Does the same procedure to turn off stability control on the 04 SRX (push and hold TC button for 5 seconds) work on the 06? I have the AWD V6.

Loved this car until during a low speed right turn the stability control ENGAGED and almost yanked me into a oncoming lane of traffic!!
We live in Wyoming and these saftey features were a huge part or our reasoning for our purchase of the SRX

STOP Check out the stability system issues I have an 06 AWD V6 and the problem is BIG...I have read post after post of owners taking their SRX in and since NO electronic code is found for the problem they STOP looking for a solution!! In my case we have reported the problem to the dealer and we get the EXACT same response "no codes found". 2 days ago on a dry sunny day the stability control tried to take over nearly dragging me into an oncoming lane!!

I find it strange that the reply from GM Customer Service is not being more helpful wanting the customer to keep THEM informed. Should be the other way around. If it's a computer causing this then fix the damn thing.

kept it for a week and added 400 miles? I would charge rental fees. Sounds like they took it for a vacation.

i own a srx 06 service stability system start to show on about a month ago and speed slow down asometimes I took it to Cadillac and it will cost more than $500 to change the sensor why we should pay so much if there's obviously a recall problem? and I read many people that fixed had the problem again or worst I have to drive tomorrow to Miami (3 hrs) and I will use my sisters car cause I scare to use my cad All this is ridiculous How can we make GM to take responsibility and recall the problem ?

Add me to the list of getting the message "Check Stability System". I own an SRX 2004 AWD V8. It has less than 80,000 miles, bought the car brand new. Total lemon, I would never buy another Cadillac, or GM. So many problems with this car, and this is the latest one.

Add me to the list of getting the message "Check Stability System". I own an SRX 2004 V6. It has 70,000 miles. I have had the problem for about a year. It gradually went from a warning to warning and applying the brakes. Very scary. Dealer says he can't fix without a hard code. All I get is intermittent warnings. I now shut it off every time we drive it.

If the intermittent occurrences are frequent enough, then the dealer can certainly drive the car with diagnostic equipment attached.

I have a 2005 AWD V8 SRX with 105k miles. I'm having this problem as well. In the past, there's been a time here and there where the stability system would engage and make a grinding noise but always when in a snowy parking lot, at slow speed, making a tight turn into a parking space. Which I pretty sure is how it's supposed to work when it senses that it's sliding. Lately, however, it started doing it for no reason. Today it took it to a whole new level and did it on the street (no snow, no ice). The streets were wet but it was not slippery as I was driving at a slow speed anyway. I made a 90 degree turn from one main street to another main street, from a red light, and it engaged and felt like all the brakes were locking up. I do not feel it pulling any particular direction. It literally feels like all wheels are locking up and I'm fighting for power to get the car moving. It makes a horrific grinding noise while this is happening and the service stability system message comes up along with the traction control engaged message. I drove straight to my local shop and went on a test drive with one of the techs where it did it again on a straight road and would not release until we pulled off to the side of the road and turned the car off and on again. It literally made it impossible to drive. They pulled the codes and this is what it had:

C0242 - Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Indicated TCS Malfunction
C0252 - Vehicle Stability Enhancement System (VSES) Sensors Uncorrelated
    C0460 - Steering Position Sensor
C0461 - Steering Position Sensor Range Performance
    U1016 - Lost Communications With ECM/PCM/VCM

I'll also mention that my steering wheel has made that squeak that some people are referring to, like something is rubbing somewhere inside the column. It's been doing that for a couple years probably.

And also, I broke that plastic shield that goes under the front bumper a couple years ago and forgot to order a new one. Now water and salt are getting up there which is where the module is that controls all the abs sensors (from what the tech described). I'm not sure if that's what's causing all this since it is wet when this occurs.

The regular shop said this was above their head and I dropped it off at my dealer. Hopefully tomorrow I'll hear the diagnosis.

Despite everyone's complaints, I will say that I absolutely love this vehicle and will keep it until it is totalled or totally rusts through. I've had it for 5 years, 50,000 miles and I've never had a major issue. The only other problem I ever had was a broken axle which was 100% my fault as I drove with a warped rotor on that axle for 6 months before I got around to fixing it.

Whenever you own a fancy, complicated vehicle like this, there is the potential for complicated problems. That said, the only other problem I have is that my giant sunroof no longer works (makes clunking noise if I try to open it and I'm not stupid enough to risk it) and it's an expensive fix.

The dealer called and said it is the Steering Position Sensor. They are going to replace it for $490.

ok so I bought a 2008 SRX, I have a bad humming sound so I took it to the dealer and they said it was my tires. well I put all brand new tires on and I still have the humming. so I took it to a local mech and he said it may be my wheel bearing. so I bought two wheel bearing/hub assemblies. so my question is, is the wheel bearing/hub assembly pressed on do I need a puller to remove them or is it just in place by the three required bolts on the back side. any help would help me out. thanks

I recently bought the 2008 SRX. The vehicle was very well maintained and only has 52,000 miles on it. I find that whenever I drive more than 35 mph the Traction Control system (TCS) light comes on. From reading comments it appears that this is a problem with the steering sensor.
Has anyone found that did not work or is there another potential remedy?
Why has GM not issued a recall for this as it appears to be a common problem?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
There are many possibilities here, not just the steering angle sensor. So it's not a guessing type of problem. It has to be methodically diagnosed. The TCS doesn't really "exist" as one entity--it is composed of many items, any one of which could be creating the problem.

So who did this work---Cadillac dealer or indie shop or ???
  • justwendyw67justwendyw67 Member Posts: 2
I had it replaced at the Chevrolet dealership by their Cadillac service guy. its so bad i cant drive 10 mph because the brakes lock up.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
So you're taking it back in obviously....if they can't solve it, come back and maybe we can point you to an electronics specialist.

