TOTALLY RIDICULOUS WAY, HOW GM IS RESPONDING.

THEY WANT 100 BUCKS FOR THE DIAGNOSE AND WHAT YOU WILL GET IS THAT QUOTE FOR 350 TO 400 BUCKS. GOOD LUCK

I HAVE SEEN GM REPS ARE RESPONDING TO POSTS. WHAT DOES REALLY MEAN, IT'S NOTHING MAKING CUSTOMER THAT THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE CARE AND DENY YOUR CASE AT THE DEALERSHIP. SO YOU HAVE TO PAY FROM YOUR POCKET LOL.

IT'S TOTALLY WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.
THEY WANTED TO EVALUATE THE CAUSE OF IT. UNDER YOU EXPENSE THEN THEY WILL DENY THE CHARGES. YOU WILL ENDED PAYING FROM YOUR POCKET AT THE END
    THANKS

I had the rear door locks failed and was quoted $800 to repair. They firat offered me to cover the labor only and I rejected that offer. A couple days later they called and covered the entire repair.

    Happy Customer

Let me add to Bobobx's issue with OBX Chevy, that I caught them in a bold faced fraud besides their efforts to deflect my indignation. This dealership
needs investigation as their repairs are fraught with deceit!

Summary... Fans in my 2007 YukonXL stopped. Bring to dealer, no call back till after 2 PM asking if I would authorize $585 to order parts while car sat in bay with over 2 hrs labor required to fix. After waiting 6 hrs for the diagnosis, I was not about to wait for two days, no truck, for parts (module $185, resistor $ 35 plus 2 hrs labor $ 95 ea.)
When I demanded my car, I was told it was torn down. I insisted and the 2 hrs labor was 15 minutes...and low and behold the fans work. Putting the plug back in nearly cost me $585. This was fraud plain and simple.

GM ...you are dying over this. I owned three GMC's. I have replaced blown transmissions at 100k; I've replaced dashboard instruments; I've replaced front transaxles, all at my cost and I was still loyal. Now I see deceit and I am gone. You have a problem!

I have a 2008 Suburban which I purchased new. Earlier this year, I had a door lock actuator fail at 33K miles which was fixed under warranty. Last week, I had another actuator fail but now have 44K miles and out of warranty.

In researching this, I see this seems to be a common issue (I am expecting the other 2 actuators to fail in the future).

I called Sanborn Chevrolet in Lodi, CA where I purchased my Suburban and they said to bring it in and they would see what they could do.

The good news is they had the repair part in stock and were able to get the approval from GM to repair under warranty while I waited.

While I a disappointed in the quality of this part and the huge number of failures I am reading about, I am appreciative that this dealership and GM were willing to find a way to repair it under warranty.

Hi, I received the Request number 71-986470078 on October 15th. it is now December 7th and I have not been contacted with respect to my service request. The assignment of a number does not help solve the problem. When can I expect someone to contact me to resolve the issue?

    Good morning,
Thank you for posting that information. I'm sorry for the lack of communication - I accessed your case and saw that it was closed. I apologize that the ball was dropped. We can re-open this case and get things moving in the right direction, beginning with an appointment at the dealership. If you would please email us your preferred dealership (also include the case number again as well), we'll get things on track for you. Again, I apologize for the delay.

Sign me up for the door lock recall/class action lawsuit! Both rear doors have stopped working within a week and a half of eachother. If I take them in and get them fixed for say $500+ dollars, who's to say they don't fail within a year. What about the front doors? If they put the same actuators in that are currently in. How can I possibly trust them!? There are OBVIOUS defects in the actuators looking at the amount of posts. I didn't spend $50,000 on a vehicle to have something like the door locks fail.......REPEATEDLY!
GM please pull your heads out of wherever they are and deal with this issue!

    Sarah,
I have a 2008 Tahoe Hybrid (90,000 miles and off course out of warranty), and I have the same issue. Passenger door lock is not going up or down with remote. only works manually. My dealership is Mauer Chevrolet in Inver Grove Heights, MN.
What do I need to do to get that repair covered or at least highly subsidised, without having to pay those crazy prices since we know it is a defective product associated with the 2008 models.
    Thanks
    Lionel

I had (have) the same problem. Bought the LTZ new in early 09 and had to take it in a few months later one for the passenger rear side door lock. At the time they said they were having a lot off issues with the door locks.

About a year ago the other side went out - just trying to find the time to take the stupid thing in. Also VERY dissatisfied with the quality of the paint.

