Hummer Parts Availabilty

I am thinking of buying a used 2006 or 2007 H3. It will probably have between 40,000 - 50,000 miles on it.

I have two concerns;

1. GM says it will honor the warranties but can they legally retract that commitment at a later date?

2. Parts availability concerns me. If I get in an accident 6 years from now will I be able to get a quarter panel and whatever else may be needed to make the vehicle right?

I'm very excited about getting an H3 and no other 4x4 in my price range ($20k) interests me but I must know for sure that I will be able to get parts and service for a long, long time. If I can't than not only would I have a problem getting my car fixed but who'd want to buy it if they knew they couldn't get parts.

Would like to hear all of your thoughts.

I am thinking of buying a used 2006 or 2007 H3. It will probably have between 40,000 - 50,000 miles on it.

To describe a complex situation in very broad brush strokes, GM has just announced that the sale to China of the Hummer brand has fallen through, so they're now going to close it down in an orderly manner.

It very much depends on how many miles you'll put on the H3. Service items like filters, plugs, brakes etc. should be available almost indefinitely. Also, many of its mechanical and electrical components are common to other GM vehicles.

As for body panels in six years time, who knows? You may not be able to get them from a GM dealer, though it's possible, but it's also quite possible that you'll find what you want on eBay or or through any H3 specialists that may have sprung up by then.

I can't give you a hard and fast guarantee though! ;)

    1. How has GM handled Oldsmobile owners.
    2. Buying four year old vehicle and worried about six years from now.
    Not a unique question.

    A. Calling the Hummer H3 "...my car..." makes me think mall cruiser.
We haven't rock crawled but appreciate a strong body on frame.

    B. $20,000 - maybe lease a new GM ( if you're a GM fan) SUV with awd or a ...

    C. Need/Want DD or off-road beater (better choices)

    D. An emotional decision for a 2006 H3.

    No attack here, just responding.

I really don't see any issues with GM keeping up with the warranties for the duration of your warranty at all. We still sell a few H2 & H3's here & there. Heck ,I'd buy one right now if I could afford the payment. I would like to get the H3T. Maybe jack it up & stick 38" Swampers on it.

I have an 2004 h2 needing some interior parts such as a radio/cd player, door panel, and the on-star system that is malfunctioning and the hummer dealer ship cannot get the parts for it due to the gm shutting down. so it is touch and go. internal electrical and cosmetics parts are definitely an issue I have been waiting for 8 months so far and no luck.

Many ex-Hummer dealers are unloading their redundant parts on eBay.
Some are trying (and failing) to get full MSRP while others are offering significant savings.
For instance, I've seen new Monsoon radio/cd units for well under $100.

Be warned that if you get a H3 2006 that there are big problems with defective cylinders. Mine at 53,000 mi and when I took it to the dealer with the problems I was having they told me it was the exhaust system (that previous owner had put on the rig and to go find out where it was done so they could fix it) but couldn't find previous owner info so just took my H3 to local GM mechanic who told me that BIG problem and it wasn't the exhaust,,,now Hummer/GMC will not help me with this problem because I didn't take it to the dealer. I am so frustrated and upset. Stinks.

Were you able to go do the dealer then and get it fixed? I'm curious on what ended up happening. Thanks.
