Detroit has always had high insurance rates. and don't even think about home owners insurance there. The State of Michigan has failed to ensure that the rates for insurance are evenly worked out and always places an extra burden on those in the Detroit area.

Why should the rest of the state subsidize crime ridden Detroit where cars get stolen once a month?

I just moved from a small town in the UP, where every day someone was smashing into a deer. That didn't help the rates either.

Well, let me take that back - about 25% of the time it was an idiot deer running into the side of someone's car that smashed up the car.

Just heard on a story that the national odds for hitting a deer is one in 159. It's one in 94 in Michigan, eleventh worse in the country. West Virginia is the worst at one in 39, HA is best.

    Average damage amount is ~$3,800.