I have a 2008 Chevy Tahoe and all four power locks have suddenly failed and the dealership here in Vermont, Hand Motors, wants to replace all four door actuators for $900. This seems outrageous for what seems to be a common problem. Is there any type of compensation for this cost?
  • kjammukjammu Member Posts: 6
GM customer service is not taking care of their customer at all. i would like to see some help from GM, GM Should take this matter seriously. i don't think they get it. GM is stepping back from their responsiblity, leaving us own our own.
i have contacted gm several time. after spending 400 bucks they denied the case. said it's out of warranty. we we already know that i have 08 chevy tahoe LTZ. it cost 370 to fix 1 side. i have spent more than that my locks are still broken.

GM is only responding to the email making other people feel good that they do respond to email. in reality they just want to call gm so they can embarress us by telling us, sorry your warranty is over. that's a shame for such big manufacture not taking care of their vehicle owner.

To my knowledge this is a big secrutity risk they are putting by driving our trucks with faulty locks. we can fall out of it especially kids. right now we are extra extra careful from kids 5year and 3 years.

GM IS NOT STEPPING FORWARD TO TAKE ISSUE TO CONSIDER AS SAFETY ISSUE. THAT'S UNBELIEVABLE WOW.
gm employees who are responding to us they are just fooling us around and making us embarress by calling them direct. they going to make you go through taking our trucks to dealership, where you would roughly charge $100 to evaluate the casue of it. even though, they know what's wrong with it. then they tell you sorry you are not covered. SORRY YOU LOST 100BUCKS.........

what is the purpose of evaluation. when you know what cause this to fail. it's faulty door lock actuator that installed during production. you don't have to be rocket secientist to figure this out that is faulty parts that cause this to fail.

we are not the only one who are facing this issue. they hundreds and thousand of us.

well if anyone have any sucess with gm. meaning they stepped forward and start taking care of their of customers. please let us know.

I just purchased a 2009 LTZ 4x4 Tahoe on Tuesday 12/6/2011 and over the weekend noticed my rear passenger door lock is not working at all. I to have young children and this makes things very difficult. I purchased the vehicle with approx 35,700 miles on it. I wanted this particular model and to purchase it out of town and now have approx 36,500 miles making it just outside of warranty. From reading numerous post, I see this is very common and I am likely to have the rest of the locks go out as well, soon too. I did notice a TSB was generated for this problem, but still no recall.

A local dealer said since I am over 36,000 and I will have to pay. She quoted me $265 for the repair. There has got to be something GM can do. I have been a GM owner for quite some time now. 2002 Corvette and 2006 Yukon XL. And now I have a $40,000 Tahoe I cant even operate the lock(s) on.

    Any advice?

    Thanks,

    Paul

Although frustrated for many of the same reasons as those on this forum have already expressed, I would like to know how I can contact “Sarah – GM Customer Service”? Does Sarah have an email address or some other contact information? I stumbled across this forum after searching for my problem on the internet. Thanks, Kapusta1

I have had the same issues with many of you here. Two actuators went bad just before the warranty expired and a third has now gone out. I have emailed Sarah with Customer Service and I hope to post positive news soon. I'm hoping that GM will start taking care of this safety issue, especially for the sake of my toddler.

2008 none of the door locks work. with the key fob. Very frustrating 172K miles

    What can be done?
  • jspeerjspeer Member Posts: 2
I have 'inherited' a 2008 Tahow with 172k + miles. It runs great and I have no issues other than the door locks do not wrk with the key fob. It is very frustrating when I have passengers that cannot open the dors from the outside. I am having to roll down the windows to let them unlock the door

I see in this form there have been a lot of problems wit this. How is the best way to go about getting this fixed?

Recently, I heard from one of our drivers that their dealership replaced the BCM and found some damaged wires in what he described as being the "wiring harness" as it went into the doors.

Please don’t consider this an official GM diagnosis, but it may assist you in the process of narrowing down what to do with your vehicle. If you do decide to visit a GM Dealership to have this diagnosed, please be sure to let us know in an email with your name/user name, contact information, the name of your dealership and appointment date/time, and the last 8 digits of your VIN as we would like to follow up on this appointment with you.

    Sarah,

I am posting this so that one more entry on this subject will be lised on edmunds and that curious GM owners that may or may not be in the market has sufficient info.

I too have a 2008 Yukon that has the same problem as the MANY others that have posted here. The closest dealer to me quoted approximately $350.00 to $400.00 per door to repair. That is just insane considering GM obviously knows there is a defect in these actuators and or wiring harness'. I would like to open a case with you. I will send you my information in a seperate email.

