This car has 41k on it. According to Edmunds this car with the options it has has a private party price of about $9300 in clean condition. Clean carfax with 1 owner. The car looks very clean. The guy is asking $11500. But that includes a stage 2 turbo upgrade, custom exhaust and a cold air intake. What do you think I should offer him for it.

Options typically don't add much value to a car, although the right options can help a car sell faster. That's likely one reason why the book price is quite a bit lower than the asking price.

Mods like the turbo upgrade and intake will actually discourage some potential buyers (was the car driven hard and put away wet?). So unless you are super in love with the car, you may want to offer TMV and ask him to call you if no one buys it in the next week or so.

The potential pool of buyers for a stick shift is shrinking all the time too, especially if you are in an urban area with lots of traffic and commuters.

The flip side argument is that sticks are "rare" and that's makes the car more valuable. B)

I have some experience shopping for used GTIs. Finding a nice one under $10K is almost impossible. 41K miles is very, very low.. Check the listings on AutoTrader and see what the comparable asking prices are for your area.... If you are a serious buyer, you might get him down to $10K, but I wouldn't bet on it.
