What used truck should I get?

Well, I've finally gotten enough money to get my own truck, and I was wondering what I should get... I've seen a lot of early 2000s/late 90s Fords and Chevys on craigslist, but I'm just not sure. This question is gonna sound pretty vague, but what is a used truck that will last me for awhile?
My budget is maybe 7000 or so. Looking at all the model years can just be kinda overwhelming.

    You're right -- there are a lot of choices out there. Tell us a little bit about what you're planning to use the truck for (e.g. towing or hauling or commuting, etc.) and also what's important to you (MPG or power or reliability, etc.), and then we'll be able to make better recommendations.
