    TCS might also be self preservation for joints and axles. Diesel engines are great for relaxed cruising (which makes it great for the Passat), but otherwise they're soulless engines for anyone used to high revving screamers. Especially with turbocharged petrol engines offering the best of both worlds and tightening emissions standards, I think they're going to continue remaining a niche.

    @duck87: Diesels are only rare in American passenger cars, which you knew, but its easy to forget how big the diesel engine actually is outside of that segment. As for the timeless horsepower up high versus torque down low argument it really just comes do
