hmmm... maybe this one?
05/21/14 DENVER Lease $32,500 30,486 Avg TITANIUM 6GT
They paid about the right money for it. Bimmer CPO is pricey. They've probably got upwards of $36k in it if you figure transport, fees, and cleaning put it over 33k, another $1k bringing it up to CPO standards, if they were lucky, then another $2k-2500 for the warranty cost. These are all guesses, of course. Seems their price is pretty fair, shockingly

Thanks Q - happy to hear the price is fair. I ended up going (as you'll see on the CCBA thread) with a very similar one at a different dealer.
Same year, color, model, but 10k less miles at 22k miles. Still CPO. No heads-up display, but M-sport package instead of Sport. Paid $1,000 more, but figure it's well worth it for the 10k less miles, considering the miles I put on a car.
Thanks again for the help - nice to have that extra information when negotiating.

Hey guys,
Long time lurker, but never got around to making an account to participate. I'm thinking of trading in a 2009 Focus SE Coupe. Black, 54,000 miles, New-ish tires (<10k on them), Auto transmission, Sync/Bluetooth, Cruise, Power locks/Windows, Spoiler, Alloys (16"?), No ABS. It does have a scuff over the right rear passenger wheel well that someone hit in a parking lot and ran away. Had it touched up, but didn't go through insurance to make it "like new" though. I think that's about it. Roughly how much could we expect on a trade in? I was thinking ~$7k.
We're looking to replace it with a 2011+ Volvo S60 AWD (T6 or T5), but want to go CPO since Volvo has a great CPO Warranty. But it seems to me that many of them are overpriced IMO. $27k seems crazy for a 4 year old car, when I can grab a leftover 2014 for ~$37k with the options I want (AWD, xenon, heated seats). Any idea what these go for just so I have a rough idea how much they're marking them up? I'll eventually get around to putting out offers, just wanted to get an opinion here. I like this one in particular:
Volvo S60
Thanks!
Oh, stick with the T5. cheaper all around, and a better package I think. I agree that sometimes dealers are very high on CPO, and a slightly used one (service loaner most likely) can be a better deal.
only FWD, but Carmax tends to have lightly used ones for a good price.

I'm afraid you are too optimistic on the Focus. It has low miles, but has the damage. You might see $4500-5k on it. Maybe less. No ABS? I wouldn't have thought that was still optional in '09!
huh. Just looked it up. They are NOT mandatory in the US. I'm very surprised.
Tell you what, stick, that is a helluva price on that first one. They paid $25,200 for it at auction.
It doesn't say what trim level the Cali one is, so I can't quite comment on that one.
I'm not seeing any info to go on with the 2011s, but it looks like 2012 might be the sweet spot anyway. Lots of these at auction with miles between 20-30k and most prices under $20k, which should put a CPO model in your hands in the low $20s. Lower-end models closer to $20k, and higher nicer ones with lower miles closer to $24k.
The T6 adds quite a premium (like $5k), so I'd avoid that.

Thanks for the replies. I'm in Upstate NY, but don't mind traveling 500 miles or so to get what I want. LA Might be a little far unless I had it shipped, but then I'm out $1,000 for that, so the savings would probably be minimal in the end. Maybe not, I'll expand my search a bit to see what's out there. It also seems impossible to find xenons in the S60. Even some of the higher end T6 models with Navigation don't have them, let alone the T5s. I know this has been discussed before, but it's still beyond me why people pay $30k+ for a premium vehicle without xenons. It "cheapens" the vehicle to me. To each their own I guess.
I Would love to be in the lower $20s for one, but I can imagine the dealer's response to a $23k offer when they're asking $28.5k (as ridiculous as their price is).
Ouch on the Focus trade in estimate. I knew their resale was bad, but didn't think that bad! It's actually been a pretty good car, but we're just looking to upgrade. The truth hurts I guess, haha.
@qbrozen, are you an auto salesman by chance? I only ask as you obviously have access to some sort of auction database.
Thanks guys!
Where upstate? King of Prussia car max is any easy shot down the northeast extension from 81.
And to me, I don't care either way about xenons. But as always YMMV

@my421 There are a few Volvo dealers in my area, so I've seem quite a few S60's, Never one quite like the one you linked to. with the silver looking trim under the doors and silver rear valance.
RMY, here is one that sounds nice, if you can live with FWD. Has the tech package, so all the fancy safety stuff (BLIS, adaptive cruise), and bi-xenons.

Though looking at the carfax, I see why it is so cheap. 3 separate accidents reported! wonder how they still put a CPO on it? may have all been minor, but still tainted.

I would hit the MINI COOPER at $18000--$19000. Not sure of myself though. My impression is that there isn't high demand for these JCWs.
well, it is cheap relative to the silly prices dealers ask normally.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
missed that JCW.
A black one with almost identical miles went through CA auction for $19,100. Others with even more miles were still around that $19k mark. Seems like their $21k price is them trying to get rid of it.

