I get $649/mo, but add in the $725 acquisition fee and that is spot on...

There are $1500 in drive/option credits from BMW on that model, so take that into account when deciding if the selling price is a good offer.

Thank you so much, yes I omitted the bank fee. Funny, I can't get the car as described (equipped) to me to align with Edmunds True Value Invoice price, etc. I must have an option wrong or something.

About the selling price, etc. beyond the $1500. credits you mention there is the factory money coming to the dealer as well, right?

    All...

I'm about to close on a new 535d. I keep seeing residual values of approx 60% on this forum, but dealer is insisting that BMW FS is not offering 60%. Is there some way I can confirm this? Have any of you closed a deal that shows a residual of about 60%?

  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 236,681

    A 2014 535d (or 535xd) has a residual of 58% for a 36mo, 15K/yr lease. For 36mo, 12K/yr, the residual is 60%.

Dealers can't play around with residuals.

Hi- can someone tell me if this is a good deal? Thanks!

528i with xdrive. Alpine white with cinnamon. Premium package, cold weather package and park assist (camera too)- msrp around $57,400

Don't know the residual but it's "the same across the board" sales associate said.

I have the USAA inventive which is like $500 on a lease I think.

Sales price- $51,400 (6k off sticker)
    MF- .00130
    36 mo/10k per year
$1700 down total, includes first month
    $539 plus 7% sales tax monthly- $579.

The math works out... with the base money factor and 63% residual. I wouldn't say residuals are "the same across the board", but I'm sure what the CA meant was, "We can't change them or screw you on them, so don't worry about it". LOL

$1500 of BMW incentives on that model, so your price looks very good. Is 10K/yr enough miles? You can go to 12K/yr for about $15/mo, plus tax..

Hi - just looking for residuals and mf's for both 2013 535xi and 2014 535xi's-looks like there is a $3500 dealer credit on 2013's? I'm eligible for the pull ahead program and my dealer has both 13 & 14's in stock.

    2013: .00130 MF and 51% residual for 36mo, 15K/yr lease. $3500 incentive.

    2014: .00130 MF and 59% residual... $1500 incentive.

That 2013 is going to have to be a lot cheaper, to result in a lower lease payment.

Thanks Carman - makes sense. I'm guessing the 14 is going to be a better deal with a higher residual and higher MSRP.

  • sunny48sunny48 Member Posts: 24

I am looking at a 528i x with a MSRP of $61,400 with all the add ons. I've been given a selling price of 55,800 with monthly rate of $633 for 36 mos/12K. I was told there was an incentive of $1500.

The MF is .00150 (which I think is high as I was offered .00130 and .00126 on a 3series last month) and the residual is 62% which I believe is good. Does one number balance out the other? The buyout is 38,068 at the end.

Drive away cost is $3794 and I have breakdown of the fees: state sales tax is the highest at $1966, bank fee 725, new plates 250, state tire disposal fee 12.50, titling 75, inspection 10, fuel surcharge (BMW fill up) 60, state tax on fees 62.

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

I just found this great place to figure out MF rates: http://sharplease.com/MoneyFactor

So, I now know that the MF my dealer offered at .00150 was not a "good Deal", which was what I suspected.

    MF .00150 = 3.6%
    MF .00130 = 3.119%
    MF .00125 = 3%

Currently looking at leasing a 535xi service car with 5500 miles on it. MSRP is $64,025.00 with packages including cold weather, driver assistance and premium package.

    Selling Price: 54,750.00;
    Rebates: $1500.00;
    Residual: $36,915 (60%-1500 for miles on car);
    Money Factor: 00150 (3.60%)

Kyfdx - can you confirm money factor?

Does this look to be a good deal? Accounting for miles makes it difficult to compare apples to apples.

NO, I don't think this is all that good of a deal.. The money factor is marked up from the base rate of .00130. Also, does your sell price include the rebate? that should be a separate issue. I would push for the 54750 minus the rebate of $1500 and you may wish to consider MSD's to lower the money factor further, if you have the cash available.

The base money factor is .00130. Your residual is correct. The reduction is $0.30/mi. for every mile over 500.

So, when comparing it to leasing a new one, your selling price should be at least $1500 lower than what you would pay for a brand-new unit (hopefully, a lot more..).

kyfdx - If I get the MF down to the base of .00130, and the residual stays at 62%, how are the rest of my numbers? And, will they drop my residual % if they lower my MF, to make up the difference?

528i x with a MSRP of $61,400 including add ons. Selling price $55,800 with monthly rate of $633 for 36 mos/12K. (MSDs are not allowed in my state (NY), so are not an option.) I think the $1500 incentive was already included in the sale price.

Should the selling price be lower, considering the rebate? Should I ask for a better price, or is this a good deal?

    Thank you.

I don't really follow the market that closely, so I wouldn't want to judge your selling price. They can't change the residual. That is set by BMWFS. If they drop the rate to .00130, that will drop your payment by about $18/mo, + tax... so, you should see that sort of improvement.

Thank you. Another dealer did give me the lower MF, but the payments only dropped by $10 a month, so his numbers might be fuzzy. He gave a higher acquisition fee of $925. When I questioned it, it was dropped to $725.

Now, I am trying to find out what the best selling price would-be.

    A few questions - looking at a 528i or possibly 740i -

    • The lease special / incentive right now. Does it go best price and then $1,500 off ? Has anyone done better than invoice price on this ?

Looking at msrp of 52,500 and it looks like invoice is about 48,000 for that - should I be able to get 46,500 as the final price then ?

    • There is a special for the 740, free package ? How does that work ?
    • I got money factor and residual verified - if I need higher mileage, do I pre pay or is there a residual for 18,000 miles ?

