Trying to decide between AWD and 2WD - CR-V

We are about to buy a new 2014 CR-V EX-L and are trying to determine how much of a difference AWD and 2WD makes in rain and (occasional) snow and sleet. Any pearls of wisdom as well as thoughts on resale value would be appreciated.

The CR-V doesn't have a "true" AWD system that will actually help handling in the rain. It has a simple system that is FWD until it senses front-wheel slippage, then routes power to the rear wheels. It's useful if you get real winter weather..

I don't mean to denigrate the system. It's the type of AWD system that most people actually need. The fuel penalty for this system is very small, as well.

If your dealer stocks mostly AWD models, then you should probably buy it, just for utility and the resale value. If your dealer has mostly FWD models, then that is a good sign that AWD doesn't mean a lot where you live.

    So.. where do you live?

    Ahhh.. .good guess. :)

If you live in the western part of the state near the mountains, it might come in handy... If you are in Charlotte or Greenville, not so much...