I just purchased a 2012 SRX a week ago, yesterday we noticed that the steering wheel is not straight, not sure if it was like that when we bought it and we just didn't notice it until now, but I did notice that on my way home from work that it seemed like the steering was very sensitive (more than usual).  This morning on my way to work, a warning light came on saying to service Stabilitrak.  After reading all of the post, I'm nervous about driving it :(  we called our local Cadillac dealer, they are running a diagnostics on it now, but they said that if it needs any repairs, they can't take it until December.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
No, no, don't take that lying down. Tell them it is a safety hazard and send a note to the General Manager to that effect, and that you want it repaired or have them give you a loaner. But first I think you'll have to wait for the diagnosis to finish.

I recently bought a 2004 SRX for myself and kiddos. I being a female, thought I was buying something reliable for us. I had it a day before the change oil light came on. Got it to the shop and he came back out to tell me they just forgot to reset the light. When he did that, the check engine light came on for catalytic converter failure. I immediately took it to the shop where it sat two days before arguing with them to fix it. Where it then sat for another 2 weeks. Once I got it back, I hit a bump, not even a very big bump, that sent the car swerving. ABS light came on, traction control light came on and a warning on the screen for stability. I have no idea what I should do with it now. Any feed back would be helpful!

I believe some of these lights will come on when 'system' is activated, meaning ABS is active, traction control is activated, ETC, Did any of the lights mention service this or that (such as service stabilitrak system) ?

Recently purchased a 2004 SRX. After only couple days loud noise from rear. Just as many others on here, diagnosed with transfer case failure. Not sure whether it's worth fixing. Have there been any updates from GM in regards to this issue?

I as well own a 2011 Cadillac SRX premium, I had my car parked got in it, turned it on it was in park but I felt it try to lunge forward and started shaking, the Service Stabilitrak light along with a wrench illuminated, I put my car into drive and it would hardly go like it had very little power, I was only about 2 blocks from home, got here and parked it.
This is where my story is different, I actually have a friend who is a master tech at one of the Cadi dealerships, he has helped me out in the past and saved me a fortune, I immediately called him and asked him to come look at my car, he brought his code reader from work and hooked it up. The code said it was a bad right front hub, he agreed to fix it for me, this is where it gets weird, he texted me today and said I have nothing to worry about and sent this, "So there is a service bulletin that came out in may addressing false speed sensor codes on the 2010 11 srx. Its software related. Don't sweat it. Your car is fine." I replied back that NO my car is not fine and told him I had searched everywhere to find and read this service bulletin only for him to respond with this, "They are not for public consumption.  It is an internal engineering issue." So it appears GM is also lying to the people who work for them and work on our cars. I'm beyond disgusted with GM and the mods on this board, YOU all know this is a serious problem, this thread goes back at least 7 years when will GM step up and make this right?

I have a 2011 SRX. Recently while returning from a road trip, some idiot almost killed us by cutting us off and forcing my husband to swerve violently to avoid being run off the road. The Stablitrack light immediately came on and we have been unable to turn it off. Our mechanic said these are nearly impossible to get rid of and after reading everything we could online, it seems he is right. Here's the real problem, after the car has been idle and it is started up again, the first time the brake is used (sometimes just backing out of the driveway) it feels like the car is going to fall apart. It feels like the brake is lose and is hitting somewhere on the undercarriage and the car starts to shutter.
Obviously, GM has failed their responsibility to issue a recall to correct the problem. I guess they're waiting for a few fatalities before they spend some of the money they ripped off from their customers. Disgusting!!

my Cadillac SRX 2006 stability system light has been coming on today for my first day going to my new job when turning into left leg all wheels locked and jilted and abruptly haulted my car. I am female, and older. here is a list of issues the car now has after I've had it for just 3 year

Gas gauge does not work so I have to calculate how much gas is in my car I ran out of gas a couple times on the road so now I travel with a gas can

sunroof does not work hatch does not work won't open and is it possible to manually open it. rear backup lights do not work Left Driver side blinker goes out often within a couple days of being replaced and it cost me $65 to do do
Theft system light is on along with theft system alert which is on repeatedly

Check engine light has been on since I bought the car as is, I was walking to work for 6 months and saved up money for a car and this was the only car and they had at the time and I needed it because I was staying sick walking to work in three feet of snow everyday

there is also an exhaust leak that sounds like the muffler has a crack in the cadalic converter or such

I would love nothing more than to push it off a cliff ir into a pond and walk away

I am also a writer in which I write reviews, my reviews have received over 35,000 viewers I will be writing a review on this brand of car and GM needs to be put out of business for stiffing people

Hello, I have a 2006 SRX 6 cyl, AWD and have intermittantly been receiving the Service Stability System but this time I received the whole problem with the ABS and T/C Lights and information messages also.
I saw rrider post that "just today took the srx in to address the the stability system issue....there have been a number of recalls and apparently some coverage is available via the waaranty till 2013!"

    1) Is there a place I can go to find out about these recall items?
    2) This is the first I have seen in this post of a 2006 having the problem. Is there any one else? I can just hear the dealer saying well this is only a problem on the 2004's and no warranty for 2006 - yet.
    3) It seems the steering sensor is the fix most of the time, true? Was this the piece under recall?

    Thanks in advance...

06 srx rwd. Service stability system came on immediately after having both cats replaced. Code said break sensor under pedal according to aamco, replaced but problem still happening. Break pads and speed sensors replaced. My concern is it wasnt an issue until the cats were replaced. Only has 56k miles
