Sorry to hear about these dealers taking advantage of you. Don't feel bad most dealers are experts at lying and deceiving the regular Uneducated car buyer. I am well versed in Honda pricing especially in NY, NJ area on all Honda models. Your Awd model invoice w dest charge is $28,472 or $28,471 @Nada price.

If you IM me with a list of dealers with your model I will help you close the deal on a 15 CRV model. Or if you don't have a list I will help you make a easier new car sale purchase.

Did you Go thru the @Edmunds site and get a price on what your trade in is worth . Try @KBB.com also. See what numbers these sites come up with for Trade in and private party sale. Selling your vehicle private will net you a lot more than 2k offered . I would not Trade in your Yaris. I would assume a 2011 Yaris without knowing details should sell privately for 5k maybe more.

If you are in an area with a CarMax, you can get a quote from them and, assuming it's acceptable, either ask the dealer to match it or just sell it to CarMax.

It's hard to find any decent used car for $5,000 these days so putting it on craigslist is doable. Some parts of the country seem to have more flakes though, making it harder to sell a car yourself. I was living in upper rural Michigan ~18 months ago and sold two cars up there without any trouble, but NJ could be a bit, er, different than selling stuff to Yoopers. ;)
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
Craigslist NJ is a lot better than NY with all the Flakes. My neighbors kid in NY ( Staten Island ) who I help w pricing/ buying his new mazda6 sold his old car on Craigslist the 1st day and hours after he posted it.

    Awd or Fwd model?

My numbers are dealers invoice price with the destination included. Not MSRP

    sorry this is AWD.

He said: MSRP is 30k, and they're (and I quote) "Selling the car for only 500 over cost, so 29, 572"
The link you provided (thanks) says $28, 491 so in theory I should be paying that and nothing more for it?

Another thing that I am thinking about... they offered me $2,000 trade-in on my 5 year old, 99k mile toyota yaris with no accident history (just standard options nothing added on). And I'm thinking i'm getting ripped off on this too, because I traded in my 2015 Nissan Altima a year ago with 168k miles on it for $1,300. I feel like I should get at least 4k for the Yaris. The more i'm talking to you about this the more concerned i'm getting. Could you help me not get ripped off? :(
Consider a 2016 model its newer / refreshed and has some upgrades from last years model 2015. In NY , NJ, You can buy a 2016 CRV for Invoice price to almost $500 below invoice depend on dealers and stock.

The better buy is the 2016 model especially if your 2015 CRV price is only 1k below Invoice.

Here is what's going to happen this month with dealers that have limited 2015 models. They may quote you 1k below invoice and wont go any lower cause dealers know they will sell them to all the walk in dealership people who are Un-educated.

I could hear all those salesman running there pitch. about selling a 2016 model for 500 to 800 above invoice But the sweet deal our dealership is offering is a brand new 2015 model which were willing to sell well below invoice . If you buy it today I'm sure I could get my manager to approve $900 below its invoice price . Now that's a deal........... Mr Brian . Ok where do I sign.................lol

    Hi all,

I just got back from the dealership for a 2016 Lease. this is the information I got. What do you all think?
I was comparing against Nada Guides (Thanks @brian125 )
    http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/2016/Honda/CR-V/AWD-5dr-EX-L/Pricing
    • New York - 2016 Honda CR-V EX-L (LEASE)
    • 39 month term (warranty is for 36 months, plus 60k mile manufacturer warranty)
    • Invoice: $28,900 (compared to Nada guides of $28,678 )
    • CAP COST: 28,900 (so invoice price) Included in this cost is a Marketing/Advertising FEE of $200
    • MSRP: $30,495
    • Disposition Fee $395 (unless I lease another)
    • Residual: 63%
    • Acquisition Cost: $595
He quoted me a price of $2500 for my 100k mile, 2010 Toyota Yaris with no accident history.

What do you all think? My initial reaction is this:

I can try to get $3,000 for the Yaris (I don't think I have time to sell it privately honestly) and get him to get rid of that marketing/advertising fee (not sure why *I* need to pay for their marketing fees).

Most dealers will do this deal with you. I would post in the CRV leasing forum and see if dealers lease numbers are correct. Then will proceed . @michaell will check out your lease numbers in forum

I was wondering anybody had any suggestions for deals in NJ I was wondering if it is ok to still get a 2015 CRV.I seen a few dealers that have a few on the lot and should I be about 2000 below invoice, with or without destination?
    Thaks for your help
some dealerships that have plenty princeton and davis

The way I would approach this with dealers in NJ on 2015 models. First see how much below invoice you could get a 2016 model. Then ask dealers for a 2k maybe more below invoice on the 15 models excluding the destination charge of $820. If you plan on trading / selling in a few years hold firm on 2500 below dealers invoice. This will help you recoup the depreciation cost of a 1 yr. model vehicle. If dealers wont sell cheaper than 1500 below invoice buy a 2016 model .

