Ok so stupid question - I'm starting a car search and am considering luxury cars for the first time. I've noticed some have special lease deals like the one below:

    1) Is the asking price still negotiable on these?
    2) Are these usually good deals if they match the car you are looking at?
    3) If you add on a new option to these deals - does it "break" the deal or does it just add to the capitalized cost?

Also whats the MF on 36 month lease and residual on the below car? (36 month, 10k miles)

    2014 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro Premium
Rate based on MSRP $37,545 of 2014 Audi A4 2.0T quattro Premium Package, Tiptronic, Cold Weather Package and destination charges, excluding taxes, title, other options and dealer charges.
    Dealer Offer
$379 per month for 36 months
    $2,873 cash due at signing
Offer only valid 3/01/2014 through 3/31/2014
$379 per Month Lease for 36 Months, $1,799 Customer Down, Security Deposit Waived, $2,873 Due at Signing

Sorry for the stupid question - new to luxury cars and want to go in and not give into the "dazzle" :)

    .00039 MF and 55% residual.

Assuming you stay with the same model and trim line, a different MSRP should change all of the numbers by the same percentage amount.. So, if you select a unit that has an MSRP that is 5% higher than the unit in the ad, you could expect the payment to be 5% higher, and most of the other numbers, as well. But, the "bones" of the deal should stay the same. Money factor, residual percentage, etc.

Can you do better than the advertised deal? Most deals leave a little extra to work with. However, don't be surprised if it's hard to match that advertised deal.

"excluding taxes, title, other options and dealer charges?"

That stuff can add up to a lot, especially if the dealer is trying to maximize their profit.

I have a lease on an a3 ending soon. I'm looking at trading in the a3 for a lease in the a4. The a3 lease has excess wear and tear insurance. If I do a deal with the dealer to factor in profit on the a3 in my a4 lease, would the dealer be able to use the insurance to fix any scratches on the a3 (and to increase the trade-In value that they're able to give me on my a4 lease). Hope my question makes sense - it's quite a complex deal.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 235,188

I doubt your excess wear insurance has any value, if you aren't turning in the car at the end-of-lease..

The numbers are the same on both models.

    .00039 MF and 54% residual for 36mo, 12K/yr

    .00059 MF and 50% residual for 42mo, 12K/yr.

That 48% residual is for 15K/yr, not 12K/yr.

Using $39K as your cap cost and .00059 and 50%, I get a monthly payment around $464 + tax. It's possible that your CAP has additions for acquisition fee ($695) and title/registration that could make up difference. At $560/mo., your pre-tax payment is about $515.mo. That is $50/mo, or $2100 over the term of the lease, so that's a big difference. If they quoted you for 15K/yr and used 48% residual, that would account for $20/mo. difference.

How much of the $2500 down is going to the cap cost reduction? What is the final selling price?

The money factor and residual match up with the numbers I have, so if you can negotiate more of the down payment into the lease to minimize your out of pocket, you have a pretty good deal.

Hello, I recieved a quote for a 2014 Audi A4 Premium Plus Quattro lease. The car has several options with an MSRP of $44,500. Something doesnt make sense in the payment calculation. Here are the details. Any advice would be appreicted.

    • MSRP - $44500
    • Purchas Price $43,700
    • ETCH $199.00
    • Term 42 Months
    • Money Factor .00079
    • Residual 50% or $22,750.00
    • 12k Mi a year
    • ACQ Fee $695.00
    • Initial Payment $3245
    • Rebate $1500 (fees were $3245 but rebate left the $1745 down)
    • Cash Down $1745.00
    • Govt Fees $178
    • Taxes $1657.04
    • Doc Fee $399.00
    • Payment is $597.74

In calculating the premium int seems like I'm not getting the rebate for some reason. When I calculate the payment myself or online I cant match the one provided to my wife. Any advice on how to calculate with the above info?

  • fern007fern007 Member Posts: 4

I did have a second part to my question. If the initial fees include the taxes do I also have to add sales tax to the payment? Thanks

To know what this deal entails, you'll need a breakdown of the $3245. I have to say.. an $800 discount coupled with $200 etching and $399 doc fee doesn't sound like a good deal, even with a $1500 rebate.

