Are the new numbers out for April regarding money factor, residual value and dealer incentives/holdbacks for a 2015 BMW X3? Thanks!

Have not seen any numbers for the 2015 model X3s, yet.

I'm reading posts with lease deals that have significant money down parameters. I was from the school that you never put any money down in a lease deal. Thoughts?

I agree... Due at signing should be as close to the 1st payment amount as possible.

Can anyone let me know if this is fair deal:

    2014 X3 28i with MSRP of $48,775, 36 month lease, 10K miles per year

$1,265 total drive off and $498.60 per month (before tax)

    Thanks.

Assuming base money factor of .00120 and 57% residual, the CAP cost would be approx. $42,700 to get that payment. Assuming your drive-off includes the acquisition fee, that results in a discount of $6075 from MSRP. Considering the $2000 incentive on this model, the $4075 discount is 8.35% of MSRP.. That seems very fair.. If the CAP cost includes the acquisition fee and the other $765 of drive off charges is for other taxes/fees, it's an even better deal.

Thanks! I believe the drive off included first month's payment, license/registration, and a very small amount of cap reduction. Would it be beneficial to try and move the acquisition fee into the driveoff? I think it was built into the cap cost.

  • stevenlee4stevenlee4 Member Posts: 29

Ignore that last question, I just reread your comment and I understand your meaning: the acq. fee as part of the cap cost actually equates to an even greater discount off MSRP. Thanks for your help on that. Lastly, do you see any benefit to waiting until the 2015s arrive, perhaps even greater build out cash or further buy down on the MF?

I don't have a crystal ball... but, this is the best lease program they've had on the X3, since it was a new model in 2011. It's possible that it could get better, but not likely by much.

Plenty of people order new vehicles before the lease programs are available. It happens at almost every model year changeover. If 2015 models are due in dealerships in April, I would assume they will be in the programs that come out on April 1st.

We don't have real-time access to the lease programs, so if something has come out since March 1st, we probably wouldn't have it.

I've seen some references regarding MSD and had a couple of questions on them. I live in NY and I was told that MSD isn't legal in NY. Is this correct? NYC or whole NY?
If so, can I lease in NJ and put MSD even if my billing addy and license is in NYC?
What happens to the MSD I put down if car is totaled during lease term?
    Thanks for patience

The security deposit in NYS is restricted to $750. We have many anecdotal posts about NYS residents leasing in NJ, and using the MSD program. They all report that they still used NYS addresses, and were able to participate in the MSD program.

Everything points to your MSDs not being at risk, if you total the car... However, I've yet to hear of any actual cases from someone that has happened to. (the percentage of MSD users is small, as is the number of people that total their car). I've done MSDs on 3 vehicles and it's always worked as advertised..

Am I calcing this properly: using the above example of X3 28i MSRP 48,775, Selling price of 42,700, 57% residual, .0012MF rate, 3y/10k with a monthly pretax pmt of $498..using 7 MSD brings mf rate to .00071 and a new monthly pmt of $463 for a savings of $34/month and $1,224 net? Each security deposit is $750? So upfront payment of $5,250 for MSD at signing?

All correct, except each security deposit is the monthly payment rounded up to the next $50 increment.. so, if the full payment is between $450-$500, then each security deposit will be $500, for a total of $3500.

Carman - Can you please provide the MF and Residual on 2014 x28i for X3 in NJ. Looking for 30 or 36 months? also besides the $2000 build out cash, are there any other discounts available for current BMW owners? My lease is coming to an end in 5 months on a 3 series.

.00120 MF and 54% residual for 36mo, 15K/yr. $2000 build out cash. No other incentives, but there is a pull-ahead program for leases expiring in the 3rd quarter. Up to 6 payments forgiven.

How about a 30 month lease? is residual and MF better for 30 month than 36 month please? My current lease ends in Sep 2014. How does the pull ahead program work? How can we get all the 6 payments waived? Please help. Thanks Ankur

MF stays the same for 30 months, but the residual increases to 57%.

