I have a 2014 Cx5 AWD GT lease expiring in June. I am looking to get the same 2016.5 Cx5 AWD GT. I currently pay $410 a month but really $390 since I added tire and extra wear and tear coverage. I put zero down (just made first month's payment). It was a 36 month lease with 12k/year. What should I expect to pay in June for the new one? I live in 07305 (Jersey City, NYC Metro) and this will be my 4th Mazda Lease (If that matters). I like to put absolutely nothing down. Thanks!

That's too high. With numbers like those your payment should be around $360 including tax and all fees

Hi there. Mazda dealer in Queens, NY just quoted me a lease for a CX-5 Touring @ $329/mo with zero downpayment. I asked about the residual value and he said his system was down but that it was between 50-53% of the MRSP (@$30,375). Does that residual sound right?

Hi Everyone,

I just leased a 2016 Mazda CX-5 FWD Grand Touring with Tech & Sensing Package in Houston at Russell & Smith:

$390 per month all in
$0 down, sign and drive, Mazda pays first month's payment
$33,326 MSRP (includes dealer add-ons)
$30,257 Selling Price
$750 Mazda Lease Loyalty Cash
36 months, 10,000 miles a year
$18,749 Residual
$18.22 Rent Charge

Additionally, the dealer included 3 years of Mazda scheduled maintenance, a tire & wheel protection plan, window tint, wheel locks, and nitrogen.

Not originally part of the deal above, I ended up selling them my 2014 CX-5 (also leased) for $20,000, which is actually slightly above what Edmunds said it was worth in the most optimistic scenario; as a result, I pocked an extra $2200 for not simply turning it in (my buy out from Chase was only $17,800).

A couple of things surprised me versus what I had been reading here:

The money factor on the deal was only .00001
The residual looks like it was only 58%

Nitpicking aside, I'm very happy with this deal. I had been hoping to pay $380 a month with $0 down with window tint, which assumed that I got the car for $1,000 below invoice. Instead, I paid $385 (after trade-in tax adjustment), pocketed $2,200, Mazda paid my first month, and I got all of those dealer-ad-ons at no charge. Had I not pocketed the $2,200 but instead applied it as a down payment, the lease payment would have fallen to something like $340 a month.

I e-mailed four dealers at 4:30pm, agreed on the price at 6pm, drove to the dealer at 7:30pm, and returned home at 9pm with the new car. I had previously purchased 2 Mazdas from the "winning" dealer before.

*Note on Texas Sales Tax - Texas charges sales tax of 6.25% on the entire value of the vehicle, not just the monthly payment. However, if you trade-in a car, this trade-in can be used to offset the taxed value. In my case, my new car was $30,258 while my trade-in was $20,000. Therefore, I only had to pay tax on $10,258. But where it gets really complicated, is that this math typically only works if you are staying with the same lender (i.e. you do not get such treatment if you go from Chase to US Bank). The reason is because the bank is the owner, and the owner pays the taxes. If instead I had purchased the car from Chase to sell to , for example, BMW, the Lone Star state would tax that as two separate transactions - 1) me buying the car from Chase since I didn't actually own it, and 2) BMW buying the car from me.

The moral of the story for Texans is this - it's advantageous for you to trade-in your lease to the same dealer that you're getting your new car if it's being leased by the same bank. Be sure to factor in the tax savings (you'll only be taxed 6.25% on the difference between the agreed upon value of your new car and the value of your used car).

Hello! I'm in the middle of negotiating a price on a 2016.5 CX-5 AWD GT with iACTIVESENSE and Tech Package. Northern Virginia area.

MSRP is $33,955. $1,550 discount; $32,405 for car. $599 proc, $1,353 tax, $120.86 for something "non tax fees". Total cost is $35,073.

MF is .00101 vs what I expected .00051. Manager stated .00051 was for MY2016 only.

They previously said the residual was 61%, but I'm guessing it's actually 58% for 36/15k for 2016.5.

Effective monthly payment is $479 with $0 down.

Think they have more room to move on the selling price? What's the known MF for 2016.5 nowadays?

Well, the dealer is allowed to mark up the MF by .00050. Do the math.

Base rate for the 2016.5 CX-5 is .00051. Dealer is blowing smoke; 36 month MF on the 2016's is .00001 (or, .00051 if the dealer marks it up).

Taking advice from everybody, we haven't told them we are leasing yet, but I assume that there's very little negotiation for the MF and RV, since the base MF for mazda is so low, and RV is fixed anyways. Does my approach and assumption sound right? If so, does this price discount sound like a good deal? I'm in Seattle Washington. Thanks!

We don't track selling prices - use the 'make / model / year' pull downs at the top of the page to check TMV. If you can beat that number, you're doing good.

You're assumptions about MF and RV are correct.
