yeah, not sure what they are hiding, since it says it includes the dealer fee too.

actually, they list a stock #. so that may mean it is just a loss leader (1 only at this price so they can run the ad). Who knows though, unless you call! and if it is 1 only, some lucky person got a sweet deal.

Here is the deal. MSRP $22,400 with sale price of $17,300. That price includes a $2000 Hyundai rebate. The car has 625 miles. They wanted more in the beginning, around $170/month with $2000 down.

I said what happened to the $1100 down and $104/mo payment. They showed me taxes, license, etc fees. I balked and they finally came down to $1100 down payment and $135/mo. Selling price is now $16,200. I am pretty pleased and will probably go through with the deal

one thing though with that car. based on the MSRP, it does not have the popular equipment package, so no power seat, nicer radio screen, or backup cam.

there is a dealer right over in PA that is offering that basic car (I think without the package) for S&D right at $200+ tax IIRC, so that is not too far off, but still a great deal he got.

You are correct, there is nothing cute or fancy about this car but I cannot complain about $16,200 for a Sonata.

certainly cheap. Though I have learned not to get something that is not what I want (or missing key items) just because it is cheap. And I know from experience on this, I would miss the backup camera!

Got the deal done today! Everything was just as the dealer outlined. I paid $1100 down to cover dealer fees, first month's payment, etc. I have 36 payments of $135. Including the $2000 rebate the car was discounted nearly $7000.

Maybe it was sitting on the lot too long. It was produced in September 2014.

I think the lease numbers favor the Sonata ... it's in a much more competitive segment. However, check out the Genesis thread; a guy there just scored over $10K off MSRP and ended up with an absolute killer lease payment.

Wow! 10K off MSRP. I wonder if it was the 5.0 model - it seems that those aren't as popular as other trims.

As an aside, this is a business car (primarily). He's going from a '13 MB ML350, so he would qualify for the competitive owner rebate --- and a Genesis lease would work out to about half the price as the MB lease. He can't wait to get rid of that small mortgage-like monthly payment.

that was pretty low. But, can't really compare since he traded in something on it, so there was obviously money to be made by the dealer at that end.

would be curious to know if pulling the trade out would have left the same exact payment? In theory, it should (take out trade and negative equity put in). But never know. Though I guess someone in Colorado could go in and ask for an identical deal!

In NY, are all rebates and incentives taxable? My lease calculator doesn't seem to tax them, and if they are taxable, it is making my numbers artificially low. I am within $25/month of the price I show a motivated dealer car should lease me the car for, but they are letting me walk out. This makes me wonder if I am miscalculating....

My understanding is that the only items in a lease not subject to sales tax are government fees.

In NY, are all rebates and incentives taxable? My lease calculator doesn't seem to tax them, and if they are taxable, it is making my numbers artificially low. I am within $25/month of the price I show a motivated dealer car should lease me the car for, but they are letting me walk out. This makes me wonder if I am miscalculating....

My understanding is that the only items in a lease not subject to sales tax are government fees.

So if I am getting $2000 in rebates/incentives, I should add the tax on that $2000 in to what needs to be paid over the 36 month lease. For example, at 8% sales tax on $2000, there would be an additional $160 to be paid over 36 months - almost $5/mo more than my calculator shows. Does this apply to dealer holdbacks factored in the deal, too?

Yes on the sales tax for the rebate; I don't know how (or even if) holdback is taxed.

I am hoping one of you can answer a question for me that's not about finance.

I just put a deposit on a '15 Sonata 2.0T Sport LIMITED! I went to three dealers today and all 2.0T Sports that were fully-loaded [presumably with the Ultimate package] had both Sport and LIMITED badges on them. Now I am really confused.

I know there is a 2.0T Sport and a 2.0T Limited, but I want a 2.0T Sport with the Ultimate package and was told this is it. The cars I am talking about all had MSRPs around $34,700, so the 2.0T Sport Limited is priced and equipped the same as the 2.0T Sport with Ultimate package, but before I pick up and sign the final paperwork, I want to be sure I am getting the car I think I am getting. All the window stickers and invoices say Sonata Limited 2.0T, but the cars do have the Sport badge and the carbon-fiber looking trim on the dash. What do guys think?

Just check the options on the sticker. Probably just am oddity of how they refer to that combo. I don't think a base engine limited is badged differently with the ultimate package. But I have a normal limited I thin, not ultimate.

I agree.. check the sticker...

Go to your link, and there is a link to the window sticker... Click on it and, that's a Limited model, not a Sport..

That said.. if you go to Hyundai's website, I don't see an "Ultimate Package" option, when using the "build your own" function on a Sport 2.0

Thanks, guys. I didn't even notice the link to the window sticker link. Unfortunately, the sticker leaves off many things that I believe are in the car. I am amazed at how poorly the Hyundai website is designed. I can't even build a 2.0T Sport with Ultimate Package or the 2.0T Sport Limited to compare. It feels so shady....

I get the feeling they are no longer building the 2.0T Sport with Ultimate package..

the ultimate package is actually the limited ultimate package, so be def would not be on the sport. I saw the same thing on the build it page. Option on the 2.4 limited, not on the 2.0. Not sure why they would not offer it, so the only other logical explanation is if they made the features standard on the 2.0.

Just an update. I have talked to five dealers here in the NY area and none have the 2.0T Sport with Ultimate, but all have the "new" 2.0T Sport Limited. All said it is the replacement for the 2.0T Sport with Ultimate and one admitted it was all so new, even they were a little unclear, but were under the impression there were no more 2.0T Sports w/Ultimate coming there or anywhere else. I emailed Hyundai Corp and told them if I couldn't get clarification tomorrow, I would get my deposit back and by a Camry XSE V6. It may cost a little more, but at least I know what I'm getting. If anyone is interested, I will keep you posted. Thanks again, everyone, for your help.

I need to ask something. Have you seen the car in person? There are obviously a lot of dealers close by. Why not just stop at one, and look at the car, and see what is on it? All the features will be listed on the window (at least the important stuff!). And the ultimate package only has a few gadgets, which you can easily verify that the car has on it.

Actually, I just went to the Hyundai site. It lists the features on the 2.0t limited. It includes the limited tech package (Nav, etc.), and what is in the ultimate package on the 2.4i (lane watch, smart cruise, etc.). Not 100% sure all of the components are included, but everything I could remember was in there.

Buying a car that isn't as nice, or what you want, seems like a radical move instead.

Stickguy - of course you are right. Although not my first choice, I do like the XSE V6 with tech package.

The problem with comparing the stickers from the two cars is difficult. No one has a 2.0T Sport with Ultimate anymore. They have 2.0T Limited and 2.0T Sport Limited. As far as the major parts, both have the same electronic features and MSRP. It are the more subtle differences I am interested in, like as someone mentioned elsewhere, heated steering wheel in the 2.0T Limited but not in the 2.0T Sport. Where does that leave the 2.0T Sport Limited?

I already got something of a response from Hyundai Corporate. I will hopefully be able to add to this tomorrow.

My local dealer has his advertised lease specials for the Sonata during the month of April. Looks like the price went up a little since I purchased mine at the end of March. They still have the SE as the special but it does come with the backup camera and power driver's seat--mine did not.

If I add on the dealer fees and tax, the payment will be around $180/month with $1999 down. My payment was $135/month with $1100 down.

The 2.0T Limited came out in the fall. Prior to that, you could only get the 2.0T or 2.0T w/Tech and/or Ultimate. The 2.0T Limited made the need for the latter go away.

Some lots may have some unsold loaded non-Limited 2.0Ts in stock, but they won't be making any more that way.
