Let's put a test light on the connector that plugs into the rear lights to see if there's any voltage back to them.

The circuit has more than one fuse whether it's a pickup or a utility vehicle.

    Does the center taillight work?

We found the problem and could not believe what it was. It was the multifunction switch. In lay mans it was the signal light/ windshield wiper switch. Looking at this thought there was no way.

That was the reason for the question. The multifunction switch could be bad but the center taillight
would work. It all comes down to checking voltages if you can find the right wires in the right
places to try to isolate the bad part, wire, or fuse.
