'06 B6 VW Passat 2.0T starting issues- clicking noises when trying to start

Hi All ,
I am new to the forum, but has been driving my car for 7 years. My 2006 VW passat 2.0T (FSI motor) with 128xxx miles worked/started flawlessly until yesterday afternoon, and out of the blue it refused to start yesterday evening (when I tried to start it yesterday, it gave me the clicking noises and refused to start). I was able to get the car started yesterday by jump starting it, but an error message "Steering Column lock defective" appeared on the screen and the steering column icon was active and in red, but after a few minutes I turned off the car and restarted and the error message cleared itself and the car ran normal, so I did not think much of the issue yesterday until it happened again today.

I am again unable to start the car today, and I get the same clicking noises when I try to start () (the video is from today morning when I tried to start the car). What do you guys think is the problem? I hope it is something simple like replacing the battery, and I hope I don't have the replace the entire steering column for the tune of almost $1800. Please help!! By the way I never replaced the battery and I am the original owner of the car. If it is a dead battery, then why is it not not flashing the battery icon? And I was able to start the car a few times yesterday after the jump start with out any issues. I am confused

I JUST had this problem last week - got a jump a couple times & was able to drive it around all day making stops with no problem - until I would leave it for a period of 20+ hours...then I'd need another jump. (Each time your battery dies, it's NOT unusual for the car to display random warning lights at first when you get it started, until you drive it a bit and it "works itself out".) In my case, it turned out it WAS just the battery (I worried about alternator, starter, & asked the same questions about warning lights or lack thereof). Fortunately, I'd last replaced the battery 2-1/2 years ago via AAA's Mobile Battery Service, & since their warranty offers free replacement up to 3 years, my final bill was $0. (I first took it to a Pep Boys for a free charging system check to rule out the other parts & zero in on the cause, before I called in the AAA Road Service.) Mine's a 2006 at 130K miles, which I purchased at 40K miles in 2008.