Just wanted to add my problem to the power lock issue with GM SUV's,Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban (actuator issue). Purchased 2008 Yukon Denali AWD new at Detroit dealership. First lock failure noted on rear passenger door around 32,000 miles, (never took it in figured it was not that bad and missed warranty repair, bad move on my part!). Next lock, front passenger door, failed around 50,000 miles, ( was at dealer getting oil change was informed it was actuator issues and was ocuring with a lot of Yukons and Suburbans, was told it would be $250/door to repair, I said no way, not on a $60,000 vehicle that was only 1 year old, was instructed to take up with GM). Next lock, driver door, failed around 80,000 miles. I finally contacted GM regarding issue around 100,000 miles when the rear driver door began to fail. Spoke with a resolution person who had me go to dealer and get problem diagnosed again at a cost of $100 and was informed GM would only cover a small portion of the problem because of the age of the vehicle and mileage, ( 2 years old and a little over 100, 000 miles; FOR REAL!!) I currently have 150,000 miles on the vehicle, 1 power door lock working at times and unable to use my Onstar feature, (the reason I purchased the car intially). I have owned three Ford Expeditions in the past, 2000 that was traded in with 315,000 miles on it, no problems, 04 with 345,000 miles on it, totaled in a car wreck, no problems. I went with the Denali because of the ride quality and power (awesome ride quality!) and most importantly the Onstar crash feature because during the crash in the Expedition the phone went out the window and was unable to call for help, luckly someone witnessed the crash and called for me as I was pinned in the car). I am looking to get a new vehicle shortly and was considering a Escalade but with my recent experence with GM the hell with any GM vehicle. Would go back to ford but GM has spoiled me with the awesome ride quality of their SUV's. I am considering Infinti QX but it is a hard decision as I have always purchased American vehicles, ( I am from Detroit for God's sake!). Well hope this post helps someone who is considering a GM vehicle. Love the Ford quality and safety, GM spoiled me with ride quality and then burned me with its customer service, quality and customer commitment. Good Luck!

2008 Tahoe 38 months old 36,000+ miles. Just out of warranty now. Replaced driver actuator under warranty claim last year but rear door driver side now unresponsive. Is GM going to step up?
  • sabuesosabueso Member Posts: 1
Just got a 2008 Tahoe with 46k miles days ago.

I have this same problem on driver door. Lock gets stuck, and is also making banging noises when driving, as if there is something loose inside or the latching mechanism is losse.

How to proceed? I am in ZIP 77381, VIN: 1GNFC13088R118797

Driver side window is also making squeaky noises too when rolled up and down.

I understand that you just purchased this vehicle, and I am sorry that these concerns have already surfaced. I looked into the vehicle's information and did not see any open safety recalls, and that you will still be within the powertrain warranty until 11/28/2012 or 100,071 miles, whichever comes first.

If you are interested in a Customer Assistance Case, please email us more information, including: your name and Edmunds username (helps us match up posts to emails), contact information (phone and address, please), and the name of your preferred dealership.

Omg, I am supposed to pick up a 2008 Tahoe to try out before I buy it, and the reason I don't already have it is because it HAD TO HAVE AN ACTUATOR REPLACED! What am I getting into???I won't be charged for this one, but I can see what to expect in the future. This dealership doesn't have the best track record with me anyway, but it sounds like I will be fighting GM as well. To pretend that this door-lock problem doesn't exist is absurd! I'm glad I saw all these posts so I'm better prepared when I confront them about this. The second problem they fixed was something about an emission control causing the check engine light to come on. Is this anything serious?

So, I was post #339 earlier on this page. I had a third actuator go out recently and decided to contact Sarah at GM based on posts she had placed in this forum.

I am happy to say that Christina contacted me in Sarah's place the very next day requesting more information. I sent that along and she forwarded all my information to a district specialist for my area.

Danielle was my district specialist and she contacted me the following day to be a liason between my dealership and me. We worked out a time for me to take my Suburban in and they completed the actuator repair "under warranty" (even though my Suburban has 56K miles) for me and checked all my other locks to be sure they were all in working order at this time.

I am happy to say that I am a satisfied GM customer! If you are having difficulties with your actuators, I would highly recommend contacting Sarah or Christina. They were happy to help and were very efficient. While I do think this is a systemic Suburban/Yukon problem, they seem to be doing what they can when they are contacted about it.

GM stepped up and did so with stlye and customer service/satisfaction in mind! I was post #345. After my post I also sent an email to Chevrolet.com through a link on my Onstar account. Next AM received a call from Chevrolet rep. who conferenced me in on a phone call he made to my dealership. Made an appointment that PM and an hour and a half later lock was fixed! Completed within 18 hours of my posts. Was quoted a fee of $60 for a necessary diagnosis that was waived, so I paid zero. Another satisfied GM customer.

