Blinker and transmission lock up? - '03 Ford Ranger

edited December 2014 in Ford
Intermittently, when the blinker is on, the O/D light will start flashing and the transmission begins to shift harshly. A tech told me he remembered a long time ago reading something about complaints about when people were changing lanes, (using their blinkers), that the transmission torque converter would go into lock up mode.

Anyone have any idea's ?

You mean unlock right? If you're on the freeway changing lanes, you'd already be in lock up.

Where's the OD button on that truck. Is it on the end of the directional stalk?

Yes, it is, sorry, I misquoted the story to me. But anyway, the button is on the end of the shift lever

Okay. So there must be a short somewhere in the wiring in the steering column. That's the only thing I can think of that is triggering the OD on/off button. Some issue in one of those harnesses.
