    Yeah, it looks like a pod, but it was a brilliant decision on Toyota's part a few years ago to make the Prius look just enough offbeat without being too crazy. That has allowed affluent, image-conscious people to buy the Prius as a fashion statement for their affluent, image-conscious neighbors. Recent news cites the Prius as the #1 selling vehicle in (affluent, image-conscious) California. Meanwhile, hybrid vehicles that were designed to look no different than their traditional counterparts have been sold slowly.

    OK, but the profile isn't significantly different from the ICE Yaris on which it is based. Or compared to the ICE Honda Fit, for that matter.

    You can blame geometry for making the "pod" the most space efficient way of building a small car. Yeah, that'll work.
