    Good deal?

    .00131 and 60%.

What is the selling price? What is the breakdown of the $5500 up front cost? State and tax rate?

Without that information, it's hard to judge your offer.

I get $464/mo with those numbers .. find out what the net cap cost is. If higher than the MSRP less discount then find out what's added.

They are saying net cap cost is 40,271, MF.00132 with 60%.
First he said MF was .00180 and was dropped after I have mentioned the correct MF for January. Anyway 36/10K, taxes 1671.57 tags115.50 processing fee 499 and acquisition fee of 925.  Offering $487/mo. and tells me this is the best they can do.
    I am confused. please help.

With that CAP cost, their numbers are correct. $487/mo.

That CAP cost is $800 over the selling price they gave you. What do you have to pay upfront, and what is added to the CAP cost?

Would like a new 2016 BMW X1 AWD White with Mocha Dakota leather and just the cold weather pkg a pano roof

MSRP $39,145 true market value $37,865*

What should we be looking at for a Lease monthy payment with:
    10k miles a year.
    MSRP $39,145
Can be anywhere from 33-48 months depending on what the best deal is?
looking at paying about $3,500 total to start/out the door including TTL - tax, 1st payment, license, fees, etc.

General question for the mods: do RV and MFs change via state/region? Seems like when you're listing them it's independent of state. Thanks!

For BMW, the numbers are usually national. We have seen some regional differences for the i3, but for the mainstream models, only one set of numbers.

ok, wow, that's so much more than the Mazda CX-5 we are also looking at. I thought if we could get into the X1 for about $100 more a month might be worth it. the CX-5 has more room and looks less wagon-ish and after reading this: http://www.consumerreports.org/cars/redesigned-2016-bmw-x1-is-more-contemporary-but-less-fun sounds like the X1 is a fancy Mini Cooper and does not drive like a BMW, the CX-5 might be more fun to drive as well as a LOT more affordable/better value. (only $280/mo for a GT AWD with about $4,000 due at signing)

I wonder if the BMW X3 is a better deal than the X1 since the X1 is brand new and the X3 is getting "old"? any better numbers on the X3? I'd want a BMW that drives like a BMW.

X3's are more expensive to lease ... check the X3 lease questions forum for examples of what others have been able to negotiate.

CX-5 will be less expensive, any way you cut it.

And, true BMW aficianados will tell you it's been years since BMWs drive like BMWs.

Hello, thank you for a great resource. I have a couple questions. First of all I have a car already configured and delivered to dealership. The lease does not seem too bad. They agree to it over phone at least. Could you first tell me if this is a fair deal -

MSRP - 43,175.00 (Premuim, Luxury, Biz nav)
    36 mo./12,000 Miles
$465/mo. $5000 cash at signing (3000 dp / 2000 acq fees, 1st pmt, etc). $495/mo. with MA state tax included.

Their original offer was $15/mo higher ($510) than this amount I verbally agreed to.

When I use a calculator with latest money factor and residual value this looks like an ok deal. I have no idea how they are structuring this when they say they "agree" to it. I don't know if they roll fees into msrp and take more cash down? Or what their play is. But when I get to the dealership I want some advice on how to negotiate this. How do you get them to listen to the arguments about "money factor should be xyz according to Edmunds forum"?

Any tips? Any more info I can provide? I also know there is a $500 "winter adder" for X1 leases this month (feb 2016). I was thinking I'd keep that printed and introduce it after they have told me what they want out of the deal. They have not mentioned it at all.

Another thing I don't understand with the Edmunds Lease Calculator - why is it so much more money to have the fees added to "Vehicle Costs" rather than paying them up front under "Trade in and Down Payment", if it is a fixed amount? I don't see how that works.

Finally, I do know I could negotiate down the MSRP asking price which has not decreased. I really don't know why they'd agree to my offer unless they take it out of MSRP without stating that directly. If they take down the MSRP 2k, there is the exact config I'd agree to.

    Any analysis/advice greatly appreciated,
    Thank you!

The 36/12 lease numbers on the 2016 X1 are .00132 and 59%. Without knowing the selling price / cap cost, we can't tell you if your offer is good or not.

We do not recommend making a down payment on a lease - that money would be lost if the vehicle were totaled or stolen.

I use a hand built lease calculators - on-line calcs often make assumptions we know nothing about.

You have the power to decide whether to pay the taxes and fees up front or to roll them into the cap cost.

You don't negotiate the MF .. if what they tell you is higher than we we've provided, you politely but firmly tell them you won't sign a deal with an inflated MF. They know what the base rate is.

You negotiate the best selling price for a lease just like you would for a purchase.

Hi thanks for the reply. There was no price agreement - that was based on msrp. My assumption was that they would drop it to 41,175 to make my offer work. So assuming they did, is that a good deal? I think it is after some more research. It comes out to just around that if I use your MF and residual, and my down payment amt.

I don't mind the risk of the down payment. This is the structure I prefer due to my spending habits and patience with managing a personal cash flow. Any benefit is lost for me on time. I have 6 cars and 20 employees - too busy! I just want to control payment amount and get lowest down payment possible at same time. I think the numbers I have are the best possible if they make the wiggle room. But another dealer is telling me residual is super low ( ~.51) and they will cut msrp to invoice, while the other is saying high (.59) residual but offers no discount on msrp (but I assume they will take 2K off the top). Sorry if this is confusing or redundant, but it's a lot to discuss in a small space.

But back to my questions - I found a way better calc spreadsheet at carbuyingtips and have a clearer picture now. I also realized rolling fees into payments is more expensive due to interest.

So thank you for helping me process this information!

Final question - where and how do you get the official MF and Residual numbers? Is this official how? Is it just from somehow reverse engineering the monthly specials? Or is there some auto industry data site you can subscribe to? I'd rather have some official proof than just saying I read it online.