Thanks - looking to close tuesday

You might have a hard time getting invoice minus incentives.. Especially on a higher-priced model. In my experience, it usually takes $700-$1500 over that to get a deal done. Doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to do better, though... it happens sometimes.

All 2014 7-series have a no-charge M-Sport package. This package's price has been subtracted from the Monroney sticker and also the wholesale invoice. So, in calculations, you should use the bottom line of the MSRP to calculate residual (as it will reflect the lower price), and leave that option off when calculating the invoice price.

The extra 9K miles for a 36mo, 18K/yr lease reduce the residual on a per-mile basis. I'm not sure what that per mile charge is... on a 5-series or 7-series.. On a 3-series it is $0.15/mi., but it might be more on a more expensive model.

Add 2% for 12K/yr. Lease numbers are the same for both models.

Thank you very much! I had seen these numbers floating around, but was looking for the definitive ones for this month.

How is the $1500 applied? It appears that this is only part of lease deals that they are advertising that includes money down, etc. Is this money available for a lease (purchase) that I negotiate (without money down, etc.), taken off AFTER we have agreed to the price and hence the lease?

    Thanks again!

You can definitely do a lease with zero down. I'm not sure how the money has to be applied. It's possible that you'll have to apply it as a CAP cost reduction, but you can still structure the lease to account for that. I would bring it up during negotiations. Otherwise, you might be expecting $1500 more off, and they'll tell you it's already included.

It's NJ. This is the breakdown of the downpayment:
    First Month $525.77
    Bank Fee $725
    Doc Fee $359
    NJ Tax $1400.82
    Luxury Tax $203.25
    DMV $304.50
    Tire Tax $6.00

I didn't check about the MSD's but cant see why they wouldn't allow it. Should I have them roll all the taxes into my monthly payments instead of being out of pocket upfront for the $3500?

.00130 MF and 62% residual. $1500 option credit. There is a pull ahead program that will cover up to three payments, if your lease is up in the current quarter.

Ok need to know what you guys think of this deal. I have leased two BMW's before and finishing my X5 lease in another few months and am looking to get a 2014 550i Msport in moonstone metallic with the executive package.
Msrp of $74,125 sales price including $1,500 BMW incentive is $67,325. Sales tax in Ca 5,731. Tag/reg fees of $508 and minor fees of $139 bringing total back up to $73,708. 36 month lease w/12,000 miles a year. MF of .00170 and a residual of $45,216. $3,500 total down gives me a monthly payment of exactly $845 a month out the door. Orrrrrrrrr......7 MSDs totaling $7,454 gives me a MF of .00121 and a monthly payment of $844 out the door. Are these good deals? Thanks so much

They might show you estimated sales tax on a screenshot, but CA taxes the monthly payment. If they are adding sales tax into your CAP cost, they are doing it wrong. Are you shopping out of state?

That is what seemed weird to me. This is cut right from the sheet I was sent
    PURCHASE OPTION
    Vehicle Price: $74,125.00
    Savings: - $6,800.00
    Vehicle Selling Price: $67,325.00

    Sales Tax (estimate): + $5,731.89
    Tag/Registration Fees (estimate): + $508.00
    Flat Add/County Fee: + $10.00
    Electronic Filing: + $29.00
    Smog Abatement Fee: + $20.00
    Documentation Fee: + $80.00
    Balance Due (estimate): $73,703.89

The MF is .00170 and residual is $45,216 with a cash due of $3500 for 36 months at 12k a year my payment is $845
Or with 7 MSDs giving a total down of $7454 I got back this at a MF of .00121 my payment is $844
Am I missing something? I thought MF was .00130 to start with and with 7 MSD shouldn't it be .00130-.00049=.00081?
My numbers are way off what is coming back to me from them. Also they want me to move quickly because 2014 spots are almost gone which makes me think maybe I wait for a 2015?
    Thanks for the help

The MF is definitely marked up from the base rate of .00130. Residual is 61% so the $45,216 is on the nose.

My calculations using the $67,325 selling price gives a pre-tax payment of $760.44 - add 9% tax and you're at $828.87.

Reducing the MF to .00081 gives $705.29 w/o tax and $768.77 after.

I still don't get why the dealer is insisting the tax be paid upfront. That's not how it works in CA, I'm told.

Perhaps it's time to start working with another dealer, if only to get them negotiating against one another.

I'm thinking the same thing. Maybe time to move on but I am really thinking of now holding out for a 2015 that should hopefully be announced soon.

Right at the top, it states: PURCHASE OPTION. That is if you buy the vehicle, not lease it...

does BMW offers "loyalty credit" for current BMW lease holders?

There is a 'pull ahead' program if you have a current BMW lease - if your lease ends in April, May or June BMWFS will waive 3 payments. If your lease ends anywhere from July to December, they will waive up to 6 payments.

There is also a $1500 option credit for all 5-series.

The only loyalty credit I see is for current X3 leaseholders.

When I plug all your numbers in, I get a post-tax payment of $704.75. Not sure why there is a difference with your numbers, but I can tell you that the dealer did not mark up either the MF or the Acquisition Fee, which is good.

Residual is 59%($34,588.75). $1,500 credit. Discount is $3,695.00. Due at signing is $2,406.81 which includes $637.51 first month payment, $725 bank fee (plus $50.75 tax on fee), $369 Doc Fee ($25.85 tax on fee[7%]), $385 for plates, registration etc. and $215.72 excise tax. MF =.00081 (I think). I am pulling ahead the last 4 months of my lease on a 328xi. What say you on this deal?

It's likely your money factor is .00130, as the .00081 is only available if you are doing multiple security deposits.

I am doing 7 security deposits. How much better should I be doing than $637.51 with no money down?

If you are happy with the selling price, then the numbers are all good. You've got the base rates, all the way through..