Well, new to the Chey truck line-up and within the 2 months of owning my first maintenance issue appeared. So after some easy research, it appears I am a fool to think my passenger door lock will fix itself when "the weather gets warmer". So, I stand in a long line of WTF is GM doing about these door actuators. I am definitely out of warranty and I can safely assume the $100 dealer assessment will tell me the actuator needs to be replaced at ~$400. I can save $ by doing the repair myself, but I shouldn't even have to concern myself with the repair for something that is obviously a defective part/design. I have 3 kids under 6 years of age sitting in the back seat and I will always wonder if their doors locked properly. This concern removes the safe cozy feeling my wife and I had about our new suv.

I extend this out to Sarah (gmcustsvcsarah) I will send you an email with my info. Maybe you can help me. It's worth a try.

On a side note in response to other comments made in this thread:
I've owned several GM cars in the past, then moved to Toyota and Acura for awhile. Well, IMO GM is missing the game when it comes to reliability and customer service. In today's tough economic world, more and more consumers put an strong emphasis on customer service when shopping knowing their hard earned $ will be supported if something were to go wrong. Pretty simple...keep the customer happy and they will come back. I work in a service industry and if I don't follow this simple rule...I will be jobless.

I would gladly email you that info but since my Tahoe is a 2005 I know for a fact there is no recall on this issue so I do not want to waste yours or mine time. But I would like to know why the Chevy dealers are not aware of why a lot of the Tahoe's have a manual locking button for the liftgate and window and a lot of them dont? Mine for instance does not have a manual key hole for my liftgate so I cant even manually open the glass or liftgate. I find this a safety issue since I do have a 3rd row and its impossible to exit the rear due to no internal liftgate release or external key hole. I so cant wait to trade this headache in for something more reliable and be able to deal with a company that will stand by their products.

At about 38,000 mile my suburban's driver door lock began to fail. I took it in to the dealer and discovered it was a $250 + repair. Shortly after that the drivers side passenger door began to fail and now all 4 doors are failing. So I am looking at about $1000.00 to repair all doors and it only has 42,000 miles on it. I am very disapointed in the craftsmanship of my suburban. I had previosly owned 2 dodges, a 2003 2500 quad cab 4x4 and a 2004 Duragno. Both were purchased new and neither one of them had the problems this suburban has had. I a really sad that chevy is aware of the actuator issue and has failed to recall the problem.

This seems to be a major epidemic with Chevy's door lock actuators... I bought a 2009 Tahoe and we love our truck. Like the commercial Chevy runs deep in our family. We have bought a 2006 Trailblazer, 2009 Malibu, and my wife's baby the Tahoe. We're very disappointed with Chevy lately, how does two actuators go bad the same time. I know parts are supposed to be replaced on vehicles but two actuators... That seems fishy to me. It seems that Chevy knows about this problem and are not attempting to fix it. I'm a Soldier and I live on a fix income and I earn my money with a lot of sweat like most Americans. I will pay to get my truck fix, but this is the last time I buy Chevy.

I just I will join the thousand of other bloggers to say I have all 4 door lock actuators broken. They went out one at a time over a 4 month period of time. I drive 250 highway miles a day so I am out of warranty log before the problems started. I have no intentions of going to the dealership to spend $100 on dianostic only to be quoted $1000+ to fix a problem with the same defective Chinese motors. I current have 4 Chevy in my household but have lost confidence in the quality of this company and the fact that they refuse to fix a defective part with a recall.

I found a company called GruvenParts.com who have sucessfully replaced the cheap chinese actuator motors with USA motors and fixed the problem. I think I will send my dfective GM actuators with defective chinese motor to this company to fix.

Just wanted to update regarding the below case. I received a call from District Specialist Kristen on Thursday, 1/12/12. I received an unsatisfactory resolution call on this afternoon with the same offer from GM as before, a 50/50 split on repair cost which I find to be unsatisfactory due to the issue being wide spread and known to GM. Unfortunately this has fractured my relationship with GM and it is highly unlikely I would purchase or recommend a GM vehicle in the future. Hope everyone has better luck than me. Have a fantastic day! (interesting note - I was told they (GM and the dealer I purchased from) may have provided more assistance if I had more maintenance performed at the dealer. Strange? Most of the maintance services offered by my dealer are 2-3x higher than my local repair/maintenace facilties so that means I still would have paid for it ( the lock repair) anyway. Gotta love GM and the screwed up thinking and management!) P.S. I am loving the new MKZ concept from Lincoln! Looks like I may be going back to Ford!!!