I don't think they are fast movers. Maybe it's the color on this one, I don't know. I suspect pricing on a car like a JCW MINI is very regionally biased.
Thanks all. The dealer has had it for over a month. Lack of a hole in the rood and the manual HVAC probably aren't increasing it's desirability to the average Mini buyer...

What's the market for used 2012 Acura TL SH AWDs (with tech pkg) look like here in the northeast? Silver/Black - Black/Black (I know, very exciting color combos). I'm seeing some used ones pop up at non-Acura dealers in the $25K range with 30 - 40K miles on them.

@qbrozen -- my friend just had his 2002 Porsche Boxster totaled. Very clean, a few bumper chips, 90,000 miles, tiptronic, no other special options I can think of. Very good service records. What's a decent payoff you think?
'13 Highlander Hybrid Limited - averaging about $39k, so seems they want to move it.
Acura - about $24-25k at the block. I'd be wary of those at $25k retail.
Porsche - non-S, right? Hmmm... average would be about $9k-9500. Figure $12k fair retail.

I was downsizing 3 cars to 2. Dealer offered 22K. Before I could bring 2nd car for appraisal my neighbor offered 23. I told my dealer that and he freaked - he'd already "sold" my SC. Ended up at 23.5 for the SC.

I'm thinking that my best bet is to wait until the end of the lease to trade it in because I'll have more equity in it? I'm not sure the value of my car but the same model with similar mileage is on lots with an asking price of 36-37K. So I'm assuming the dealer trade in value would be about 30K currently.
So my thinking is in 3 months by waiting I should have 4K in equity to use towards next lease, am I right in this assumption, any insight would be appreciated, thank you in advance!
I'm trying to figure my options with my wife's car: 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe at 112k miles. What is a fair trade in amount in SoCal and what is a fair private sale amount?

I fail to understand how the buyout drops $4k in just 3 months. Are you sure the $29k number doesn't include tax? Which, depending on your state's laws, wouldn't apply in the case of trading it in.

I'm in PA, it's diamond white and it has has 29,600 miles. It also has a good history.
I don't know it that number includes tax or not, I just know when I asked for today's buyout price it was the 29,674 (that would be price until 7/24). The 25753 is what's stated as buyout in lease contract (FYI leasing company is US Bank).
I guess I really want to know what my car is worth to the dealer.
G35: well, California seems to love these. Worth more there than in the northern states. You'd probably see $7k-$7500 from a dealer if it has had no paintwork and is clean.
Denali: your assumption is pretty close. Probably more like $29k on it right now.
I believe PA works as NJ does. And I'm pretty certain the 2 numbers you are comparing aren't exactly comparable. The buyout on the contract is sans tax, while the buyout you are being quoted is with tax. So your current buyout without tax is something like $27,995. Still, though, dropping $2200 in 3 mos doesn't seem right unless you have a monster payment. Maybe there is some kind of penalty with buying it out now or it includes a end of lease fee that might also need to be added to that 25,753 number. Anyhoo... yes, you will very likely have more equity in 3 mos. Right now, its only about $1k.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '08 Charger R/T Daytona; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '08 Maser QP; '11 Mini Cooper S
Just to point out the obvious, but that additional equity in 3 mos isn't just being created by "waiting". You're paying for that "equity" through the 3 additional monthly payments, right? It's not like the car is appreciating over the 3 months - in fact, it will probably depreciate just a bit.

Unless you are WAY under miles, it's doubtful that you will have equity at the end of the lease. Leases don't work that way UNLESS they really underestimated the residual.

there is quite a spread on these, but I'll have to assume the lower buck bids are for lower buck models. Given the equipment on ours, trade-in is probably in the $5500 zip code. Depending on how fast you want to unload it, I'd probably start out $7495 or $7995 and go from there.
Torchlight has a few for comparison.

I saw Torchlight. some of those are higher miles or similar but older.
That was actually about the $ I was figuring. Not expecting to buy a replacement at the dealer, so no worry about trade in. So I was thinking a nice ad with $7,995, and see what happens. Won't be a rush, so I can hold out indefinitely.
I'll sell this one 1st and the TL after. that I suspect will go quick when I need it to, and won't generate as much return.
so my convoluted plan is sell Volvo, find replacement, then sell TL. so going 3-2-3-2!

The wife's '05 Mazda3s just hit 137k and besides the a/c not working on #1 and #2, the "at" light came on the other day. Figuring that if we don't fix things, we'd get about the same trade number from a dealer which would probably be super low. Does it pay to fix before we trade or not? Doubt we wouldn't get anymore if we did the fixes here. Just looking for the best way to get her into something new in the somewhat near future. Any thoughts would be appreciated here.
