Tundra 4wd: Our tester produced 14.7 mpg over 730 miles. On our highway-heavy 116-mile test loop it produced 16.6 mpg.

Long-Term 2wd Silverado w/3.42 rear end: Average Lifetime MPG: 17.4 mpg
EPA MPG Rating: 19 combined (16 city/23 highway)

I don't know why when a trucks gets a couple miles per gallon worse than something like the GM here it's labeled a pig and so unrefined by others. Really it's funny how people make a big deal over 2 mpg it's nothing. I'd take reliability and power plus great resale over 2 mpg.

Interesting article - It's a heavy steel box on a steel frame, so it's a given were not going to get Hybrid fuel economy, even so this is 2014, I'm not sure why Toyota is resistent to direct injection, cylinder de-activation, Turbo's and other engines technologies? Maybe longterm reliability issues? Article quote; Our tester produced 14.7 mpg over 730 miles. On our highway-heavy 116-mile test loop it produced 16.6 mpg. Remember those numbers are with very controlled conditions. Unless you have egg shells under your right foot, only the driver in the truck, proper tire pressue, and a tail wind pushing will you get those numbers; real world, wife, 2 kids, work box, and a dog on board, full tank of gas (Lots of added weight/drag) more like 13-14 MPG. The Toyota Tacoma has terrible MPG too - maybe some changes for the 2015 model..?
