Acceleration Stutter on 2006 Mazda Tribute 3.0L Automatic V6 AWD

I've reviewed some of the forum discussions on engine stutters to see if anyone has the same problem. I'm not highly mechanical myself but I will describe as best I can. I am the original owner of my 2006 Mazda Tribute 3.0L V6 AWD & the truck has always performed well for us. I ordered the truck with a towing package although I've newer towed anything. We've gone on many long road trips with no issues of any kind. Truck always starts immediately, has a smooth & peppy drive although Mileage has never been great but I attribute that to driving an SUV - averaging 300 miles on a tank of gas. Problem I have been experiencing for the past month is an acceleration stutter which occurs at different speeds but generally around 35-40mph & again at 55-65mph. I've seen the mechanic who has hooked up the diagnostic machine but he cannot detect any coils misfiring. He suggested to wait until the engine light appears & that way the diagnostic can detect which of the 6 coils are misfiring & then repair those ones.
The mechanic strongly feels the problem is coil malfunction not transmission. His suggestion is to back off the accelerator at the stutter point, pause a second, then accelerate more quickly to a higher speed beyond the stutter range. I have suggested that he change all 6 coils rather than wait for the engine light to show. I've been driving the last month & the problem persists but no engine light appears. I fully intend to keep the truck as we have always performed regular & scheduled maintenance. I would greatly appreciate anyone's suggestions on my best course of action to repair this problem. I have a 2002 tribute ES V6 with exact same problem. Only code coming up was for misfire on coil 4, replaced but still no better. Took it to tranny specialist today (he came very highly recommend by a few different people) and he advised tranny is fine, it must be an engine issue. He thinks a misfire or maybe vacuum leak. If you find anything more out please be sure to update here and I'll do the same.
Thanks very much for your reply. I will absolutely keep you posted on any new developments on my end. Did your check engine light come on at any point to indicate a problem. Did your Mazda dealer do the coil replacement or was it your own mechanic. I'm asking because I've been told that Mazda dealer's diagnostic equipment would have better troubleshooting results than an independent's equipment. I look forward to more updates. Thanks again.
