Only way to describe the 12 is that it's a... wompy engine. What a ridiculous torque curve. That being said, the V8 is probably "good enough" for most people... assuming most people need a 500HP+ V8...

Great write-up, Jay! Too bad there isn't any video :(

Agreed. I would've like to see/hear that violent rev limiter kick in.

There are a couple of errors in your article. First of all, the M275 V12 biturbo is a 3 valve per cylinder engine. Second, the limiter that you hit at 5,200 RPM was not the rev limiter which sits at nearly 6K RPM. It was the speed governor at 155mph that you hit. The dyno operator probably chose 4th gear as that is a 1:1 ratio. But redline in 4th gear on the CL65 with its 2.65 final drive would be well over 160mph. You guys should have caught that given that you would hit nearly 6K RPM out on the road in gears 1 through 3.

I had an '05 CL65 for 2 years and would not touch one without a warranty. You guys are pretty brave.

A coupe that put us seriously to think
They say the rev limiter is 5950 rpm, and max power constant 4800 - 5100, there should be a lot of room left until cutoff.
The heads have 3 valves for sure, now still in the V12.
In 3rd the gearbox doesn't shift down over 2000rpm if no kickdown applied even at WOT
    Fascinating car, good choice.
