We recently moved to Bucks Co (PA) where everything seems more $$$. I want to lease or buy X5 (2012-14) and need honest answers where I hope I will learn more on here to take with me to the dealer so they don't try to kill me financially. I need a straight answer - lease vs. buy? I have a 50 min commute each way to work and need a reliable, exceptionally built car. I'm sick of buying "less than's" and being disappointed 12-24 months into purchase. I still owe $22k on 2012 GMC Acadia. How do I figure out what a lease will cost and what will be most cost effective for me? I have excellent credit and have plenty to put down but don't want to put it all down....HELP! Where do I start? TY!

There are two transactions here - the lease of the BMW and the trade of the Acadia.

I recommend you heading over to the "Real World Trade in Values" discussion to get an honest appraisal of what the GMC is worth - if you are too far upside down it may make more sense to keep it for the time being.

On the BMW, call a few dealers and see what kid of pricing you can get. I suspect it won't be much off sticker - X5's are pretty popular. Then, head back here and we can model a payment using the base MF and residual.

.00130 and 57%. The 30/12 residual is 60%, but with 6 fewer payments, that may not be a better payment. 36 months is often the sweet spot.

    No numbers yet for 2015 X5 - 2014 numbers are .00130. No 27 month residuals are published; 24/30/36 residuals for 12K are 63% / 60% / 57%. No incentives.

There are 2015 numbers for some BMW models, just not the X5 .. yet. If they are in the showrooms, I would expect to see numbers on them next month .... er, next week.

    .00130 MF and 57% for 36/12.

Looks like 575 is the minimum score in which to lease. MF is marked up from what I quoted above, however.

Base MF and 10% off MSRP. What's not to like? Only way to make it better is to use MSD to lower the MF.

A couple of things... The base residual is 58%, but that has to be adjusted to account for the extra mileage. The actual residual is probably about 6% lower. No issues with that.. just an FYI. The big discount you are getting more than makes up for it.

Given the popularity of the new X5 and how fast they are rolling out the door, this is a pretty good deal.. You are probably saving $90-$100 per month over a comparable new unit. But, watch for a couple of things regarding warranty: Ask for the in-service date of this unit. You want to make sure that you do not run out of the 4-year warranty at the end of the lease. Some demo units have an extra 5K miles and 3 months of warranty coverage, which would help. Also, make sure you aren't going to go way over on your mileage... you want to stay under 50K total miles (or 55K miles, if it has the demo extension). Going to 12K/yr would only add about $20/mo. to the lease.. $720 for 6000 extra miles is a pretty good deal, but of course, only worth it if the warranty is 55K miles.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I'm going 10k a year to stay under 50,000. The car went into service in 8/2013 as a BMW executive car so I'm right at that edge as well this month. I pushed them hard for more discounts because of the mileage but it's super clean and super loaded as you can see. And yes, you're absolutely right on the residual bc they are quoting $42,311 for that and that can't be right at 58%. Still seems like a decent lease deal though for a rare equipped model.

Thanks for the feedback on my 2014 X5 deal. I have more question. Is it worth it to buy the tire and wheel protection warranty? I was offered the warranty for $1150 for 3 yrs. I live in Boston. Thank you.

I am considering 2015 BMW 535 xDrive diesel and 2015 BMW x5 xDrive diesel. What are the corresponding rv and mf for 36/12k and 36/15k? Thank you very much!

And is diesel even worth it given more expensive diesel fuel cost?

Alternatively, I am considering 2015 audi q5 diesel and 2015 q7 diesel premium plus models. What are the corresponding rv and mf for 36/12k and 36/15k? Thank you very much!

Please post your 5-series, Q5 and Q7 questions in the appropriate discussions. That way, it will be easier for others to see the information in the right place.

    2015 X5 diesel numbers are .00130 and 59% for 36/15. Add 2% for 12K.

Hard to justify leasing a diesel .. the payback period is usually much longer than 36 months.

There is some savings on fuel cost... but, buy the diesel because you like the diesel, not for overall savings.
