I bought Azera Limited, premium.
Do you know how to use speed sensing speaker volume control?
I tried to find the information in the manual book, but I couldn't find that. :confuse:

I think that feature is fully automatic requiring no driver input. It was on my ES300. I get a kick out of the rain sensing wipers.

It may have something to do with drugs, but I'm not entirely sure.

Maybe when road noise (speed) increases the db level (volume) automatically adjusts higher to compensate and keep the volume at the same "hearing" level as it was at lower speeds. Actually, this makes more sense. When I drive my current car, I always have to increase the volume as the car increases in speed because of road noise. I guess this will be done "automatically" in the Azera.

It is my understanding that the audio system has been calibrated based on the expected road noise levels at increasing speeds and that the sound automatically increases based on those expected increasing noise levels such that the volume stays proportionately the same (in other words...it makes it louder as you go faster, but you don't realize it because the louder sound is offset by louder noise levels of other things.)

There is no control over it; it just happens.

Sounds true enough...just makes me wonder why if we have that we also have to have a button on the steering wheel too.. isn't that a little bit of "overkill"? Gee, I remember when you had to reach over and turn the volume up on the radio knobs...and still couldn't make it loud enough to overcome the various noises of road traveling....of course that was also before A/C so the windows were down adding to the mix..hmmmmm the good ol' days... may they stay gone forever.

Oh I don't know about that. Even in the hot humid midwest summers I rarely use A/C. I love having the windows down and fresh air rushing into the car, even if it is well into the 90's.

I have a 2001 Lincoln Town Car and I can't say that I have to turn up my radio when going 85mph because there is really no noise.

Can anyone please give mesome advice on getting the Infinity Head Unit out of the dash?

The reason being...I need to fit an inline FM Transmitter to the rear of the head unit.

The FM TX is for my Harmon Kardon Drive'n'play ipod thingy.

Is anyone aware if the Infiniti Audio sysyem has an input jack located on the back ( or front) of the head into which one can plug in an IPOD cable?
If so, what is the cost of installing such an input cable, and how does it work?
I still can't get any info from Hyundai about upgrading steering wheel audio controller to 2007 model. They keep sending me from Customer Affairs dept. to Dealer part dept.
The same applises to tire pressure monitor system and lighted side view mirrors.
I wish they would get their act together.

I'm still trying to get the Infinity Head Unit out of the dash to have a look....does anyone have any suggestions. :confuse: :confuse:
I have a Hardon Karmon iPod drive'n'play system I want to install...therefore the need to remove the Head Unit to conect the iPod input.

If you go to the Hyundai service URL as described in message 3249 you can get removal instructions by following: Shop/Body Electrical/Audio System/Audio Unit/Replacement. There are diagrams. The verbal part for removal is:
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Remove crash pad center garnish. (Refer to Body Group-Crash Pad).
3.Remove the center fascia panel (A) after loosening screws. Avoid damaging retaining clips.
4. Remove connectors of digital clock and hazard switch.
5. Remove mounting screws then remove audio unit(B).

This may be a fruitless endeavor because the rear of the unit does not appear to have an audio input jack. Apart from the RF coax connector all connections are made via a 24 pin connector. I'm not familiar with HK iPod unit. You'll need to look at the pin-out under ----/Audio Unit/Component to determine if the HK unit can be interfaced via the 24 pin connector or the coax input.

After 3 hours I fially got the iPod system fitted.
Removing the Audio Unit was easy....and NO Audio inputs...just the FM input.
The iPod system has no visible wiring.
The LCD Display in on the dash and the "clickwheel" controller is easy to hand on the console.
The iPod hides in the small compartment below the heater.

I am 3 weeks into my new Azera and love it. As some others have commented the mode button taking the place of a button that can page thru stations is a little annoying. Has anyone spoken to Hyundai to see if this can be reprogramed to fix this nusiance?

Hyundai customer affairs has vacilated on this question.
I was informed by one tech that an upgrade kit was available to change switch and wire harness. Another could find no company information to verify this. The dealer service and parts department were ubable to find out any information.

I still am unable to get definite information about upgrading 2006 steering wheel audio control to new 2007 system.
Button configuration is the same size. No one seems to know if wire connector must be changed to permit additional features or if there exists additional non used wires in 2006 harness.
If anyone can get better information, kindly pass it along.

Just what does this kit cost, how long does the install take, and exactly what are the benefits over the existing setup? Does this not require a new steering wheel, so there are different buttons, or is just the outer "pad", where the buttons are, replaced?

