A dealer does not care if a person buys or leases a vehicle. In either case, it is a sale for the dealer.

It is amusing so many people believe they can pull a fast one on a dealer. Dealers sell cars every day. The average buyer not so often.

The key to getting a good lease is knowledge not deception.
  • peroxideperoxide Member Posts: 3
Ken117, you are right. I will stop attempting to pull fast ones at my local dealership. Glad you're amused.

I agree, you really do not need to deceive a dealer when negotiating a lease ken117. I have gotten to the point that I do not condone dishonesty in any aspect of my life. Having said that, I can see why someone would do so. Some dealers are very straightforward and transparent. However, many drool when they hear that a consumer wants to lease because they can throw all sorts of payments out there at them with padded selling prices and marked up money factors that enable them to hide profits that they wouldn't normally be able to hide on a csh or finance deal.

That's why I don't advocate hiding that one wants to lease, but instead controlling the negotiations by negotiating an attractive selling price on the vehicle that they want, just as if they were going to purchase or finance it and then making sure that the dealer uses the correct money factor to calculate their payment.

Acura is running two different lease promotions on the ILX until 4/30/13 in NY. Which is the better offer to take?

One is for 209.00 a month for 36 months with 2499.00 due at signing.
The other offer is essentially a sign and drive at 260.00 a month for 35 months.

Terms and conditions are easily obtainable by going to their website or acuraofwestchester.com

Both offers are based on MSRP of 26,795.00. Option to purchase at 16,344.95 And the money factor I was told today by the dealer was .00024. Think that's a good deal?

The only difference I noticed on Acura's website when comparing the two is the actual net capitalized costs. For the 209.00 a month it's 23,524.96 (including acquisition fee).
The 260.00 a month is 25,494.00. How is that difference calculated?

Can one advise me which is the best approach to take?

If I wanted the premium package how should I calculate the extra monthly cost? The full MSRP of the premium divided by the term months or the depreciation value of the MSRP? Are manufacturer offers like these extremely strict and hard to change around?

My last question: I was told by the salesman that to upgrade to 12k a year would raise the payment "by about 25.00" a month. A little math determined that to be 15 cents a mile. According to the term offer, the penalty IS 15 cents extra per mile so there seems to be no incentive to pay for a 12k program other than to have the assumed 900.00 penalty(assuming I drive 36k over the term vs 30k) washed into the monthly payments. I think I'd rather take my chances on the cheaper payments and if I don't hit 36k then the extra $ is in my hands and not the dealers. Is my thinking logical with this? Can I negotiate 10 cents a mile since 15 is the penalty at the end or am I bound by the terms of the manufacturers offer?

Thanks for any help with all these questions I asked. Hopefully someone else can also find my concerns helpful in their process of leasing.

oh yeah, one more thing, does Acura typically include gap insurance? I don't see any mention of it on the offer terms and conditions.

    1) Just doing the math, the zero down, $260/mo. lease looks cheaper.. For a number of reasons, it's a better idea to not make a downpayment, and take the higher payment... if those numbers are correct, it's a no-brainer..

    2) The difference in the capitalized cost is because of the downpayment in the one example.

    3) The increase for the premium package should be along the same lines as the lease payment... So, if the car has an MSRP of $26K and it's $260/mo., then a $1000 factory option should raise the payment about $10/mo. (just as an example)

    4) "by about 25.00" .. Just a guess... and not accurate.. Going from 10K/yr to 12K/yr decreases the residual by 1%... This will add $268 to your depreciation.. That is a bargain for 6000 extra miles... (under $0.05/mile). If you even think you might need them, it's worth it...

All Honda (Acura) Finance leases include GAP insurance..

Just received an initial internet quote from a salesman at Larchmont Acura. He seemed a bit hesitant in his wording on handing out an initial quote via email. He did end it with, "I will work out a really good lease on the vehicle for you." so I assume he's prepared to negotiate some.
Seems a bit high compared to the earlier posts here. I'm hoping for some feedback on these figures before I go in there to see him. Is this competitive from your knowledge?

    Premium ILX
    Term- 36 months
    Miles- 10k per year
    First payment- $313.89
    Bank Fee- $595
    Sales Tax- $1002.88
    Tax on Bank Fee- $52.81
Total due at signing- $1,964 plus DMV
Residual is 59% Money factor is .00024
MSRP $30,095 Invoice $28,876 (He's leasing me the car about 200.00 behind invoice)

Is there a chance I could get this monthly payment under 300 with enough hassling? Possibly sub 300?

    Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks!

About to go for the following deal

    Premium Package
    339/mo for 36 months
    10k miles
$272 DMV fee, $199 Processing fee included
6% tax is also included. it's maryland so the 6% is on the total cost of the car, making it about ~$1650 total

    Think I could do better?
  • jett456jett456 Member Posts: 50
Yes. Shoot for $315. with nothing down except for DMV fee. That is what I got with first month and they paid my last month of old lease. I'm in CT.

You can definitely do better... Actually based on your numbers, your still about $200 over invoice. There is also $1,000 rebate he is not accounting for. You can get this car for $800 behind invoice plus the rebate. I did it earlier in the week. Here is what the deal should be with a selling price of $26,600. Good luck!

    Hi Carman
Could you please tell me the current residual value and money factor for the 2013 ilx auto. sedan with 15k miles/year/36 mos.
Looking at both the Premium pkg. and the Tech pkg.
Would the numbers be the same for both?

So, by my fuzzy math, if you bought this car at the end of the lease, it'll have cost about $28.6k or so to keep this vehicle. Curious what vehicle you came out of and why you chose this one? Haven't driven one yet but is it that much different then the Civic I presently own? I do like the exterior/interior of this vehicle but isn't it so close to a Civic EX-L with that one being substantially cheaper? Just curious as to your motivation here as you obviously prefer this size vehicle as I do. I've also heard the Acura buying experience is a good one and much better than the Honda one. Also, what other choices did you have besides the ILX to lease?

Sorry for all the questions but seems there are so many vehicles to choose from so am curious how this became your top choice.

The quoted residual I got on the same config. for 12k miles per year was $17,455 or 58%

Have you made a decision yet?

Thank you for your figures. I will certainly use this as a good gauge for negotiations. Congratulations, that's an AWESOME deal you got!

    Two quick questions:

How are you basing invoice pricing? Is their a legitimate website I can present to say this is what he should be basing it on? It appears he's basing his figures on a different invoice price than what I'm seeing on different websites out there.

1,000 rebate: this is a big incentive for me, but I don't see where this is advertised. How can I obtain info on this rebate?

I will happily post my results when I close this deal(hopefully) this week.

    Thanks again.

I want to make sure this is the best offer I can get, so anyones insight would be much appreciated!

    2013 Acura ILX Premium, automatic
    3,200.00 Down
    12,000 miles / year
    3 year term
    239.32 / mo

Side note: They originally offered me 261.23/mo with the same terms, but I told them I wanted to be under 240/mo.

It seems good, I just want to get other opinions before I make the move.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Sure lefty26. Acura's March buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36-month lease of a 2013 ILX Premium with 15,000 miles per year are .00024 and 56% for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier.

The numbers for an otherwise identical lease of a '13 ILX Tech are exactly the same.

Acura is currently providing a $1,000 cash incentive on leases of the Premium and $1,250 on the Tech.

Anyone think this is a good deal for a 2013 ILX w/ Tech:

    Acquisition Fee: $595.00
    Document Fee: $199.00
    First Month: $289.00
    Title Fee: $105.00
    Tax on First Mo: $25.65
    Total Out: $1,213.65

    Monthly Pmt: $289.00
    Tax: $25.65
    Total per Mo: $314.65

Should I push for 280 per Mo, and see if they can absorb the first Months payment and the document fee? Or is this the lowest that they can go?

    Thanks!

Its actually in New Jersey, but I am NY based. FYI the Tax in NY is 8.875%, so hopefully PA might have a lower tax rate, and get a better deal.

    Hey guys,

About ready to do a deal, but is it good?

Tech Package for @369.80 for 36mos, 16k miles a year. Payoff is 18,068?.20?

I'm also trading in my honda 2011 accord coupe with close to 35000 miles on it, they offered a payoff of 14500, which is what I owe...

I asked for 16 because I drive far but only three days a week, plus adding in weekend travel...

I wanted to make a decision tonight please let me know!

EDIT: Forgot to say 0 down.

What's your take on the offer? Should I negotiate for less? From what I'm seeing in other posts I think I should be asking for less, but I'm not sure what price point I should be pushing for. Would love your help!

Here are the current lease #'s on a 2013 Acura ILX w/Premium Package.

    *12,000 miles per year
*36 month lease (35 remaining payments)
*$0 cash out of pocket to start

$28,700.00 selling price including the $1043.97 required start ups-1st payment, Doc fee, NV title fee
    $30,095.00 is MSRP
    $28,402.00 is dealer invoice

    35 remaining payments @ 367.66 including tax

    Residual is 58% for 12k a year.

