Some folks looking at the 2014 MDX are interested in cargo volume when cross-shopping the MDX with the competition (Re:Baseballmom97 in post #48, comparing GMC Acadia, or upscale sibling Buick Enclave). The following print/video reviews by Alex Dykes help compare the 2014 MDX (link title ) to the 2013/14 Enclave (link title) and other rides in this segment. Click on excellent video commentary embedded within print reviews.

I am also looking forward to Alex Dykes reviews of the soon to be released 2014 Toyota Highlander (@ dlr showrooms Q1 2014), and the 2015 Honda Pilot (@ dlr showrooms Q2--> Q3 2014), and of course test drive them to see how these compare to the 2014 MDX before I make a final purchase decision.

Also, much better pricing/discounts on 2014/15 MDX should be in place Q1/2015, if you can wait ~15 months.

Cross-shopping the 2014 MDX AWD + Tech with the 2014 Highlander AWD LTD?

Check the following video reviews by Alex Dykes to see how these two SUVs compare in feature content, style, performance and price:

2014 Toyota Highlander AWD LTD and LTD + Platinum Pkg Video link: (http:// "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8s4sXF-S8w")

2014 Acura MDX AWD + Tech Video link: (http:// "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX1ebP8yeF4")

While many would consider comparing these two SUVs is like comparing apples (MDX AWD + Tech = luxury mid-size SUV) and oranges (Highlander AWD LTD/+ Platinum Pkg = near luxury mid-size SUV), families with kids do cross-shop these vehicles. My take: MDX has the edge over the Highlander in style (design language) and performance (acceleration and AWD handling); Highlander has the edge over MDX in price by $6-10 K when feature content and options are the same, and in user friendliness of the improved Highlander Entune infotainment system over that of the MDX. Both are great rides. What's your take?

A not so hot review from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

"The touch-screen radio-HVAC control system has cemented itself as the system I never, ever want, especially in a big crossover. Want to adjust the seat heating? Press the seat heater touch-screen button, then get a row of buttons to adjust heating or cooling. Want to adjust where the air is flowing? Touch screen. Want to change the radio station? Press audio, then pick from the choices."

Driver's Seat: Acura MDX is a big beast with flaws

Cross- shopping the 2014 MDX AWD + Tech with the 2014 Dodge Durango AWD LTD or Citadel ?

Why would I do that, you say. Well they are both great rides, they both are 3-row mid-size CUVs/SUVs, but you have some towing concerns--- then you may want to consider the Dodge Durango AWD LTD or Citadel, which has much better room in the 3rd row, and much better towing capacity than the MDX.

    **PROs/CONs: **

-MDX: More refined exterior styling, Acura badging, better MPG

-Durango: More muscled/macho styling, better towing by 1,200 lbs (with the V6: 6,200 lbs vs 5,000 lbs) or up to 2400 lbs (with the V8: 7,400 lbs vs 5,000 lbs), better (ZF) transmission (and the MDX transmission has been somewhat problematic in past), better acceleration (with 5.7 Hemi V8), nicer and more user friendly infotainment system, front passenger seat lumbar (power) option (MDX nada), more room for third row passengers, better pricing when options are equivalent, better MPG (26-30 MPG) and torque when V6 Eco-diesel power plant arrives in 2015.

You may find the following excellent print (and embedded video) reviews by Alex Dykes helpful:

2014 MDX is a Top Pick (Plus) for Safety Award by IIHS for 2014

The 2014 MDX is not only a winner when it comes to design and performance but also when it comes to keeping our families safe. The MDX is one of only a couple of mid-sized SUVs that excelled in the 2014 IIHS safety awards.

2014 MDX Review and Comparison to the Infinity QX60

    Check it out: (http:// "http://www.truedelta.com/Acura-MDX/car-reviews-293/2014")

The MDX beats the QX60 in most measures, except the QX60 has more interior lux, a more user friendly infotainment system, and the nice Around View camera Monitor system on the QX60 (although the MDX does offer a similar system, Surround View, but it is currently only available at Acura dealers in Canada; perhaps we will see Acura's Surround View Monitor/camera system in the Advance Pkg in the 2015 MDX at US dealers?).

Consumer Reports Changes it's rating of 2014 MDX from 79---> 81

Interestingly, CR changed it's rating of the MDX from 79---> 81 in the June 2014 issue; last month it was 79. Go figure! Check it out: (http:// "http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/acura/mdx.htm")

Head-to-Head Review: 2014 Toyota Highlander versus 2014 Acura MDX

    (http:// "http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/latest-reviews/luxury-label-new-2014-toyota-highlander-upset-victory-acura-mdx-article-1.1724339")

Actually, these two are cross-shopped a lot. Personally, I like the MDX better, except for the user unfriendly infotainment system; hopefully Apple CarPlay will help improve that MDX shortcoming.

Check out the following video review by Brian Cooley of CNET (especially the first 4 minutes) which addresses my concerns of the MDX infotainment system shortcomings: (http:// "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQ_rmSSQlro")

Are Keyless Ignition Safeguards in place on the new/used 2014 MDX, like a timed auto shut-off, to eliminate the risk of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, when you have an attached garage?

Does anyone know if the 2014 MDX has built-in keyless ignition safeguards, like a timed auto shut-off, to eliminate the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, if you have an attached garage? And if not, is there a recall in place yet to reto-fit/fix this problem?

Check out the following link: http://abcnews.go.com/US/keyless-ignitions-led-carbon-monoxide-deaths-recalled-suit/story?id=33344253

At the very least, this car tech deficiency can cost the car owner lots of wasted gas and bad MPG #'s, and at the worst it can kill the owner and the entire family!

Additional References on the Keyless Ignition risk of CO Poisoning, and Acura's Legal Exposure

Some have argued these inexpensive auto shut-off safeguards are unnecessary, and that drivers who forget to turn off their keyless ignition cars in their garage before they exit their vehicle are 'stupid' and shouldn't be driving at all. I disagree. After all we are human, and we all occasionally make mistakes. This occurs with some frequency when people get distracted by their kids or grand kids, etc, or having a senior moment. While it probably happens more than we might think on non-hybrid models, it probably occurs much more on the ultra quiet hybrids like the Accord, Camry and Prius! Sometimes people need to be protected from themselves, and I believe requiring Acura and other mfg's installing an inexpensive auto-off switch on keyless ignition cars is one of them, when a stupid mistake or forgetfulness could cost someone and their family's lives from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Heck, one could make the same argument for the necessity of safety features that are showing up on most cars like blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, etc, etc, because if the 'stupid' driving public would only look into their side and rear view mirrors properly and turn their head a little over their right shoulder like they are suppose to before changing lanes in traffic to check their blind spots we shouldn't need those safety features (and other safety nannies) either, right, yet the auto manufactures (including Acura) claim these features make driving safer (and I agree), and are putting them on more and more of their products/cars.

Requiring the auto mfg's to retro-fit/fix this problem/tech deficiency seems to me to be a no-brainer, before more people are injured or die from keyless ignition carbon monoxide related poisoning.

If Acura does not intervene in a timely fashion and right a wrong in their cars, like issue a TSB and/or recall, for those Acura cars already sold that have keyless ignitions, it's not only terrible for the owners who will continue to be injured and killed by carbon monoxide poisoning due to this issue, it can be very expensive to Acura, like the unintended acceleration suit that cost Toyota at least one billion dollars not so long ago.
