2016 Volvo XC90

Post your wish list, comments, questions and thoughts right here about the up-coming 2016 Volvo XC90, which will debut in 2014/Q4 as a 2015 MY or in 2015/Q2 or Q3 as a 2016 MY, depending on the rumor you hear; my best guess is 2015/June-July +/- as a 2016 MY.

Below you will find a couple articles and a few videos of Volvo concept design studies (Volvo Concept XC90 Coupe revealed @ the 2014 Detroit AS, and the Volvo Concept Estate revealed @ the 2014 Geneva AS) that will wet our appetites with design elements and feature content that will ultimately make it to production to some degree for the next XC90 and V70 Wagon.

@ushy66, looks like it's going to be a 2015 now.

"The all-new interior of the 2015 Volvo XC90 was revealed on Tuesday, with a full debut of the seven-passenger SUV set for August. Pricing and launch timing were not announced."

The centerpiece of the redesigned interior is a tablet-like touchscreen control console that is "virtually button free," the automaker said.

More Detail on 2015/2016 XC 90 Infotainment System

The large portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system/display, was first introduced in a production model by Tesla in the Model S, and now a variation of that large (not quite as large as Tesla's on the Model S or future Model X) infotainment system/display form factor will be offered in the 2015/2016 XC 90. A protoype of this was first show-cased at the 2014 Geneva Autoshow two months ago, and described in a previous post regarding Apple's CarPlay in Volvo and other brands; this type of large vertically oriented touchscreen infotainment system will very likely find it's way to many new models from many auto manufactures in the future. "The new High Performance Drive-E Powertrain Concept makes use of the same basic 2.0-liter four-cylinder and includes two parallel turbochargers. A third, electrically powered turbo-compressor is used to feed the two traditional turbochargers.

In the end, the powertrain is good for a whopping 450 hp, which is as much power as a C7 Corvette Stingray."

Are Keyless Ignition Safeguards in place on the new 2015/2016 XC90, like a timed auto shut-off, to eliminate the risk of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, when you have an attached garage?

Does anyone know if the 2015/2016 XC90 has built-in keyless ignition safeguards, like a timed auto shut-off, to eliminate the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, if you have an attached garage? And if not, is there a recall in place yet to retro-fit/fix this problem?

Check out the following link: http://abcnews.go.com/US/keyless-ignitions-led-carbon-monoxide-deaths-recalled-suit/story?id=33344253

At the very least, this car tech deficiency can cost the car owner lots of wasted gas and bad MPG #'s, and at the worst it can kill the owner and the entire family!

Additional Comment and References on the Keyless Ignition risk of CO Poisoning, and Volvo's Legal Exposure

Some have argued these inexpensive auto shut-off safeguards are unnecessary, and that drivers who forget to turn off their keyless ignition cars in their garage before they exit their vehicle are 'stupid' and shouldn't be driving at all. I disagree. After all we are human, and we all occasionally make mistakes. This occurs with some frequency when people get distracted by their kids or grand kids, etc, or having a senior moment. While it probably happens more than we might think on non-hybrid models, it probably occurs much more on the ultra quiet hybrids! Sometimes people need to be protected from themselves, and I believe requiring Volvo and other mfg's installing an inexpensive auto-off switch on keyless ignition cars is one of them, when a stupid mistake or forgetfulness could cost someone and their family's lives from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Heck, one could make the same argument for the necessity of safety features that are showing up on most cars like blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, etc, etc, because if the 'stupid' driving public would only look into their side and rear view mirrors properly and turn their head a little over their right shoulder like they are suppose to before changing lanes in traffic to check their blind spots we shouldn't need those safety features (and other safety nannies) either, right, yet the auto manufactures (including Volvo) claim these features make driving safer (and I agree), and are putting them on more and more of their products/cars.

Requiring the auto mfg's to retro-fit/fix this problem/tech deficiency seems to me to be a no-brainer, especially for Volvo that prides itself on driver safety, before more people are injured or die from keyless ignition carbon monoxide related poisoning.

If Volvo does not intervene in a timely fashion and right a wrong in their cars, like issue a TSB and/or recall, for those Volvo cars already sold that have keyless ignitions, it's not only terrible for the owners who will continue to be injured and killed by carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to this issue, it can be very expensive to Volvo, like the unintended acceleration suit that cost Toyota at least one billion dollars not so long ago.