The pull ahead program allows your BMW dealer to waive up to 6 payments on an existing lease that expires between July and December 2014 if you buy or lease another BMW.

Looking to lease or buy a 2014 X3. Would appreciate some help on the components and math, please:

    1. MSRP - what can I expect off of MSRP? I know there is a $2k options credit + we did a test drive and got a code for $1k off. I have been hearing $5k-$9k off of MSRP can be had on 2014's - is this possible?
    2. Is it better to work off of dealer invoice? If so, what should I be looking for, please?
    3. Is it true that dealer invoice has $1,500-$2,500 padding for the dealer?
    4. What is the best mf (money factor) for the X3? .0012?
    5. RSV - 54-57%?
    6. What other fees are negotiable, please? Assuming interest rate of 3.9 but will shop it at our credit union.

    Thanks in advance!

I'd shoot for invoice minus any rebates/credits. That might not be achievable, but it's a good place to start. Dealer's definitely get back end money from BMW, and that might factor into whether they'll go below invoice, but in most cases, they won't. They have to pay the bills, somehow, and they can't do that on $500 over invoice deals.

The money factor and residual on a 36mo, 15K/yr lease is .00120 and 54%. BMWFS' best interest rate is 3.19% APR on purchases.

Thanks! When you say invoice, I'm assuming you mean dealer invoice as shown on Edmunds.com? When I use the pricing calculator the rec. True Market value is showing LOWER than dealer invoice - maybe because of 2014 model inventory vs. new 2015 models arriving this month?

    Ex: Dealer Invoice $42,700, MSRP $46,050 & True Market = $41,500

So with this example, you would be looking for Dealer Invoice $42,700 - less rebates.

(Note: I think the $2k build options are stated as off of MSRP - not sure if we can expect them off of dealer invoice. But sure can try!)

    Thanks again!

TMV takes into account the $2000 build out credit.. so, that's why it shows under invoice, I would think.

Hi kyfdx. My wife negotiated the following lease deal w/a NJ dealership for a 2014 X3 x28i and I'd like to know whether the numbers seem fair.

White exterior w/oyster seats, premium and cold climate package; 12k mi/yr. for 36 mths.

    MSRP: $45,275
    Selling Price: $39,763
    Mthly. lease payment: $509

    Taxes: $1361.64
    Tag & Title Fees: $318.50
    Processing Fees: $299
    Acq. fee: $725

    MF: .00130
    RV: $27,105

No money down. Taxes rolled into payments and fees paid upfront.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Also, does BMW offer MSD's? How much would it reduce the payments?

I can't get the numbers to match up, because that residual is way off. On that model, with that term/mileage, the residual should be 56% of MSRP, which is $25,354.

If I use the base rate of .00120 and residual of 56%, and add the taxes to your selling price for a CAP cost of $41,125, then I get a payment of $517/mo. that's close to your $509, but not using the numbers she was provided.

Providing 7 MSDs gives a discount of .00049 to the money factor.. At this level, that's about $32/mo. savings.

CAR PURCHASED! I took the delivery of 2014 X3 x28i today from Paul Miller BMW.
    10k miles, 36 months.
Driver Assistance Package, Cold Weather, Technology and Premium. Black non metallic exterior with Nevada black leather.
    MSRP - 49725. Negotiated price - 42,000. That's a discount of 15.53% over MSRP.

    • Doc Fee = 299, Acquisition Fee - 725, NJ registration - 329.
    • MF - 0.00071 (with 7 MSD)
    • Residual - 57%
    • I had a trade in with a negative equity of 5984 which was added into the lease. All Fees rolled into the lease. No Taxes because of tax benefit from trade in.
    • Monthly payment - 638.34
    • Upfront - First Month + 7 MSD = 5188
    • I think it was a good deal considering the negative equity I had on my 2008 Q7 which was guzzling money on maintainence like crazy now.
    • Used the pull ahead program to turn in the 2011 328xi as well (5 payments forgiven)
  • casperspookscasperspooks Member Posts: 8

Thanks kyfdx. The numbers didn't add up for us either. The leasing mgr. told my wife that the RV on all BMW's is 60%. That was not accurate based on our research but we figured it worked to our advantage.