If you venture into MD that's probably where you will make the best deal on a 2015 model CRV.

Do this via emails or direct phone calls to each dealerships Internet dept. There is no harm or foul sending inquirers to MD or any boarding states to check out pricing

Auto-Sport Honda in NJ had 16 (2015 ) Crv's last week. Try New Rochelle and Friendly Honda if you want to travel over the bridge. Both have 10 plus 15 models mostly EXl models.

    Good luck

    zeppy68,

Good dealership Reviews. Never bought a vehicle there. I would assume they have a 299 to 399 doc fee charge ? You need to ask while negotiating price. high doc fee's like in NJ cuts into your agreed sales price.

You said : If I go with a 2016 where do I need to be below invoice for exl or the ex ?

In NJ / NY Invoice to 500 below invoice after taken dealers doc fee charges into consideration is where most good educated buying is made this month.

Post what models 2015 and 2016 you may want to buy ? I'll give you invoice prices. Then all you need to do is match my pricing against dealers price.

    brian125 → zeppy68

When negotiating any new car ,1st you negotiate a agreed selling price which always should include the destination charge. Doing it this way keeps both you and dealers on the same page pricewise . Once a price is agreed on there are the OTD prices . These prices include your states sales tax 7% that's added to the agreed selling price . Then dealer adds there doc fee charge on bill. NJ doc's range 299 to 399. Most dealers in NJ will add a $10 tire disposal fee and your States Dmv fee's ( Reg , Plates ) 300 to 400 depending on the years. If your transferring plates its a lot less . In NY its around $75 .......... This rounds out your OTD pricing.

Avoid dealer warranty's unless you know good and bad price range deals .

2015 CRV exl deal = 1671 below invoice minus 369 doc fee = 1302 below invoice.......... Bad deal keep on negotiating down .

    2015 EXL awd invoice price = $27,591 + 880 = $28,471

    2016 EXL awd Invoice price = $27,919 + 900 = $28,819

    2016 Ex awd..........................$25,625 + 900 = $26,525

Note: make every dealer that has 2015 models give you pricing on both years of your choice.

How you word this conversation is............. I'm willing to buy a 15 model today for $2369 below dealers invoice price( taking the 369 doc fee into consideration ) or 16 model EXL awd for 500 below dealers invoice.

With above invoice pricing you can tell which deals are best for you. There is no rush to buy. Best deals come at the very end of each month . Dealers needing there monthly sales quotas will sell cheaper the last few days , last day of the month.

    Change your buying strategy

I suggest you Call / Email each dealer . You tell them what PRICE earns your business today. At worst dealers looking to sell may agree or counter offer . Do this with 10 / 15 area Honda dealerships .

I have taken the pricing guess work out for you . My target pricing is where the better deals are made if your in that ball park # in the NY/ NJ area you have done well.

If I was looking for a 2105 model I would email/ call 30 dealers in the NY / NJ / PA. area and let each dealer know that for 3k below invoice I would buy said model holding with a credit card deposit till I could get down there.

3k below invoice would be my number to buy a 2015 model due to what I posted above about being a 1 yr. old model and depreciating costs etc. Going to MD would be a possibility for me on a 15 model. My 3k below price would be hard for you to get unless you are good at negotiating and know how and when to buy. Who knows I might not get it here in this area either but the 3k # is what gets me to buy a 15 model. over a 16 model

    Hello guys,
This posts were so helpful in getting what I think was a good deal, so I will post my numbers. Hopefully they will help others. Car bought in Florida. I called all the dealers in the state and negotiated for around two weeks.

    I purchased a 2015 CRV LX on December 30, 2015.

    According to my buyer's order:
    Vehicle purchase price 21,000.00
    Predelivery service charge 799.00
Third party private tag agency fee 95.00
    Battery fee 1.50
    New tire fee 5.00
    Subtotal 21,950.50
    Sales tax (6.0%) 1,314.03
    County tax (.50%) 25.00
    Title, Registration, new tag 368.85
    Subtotal 23,608,85
    Minus Honda Finance Discount 750.00
Total (Out the door price) $22,858.38

Plus I got: cargo cover, cargo tray, wheel locks, all weather mats, regular mats, nitrogen in tires, door guards, pin stripes and nitrogen in the tires; some of which I didn't even want but they were "free".

    Thank you all.

Hey gang, has anyone heard of any awesome deals on '15 Touring AWD's? I'm thinking about picking one up, and I have one dealership around $30k sale price (plus t, t, l) but didn't know if that was good or not.

Invoice price on the 15 touring awd model is $31,768 if new dest charge of $900 was added?

Negotiate at months end and find more dealers with your model. One yr. old model Depreciation value doesn't outweigh above price quoted . You could do better. Make sure you factor in dealers doc fee charge if your state has high doc's. $1768 below invoice minus doc fee = your deal right now.