Thanks. Yes something feels off. All the components they gave me are above. It doesn't explicitily breakout the initial fee components. It seems it consists of taxes, first months payment, dmv fees, doc fees, tax on cap reduction, and bank fee. But when I calculate with those assumptions the payment should be about $35 less then they show. Which feels like they are trying to not apply the 1500 rebate (1000 loyalty and 500 audi a4 rebate). I also hear audi is giving a rebate when your buy or order a car with side assist and nav of $1500. Do you know if that is reflected in the purchase price or separate?

  • ne1ggne1gg Member Posts: 5

The equipment credit can be off MSRP or a discount off the car.
I found a few dealers in the New England area that were flexible with that credit toward a lease in addition to a very competitive price.

  • fern007fern007 Member Posts: 4

What dealers did you use. I'm a upset about the deal they gave my wife. I have bought leased several cars from this place but even the purchase price they quoted was a joke. Im just trying to reconcile the math they did because it seems like something else is off.

  • ne1ggne1gg Member Posts: 5

There was a lot of groundwork involved in finding a great lease; so, I would rather not promote specific dealers. PM me to discuss specifics.

Can someone comment on the following lease for a 2014 A4 Quattro Premium Plus (with Nav and Black Optic package)? I'm new to leasing and the deal I got at Infiniti on an almost identical price blows this out of the water.

    MSRP: $45,195.00

Less: $1,196 (Discount) and $1,000 (Rebate for coming from Acura)

    Adjusted Price: $42,999.00

    Audi Care: $860.00

Total Purchase Price (w/ Audi Care) - $43,859.00

    Term: 36 Month / 12K Miles a Year

ADM Fee (Whatever this includes) - $539.00

    Tax: $129.89

    Non-Tax Fees - $84.00

    Net Price: $44,611.89

Payment is $555.00 a month. (Assuming $4k Cash Down)

I don't know what the MF is and I'm not sure what number to use to calculate the residual rate off of. (I didn't ask at the time what those were since I was just window shopping). Assume my credit qualifies me for Tier 1 (whatever the top is).

Infiniti is offering me 39 months at $519 a month (Assuming $0 Cash Down) on a $42,935 cap cost at 61% residual rate.

Without crunching the numbers, there are two things about this deal that concern me.

ADM stands for "Additional Dealer Markup" - basically, they are reversing $529 of the $1196 discount they are offering you. You should target 4-6% below MSRP as your selling price, before the $1000 conquest incentive is used.

Second, your payment is based on $4000 down - is this truly a down payment? If so, that's not a good idea. If the car is stolen or totaled, you are out that money.

    When I plug in your numbers with a 55% residual, I get a pre-tax payment of $434.19.

The MF seems to be marked up - base MF is .00018 for top tier customers.

I would confirm the MF being used by the dealer .. if they've marked it up, you have some room to negotiate a lower payment by using the base MF.

And, if the quoted MF from my dealership is different, what is your advice, please? THANKS!

    .00039 and 52% for 15K. Add 2% for 12K.

If the MF the dealer is using is different, ask them why. Either they are marking it up for extra profit or they are using a finance company different than Audi FS. Tell them you will only use the base MF from AFS, or walk.

If that is your NET cap cost, I show $426/mo. plus tax, so it looks like a really solid deal. Base rates all around. I doubt you could do much better, given that lease program.

What are the numbers on an A4 Prem FWD w/Nav/S-line/Cold? (MSRP just under $40k), 24 months, 15k? Thanks!

Only 57% residual after 24 months? Only 7% additional depreciation for 36 month? Seems like buying a 2 year old is a better play.

Yeah, but you've got 12 fewer payments in which to cover the depreciation. Could be a wash.

I mean buying a 2 year old, not leasing for 2 years. Seems like A4 has a steep initial depreciation, which slows after 2 years.

Oh - sorry! Haven't had any caffeine yet today.

I think your statement is true for just about any luxury manufacturer - buy a used one that is 24-36 months old, where there is still plenty of life left, but the major part of the depreciation curve has already hit.