I asked to lower the payment but they said my upfront costs of $1043.97 were there reason the monthly was higher. What is a good price point to shoot for?

    Hi Car_Man

I'm looking for some assistance on the deal presented to me by one of my local FL dealers.
    Acura 2013 ILX Premium Lease

MSRP = $30,600 (with pro pack-not sure what that means?)
    Residual Value= 58% ($17.455.10)
    Miles/year = 12k
    Lease Term = 36 months
    Money Factor: .00024
    Total = $300.14 a month w/ tax ($280.50 plus $19.64 tax)
$1,626.18 out of pocket ($300.14 first payment, $799 doc or dealer fee, $453.50 tag fees, $73.54 upfront taxes.)

It seems a little high to me, his MSRP is $505 higher than what I found, and the dealer/doc fee is high, and tag and tax fees?
I would appreciate any assistance before I proceed. Thank you very much!
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Hi jayinsrq. the money factor that you were quoted is spot on. That's a good thing.

Having said that, you never mentioned a selling price for this car. the selling prices of leased vehicles are negotiable, just as if you were paying cash for or financing them. Without this number, it is more difficult to tell how large a dealer discount you are being given...and in turn if there's any room left to negotiate.

If I was in the market for an ILX right now, I personally would shoot for a selling price of a couple hundred dollars over dealer invoice minus the $1,000 dealer cash that is currently available on the ILX Premium model. You can look up the invoice price for this car in the following section of Edmunds.com: New Vehicle Pricing.

No problem, jayinsrq. It happens all the time. The dealer invoice price of this car is $28,402. If we subtract the available $1,000 dealer cash from that it drops to $27,402. The selling price that you were quoted is significantly under that...$26,573. That's a very good deal.

It seems you have a better deal than mine. With tax my payment is $300 with 0 down. There seems to be more room to negotiate if I want a Base ILX.
  • litigatorlitigator Member Posts: 6
Car Man, I'm trying to determine whether the following is a good deal from a FL dealer for a lease on an ILX with Tech Package: 36 months / 10,000 miles per year.

    Sales Price: $30,167.73
    Gov't Fees: $467.50
    Proc/Doc Fees: $664.50
    Acquisition Fee: $595.00
    Gross Cap Cost: $31,360.73

    Money Factor is 0.00024

    Residual is 59%

$0 Down Monthly Payment is: $379
$1000 Down Monthly Payment is: $349
$2000 Down Monthly Payment is: $319

The gov't and proc/doc fees seem high compared to other fees I've seen posted in the forum. Are these required fees that must be paid by the dealership, or are they negotiable?

    Thanks in advance.

I have been reading this forum for many years, first time posting, we leased Acura ILX 2013 with tech package in the beginning of the month. I got this deal

    First payment $300
    35 more payments of $299.97
    10000 miles per year
Above payment includes all taxes title and Lic. We are in TX (Dallas Area).
I did all the deal on the email and phone and went to the dealership to pick the car, made my first payment on the phone with a credit card.

Here's the best deal I was able to get in Central Florida after pitting several dealerships against each other:

ILX Tech with the following accessories: Pro Pack (splash guards, wheel locks, carpeted floor mats, and trunk tray) and all-weather floor mats).

36 month / $0 down (sign/drive; dealer pays all fees and first month payment) / 10,000 miles per year for $320 mo (including tax).

Thanks to everyone for all of the information in this forum. It was very helpful in my negotiations.

    Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum, but I am in need of help with my first lease deal! Here's my scenario:

I bought a car about 7 months ago (big mistake), and now I hate it. I went in to see the 2013 Acura ILX w/ Premium package. I loved it. After going back and forth with two dealers they gave me a quote at $26,545 (price of car). It's a lease deal for 10k miles year at 36 months. Once they added my negative equity which is about $3,000 the payment came out to $390.00. Do you guys think this is a good deal? Also, how is Acura with their leases? Thanks!

Great post. I'm looking for a Acura ILX Hybrid. I can lease for my business, but I need to keep my payment at about $299 a month and my goal is zero down. Is this doable in California?
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Hi litigator. The money factor that you were quoted looks good. Let's take a look at the selling price.

The dealer invoice pice of a 2013 ILX Tech is $30,438. If we subtract the available $1,750 dealer cash from that it drops to $28,688. The selling price that you were quoted is nearly $1,500 higher than that before taking into account the doc fee. That seems a little expensive to me.
