time but it was nice to drive in the rain without needing my rain gear. Now to figure out how to get my carpets cleaned or replaced because that nasty smell is still there :( I wish you lots of luck and hope your car is fixed quickly!

last night was the first rain since i got my truck back on friday and shockingly enough the leak is still there, nice to have a pool in a 40k truck. I called my dealership over 5 hrs ago and still have not heard back from them.

I know exactly how you feel. I took my 2008 Acadia in many times just for them to tell me there is no leak. Now I live in Italy and every time it rains I have a downpour in my truck. I can't find anyone here that is willing to work on a GMC. I will be moving back to the states next year and will be at the dealer as soon as my truck is shipped and arrives. So frustrating....I also paid 40k! I don't understand why GMC doesn't recall these vehicles. Very disappointed to say the least and will never buy another one!

    We're throwing in the towel.

It leaks non-stop. We've had it in for service 4x and no luck. I was relentless in talking to customer service and finally, after multiple phone calls, I was told that yes there is an issue with the drain pipes being easily blocked in 07 Acadias. That this is a significant problem in areas of the country with lots of trees and rainfall, but that they have no solution for me other than to suggest I use covered parking. Considering I do not have a garage at home or at work, this is impossible. The manager had the gall to suggest that the car is not the problem because if I lived in an arid state I would have no trouble. I take this to be the reason why they haven't recalled them. The majority of owners live in dryer areas, with fewer trees, or have access to covered parking.

Honestly, just hearing them admit that their car was poorly manufactured was enough for me. I asked if they could send me a car cover, free of charge, and they said no. They did offer to give me $1,500 towards the price of a NEW GMC. Considering a brand new Acadia costs like $40,000, I politely declined.

The manager, Max, also kept telling me that since I bought it used there wasn't nothing he could do. I said, so what would you do differently if I bought it new? ... Nothing. It would be comical if we weren't talking about a $30,000 used vehicle.

Ah well. We're selling it back to the dealer and buying a Hyundai. If I hadn't been treated so poorly by GMC I would have considered buying a newer model, but they have lost a customer for life.

    Good luck everyone.

i understand that a leaking roof is not an excuse, but to alleviate the immediate issue, why not simply use some duct tape and cover the moonroof seams- i know you won't be able to open roof- but what are the priorities!

I finally picked up the paperwork for the last repair but it only has the credited bill to the water specialist, no details of the work done. I did ask the technician at the dealership what exactly was done and he told me they did several things but the main stuff was that they re-routed all of the rear hoses completely so that they were angled in a proper way to drain. They also had to re-seal a corner on each of the sunroof seals, front and back. It has been extremely rainy here for the past 2 weeks and so far I havent found any water inside the vehichle. I do not have covered parking either so my car has been in all of this weather.
I really hope that you have better luck with your next vehicle! When I was considering trading my car in I was actually looking at the Hyundai Veracruz and the Mazda CX-9. As much as I love the Acadia and the other GM equivalents I think they have a lot of work to do to gain trust back from all of us that have had these issues with our vehicles. I am still not sure if I will be keeping mine as my daughter has severe asthma and I dont feel that the car is safe for her with the huge probability that it is ridden with mold.

the large (fixed) sunroof on my '07 Acadia started leaking about 3 years ago. I didn't realize at first that this is what was letting water into my AC fan housing (which eventually caused the fan to corrode and I had to have it replaced; you could actually see the water line inside the housing where the fan sits!) . Finally, the drains got plugged up, and I began to hear water sloshing around in the overhead, which would get so bad that it would leak out around the windshield, and who knows where else; at this point, I checked this forum , and found out the amazing extent of this defect. After contacting GM customer service, they told me I would have to take it to a dealer for their 'evaluation' (at my cost!) - and even though I had proven with duct tape, that it was the sunroof, and even which one was leaking, 2 dealers I called said it could be well over a hundered dollars just to confirm that it was a leak from the sunroof! I then checked with Hiester (GM dealer in Holly springs, nc) - and they said they wouldn't charge for an estimate, so, I took it in there, and GM customer service authorized paying for the " repair". I . There it sat for 2 days, despite an appointent for the person they have come in to do these 'repairs'. When I picked up the car, I could see that they had put silicone around the glass. Not the way to fix it, I later learned. The next time it rained, the water got in again, and leaked into the interior, soaking my floor board . so obviously the drain was open again, but the sunroof is still leaking, and now is draining into the car, as it was before. I have been down to Heister, and called several times, but no response. Now I had to get back up on the car, and put on some more duct tape. I'm ready to buy a new car, and this experience with customer service and GM dealerships have me looking at buying a Ford.