The one thing which I find disappointing, is the inability to place the CD player full "random" mode, and thus play ALL discs in random mode, switching from one disc to another, and not just the one currently in play. On my Avalon ('95), with a 12 CD changer in the trunk, I can do this. It is a much superior system, in my opinion...

I am not sure how much it will cost in America, but it's about 13~14 bucks in Korea, take around 30 min. or less to install it.

It explains the new update for 2007 Grandeur TG in Korea, it has lots of better options than Azera, and you can see one image which has this new audio control kit in 2007 model.
You don't need to change steering wheel, just change left-side control kit with current steering wheel.
I didn't install it, so I can't tell you how it works. But it's possible to change track up/down at least.
And I don't think it allows to use random mode which you mentioned.

Local US Hyundai dealer called Hyundai US parts depot.
They claim that the wire harness must be changed to accomodate 2007 switch features. Big job.
They also claim that they were informed by Hyundai US parts department that doing so would void the part of warranty dealing with steering wheel and audio system.

If anyone has found this information to be incorrect, please post.

If Hyundai US parts depot has correct information, it seems there is no way to have the audio(seek) control feature with cheap and easy DIY.

Anyway, my friend will bring 2007 seek control kit in the end of next month and I am gonna replace it as soon as I I get it. Every work is under my responsibility!!!

One more info...this replacement only allows to change track up and down, not disk up/dn. (2007 model has smart seek control feature which is capable to change both of them and more funtions.)

I am pretty sure the radio is same in 2007 Azera.
My saying means it's possible to change only the left-side volume control kit with updated 2007 one in 2005/2006 Grandeur TG(it's korean name of Azera). And I read many posts, lots of Grandeur TG Owners already changed it and it works well. But I am told this modification allows to change track up/dn, not change cd up/dn...(2007 Model can do both of these funtions with push the button short/long...I guess we need to do another wire harness or something else if we can use same funtion of 2007 model)

I am a little bit worried after reading your post about wire harness job and warranty. But it looks same radio both Azera and Grandeur TG, hmm...need to check again...

According to Hyundai US, even installing a hard wired radar detector, such as the K40 undetectable, voids the electrical portion of the warranty.
Perhaps some Hyundai owner lawyer can give their legal position, regarding this stated position by the company.

The random all function works great if you're playing a disc loaded with MP3's. If you have them placed in folders, each folder is treated like a disc and it will shuffle through all of them on the disc. I currently have one disc in mine with about 12 hours of music on it. It would be nice if the random feature stayed on even after you've cut the car off and back on...might not hear a song twice for quite some time! *grin* Oh well...won't be worrying about it much longer...I'm getting rid of the factory radio.

If you are looking to replace the factory radio in your Azera, you will need a wire harness. If you have the Infinity stereo system, you will need a particular harness and right now, Scosche is the only one that has it available. You can call the company (800-363-4490 ext 1)
to order part #HY-08. Total cost for me (with shipping) was $17.95.

If you happen to have the Azera without the Infinity system, you would order part #HY-07.

I just installed the 07 steering wheel audio controls on my 06 Azera and they work great. The install could not have been easier.... Simply disconnect the negative battery terminal then loosen the two T-40 torx fasteners from the back of the steering wheel, drop the airbag (you do not have to unplug it) remove two philips screws, unplug the old switch and plug in the new one. Installation is the reverse of removal. The controls you gain are seek up and down on FM and AM and trak up and down (no disc change) I could not be happier....

So great to hear your results. I take it from your posting that the old harness pluged into new switch with no wiring changes. Was the part number you used 96700-3L01, at about $76.40? When you track up and down does it pick up pre-sets or all stations? How long did install take?

I just finished installing switch took me about 15 min. disconnected battery to be on safe side. Cost for the switch was 68 + 4 Tax total 72.38. I ordered it last week dealership told me that parts were on back order and will be available in Jan. but somehow it came today. Very easy installation. I was first looking for T-40 screws to be installed bottom to top. but they are sideways and all you have to do is loosen them not take it out. Thanks to post #33 Technishawn job was made easy. Really enjoying Azera. Could do with more knowledgeable service dept. and better support but hope they will improve.