Looking to lease a 2014 X3 2.8 (XDrive). MSRP is $52,075...have a commitment from the dealer at $45,565 (truecar.com pricing). They are telling me that the TrueCar pricing is only eligible for a .00160 MF. Seems kind of high...not sure why a negotiated sales price warrants a higher MF. Anyhow, the quoted deal is $562/mo (+tax) with $2,097 out of pocket. Not sure if I am getting hosed here. Any incite would be appreciated!!

Another option is the same car without the Msport package - MSRP of $49,075 and a negotiated price of $42,835. No figures yet on this deal. Any advice?

Not sure I understand the connection between TrueCar and the inflated money factor, unless it's the dealers way of making up some money they give to TrueCar for the lead.

You should be able to negotiate a similar price on your own and get the base MF.

I think you've found that TrueCar quotes really mean nothing... It's just a company that the dealer pays $300 to, for a lead...

Can you confirm the current lease rates for the 2014 X3 x28i are as follows:
    .00120 MF and 56%/57% residual for 36mo, 12k/10k/yr?

Up to 7 MSDs reduce MF by .00007 each?

I just got this quote from a dealer for a 36 mo. lease w/ 10k/yr:
    -MF: .00137
    -Res: 57%
    -Bank Fee: $925

Seems like he's padding the MF and adding $200 to the acquisition fee. The quote also includes an $80 "documentation fee" which I'm assuming is tacked on by the dealer.

    Thanks!

    Correct.

    Close - .0007, not .00007

Yes, both the MF and acquisition fee are being bumped by the dealer for additional profit.

The $80 may be mandated by the state.

Thank you! Are the numbers any different for the 2015 X3s?

    A little ... MF is .00133 and residual is 55% / 56% for 12K and 10K.

Just wanted to let folks know the deal I got on my X3. This forum has been so helpful. I initiated a query through TrueCars and right away I was emailed by South Bay BMW (Redondo Beach, CA) and was guaranteed $6,615 savings from MSRP on the car I wanted. After some additional haggling and contacting other dealers to see if they could beat their price (which none could) I saved $7,600 (including the $2000 rebate) of MSRP ($46,125) for a capitalized cost of $38,525. I paid a $925 bank fee although I know I could have asked for $725, but I was getting a good enough deals that I didnt want to bother. I wanted the salesman to make something after spending all that time with me. The money factor was .0012 which was reduced by .00049 for a new money factor of .00071 because I put down 7 multiple security deposits. My monthly payment with tax is $466 for 36 months and 12,000 miles. The residual was 56%. I had a great experience with this dealership.

At a BMW dealer in Northern California (very nice people). BMW X3 lease quote was off the charts compared to the numbers you guys are getting! This is a 2014 X3 xDrive 28i model with zero bells or whistles. It's collecting dust in the corner; all lonely and waiting for a caring owner. MSRP is $42,525 and my lease offer was $4000 up front at $586/mo. By my estimation, I need to negotiate the price to $38,000 and verify residual of 57% and MF .0012. Also, this is a 10k/yr lease. My last lease I put less than 5k/year. Do they simply not want me to lease this car? I already got approved through BMW finance and gave them my confirmation number.

$5000 down, plus $750 credit from my trade-in, and $495/mo. This is a 2014 X3 with a $42k MSRP. I just don't understand how bmw is allowed to lure you into the dealership with obviously impossible leasing terms. How is this even legal?

The advertised lease rates require dealer participation, which doesn't appear to be the case here. Most dealers are happy to lease a car based upon those rates (though there is room to do better). Have you mentioned the advertised special on the X3? If so, I would suggest contacting a different dealer

Got a commitment from my very reliable and trustworthy dealership of $532/mo (+tax) for a 36mo @ 10k/yr, total out of pocket is $704 at lease signing. 2014 X3 Xdrive2.8, MSRP is $48,925. I believe selling price is in the mid $42,835, got the money factor back to .0012. Is this a solid deal? Thanks in advance.
