    "...a day like this..."? You mean...rain? In most of the country, rain is not considered a real hazardous road condition.

    It is in SoCal where it hasn't rained in months. Any moisture makes the roads extremely slick as all it does is cause the oil to lift out of the road surface. A decent rain will wash that away, but we have not had that since...

    There is also the fact that because of the lack of rain in SoCal peoples average driving skill goes from bad to "Dear god everyone is trying to kill me".

    You can also thank 50 years of suspension refinement and redesign for the way the 911 handles today. Though it's hard to imagine rain being hazardous under any circumstance. The last 4 weeks or so in Michigan with the snow and black ice have caused chaos (I lost count after the 17th bass-ackwards truck in a ditch), though the last few days have seen very light traffic- maybe all the bad drivers have been weaned out.
