    Good morning ndhousemover,

Thank you for posting your case number. At this point, the offer that your District Specialist made is the final offer we can make. I'm sorry that this wasn't a satisfactory resolution for you.

No, THANK YOU! For making me pay the $90 diagnostic fee when we all knew what the problem was. And THANK YOU!! for making me pay another $600 when I could have replaced them myself for $300. THANK YOU!!! for standing behind your customers and not recalling defective parts when this is an OBVIOUS defect that is affecting thousands of vehicles. THANK YOU!!!! for slapping me in the face with a " $1,000 certificate towards my next new GM vehicle." (that will probably fail and not be covered) when we both know I sure as hejj am never going to buy another GM product as long as I live. THANK YOU!!!!! for opening my eyes and showing me what General Motors is really about! No really THANKS!

If that offer is the best you can do God help the rest of you poor GM customers because they will drag this out and screw you in the end like they have so many other customers.

PS. I am not going away anytime soon. So put your big girl pants on cause I'm here to stay until I see some change in how you handle this situation.

I have a 08 Chevy Avalanche LTZ and I am having issues with the doors not locking and unlocking. After spending all this money on a vehicle there has to be a resolution to this situation without me spending even more money. Is there a recall or someone that I can talk to so I can see about this getting fixed?
  • gmcustsvcsarahgmcustsvcsarah Member Posts: 1,964
    Good morning bama49,

If we can check for any open recalls on your Avalanche, please email us at socialmedia@gm.com with the last 8 of your VIN and we'll go from there!

Like everyone else in this forum, I'm having issues with the rear driver side lock sticking. My current 08 Tahoe LTZ is out of warranty, but it's a lingering issue that was supposedly fixed when it was under warranty by the dealership. Is there any way to get this issue fixed free of cost as the same problem has presented itself after the lock was replaced under warranty?
I understand that most new car electronics are complex and one out of several thousand relay switches in the vehicle can fail, but I'm just not keen to spend an additional 300-400 dollars on fixing something that looks like its a known issue.
Hopefully this matter can be resolved as I have seen plenty of responses from the GM reps.

    Thanks
    Roberto

I am having the same problem as a lot of people on this forum. I have a 2005 Tahoe with 69000 mile an the rear door(hatch will not lock) this has been a problem for some time now, and my wife is after me to do something about it.

Has anyone had any luck getting GM to help with the problem after your vehicle is out of warranty?

this seems to be a safety issue that should be looked into. Thanks for any help or advice you might have.

Add another one to the list - front drivers door lock failure. Love this forum - waiting to see what dealer comes back with. Is there any service recall notification number yet? Has anyone had sucess in getting GM to replace with a newly designed unit vs. paying big$$'s to replace with the same deffective part?

I am also having the same issue with a 2008 Z71 completely loaded Tahoe. The rear passenger won't lock with remote or electricly and the rear driver side won't unlock with remote or electricly. I have spoke to a GM rep and made an appt for Friday to have it looked at. Since there are this many with the same problem it should definitely be recalled! It is a safety issue when you have children in the backseat and the door will only lock/unlock manually. A $60K vehicle should last longer than this. I also have a 2004 Z71 Tahoe with over 200k miles on it and it's still working great. Something definitely needs to be done about this problem!

Hello since I've had my 08 avalanche. My driver side and rear right passenger side door locks have been replaced due to this malfunction everyone is having under warranty. Now that my warranty has expired my front passanger lock has malfunctioned,. That's make 3 defective locks. I have extended warranty but will have to pay a deductable. The last two time they were replaced the rep told me their was a bad batch on these locks cus they were having alot of issues. Is their a recall on these locks? Vin 3gnec12028g252346

We have 29K on a 2008 Chev Tahoe LS and just had a door lock fail two weeks ago. So that was shortly after its 30K maintenance ($600), when the driver's side door failed to auto-unlock after placing it in park. When, it also failed to respond to that door's unlock button on the control panel AND to the button on the key chain, I had a "blonde moment" picturing myself having to crawl out the passenger door to escape ... until I calmed down & manually pulled up the door lock and let myself out. tuh.

So, anyway ... today I'm heading to the dealership where "Brian" has seen more and more of these cases and has promised a no-charge diagnosis and a discussion with his boss as to options.

I also had door lock failure while stil under warranty (2 doors). Now I'm at 60K and have two more failures. I previously had another Yukon and had the same problem. I foolishly assumed that between '04 and '08 they would have fixed the problem. I will attempt to take it to the dealer, but I know I'm wasting my time because it's out of warranty. I will take the opportunity to tell the Sales Manager why after 3 GM products, I'm done! I like the interior room, etc of the Yukon but I will not purchase another GMC product.

My wife and I recently had a family emergency and could not get our six month old out of the car without crawling through the back. Our 2008 Tahoe has ~50K miles and two of the door actuators do not work. It is disappointing and confusing that GM would turn their backs on customers who are known to buy Tahoes each cycle (this is our third and maybe last) for a safety issue. As I read the other posts in this forum, it appears that the solution at the dealership continues to have issues. Furthermore, it seems as though the dealerships are happy to continue to make money off this "GM" problem. Shame.