Samewall, sorry it took so long for me to get back to you on this. I am replacing the factory unit with a Pioneer FH-P420MP

It's taken so long for me to get this done because when I ordered the wire harness adapter from Scosche, the harness was wired incorrectly and the factory amplifier wasn't turning on. Come to find out, they left off a wire that connects to the power on wire for the factory amp. It seems from the appearance of the harness adapter, that a noise filter was installed to eliminate the possibility of noise. I will know for sure by this weekend.

You can buy an after market product made by PAC that will let you use your existing steering wheel controls on any after market radio. Cost about $60-$70 retail.

I have twice been in contact with Harman-Becker, the manufacturer of the Infinity audio system used in the Azera.
They refuse to give out ANY information about the system in the 06 or 07 Azeras. They claim that since they build the system for Hyundai as an oem system, they consider it a Hyundai part, and that you must get the specifications from Hyundai.
Of course Hyundai Consumer Affairs tells me that they have no information pertaining to any parts, amd refer me back to dealer.
The circle keeps going round and round.
If anyone is able to get some more or any information, keep us posted.

What type of information are you looking for? You do know that the radio portion of the sound system is not made by Infinity/Harmon Kadon...only the amp and the speakers.

However, I'm surprised you got such a hard time. When I contacted them for information regarding the amp and the speakers...they gave me everything I asked for.

So, if it's about the amp and speakers, I can help you. If it's concerning the radio...sorry, they told you correct that it's a Hyundai part unless you can find out who manufactured it for Hyundai.

The radio was manufactured for Hyundai by Harman-Becker oem division, according to the person I contacted.
I am attempting to learn why the 07 steering wheel remote allows more features than the 06 even after changing the switch.
If it is a software change I assume that the 06 can be modified to the 07 software.
The only way that one can tell is to get some specifications or schematics for both year audio systems.
No one at Hyundai seems to be able or willing to lead me to a source for this information.

Here is an excerpt out of an email directly from the good people at Harmon:

"On Your factory system:
The OEM division produces only the upgraded amplifier and speakers for your factory system. The source unit is produced by another company. To this end, your dealership will be your only avenue for obtaining information on this unit as we do not have any information on these products."

I'm trying to tell you, I spoke with the folks AT the OEM department of Harman Becker and this is what THEY stated. They only produced the amplifier and the speakers. Since that makes up the majority of the sound system, Hyundai can call it an Infinity sound system.

I say all this to say that I'm pretty sure if the radio was made by them, they would provide what you're asking. I asked them to provide me information pertaining to the radio, amp and speakers. Mr. Bailey said that the radio isn't made by them so they couldn't tell me anything about it. However, he happily provided me with the information on the amp (power ratings, impedences and frequency cut offs) as well as the speakers (which would be a good replacment speaker). So I'm sure if it was their radio, they would claim it.

The question you need to be asking is...who is making the source unit (radio) for Hyundai? The good folks at Harman Becker have said that it's not them!

My contacts were James Pagano and Cherie Curry of the Harmon Consumer Group.
If your contact is correct, then someone is manufacturing the unit. How do we find out who that manufacturer is?

My initial correspondence went to Ed Carter / Web Support Specialist - JBL, Infinity, Harman Kardon who forwarded it to Michael Gill / Product Marketing Support - Asian Accounts

He informed me that the amp and speakers were made by their OEM department and he forwarded my email to Jeff Bailey (a technician from my assumption) . Jeff Bailey was the guy I spoke with and he gave me all the information I asked for.

Someone at Hyundai would have to tell you who they have manufacturing their radios.

When I removed the Infinity stereo from my 2007 Sonata Limited Ultimate to install my bluetooth kit, the radio is manufactured by Visteon. Don't know if the Azera is the same but could give you a solid lead.

Makes sensse: Visteon is owned by FoMoCo (Ford) and makes radio gear (and other parts) for Nissan and Hyundai.

No...I'm awaiting my dash kit to arrive. I was hoping it would have been here by the weekend, but it didn't arrive. So...I should have it some time this week. For sure...by this weekend, I'll be able to tell you.

I have contacted Visteon ( 800- Visteon) to attempt to determine if they are the manufacturer of the radio head unit used in the 06 and 07 Azera Ultimate.
They provided no information and referred me back to Hyundai.
And so it goes!
If anyone has better luck, please post.

Like many Floridians, I am awaiting delivery of the 07 Azeras, but I won't check with the local dealers until they have plenty on hand. I understand that all Hyundais will eventually have XM,AM,FM radios. Has anyone heard of any Azeras with such a feature?