$2500 to 3k plus should be your target price to buy a 2015 model otherwise go for the 2016 model.

Dealers with limited 15 models might not want to deal $2500/3k below knowing some Uneducated buyers will go for a $1400 below invoice price after paying the MD/ VA $300 plus doc fee price. So be it don't buy

In MD / VA area $500 to 800 below invoice should be a piece of cake on 16 models.

So are you thinking maybe offer $29k or so for the 15 Touring AWD model (plus tax, tags, doc)?
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
Yes. Makes no sense to buy a 1yr model old model for just 1000 less than a 16 model. Check dealers stock and look to buy Presidents weekend or last 2days, last day this month.

End of March ( ending 1st quarter for car companies is the next good buy dates. )

Stick with below Honda dealers in MD and VA . They should have biggest stock on 2015 CRV's in that area

CRISWELL, AUTO NATION IN VA , HERITAGE, HERSON'S

    Good luck

New to this forum. Looking to buy a CRV EX-L in Utah. There are a few dealers who have some pretty significant 2015 inventory, particularly in a color that is not as popular. One dealer is sitting on 4 of the same color, all brand new 2015 CRV EX-L models. Just wondering what a good price is. Sales tax is 6.85%.

Your target price should be 2k to 3k below dealers invoice price on any 2015 model. . If your state has a high doc fee charge you need to counter that charge by getting a better below invoice price.

Yes sir. Every states pricing will vary but a 2 / 3k below invoice makes a nice deal. Me personally I need to be 3k below to consider a over 1 yr. old model to the 2016 model.

Welcome to the forum - got family in Chattanooga (but can't say I know much about the market back there).

Guess the first question is how much 2015 inventory is still around and are you okay with "settling" for whatever color is in stock?

Numbers for a 'nooga zip are Invoice $24,868, MSRP $26,425 and TMV is coming in at $24,438.

TMV for a 2016 EX is $25,565. I'd think a good price on the leftover 2015 would be $2,000 under invoice. No idea if that's possible, but considering that some people 8 hours away in VA are getting $1,000 or more off invoice for the 2016s, that would be a good starting point.

My numbers include destination and I assumed you were looking for FWD.

    @stever

I might be in this predicament. I had a quote for 26,400 OTD for a 2016 CRV EX FWD (8% tax) but they ran out of my color. I have the option of waiting or choosing another color.

A third option I saw was getting the same color, but for the 2015 model. My understanding is that everything except for the front grill is the same.

Based on what you are saying, do you think $25,000 otd is reasonable? I think it is more than fair since I will take a hit on depreciation. I think I should be more aggressive and aim for $24,500.

Please let me know your thoughts!

Yeah, that could work, although the depreciation hit could be a bit higher (search for True Cost to Own here for those numbers). Hm, looks like depreciation for a 2015 EX FWD is around $4,500. But that's spread out over the first year of ownership. When did the 2016's come out, Septemberish? Call it a half year's depreciation and you are around $2,000.

Just me, but I'd rather have the latest and greatest, but for the right number.... Coming up with that line in the sand is always the fun part. :)

They wouldn't give me more than $500 off for the 2015s. To me, the hit on depreciation is not worth it. I guess it's back to waiting. I'll keep you posted!

Can someone please help me out and tell me what my out the door target price should be if I buy today in Houston? Either a CRV EX L FWD or Touring (there's a lot more inventory of Touring). Both have about 1400 worth of pre installed dealer add ons. Thank you very much.
  • billlatrobebilllatrobe Member Posts: 2
forgot to specify - 2015, of course.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
We just had a post where the dealer let a buyer walk and wouldn't do $1,500 off invoice on a 2016.

For a 2015, I'd want that $1,500 and I wouldn't want to pay the $1,400 in dealer add-ons. So I'm up to $3,000 off on the selling price already and my feeling is that the dealers in TX aren't that aggressive, even on "left-over" stock.

Doesn't hurt to go in with your guns blazing; maybe drop some hints that you're trying to decide between a CX-5 and a CR-V.

Hi all - any thoughts on CRV EX AWD 2015 preowned vs. 2016 new. Which is the better value.

Was looking for a preowned 2015 low miles but couldnt find any being offered locally so started looking at new 2016s since the 2017 has hit the lots. 2016 new is a little higher than I was looking to pay OTD, but started to convince myself it's in the running b/c of the 0.9% APR

    ZIP 08052

2015 CRV EX AWD 15k miles (not certified, at an Acura)
    vehicle 20995
    doc fee 498
    registration 411
    tire recycling 7.5
    OTD with Tax 23381
    1.9% APR

    2016 CRV EX AWD NEW
    vehicle 24998
    doc fee 396
protection package 449 - wheel locks, splash guard, cargo tray. said first two are bolted on.
    registration 411
    tire recycling 7.5
    OTD with Tax 28016