AND YET ANOTHER ONE! We have a 2008 Yukon Hybrid. The driver's door lock quite working just prior to going out of warranty. Our dealer fixed it. Now the driver's side rear lock isn't working and the driver's door has stopped working again. Of course, out of warranty. Way too frustrating. I have been a GMC guy for 40 years. I can't count how many new Suburans and Yukons I have bought over the decades. Reading hear how GMC is handling (actually not handling) this safety and defect problem is sending me over the top. I will need to buy two new vechicles in the coming months and I am heart broken to say I won't even look at GMC. I'm sorry that my first post on this site is such a downer. Shame on you, GMC.
  • bklunderwoodbklunderwood Member Posts: 2
I took my 08 Tahoe in this morning and as the guy is unlocking and locking doors my driver door lock stops working.. I took it in for both rear locks not working. So they are fixing all three for a $100 deductible. It's better than the $900 it would have cost me but still a little frustrating being it obviously should be recalled due to the number of these acuators going bad. But I'm not going to complain.
    Thanks GM!

Incredible that a $50k vehicle can have such POS parts that GM is not willing to admit to. And if you haven't had the unexplained electrical problems yet, you probably will. I have about 60,000 miles on my Tahoe; driver's lock and right rear passenger lock don't work. Rear won't unlock; driver's won't lock! I will not pay $300 - $400 per door to have these fixed; we will be attempting the repairs ourselves; especially after reading here that they will be replaced with the same crappy parts that will no doubt fail again. Hopefully we won't ruin the door panels so that they'll be forever falling off, but do you really expect people to be able to afford $800 in repairs in this economy? GM should own up to these problems and issue a recall - I'm sure that I'm not the only taxpayer on this forum who helped to bail your company out!

As for the electrical problems; thank goodness the random "not starting" problem has ceased miraculously on its own (after replacing a 2 1/2 year old battery on an expensive vehicle - there is a separate forum on this issue for anyone who has experienced the Tahoe acting totally dead when trying to start it after having just shut it off 5 minutes earlier (CD player cycles on and off or door locks switch up and down a few times); maybe it was around the time the door locks failed, or the backup warning beeps and door open beeps went almost silent, or the front driver's door speaker started not working and then working sporadically?

I am just thankful that now with only 2 functioning door locks, I no longer have children in car seats (and almost always drive without passengers)!!!!! I didn't even realize how lucky I was that it was the driver's door that failed until I realized it is THE ONLY DOOR THAT CAN BE OPENED WITH A KEY!!!! If you take away all the other options of opening the door you should make sure the single point of failure isn't going to fail. There I feel better now.

Well, it is official...my Tahoe is a lemon. I purchased it new in 2008 and have had nothing but problems. Very frustrating. We have owned both Chevy and GMC trucks with no issues. I will never buy a Tahoe again, and now thinking that perhaps Chevy does not make them like they used to and time to try a different maker. The first 2 years my car was in the dealership more times than i can count. It had to do w/ an Onstar module that was going out and kept leaving me stranded. It only took them 12 or so visits to figure it out. Then I had some major interior cosmetic issues, the rear AC, and now my door locks! I just called the dealer and left a message to make another appt. They ARE replacing the door locks, because I am not playing the game again. My warranty will be expiring soon. I am going to be contacting the Consumer Protection Agency, 20/20, MSNBC, and the local news. I think this would make a great story. I suggest that others follow suit. If you are having trouble getting your vehicles properly fixed, you need to act.

After months of issues with our 2008 Tahoe, our car lost power this morning and nearly ran us off the road. We are just thankful our 2 year old had already been dropped off at daycare. It started with the car going dead time after time again, and has now gotten to the point of the car losing power while the car is in motion. We have taken our car to 2 dealerships, both of which are lacking either the knowlege or interest in accurately diagnosing the problem. Three weeks ago we paid $800 to replace an electrical component that was supposed to correct the problem, and surprise surprise the problem has gotten even worse. We don't know day to day when (as it is no longer "if") we are going to get stranded. Now that this has become a safety concern we are to the point of seriously considering litigation. My husband has been in contact with a gentleman at the Chevy Corporate office, who has tried to be helpful, but now that our safety is at risk we need more than helpful advice. We need someone to take ownership of helping us identify the problem. The car is out of warranty, so playing the "guessing game" is not an option for us. We need a competent, knowledgeable repair team to diagnose the problem so we can get this fixed.

I'm sorry to say that I took my car to power Chevrolet today superstition springs ,Mesa Az as requested by gm social media to diagnose my 3 door lock actuators not working. The parts cost 75$ and they refused to fix them without charging my 750$. I have personally purchased 2 brand new chevys from this dealership in the last 4 years and Chevrolet , Gmac, GM would just not do what's right for their customers. How many more parts must fail before power chevrolet superstition springs and Chevrolet make it right for their customers?

