Dealer showed me 2002 1500 Silverado Specs today. Big changes coming!

MORE DEATAILS PLEASE, ANY INFO ON THE OTHER MOTORS AND TRUCKS. IF THE 5.3L is 320 HP, what is the DURAMAX, 6.0L, and 8100 numbers. You just gave me a shot of pickup viagra.

IS the Gas tank any bigger?

  • 4 wheel steering is going to go on the GMC C3, they are going to see how it works there.

    I could see frame improvements etc coming, and a better warranty that would just be another boost for GM pickups.

    Scary coming from GM, they have a tough time getting 2wds to drive without shaking, much less having the rear wheels steer also (my understanding it would use a rack-type system?)I'd definately wait a few years for this change. My 2wd x-cab steers fine, if I wanted a sports car, I would have bought one. Later

    this option is mainly for people who do alot of towing.

    Pretty neat option got to see it up close on the terradyne 2 yrs ago at the chicago autoshow. Watched about a 45 demo on it.

    They have been working on it for awhile now

    I would sure like to see a detail of all the changes and mods for 2002. Any luck on posting all the changes,colors/interior choices,and options? When will GM start accepting 2002 orders? I have ask around here, no luck from the local types. Thanks, Sir_col

    Can't see the need for 4-wheel steering to make lane changes. You shouldn't be making any quick maneuvers while towing a load. Maybe it would help maneuverablilty while trying to park your load, but providing 4-wheel steering for the purpose of making lane changes is assinine. Many years ago Honda had 4-wheel steering on their Prelude. I don't think they have it now. Can't be cost effective for a mass production vehicle. Who wants it?

    it makes lane changes smoother.

    Its real hard to explain you would have to see a demo which i and many others seen at the autoshow 2 yrs ago. Lots of people were talking about how much they would like this. Seems like a real good feature

    But it is not for everyone

    also turning radius was shortened

    Just wait and see when it comes out trust me its not assinine

    There is an interesting article on Edmund's about the 4 wheel steering, it's under the technology section off from the main page.

    They explain the benefit to towing as the trailer and truck staying in alignment when changing lanes because the rear tires actually turn in the same direction [non-permissible content removed] the front at high speed so the truck just moves sideways across the lane instead of turning. Also when turning at low speed, the rear tires steer opposite of the front and the trailer more closely follows the truck's track.

    It'll be neat to see

    It's a free country...GM can post whatever HP numbers they want. They've been doing it for years...so what else is new.

    Heck i was a body Tech at a GM dealership and knew how to use it better than the crusty veteran service techs. sad huh?

    Ok picture a 50+ year old guy coming to the NEW 20 (at the time) year old body tech to ask how to use this new computer they got!!!

    when I brought it in for warranty work. Forgot to remove the HPIII programming so ran back to the truck which they had already placed on the rack. They dropped the truck and was watching me remove the programming. They started commenting that if I knew how to work one why couldn't I do the updates to the tranny myself. Told them fine, give me the tech2...until the shop foreman walked around the corner...

    An HPIII is a hypertech product that allows you to program your ECM. (engine control module)With an HPIII you can change your transmission shift points the firmness of the shifts and tune the engine for pulling, more HP, or economy.You can also calibrate your spedometer.