I can't believe all the posts I've read. I too have had 3 of my door locks fail and that is only the tip of the iceberg. The trim piece around my drivers window pulls out everytime I roll up my window. My dash board is literally crumbling. I thought it was a crack until further inspection and it's like the plastic or whatever the dash is made of is crumbling. I can't believe how cheaply made my Tahoe hybrid is. I have been a Chevy owner for several years now and this will probably be my last. $50,000 + for a lemon is bad business. Funny thing is, all but one of the door locks happened after my warranty expired. Chevy you need to issue several recalls on the 2008 Chevy Tahoes and probably other years too. We, The Taxpayers, bailed you out and now you stick it to us. Thanks

I have been reading people having the same problems with this. I am too having these problems, doors not locking or unlocking, heat blowing when the a/c is on, the list goes on. I was wondering if you have gotten anyware with GM or with the CPA. I bought the car last year in an attempt to get my 6 kids a seat 5 of which are toddlers and now the door locks don't work.. Very frustrating. I taking your advice and going to contact the CPA.

I got a 2005 Tahoe with low miles thinking what a great deal I was getting. Already over 2K in repairs with < 500 miles on it. Would be more like 3500 if it wasn't for the warranty I got.

So both rear door actuators happen to go bad at the same time but they claim it's not an electrical issue, and they aren't covered. To the tune of $900 getting the parts at cost.

I will never buy Chevy again (told myself that last time) and will make sure I tell friends the same.

What a joke it's obvious this part should be recalled and covered for all the people with the issue on all years.

    Good old american quality. :(

Hopefully there will be a class action lawsuit forthcoming since GM obviously won't address this obvious design flaw/issue.

I found this forum doing a search on our 2009 Tahoe LT after we began to experience several problems all at once! It just blows me away that there are so many noted problems i.e. door locks, battery issues, AC blowing hot air and more... And Chevy has yet to do any recalls when it's obvious that there are faulty issues in the vehicles they are manufacturing! This is absolutely insane that an automobile that is only 3 years old 65,000 miles has a battery that continues to go dead without any warning for no reason (single mom with 2 kids under age 7 dead battery on 5 different occasions since October 2011)but yet battery is ok, 2 out of 4 doors lock but will not unlock, and the A/C blows hot air randomly! And the dealerships want to charge for everything but the true fix!

Hmmm I had the expect same prob. A/c would blow hot air and i would mess with the temp knob till it kicked back on but it stopped doing that. My battery died the same time yours did in Oct. 2011 with only 36,000 miles on my 08. So I sucked it up and bought a new one. Know a third door is giving me the locking issue. But GM cust serv set me up with my dealership to get this fixed at no charge. Just waiting to take it in. I hope they also replace the 4th door lock before this happens again.

I am sooo glad to know I am not alone... I love the ride and look of my Tahoe but I will probable never buy another Chevrolet product. Ever. It was under warranty when my door locks on the driver side and back driver side quit working. Had to crawl over with my baby at daycare to get out bc the door handle wouldn't work. Took it to the Chevy place they looked at it bc it worked when I got there. Charged me over $100 told me to bring it back if it messed up again and they wouldn't charge that fee but found nothing wrong with it. So when it did I took it back, was told it was an Actuator and it would be $500 to fix it bc my warranty had expired, even though it started bf my warranty was up. My dash is cracked in two places. My drivers side vanity mirror has been replaced once and is cracked again. I have had my tahoe sign on the front replaced twice and the gold is still peeling out of the inside. My steering wheel is peeling and the airconditioner buttons are losing all of their color as are the chevy signs on the rims. Worst of all, I was about to trade it off and as i was driving home last week it starting flashing "stabila track off" and "traction control off" and making an awful noise. I pull over and it is coming from the motor. Took it to my mechanic and he said is the lifter, camshaft and who knows what else. He said it was a major issue with the Tahoes so he calls the local Chevy place to check for a recall and they inform him that Chevrolet is well aware of the problem but would not be issuing a recall because it is not a safety issue!!!! I strongly consider me and my 5 year old being stuck on the side of the road a safety issue. He also informed me that they have 2 electrical recalls on my truck that I wasn't even notified about!!!! It infuriates me to pay that much for something and it not even hold up or be backed up by the company that made it. Its ridiculous and they have lost my business. I have owned a Mustang, a trailblazer and a Tahoe. I loved my car and had zero problems with it...wish I could say the same for the other 2.

You may want to have the dealer check the Onstar module. I also had issues with my tahoe not starting and the dealer kept insisting it was the battery. They replaced it, but still was getting stranded. After several trips to the dealer (at least 12), it was FINALLY diagnosed as the Onstar module Once they replaced it, the issue stopped. When it comes to warranty work, I have found that the dealers will try the least expensive solutions first. I have a feeling that they knew what it was all along. Unfortunately, they wasted much of my time and gas.

I am just really disheartened with Chevrolet. They used to be such a great company. I am all for buying American, but can now understand why people go to foreign makers. If Chevy would just recall the known issues and get it overwith. They should realize by now that saving money by not recalling and fixing the known issues is costing them return customers. I have a 2000 GMC truck that I love, it is a tank. BUT, I will never by a new Chevy product again until they make things right. I will be trading in my Tahoe next year. My extended warranty is getting ready to expire and I do not want to put the money into something that I will get no return for.
